Tourist In Pajamas

I have been dressing a little like a tourist lately, due to hurting my knee - I figured it would be more helpful to the healing process to wear sneakers instead of high heels. Crazy thought! Didn’t really mind them with this outfit, though. While walking around the park prior to taking these pictures, an old man ran up to me to tell me he loved my outfit, that it reminded him of ‘children’s pajamas’. So……I look totally young and stuff!!! *Wears this every day forever*

This Is My Roof

The internet claims the lyrics to Miley’s smash hit ‘We Can’t Stop’ are, “This is our house/this is our rules”, but I wish they were “this is our roof” because it would be a lot better for this post (and also that lyric isn’t grammatically correct). So this is actually my roof, and also my crop top (see me doing my best Miley in 1st picture). I’ll know I’m old when I feel uncomfortable showing my stomach in public. Generally speaking, I think if you want to wear a half-shirt from Forever21, skip tight pants and/or high heels and make it more casual with baggy pants and some simple sneakers. During the day, at least. I think Miley’s party is tonight so I may change.

Let’s Grill Inside

WOOO!! DAY OFF! SHORTS! T-SHIRTS! Orrrrr, shivering outside and putting on more layers as you struggle to eat a steak kebab with your cold little fingers. We were all living in bizarro-land this weekend, expecting sunburns and/or heat rash, but pulling out our scarves and regretting the decision to wear sandals. Sometimes the weather just doesn’t cooperate with the generally accepted “mood” of an event or holiday. Cold on Memorial Day weekend? Wack. No snow on Christmas? Not ok. Raaayy-eee-aaayn on your wedding daaaay? Alanis gets it. Pants and long sleeves wouldn’t have been my first choice of outfit, but I kept the colors light to help pretend it was warm out. I’d say it sort of worked - I think the wine helped, too.

Sunday, Fussy Sunday

This is what you look like when you try and reinvent the wheel on a perfectly fine Sunday afternoon. I don’t want to wear a skinny belt on the weekend! I don’t want to tuck anything in! That’s for the Monday - Friday (ok, Thursday, really) livin’. I do like orange and green together, and it’s hard to go wrong with a denim jacket, so I guess it’s got that going for it (the outfit, is it a person now?), but typically I like to roll a little more low-key on the last day I have before I go back to (MTV’s) The Grind. Kinda wish I could just go back in time and work on MTV’s The Grind for realz. I think these sunglasses would help me fit in.

A Onesie For All Seasons

I’m not sure I’ve met a onesie I didn’t like. Babies wear onesies, and I’ve recently decided that babies get all the best stuff. So anything I can do to get more on a baby’s level, is a step in the right direction. I think this particular jumpsuit will be a go-to for me in upcoming months - it works with a tank top and sandals, but it will go with ankle boots and some kind of warmer top-half item, as well. A sweatah, a blazah, ya know, whatevah.

Happy holidays everyone, it’s Thanksgiving Thursday and the online shopping madness has already started! Personally, I’m slightly more excited about getting some *totally sweet dealz* on cute clothes than eating some wack turkey in my kitchen. I know you’re probably bored already, so why don’t we kick things off early with a little ASOS action? Use the code BLACKFRIDAYBONUS to get 20% off your whole purchase including Holiday sale and Accessories sale stuff! We’ve still got plenty of cold weather ahead of us, so now would be a perfect time to grab some statement outerwear. A classic brushed wool peacoat in a fun color for sixty bucks? Leather biker jackets for a hundo?? Back away from the appetizers and peruse my carefully selected shop the look picks - just trying to keep you sexy (and warm), you’re welcome.

Also, here’s my Black Friday #GPOY mostly to show off my new neon hair tips!

Santy Claus Is Comin

by Melanie Schnitzlein | @sketchyblonde | www.thatsketchyblonde.tumblr.com

Christmas is a day where, sartorially speaking, you don’t have to try too hard. Grammie doesn’t want to see you in a sheer top and leather drop-crotch trousers anyway. Your clothes should be ready for cookie-eating, whiskey-drinking, and present-opening, aka loose and/or stretchy. We don’t get super fancy in my house for the occasion, and stay specifically dressed down for Christmas morning in particular - mascara, hairbrushes and clothes that are not pajamas are strictly banned - but for Christmas evening, we like to get a little cleaned up. A simple, luxe sweater, pants with tactile interest, and CUTE SOCKS (no shoes allowed) are de rigeur for me. Here’s some ideas to get ya started -

Socks - if you’re not wearing shoes, make your feet look cool in other ways. Also your other socks are probably old and gross. So get new ones, like stripes with a cap toe, something Fairisle-y, or polka dots!

Sweater - My first choice would be something cashmere of course, because I can feel like a rich lady. This Vince sweater will have you looking like a very cute candy cane, and I have something similar to this Velvet one that I basically live in. This tan/gray combo or metallic pullover are a little less expensive, but just as good for lounging around and eating all day.

Pants - Something velvety, like this Free People pair.

Add in hot toddies, gift bows and rosy cheeks wherever possible.
