It’s that time of year again and I would like to bring back this event!
February 14th Aces and Aros are welcomed to use the tag #AphobiaLike to share positive or negative experiences you’ve dealt with for being Ace and/or Aro. This tag is not meant to be hate for allosexuals, but a way for our community to come together and support each other.
I chose Valentine’s Day because it’s one of the hardest days to get through since allosexuals are being especially vocal with their opinions of us and our futures. The media portrays Aces and Aros as problems that can be fixed with the right person, and even though we know ourselves better it can still be isolating. It’s during the hard times that we need community the most.
We are not broken We are not prudes We are not plants We are not robots We are human beings who want to be accepted and treat as such
If you posted something last year go ahead and repost it, the posts from last year seem to have disappeared from the search results. If you aren’t comfortable posting your own story you can send it to me and I’ll post it anonymously.
There should never be a day that you have to hide away and be alone
Hey, so, if you identify as ace but also straight, you’re just as much a part of the lgbt+ community as if you identify as ace and literally any other orientation.
And hey guess what. If you identify as aro, you’re just as much a part of the lgbt+ community regardless of whether you’re aroace or aro/straight or aro/bi or etceter-fucking-ra
If you’re ace or aro, then you’re part of the lgbt+ community. Regardless of any other orientation you may also be.
And at those who say that straight aros or straight aces aren’t part of the community, I’m gonna head you off at the pass. You’re wrong, yes they are part of the lgbt community, kindly take your incorrect exclusionary opinions and fuck off elsewhere.
Friendly reminder that Raphael Santiago is canonically asexual.
It means he IS a part of the LGBT community, because the A in LGBTQIA+ stands for asexuals and aromantics, not “allies”. So stop saying he’s not valid, stop saying he’s not a part of it because it’s bullshit. Raphael is a part of LGBT as much as Alec and Magnus are and I’m sick of seeing stupid posts about it.
tumblr in 2013: the a in lgbtqia stands for asexuals, aromantics, agenders, and allies who may be closeted people than cannot come out
tumblr in 2017: the a in lgbtqia stands for apples and acephobia uwu asexual people are “straight”
Asexuals are inherently lgbtqiA+/queer.
Aromantics are inherently lgbtqiA+/queer.
If you are EITHER asexual OR aromantic, you belong in the lgbtqiA+/queer if you wish and identify that way.
You do not need to be asexual AND aromantic to belong here.
The A in lgbtqiA+ stands for Asexual/Aromantic, NOT ally.
This post is not about starting discourse; it’s about the ‘aces/aros are cishets’ propaganda that has somehow recently appeared on my dashboard.
If you don’t agree with this post, please unfollow/block me. This blog is a safe space for aces and aros. They belong in the lgbtqiA+/queer community.
The reason aphobes don’t bother me is because two years ago they were screaming that the a stands for asexual, aromantic, and agender, not ally, and before that they said that bi/pan/poly people don’t belong in the lgbt+ community. In a few years they’ll forget about asexuals and find something else to throw hissy fits about.
Okay so let’s start with a puzzle.
This puzzle has three pieces.
The first one is cisgender.
The second is heteroromantic.
The third and final piece is heterosexual.
Add ‘em all together and you got straight!
So when you put together a puzzle, you need to have every piece for it to be complete. But aces and aros are both missing one piece each. Aces miss the third one, and aros miss the second one. As for aroaces, they are missing two of the three pieces.
See? So you cannot be straight if you are either aro or ace. This puzzle is not complete without one piece or another.
All in all, aces are not inherently straight.
UPDATE: this has been edited since original post! The title now says cis aces, earlier cis was not there, and people pointed out that I did not include trans. This post is about cis aces only. Apologies! Also, this is a metaphor. It is not meant to say that aces are incomplete, it is simply saying that cis aces are not inherently straight.
