the alien from space

Botis: Don’t worry sirs! I will protect you!

Aziraphale: That’s nice, Botis, but I don’t think that’s necessary. It’s only an average Thursday.

Botis: Danger may appear at any moment, sir!

Crowley: Thanks for reminding me, Botis….

I know he’s probably like 4x bigger than this but I just found this guy and I LOVE BOTIS so here you go.

One, how is Louis so pretty in a grainy, shitty picture? He's unreal. And two, I love seeing him seated with Niall's friends and family. OT4 is a big loving family.

Aliens from outer space are seeing through a potato lens and can still tell how beautiful Louis is!

What About Lars?

Having just binge-watched the latest Stevenbomb, I see a lot of people on my dash freaking out about how Steven’s in the clutches of Gems who know he’s got Rose Quartz’s gem and are plotting to do who-knows-what to him, and how all his friends back on Earth are freaking out about his sacrifice and blah blah blah.

Not gonna lie, I’m worried about what kind of shit poor Steven is going through, but I’m more worried about Lars Barriga.

You know, the same Lars who, in “Island Adventure”, admits in a moment of weakness to feeling astoundingly isolated from others?

The Lars who, according to “The New Lars”, is suffering academically, probably because of a host of un-diagnosed mental issues?

The Lars who admits, in “Tiger Philanthropist”, he doesn’t know what would make him happy?

The Lars who, in “The Good Lars”, is desperate for friends but also unable to reach out to anybody for fear of rejection?

The Lars who probably thinks Sadie and everyone else hates him and thinks he’s a coward because he ran away from Topaz in “I Am My Mom”, when running from a hulking space alien who is giving Connie and Steven a hard time would actually be a perfectly understandable reaction?

And the Lars who would never admit to any of this and instead hides it behind being a sarcastic jerk who hates everybody, and is currently stuck on Aquamarine’s ship with Steven?

I’m honestly terrified for the guy.

Folks often act like you need to be some sort of math genius to be a computer programmer, but in practice, I find that my skills as a writer end up helping me more than my skills as a mathematician.

Programming is basically explaining what you want to happen.

Just, like, you’re explaining it to a helpful but exceedingly literal-minded space alien from the Eleventh Dimension who’s only had physical existence described to them, so you need to choose your words carefully!

First Contact

(Inspired by a binge play of Mass Effect 1, a silly conversation with @ysmirel and also from reading too many (wonderful) alien stories on tumblr. A bit longer than what I usually write here, at about 4k words.)

Part I | Part II | Part III

They thought they were safe.

They thought their galaxy would never be a problem, because no sane, sentient organism would ever venture into, or out of, that hazardous place willingly—that dangerous fortress of a planet far too close to its star center, simultaneously protected and threatened by Planet ZS-01’s gravitational field and vibrantly thriving despite several near-misses with asteroid strikes and gradually increasing heat deterioration.

They assumed this for several decades, centuries, passing detailed warnings and fearmongering education of the singular species down by generations and knowing they’d never face an issue with too much interest in that isolated, forbidden corner of the megaverse because of the carefully-maintained precautions.

For all their calculations, however, they overlooked one vital detail—something so incredibly basic that in hindsight they should have predicted it—in omnisight, should have known it would happen, yet overlooked it out of—they weren’t too vain to admit it—sheer arrogance. That detail was: when one species reaches out and repeatedly attempts to communicate, especially one not deterred by radio silence, another species will inevitably respond. Particularly, those ugly, unsavory, desperate Isa from the Kraal System who were warned, always warned, and heavily fined, but never listened. But the fault originated with them, for not keeping a closer eye on those anomalous creatures, for being too complacent in believing the Isa were far too worthless for those beings to accept.

And so, despite their efforts, and due to their own failings, first contact was made.

Humans are Weird

I’ve been reading a lot of these types of posts lately (Humans are Space Orcs, Humans are Space Australians, etc) and I want to contribute to it before it dies off.

What if aliens don’t have movies? They think that films are recordings of true events. Or something like that.

“What do you mean they’re still alive?”

“It was just an act you know. Here, you can see them in the outtakes.”

“Human-Steve please explain this we saw the blood and everything.”

I’m going to present to you a theory that’s probably already been theorized, but with more evidence from s2: Earth is already being controlled by the Galra through the Garrison.

We know that aliens already know about Earth’s culture from the Space Mall episode. I mean, aliens quite literally abducted our cows… and had an Area 51 hat. And had video games. In a mall owned by the Galra. Look, I don’t know how alien economics works, but they have to have some type of fascination with Earth to be able to have a shop for it and aliens would actually have to know what all of those items were for said shop to be successful. Imagine an alien Earth fan club. That’s what this is.

And that brings me to Keith’s flashbacks, once in a nightmare…

and once while he was trying to the awaken the Blade of Marmora, where he was in his shack in Earth.

In both, Keith is placed in a situation where he’s around marching Galra. In some shape or form, Keith witnessed a Galra invasion. I don’t think that that’s going to be the last time we see that image at all. It’s obviously related to Keith’s past, but the Voltron team decided to draw this scene into two different settings: one purely related to the Galra and one set in Earth. Keith has probably already witnessed an alien genocide and is probably about to witness one again.

I mean, think about it. If you were Haggar or Prince Lotor or whoever, how would you keep Voltron from running if they’re all humans? How would you set the perfect trap that would definitely lure Voltron in?

The next time we see Earth, it’s probably going to be under invasion by the Galra. There are two possibilities: (1) the Garrison will be on their side or (2) the Garrison will see this as an act of war. Under both situations, I doubt that the Garrison doesn’t know about the Galra and other alien races. And, honestly, I see more validity in option 1.

Listen, throughout season one, we knew that the Garrison was hiding something. Pidge obviously knew that they knew something about her family, but she didn’t have enough time to figure out what it was. And that means that the Garrison had to have known that this wasn’t a normal mission. In normal circumstances, we wouldn’t have known what had happened and would have ruled it out as an unfortunate death. But they knew more than enough to rule out the cause of death as a pilot error.

Zarkon literally said that there was no place on the universe where he couldn’t reach. While he may have meant that in a militaristic way, I think he meant it in a quite literal way.

We already know that leaders can be corrupt, look at King Lubos. The creators of Voltron made sure to mention that just because you’re a leader, doesn’t mean you’re on the good side or that you would do anything and everything for the benefit of your people.

And for the Garrison to be able to make a presence or for the Galra to even think about asking the Garrison, they must have some type of political control. Considering that they are one of the best schools for training space cadets, I don’t think that this is too far off. We’ve only seen the school aspect from our younger paladins. We haven’t seen the military aspect. Considering that we don’t know the actual politics of future Earth, we don’t know how screwed the government is. But I’d literally bet 100 bucks that it’s going to represent the mess we have right now if I had the money.

There could be an alien species out in the galaxy who would never imagine space battles or interstellar war. To them space is sacred. It is the alpha and the omega and to taint the hallowed wonders of that vacuum with something as violent and evil as war would be blasphemous.

They’re advanced enough for faster than-light-travel, but before they embark they prey to the Void Goddess for protection and promise to keep her safe and quiet in return.

They would meet another species like humans and reel back in disgust at our gargantuan intra-galactic weaponry. The aliens rebuke us and leave quickly in a tailspin. Planetary war is understood, it’s accepted to them. On a planet you are confined and subject to the stress of limitations.

But space; space is infinite. She is all encompassing. They do not understand why you would turn your back on the Void Goddess who gives you a vast and unending prairie to explore. To turn her gift into an arena - that is wicked.

Saw Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 and a few things I need in Avengers Infinity War

Spoilers obviously

  •  - Thor explains he’s a god to GotG and Peter (Star Lord) is like, “I was a god once. Lower case."
  •  - Star Lord bring us at least one battle with an awesome sound track. Steve doesn’t know what to think about it. Tony is jamming out.
  •  - Spider Man not understanding any of Star Lord’s songs (like Star Wars being an old movie). Like The Who is playing and Peter says "who is this?” Other Peter answers, “The Who.” Peter says, “Yeah, who.” This scene goes on for several minutes.
  •  - Hawkeye and Rocket being smart asses together.
  •  - everyone amazed Rocket can talk
  •  - Rocket meeting a wild raccoon.
  •  - Steve having none of this shit about actual real life aliens from outer space
  •  - Gamora/Nebula explaining that Thanos is daddy dearest
  •  - Banner being baffled that someone else is also green

I also just reblogged a similar post like this and all their ideas were amazing as well

Date the alien that has been observing you from its station in space. At first it was only curious, but it has grown fond of you. It hopes to one day gather the courage to come down to Earth and say hello.

Humans and their Music

I too, have hopped onto the Humans are Space Orcs/ Humans are Weird/ Humans are from Space Australia and all Aliens Are Horrified train. So here’s my contribution

So I’ve seen a few posts on Human Music, but what about that one song, you know, that one song that is so profound that your soul can’t help but sing.

Like it comes on the radio while your driving with your alien buddy and you just turn that dial to 11? And you sing your heart out? And they’re just like??? Wat??? Why are you singing so loud??? Its just a song????

ITS NOT JUST A SONG ZORRI DONT EVER TELL ME IT S JUST A S O N G !!! wE’LL GROW OLD/ AND WE’LL NEVER BE ALONE/ AND NO MATTER WHERE WE ROAM/ WE’LL BE GLORIOUS*!~

OR you’re at your home on Earth/in you’re quarters and are just cleaning. And that song comes on and you just drop everything??? And start dancing? Like, who gives a flying fuck??? Because you just have to move and sing?? Because something gives you so much joy when you hear it your body literally can’t contain it???

To the rest of the universe we’re seen as these impossible creatures that are capable of so much. We’re from a fucking Death World for fucks sake. We have hundreds of weird costumes, we can lie with a straight face and we bare our teeth when we laugh, our pack-bond go everywhere. And we may not look it but we feel deeply. Anger, sorrow, joy. All of it.

So what if, what if this is another thing that aliens weren’t expecting and instead of being weird-ed out by it,  they just,, ‘smile’

IDk where i was going with this lol

@space-australians

imagine:

  • the different reactions after defeating Zarkon and after all of the fights that they didn’t have to fight just to keep the universe safe
    • pidge and matt turning to each other with tears in their eyes before they throw their arms around each other and just holding on for hours
    • lance bouncing on his toes, his fists punching the air, with an unbreakable grin stretched across his face because he gets to go home
    • hunk having to sit down and take a breather because he feels light-headed to the point where he thinks he’s going to faint…and maybe vomit
    • keith gazing down at his sword, thinking about his parents and the family he lost, and then breaking down into silent tears after he realizes that the people around him have become the family he always wanted
    • and then shiro, ripping off his prosthetic arm as hard and fast as he can; throwing it across the room and watching it bounce off a wall and hit the ground, its wires and lights flickering and sputtering until it finally dies; his chest heaving as he tries to calm the sudden rush of visions and thoughts in his head; staring with wide, teary eyes at the rest of his team as they wonder what’s going on with their captain; his knees buckling and his limbs giving out; collapsing to the ground and just s o b b i n g, not even bothering to keep it down
  • the slow realization that shiro isn’t mad or angry or upset; he’s ecstatic
  • allura and coran being the first to sit down next to him and wrap their arms around his shoulders
  • keith pulling his head out of his hands to look up, and then immediately running towards shiro and falling right in front of him to press his forehead against shiro’s
  • pidge and lance following after them, both attempting to hug him from either side
  • hunk allowing everyone to go before him just so he can hug shiro from behind, gently slipping his arms past everybody else’s, nodding at the other paladins if they came too close to the stub where his arm once was
  • the long, silent walks down the hallways of the castle
    • staring at the healing pods and remembering all those times they thought one of the other paladins was dead, and then remembering the first time they met Allura and Coran
    • laughing at the remaining food goo that hadn’t been cleaned up after the little “incident” (Crystal Venom, I think)
    • running their hands up and down their beds, knowing they won’t have to sleep there anymore
  • the hope that there’s another monster out there so that they don’t have to go home
  • the flight back to Earth, passing through endless wormholes and past planets celebrating the Galra defeat
    • everyone, including lance, asking if allura could slow the ship down so they stay together longer
  • the panic and then endless excitement from the people down on Earth when Allura first speaks to them and explains what the paladins have done to protect them
  • the swim to shore after they decide to land in the ocean
    • because of gravity differences and after however many months/years in space, most of them have forgotten how to swim in Earthen waters, but they eventually remember, and then fall over instantly once they reach land
    • lance accepting his fall and kissing the ground beneath him
    • pidge and matt running their hands through the dirt and sands of the beach realizing that they forgot how soft it is
    • hunk and keith holding onto each other and laughing as they brush sand from each other’s faces so it doesn’t get in their eyes
    • shiro still crying; thankfully calmed down, and now being supported by coran and allura as he’s swarmed with paramedics and reporters
  • the interviews in the hospital
  • the insane amount of excited kids running in to ask their favorite paladins questions about space and about all of their adventures
    • the paladins deciding that they talk together, and then moving their congregation of fans into the lobby so all of them can be together again and add onto their stories
  • t h e  r e u n i o n  w i t h  t h e  m c c l a i n  f a m i l y
  • the sudden rain that starts pouring down once they leave the hospital
    • DANCING IN THE RAIN
  • the international, breaking news reports with headlines such as “heroes return from intergalactic space mission: real or fake?” “ALIENS HAVE TOUCHED DOWN ON EARTH” “president awards paladins medal of honor” “world holiday decided today for Voltron heroes”
  • the laughter as they read conspiracy theories together
  • the celebration at the Garrison and the immediate ceremony in shiro’s honor
  • the excitement lance feels when someone tells him they’re planning on building a statue for each of the paladins
  • IMAGINE
