Runaway (1/1)

Summary: After Trini runs away, it caused a rupture in the Rangers’ friendship. Now 6 years later, Kimberly and Trini unexpectedly meet.

AN: Slight Jason and Kimberly but ya know… Trimberly

Read at FF Ao3

The night the Rangers graduated high school, they had set up camp and drank alcohol near the fire and under the moon.

“Happy Birthday to you!” The group ended the song. Kimberly held the cake in her hands in front of Trini. Trini looked behind the candles into Kim’s smiling face.

Trini blew the candle of her yellow cake that Kimberly herself made.

“What did you wish for?” Kimberly placed the cake on top of the folding table that Jason had brought. “Cut that for me, babe” Kimberly told Jason.

Trini shrugged her shoulders, “I guess for our friendship to last… no matter what happens” Trini gave her traditional smirk to the group. Kimberly smiled and she hugged the youngest Power Ranger.

“Always” Kimberly whispered. Oh, how Trini wished this hug wasn’t platonic. Kimberly broke the hug, “Alright guys, I actually got gifts for everyone.” Kimberly grabbed her bag and took out 5 white boxes. The group huddled around the fire.

Can I just say, it is a travesty how john Egbert is ignored and made fun of by the homestuck fandom. But its very nice to see a blog that actually cares about and likes john just as much as the other characters. Thanks for listening :)

Aww I don’t think he’s ignored or made fun of! At least not in any sincere way.

But prepare for an essay, cause hoo boy did this response take a turn into a deep metatextual analysis:

John’s a really interesting case of this blank-slate, everyman sort of character surrounded by a very deep, richly written supporting cast. Which is very much the point of him, I think. Notice that for pretty much every additional character (especially the betas over the course of their introductions in the first few acts), the lore, backstory, and complexity of homestuck increases. So John is meant as sort of the character-base-one. He’s exactly who you would expect to star in a comic like this. A nerdy goofball who we can’t help but love but whose place in the story isn’t much deeper than the lens through which we discover things.

Take Act 5 Act 2. While everyone is backstabbing, blowing stuff up, or trying to save the universe, John’s just following people’s instructions and discovering his powers. The story’s diverged, and we’re no longer seeing Homestuck through John’s eyes, we’re seeing it from pretty much everyone else’s except John’s. We do watch him become more and more powerful and grow as a person, but it feels disconnected from the rest of the plot.

This seems to continue through Act 6, but it starts to become obvious that Hussie is doing this for a reason. John keeps bumping into everything else that’s going on, but no matter what happens, he’s never the one to act. He hangs around watching movies on the meteor, he has a brief battle with Jack, he bumps into Vriska, but none of those are Big Plot Occurrences.

But then, he sticks his hand in the House Juju. Not only has he been metaphorically separated from the rest of the story, he’s now literally detached from Homestuck. The rules of the story – which had been acting tangentially, but not directly, to him pretty much since day one – now don’t apply to him at all. He’s become a fully separate entity from the other characters, popping in and out but never occupying the more conventional role of a story’s characters.

Then Game Over happens. Suddenly we discover the Rules of Homestuck everyone else had been following are fundamentally broken. And only a character on whom the plot directly acts and who acts directly on the plot could have been the center of that break. Or, since I’m getting verbose and excited about homestuck meta, should I say br8k. Vriska represents the antithesis to John in terms of connectedness to the Plot and Rules of Homestuck. Whereas John went with the flow, Vriska actively inserted herself into almost every major plot development. Whereas John stumbled upon his powers, Vriska actively cultivated hers. And, whereas John was detached from the events that lead to Game Over, Vriska was what caused it in the first place.

(As an aside, Aranea is a demonstration of what happens when a character who is not a central actor attempts to assert themselves into the narrative and redirect the course of events. She tried to rebel against her place in the story as a background, expositional side-character and do what only a character either heavily entrenched in the plot like Vriska or outside it entirely like John could have done.)

So, the big question becomes “what now?” How do we F1X TH1S? Terezi is in a unique place where, unlike John, she has played an active role in the plot. But unlike everyone else, she has the ability – be it her powers as a Seer of Mind, her involvement with the breakage itself, or just who she is as a person – to view the Plot from the same bird’s-eye-view as John would if he knew to look. And the fact that she is both fatally wounded in and one of the sole survivors of Game Over is a very physical embodiment of the liminal place she occupies between “canon” and “non-canon.” But, because she’s still an actor in the plot (acting upon and acted upon), she doesn’t have the power over the story to repair what happened. But John does, because he is an outside presence. A relatively literal Deus ex Machina. You can’t put out the fire from inside the house, so Terezi leans out the window and tells John – who’s standing out on the sidewalk watching but not affected by the flames – how to use the hose. How’s that for a metaphor. So John does just that. He breaks the laws of storytelling because those laws never applied to him in the first place.

This is a very long and rambly way of getting back to your question. Basically, John isn’t, and was never meant to be, like the other characters. Whereas they’re all wrapped up in their angst and decisions and romance, John’s just…John. And I think it was very smart of Hussie to write that character not with less development or depth, but with less…character weight(?). Or something.

Basically we don’t talk about John as much as the other characters because in fandom, we normally focus on that character weight. Their relationships, their quirks, their sad backstories, etc. John Egbert, by definition, has less of that. Not none of course, but less. So it’s easy to forget about him in the stuff fandom mostly focuses on because who he is as a character is very heavily dependent on the role he plays in the story. Outside of his role as the Unstuck, he’s just a lovable goofball of a friendleader. And we love him for that, but he can easily be lost when surrounded by much ~heavier~ characters like Terezi, Vriska, Dave, Rose, etc.

So let’s take a moment to appreciate John Egbert as a strange, disconnected, surrealist entity that breaks the conventional laws of storytelling. And also because he’s adorable.

Do you have any head cannons about Slytherin students who love/are interested in muggle sciences?

The most powerful Slytherin student of all time, Merlin, knew about relativity. He didn’t have a name for it at the time, but it was Merlin’s basic knowledge of quantum mechanics that allowed him to cast his most powerful spells.

After the Second Wizarding War, the magical world integrated Muggle achievements in a movement that worked so speedily that it turned the British magical community on its head. The older generations were baffled as the youth easily charmed pieces of machinery to take over all of the operations of the house, completed feats of transmutation then reserved for the most learned of alchemists, and broke the sound barrier whilst flying but applying improvements on brooms. New laws were enacted as the practice of creating manikins and other forms of magical artificial intelligence as servants became popular and dangerous. Divination became a revitalized art as people started to seek peeks of other dimensions in their dreams. The Ministry of Magic faced the onset of another reorganization as the magical community became that much more hard to handle.

Such revolutions seemed to always come after times of extreme turmoil and bloodshed. They had already occurred in Russia (post-Stalin), South Asia (post-imperialism), China (post-Cultural Revolution), and America (The end of the Civil Rights Movement came with a bloodier price within the American magical community. It was a war between European and Native American, African American, Latin American, and Asian cultures that lasted one hundred years, from the mid-19th century to the 1960s.). Some countries, such as Brazil and the Scandinavian states, gradually revolutionized in a more peaceful manner.

It was a former Slytherin that championed the British Scientific Revolution. Fresh out of Hogwarts, they were dissatisfied with the options presented to them, with the post-war government under constant refurbishment and little job security. They eventually ventured into the Muggle world, seeking higher education in the form of Oxford University. After a couple of physics courses, they naturally sought a way to apply what they had learned to what they knew. The results were astonishing.

Thereafter, Muggle sciences was no longer a forbidden domain. Instead, the wizarding world unlocked the potential it had formerly repressed out of fear.

Hi! This may be too personal, and feel free not to respond to this, but I wanted to reach out re: your commentary on the deportations post. May I ask why you were asked not to return, if you had the valid right to remain in the UK? I'm a bit scared of what's happening at the moment and want to learn as much as I can.

Hi there,

Sorry for the delay in response. It’s still a difficult subject for me.

I went to the University of Glasgow, and taught there following my graduation. I am a Scottish historian and folklorist, so those are the subjects I teach. My partner and I started a theatre company, which turned into a film company (you can see some of the posts today regarding what we have produced). During this time, I had been on a student visa, then a post-study work visa (which was scrapped, along with the Fresh Talent Initiative). I returned for some time on a tourist visa as I was teaching European history in Korea for a while. Then my partner and I decided to live in Ireland because the law (UK citizen must make  over £18,600 per year on their own to sponsor a partner or spouse, so marriage is irrelevant) had changed, and we were no longer able to live there together because he didn’t make enough money. Since he is still attending university, he does not make enough even now - and the likelihood of getting a job that pays that amount in Scotland is difficult whether or not you are going to school.

When we were in Ireland, we found out about the Surinder Singh route. The UK citizen lives with their partner for several months in another EU country, thereby becoming an ‘EU citizen’ (which they already were), and then bringing their partner back. We applied for a family permit and were rejected. He had to attend university and I ended up back in the US. While in the US, I was told that I could apply from any country so I reapplied. I was then granted a family permit by the UK embassy in New York City.

Upon returning to the country, you must send this permit to the same place where you apply for the family permit so you can get your five-year residence card. These are supposed to be automatically supplied to people with family permits, for obvious reasons (that is, because you are the family member of a UK citizen). My partner and I have now been together for 7 years, own a house and a business in Glasgow, and all of this is easily documented online because we are in the film industry and therefore have a social media presence. Regardless, they wanted more proof, and a 200 page detailed document of everything we could think of (photos, Facebook conversations, and so on) were sent to the facility. It was one of the most invasive, nosy experiences of my life.

I received the letter. My residence card had been rejected - even though I had the family permit and had sent them what amounted to my entire life story along with my partner’s.

So I had to send in an appeal. They sent me a letter stating that they had received this appeal application. Around this time I was accepted to attend Cannes as a director - you can’t just go there, you have to apply and be accepted. I wanted to promote and hopefully sell our film, Burns Night, as well as represent Scotland at the world’s most prestigious film festival. I called the Border Agency and asked if this would be all right as it was only 10 days. They said it would be fine, but to keep all my paperwork with me.

I went to Cannes. It was wonderful. I returned very late at night as the flight was delayed due to the strikes in France. I went up to the immigration officer and was immediately detained, regardless of the paperwork I was carrying. I was grilled in a back office for many, many hours; I talked about Scotland, what it means to me, and about what I do for a living. The man there said he wasn’t going to make any decisions that night, because it was late, and he’d let me go into Edinburgh and come back in the morning. He told me to make sure I returned that day because he would be working the following night. He was from Glasgow, and seemed to have a positive reaction to the situation.

My partner met me in Edinburgh, and they asked him to go and get the 200 page document that was sent for my residence card. So he went back to Glasgow to retrieve it. I returned to the airport to discover the man I’d met the night before had called in sick. I was taken back into another room by a woman this time, and was grilled again. This lasted for several hours. Then they left me alone in a room with a camera, for a few more hours. On the table was a book about the detention centre, and that’s when I finally cried, I think.

She came back in and told me since there was ‘nothing in my passport’ proving that I could stay, despite the fact that: 1. I had a family permit and should have already been granted a residence card, 2. I had a 200 page document about my relationship, my work for the last 7 years (most of which is about Scotland or involved my getting plays and shows into Glasgow for the first time ever, or as world firsts), and 3. I had the paperwork regarding my appeal with me, and the BA said it would be fine to go to Cannes for ten days…

They said I had one week to leave the country. Then they guilted me about going to Cannes vs something ‘more important, like a funeral’, and also that I cried. I called my partner, who was waiting in another part of the airport, and said ‘They aren’t going to let me stay’. He started to cry and say ‘but I gave them everything they wanted. I gave them everything they wanted’ again and again.

I couldn’t go anywhere else during that week, just stay at the house, which was unfortunate because my show was a special guest at London Comic Con that week and it would have been my first convention appearance, although the cast/crew had represented the show at several others.

So I sat in our house and waited to leave. The cast and crew came to visit me, and I called immigration lawyers, friends who work with immigrants and refugees, etc. all of whom told me there was nothing they could do because the situation in the UK was not great for immigrants anyway. I personally know several couples who have had this experience, where the non-EU citizen is living in another country from their partner because of these laws.

At the end of the week, I went back to the airport. They were deporting me to France, not the US, because that’s where I had come from. They also informed me they ‘had no way of knowing if the French would put me into a detention camp’ but were sending me there anyway. I had decided to fly to Paris instead of Cannes because I had a friend there and purchased my own ticket, even though they bought one for me (I don’t know anyone in Cannes). Then I ran into more trouble because my passport needed to be renewed and you can’t get on a plane to France if you have less than three months on the passport - which, of course, I’d planned to renew in Glasgow as I wasn’t going to be travelling for some time because I wanted to wait for the residence card.

Eventually they forced one of the airlines to take me to France. I received letters from a European legal advice firm stating that the deportation was illegal. The EU Commission wrote and said that it wasn’t exactly illegal…sort of…but was highly unusual, along with the entire situation. I was also told that when waiting for a residence card appeal decision, which you cannot ask them about at all - you just have to wait - you may be waiting for up to 2 years without an answer, during which you apparently cannot work or travel.

I still have not heard from the residence card appeals people. After France, I went back to the US. Then Brexit happened, which further complicates not only my situation but that of EU citizens in the country. My friend in France just told me that one of his friends, a German national living in the UK, received a letter that their residence card was also rejected - even though that person had also been living there for many years. The two actresses I work with who are Swedish have both gone back to Sweden. Two Scottish MPs have written me, horrified about the situation, but their hands are tied because Scotland is still a part of the UK and was dragged out of the EU against the will of the nation. My sound tech just informed me that her friend, who is from Ghana and whose partner is from the UK, has almost been forcibly deported several times even though they too have the right to be in the country. One of my university supervisors, who is Canadian, was woken in the middle of the night, the police demanding his papers. An Australian woman who owned two houses in Scotland was also deported.

If you want to see more on the topic of UK/non-EU couples, you can watch a short documentary online at The troubles of the non-EU citizens living in the UK are now becoming the problems of EU citizens too. The anti-immigration rhetoric there, which was nonexistent when I first moved to the UK, has reached a fever pitch. You only need to see the tabloids in every corner shop to see that, along with abuse and physical violence.

Right now, given my experiences, and those of my friends, I would advise anyone interested in going to the UK to choose another part of Europe instead. I love Scotland with all my heart, but until independence happens or things change, I would not wish this heartbreak on my worst enemies.

I remain in exile. I hope for Scottish independence so that I - and so many others - can safely return, and new immigrants can find a home where I have had so many happy memories.

Relationship with astrology

Aries: The Aries person is self expressive but typically born without a heavy weight of self consciousness. They are not so equipped with self awareness or insight to their behavior. They don’t so much ‘watch themselves’ as convey themselves. The Aries can also be confused by the conduct of others, like the whole world is mysterious to Aries. Astrology provides the individual with authentic and personalized information that allows the individual to explore and discover themselves in a fascinating way. It also pieces together the puzzle of others

Taurus: Even the most skeptical Taurus can find an element of beauty in astrology. Whether it be through the stories, language, or the lyrical way it is expressed. The individual will like to become intimate with their own chart and divulge into details. It could be a form of relaxation and bliss for the Taurus to kick their feet up and read about the love of Venus and the values of Taurus. It can also provide a sense of peace and security in what seems like a mad world. It is one thing that has been constant and enduring over history. They will acknowledge astrology but typically continue rumbling along in life exhibiting the same conduct

Gemini: The fascinating twists, turns and elaborate learning opportunities available through astrology can be enough to engage the flighty Gemini mind for a lifetime. There is something brilliant about having more and more to learn about with every leap in knowledge, and astrology provides an infinite maze of information pockets and captivating insights. It keeps the Gemini child enthralled. It can also provide the changeable and dual sided Gemini with a sense of internal stability. They are not going mad, they are just many

Cancer: Astrology reunites Cancer with the feelings of belonging and welcoming they so sorely long. It gives them a language to filter their psychic and intuitive activity through and provides a sense of solace and protection in a frenzied world. It can feel like coming home for Cancer, and opens up internal worlds they never knew existed. When the Cancer person can sympathise with the birth chart they no longer feel abandoned and afraid

Leo: The Leo reads astrology to see what it says about Leo. They are thunderously proud when astrologers remark on their positive points but also deeply hurt and sensitive to criticism. Astrology reunites Leo with the royalty that resides within. It can contribute to their grandiosity, the feeling that they truly rule with purpose. Astrology can also intimidate the lesser Leo who fears a force greater than him. It provides a permission slip for the Leo to express the spectacular self that bounces inside, the individual no longer has to be ashamed

Virgo: Virgos typically internalize astrological knowledge and ensure the circulating information is correct. The individual will prefer to analyze every detail of their chart and apply learned information to their own chart and experiences. Virgos will be critical of astrology they feel misrepresents their nature. There can be a tremendous focus, a great ability to examine the internal tapestry and patterns that others can overlook in haste. I’ve noticed Virgos are highly receptive to astrology but fearful in revealing they indulge in what others perceive as fallacy

Libra: Libra’s natural interest in psychology and interpersonal conduct is satiated through astrology. There is a tremendous need to understand other people and through this process come to understand themselves. Astrology provides clear insights on their own complexes and generates manuals concerning others. The individual will like to ensure the information read is free from bias and righteous. They will not appreciate what is unsavory or written with prejudice. Libra’s may feel disconnected from their own charts, as if they are just imitations. But it also provides that sense of insight they crave. That which drives others could be more fascinating

Scorpio: Scorpios are deeply responsive to astrology. It provides a language their powerful inner experiences. It can also intimidate the lesser Scorpio who fears being exposed or vulnerable. Astrology stirs the waves of sorcery in the individual and transports them to they pockets of the unconscious they seek to voyage through. The controversy, depth, and contention surrounding astrology can tempt the Scorpio. What is hidden, concealed, and filled with tokens from history, psychology, and unconscious dwellings is seductive. The depth psychology and penetration into human nature that the Scorpio craves can be generated through astrology. Scorpios may be especially gifted at intuiting the algorithms and patterns of astrology that people and the universe exhibit

Sagittarius: The Sagittarius is always searching for a way to become intimate with the laws of the universe. Although the individual seeks ‘God’, in personal and worldly ways, there is the need to apply tangible and logical blueprints to their experience of the Source. Astrology provides the manuscript, history, and spiritual language the individual is searching for to apply to his earthly experiences. It is the rainbow bridge that fuses two worlds. Astrology also engages the higher mind, and this is a place the Sagittarius longs to spend time exploring through. There are myriads and mazes of wisdom waiting in astrology that satiate the Sagittarian’s curiosity and need to accumulate knowledge

Capricorn: Capricorn represents mastery in all forms. This spans tasks on earth to profound mystical experiences. On top of the mountain, the individual is quite close to the stars. Something in the Capricorn person craves true intimacy and awareness of the surrounding world and the mechanics that weave reality. For Capricorns, astrology can bridge the gap between the spirit and the material through language, analysis, and history. It is a topic the individual will approach with caution but engage deeply once its worth is realised. The individual seeks to apply astrological information to everyday experiences and building evidence

Aquarius: Aquarius is the ruler of astrology and something in the Aquarian chemistry longs to be reunited with the star stuff they are made up of. There is a tremendous receptiveness to astrological material and galactic curiosity that is remedied by the intricate design. Astrology is a world of delight for Aquarius that allows them to dwell on the fringes of controversy but also return them to lost parts of themselves. It writes a permission slip that allows the shyer Aquarian to break from the shell and express their lightning individuality. Aquarius is often proud of their astrological make up and spend a lot of time thinking about astrology, it’s validity and its humanitarian potential

Pisces: Astrology is a refresher course for Pisces. It reminds them of the magic that exists where they came from and where they will eventually return to. There is an inborn intimacy with the wisdom transcribed through astrology and the individual can attain a sense of peace and rest when they are reminded this is all apart of the grand design. Confusing complexes in the individual can be put to sleep. The individual can daydream about astrology and watch it revealed in everyday life. They will express a tiny nod and smile, a sense of knowing that their true self is reflected from the light of heaven, it couldn’t be any other way

Neuroscience's New Consciousness Theory Is Spiritual

by Bobby Azarian

It appears that we are approaching a unique time in the history of man and science where empirical measures and deductive reasoning can actually inform us spiritually. Integrated Information Theory (IIT)–put forth by neuroscientists Giulio Tononi and Christof Koch–is a new framework that describes a way to experimentally measure the extent to which a system is conscious.

As such, it has the potential to answer questions that once seemed impossible, like “which is more conscious, a bat or a beetle?” Furthermore, the theory posits that any system that processes and integrates information, be it organic or inorganic, experiences the world subjectively to some degree. Plants, smartphones, the Internet–even protons–are all examples of such systems. The result is a cosmos composed of a sentient fabric. But before getting into the bizarreness of all that, let’s talk a little about how we got to this point.

The decline and demise of the mystical

As more of the natural world is described objectively and empirically, belief in the existence of anything that defies current scientific explanation is fading at a faster rate than ever before. The majority of college-educated individuals no longer accept the supernatural and magical accounts of physical processes given by religious holy books. Nor do they believe in the actuality of mystical realms beyond life that offer eternal bliss or infinite punishment for the “souls” of righteous or evil men.

This is because modern science has achieved impeccable performance when it comes to explaining phenomena previously thought to be unexplainable. In this day and age, we have complete scientific descriptions of virtually everything. We understand what gives rise to vacuous black holes and their spacetime geometries. We know how new species of life can evolve and the statistical rules that govern such processes. We even have a pretty good understanding of the exact moment in which the universe, and thus of all reality, came into existence! But no serious and informed scientist will tell you that at present we fully understand the thing each of us knows best. That is, our own consciousness.

One of science’s last greatest mysteries

Although we’ve come along way since the time of Descartes, who postulated that consciousness was actually some immaterial spirit not subject to physical law, we still don’t have a complete and satisfactory account of the science underlying experience. We simply don’t know how to quantify it. And if we can’t do that, how do we know whether those non-human life forms that are unable to communicate with us are also conscious? Does it feel like anything to be a cat? Most will probably agree that it does, but how about a ladybug? If so, how can we know which life forms are more conscious than others? Do animals that show impressively intelligent behavior and elaborate memory, like dolphins or crows, experience the world in a unified conscious fashion as we do? These questions are almost impossible to answer without a way to measure consciousness. Fortunately, a neuroscientific theory that has been gaining popular acceptance aims to do just that.

Integrated Information Theory to the Rescue

Integrated Information Theory (IIT), which has become quite a hot topic in contemporary neuroscience, claims to provide a precise way to measure consciousness and express the phenomenon in purely mathematical terms. The theory was put forth by psychiatrist and neuroscientist Giulio Tononi, and has attracted some highly regarded names in the science community. One such name is Christof Koch, Chief Scientific Officer at the Allen Institute for Brain Science, who now champions the idea along with Tononi. Koch may be best-known for bringing consciousness research into the mainstream of neuroscience through his long-term collaboration with the late DNA co-discoverer Francis Crick. Now Tononi and Koch are actively researching the theory along with an increasing number of scientists, some from outside the field of neuroscience like esteemed physicist and popular author Max Tegmark, who is joining the ranks of those who believe they’ve figured out how to reduce one of science’s greatest secrets to numbers. Bits of information to be exact.

(Learning To Unclench Your Light Through Balance

And Seeing Which Is Ego And Which Is Emotion In Your Responsibilities)

How often are we told to see the light within? How often are we told to let our light shine through in all we do? How often do we hold back our own light and let others shine before us? How many times have you had to hide your own light to feel or be safe within the moments in your life? How many times have you wondered why? Why do I have this light if all I can do is hide it out of fear? What is the sense of having something so powerful yet so condemned and damned that to speak of it could cost me everything within my life including it? When have you stopped to think and understand that this is not anything you have done but others have done unto you? How many times have to seen that, this is  the product of fear from others, not myself but you wear the chains that others have placed upon you without even knowing it? If you have you have learned that it is in fact others Fears and Egos that hold you down, not yourself.

What is this inner light? Why do we have this & why is it so condemning to others eyes and beliefs? More questionable thoughts then answerable ones arise as we look deeper into the mystery of ourselves. We seek to understand but lack the knowledge to comprehend. For without knowledge one can not begin the process of understanding and will never gain wisdom from their lessons if they do  not first gain the knowledge needed from them first. The light? Our true selves in energy. It is what we truly are and our gifts are mere inklings of the true unharnessed power we hold upon the spiritual plane. It is not what we can imagine that we can do, it is what we deem unfathomable that is just the beginning of what we can. Take that first step and now see why the light within each is feared by the ignorance of the world. It is now what we can do that others fear, it is the potential and unknown that we could do that they tremble over.

But what if what we already do is far beyond what most consider beyond the fathoms of understanding? What if we are beyond what they fear and do not comprehend? What if we are so bright within our light that they can not control us with their chains but only with words to demoralize us? If even in this, do we have the power or do we outshine the mud and soil cast upon us? Can we survive under the weight of the stones built upon us? With our Faith within us and our light held firm, none shall cast dirt upon you and no weight will seem heavier then a shirt of silk upon your back. For within us shine a power to move more then mountains , we can change worlds within a blink and shatter worlds within a breath. This is why we are feared.

With the axiom “With great power comes great responsibility” ― Voltaire we all stand accountable for everything we do. If we can move mountain with a thought and destroy worlds in a breath what control do we have over ourselves in a fit of rage? Of jealousy or Lust? How do we hold ourselves accountable in these moments of lapse and pause? How we we discern which from and discriminate the balance of each when we ourselves are as unbalanced as a top that is slowing from it’s spinning? How can we step back from our own flames and see tat we have set ourselves alight in the wanting of warmth and comfort? Through our responsibilities we gain the sight to overcome the blinding that we do to ourselves and what others have done to ourselves. We no longer need their yolk but only the guidance from a higher power to lead us through this time of awakening and opening of ourselves to responsibleness and understanding. At this point, man no longer can lead man. Spirit is the only power that will be able to guide man past the lessons that he/she/they will face from now on. Responsibility is no longer of self-mastery but of the world around you. You now have the world as your responsibility not just yourself. You are no longer a man of I, but one of All. You no longer walk in Ego but walk with All. And with All you will see that all before you has been a world unseen by the ones who yolked you, now the only thing that guides you is Spirit and there is never boundaries when all before you is freedom within and freedom without.

THE ALL is MIND; The Universe is Mental.” — The Kybalion.

This Principle embodies the truth that “All is Mind.” It explains that THE ALL (which is the Substantial Reality underlying all the outward manifestations and appearances which we know under the terms of “The Material Universe”; the “Phenomena of Life”; “Matter”; “Energy”; and, in short, all that is apparent to our material senses) is SPIRIT, which in itself is UNKNOWABLE and UNDEFINABLE, but which may be considered and thought of as AN UNIVERSAL, INFINITE, LIVING MIND. It also explains that all the phenomenal world or universe is simply a Mental Creation of THE ALL, subject to the Laws of Created Things, and that the universe, as a whole, and in its parts or units, has its existence in the Mind of THE ALL, in which Mind we “live and move and have our being.” This Principle, by establishing the Mental Nature of the Universe, easily explains all of the varied mental and psychic phenomena that occupy such a large portion of the public attention, and which, without such explanation, are non-understandable and defy scientific treatment. An understanding of this great hermetic Principle of Mentalism enables the individual to readily grasp the laws of the Mental Universe, and to apply the same to his well-being and advancement. The Hermetic Student is enabled to apply intelligently the great Mental Laws, instead of using them in a haphazard manner. With tire Master-Key in his possession, the student may unlock the many doors of the mental and psychic temple of knowledge, and enter the same freely and intelligently. This Principle explains the true nature of “Energy,” “Power,” and “Matter,” and why and how all these are subordinate to the Mastery of Mind. One of the old Hermetic Masters wrote, long ages ago: “He who grasps the truth of the Mental Nature of the Universe is well advanced on The Path to Mastery.” And these words are as true to-day as at the time they were first written. Without this Master-Key, Mastery is impossible, and the student knocks in vain at the many doors of The Temple.

Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates.” — The Kybalion.

This Principle embodies the truth that in everything there is manifested a measured motion, to and fro; a flow and inflow; a swing backward and forward; a pendulum-like movement; a tide-like ebb and flow; a high-tide and low-tide; between the two poles which exist in accordance with the Principle of Polarity described a moment ago. There is always an action and a reaction; an advance and a retreat a rising and a sinking. This is in the affairs of the Universe, suns, worlds, men, animals, mind, energy, and matter. This law is manifest in the creation and destruction of worlds; in the rise and fall of nations; in the life of all things; and finally in the mental states of Man (and it is with this latter that the Hermetists find the understanding of the Principle most important). The Hermetists have grasped this Principle, finding its universal application, and have also discovered certain means to overcome its effects in themselves by the use of the appropriate formulas and methods. They apply the Mental Law of Neutralization. They cannot annul the Principle, or Cause it to cease its operation, but they have learned how to escape its effects upon themselves to a certain degree depending upon the Mastery of the Principle. They have learned how to USE it, instead of being USED BY it. In this and similar methods, consist the Art of the Hermetists. The Master of Hermetics polarizes himself at the point at which he desires to rest, and then neutralizes the Rhythmic swing of the pendulum which would tend to carry him to the other pole. All individuals who have attained any degree of Self-Mastery do this to a certain degree, more or less unconsciously, but the Master does this consciously, and by the use of his Will and attains a degree of Poise and Mental Firmness almost impossible of belief on the part of the masses who are swung backward and forward like a pendulum. This Principle and that of Polarity have been closely studied by the Hermetists, and the methods of counteracting, neutralizing and USING them form an important part of the Hermetic Mental Alchemy.

Every Cause has its Effect; every Effect has its Cause; everything happens according to Law; Chance is but a name for Law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the Law.” —The Kybalion.

This Principle embodies the fact that there is a Cause for every Effect; an Effect from every Cause. It explains that: “Everything Happens according to Law”; that nothing ever “merely happens”; that there is no such thing as Chance; that while there are various planes of Cause and Effect, the higher dominating the lower planes, still nothing ever entirely escapes the Law. The Hermetists understand the art and methods of rising above the ordinary plane of Cause and Effect, to a certain degree, and by mentally rising to a higher plane they become Causers instead of Effects. The masses of people are carried along, obedient to environment; the wills and desires of others stronger than themselves; heredity; suggestion; and other outward causes moving them about like pawns on the Chessboard of Life. But the Masters, rising to the plane above, dominate their moods, characters, qualities, and powers, as well as the environment surrounding them, and become Movers instead of pawns. They help to PLAY THE GAME OF LIFE, instead of being played and moved about by other wills and environment. They USE the Principle instead of being its tools. The Masters obey the Causation of the higher planes, but they help to RULE on their own plane. In this statement there is condensed a wealth of Hermetic knowledge — let him read who can.

Check Please at Music School

I have been led to understand that there’s a powerful tradition of alternate universes in this fandom that I have fallen into, mostly because of the morning I spent giggling over all of @itsybittle‘s beautiful AUs. Let’s unleash this unholy fury of my own AU idea upon the world.

The Check Please! cast as music majors rather than hockey nerds, performing in orchestra and solo settings while learning all about musical theory and history. I deeply apologise to anyone who’s already thought of this. But:

Bitty plays the flute, duh. That’s one of those no-brainer choices. And he’s godly at ensemble playing, since Coach eventually just gave up on trying to get him away from music and signed him up for a community orchestra. He’s been first flute in that orchestra for years, and it just seemed natural to go into music because it’s what he’s good at, and what he knows. So he got himself a tutor to prepare for the uni audition.

And then discovered that he has stage fright. Like, really bad stage fright. Like, piss your pants and fall over in a faint in front of the audience stage fright. And it’s only when he has a solo. As long as he has backup on stage with him, he’s fine. But solos are impossible, which he never realised because he’s only done ensemble playing. He gets through the uni audition on sheer nerve, and he’s a nervous wreck for a week afterwards. That’s when his family decides that he should see a psychologist before this does murder to him and his potential career.

Anyway, he gets in to his University’s school of music. Here comes the slew of characters.

Secondhand Soulmate (Stiles/Derek)

Secondhand Soulmate. Stiles/Derek. Teen. 3/6.

Not always, not even most of the time, but sometimes –  24% of the time, statistically speaking – people meet their soulmates and live happily ever after.

THIS isn’t that story.

This is the story of Stiles Stilinski, whose soulmate died before he was born.  This is the story of all the sorrows and heartache Stiles experienced, all the bullying and oppression from those who should know better but didn’t.  This is also the story of the friendships Stiles made along the way, of the battles he fought – and won – and the love that endured through it all.

Date show / Talk show Genesis just because some people seem to like him a lot. I’m grateful and pleasantly surprised all at once. Also I’m not sure why I keep drawing him with thicker and thicker eyelashes, but I’m rolling with it.

Unrelated to the pic: under the cut is an aimless, self-serving, dimensional-crossover one-shot (Genesis into canon/normal OPM universe), which I’m not sure why I wrote but I’m going to share anyway. It’s really nothing but 2k worth of worshippy android.

Phanniemay prompt: Girl Power

Drabble Request: Valerie Grey, ghost hunter, and holder of a special power.

“Could be worse,” the seventeen-year-old slouching along beside her muttered.  His black hair dangled in his eyes and a ratty backpack was tossed over his shoulder.  Rain drizzled around them, and the early evening shadows were longer and darker than usual for the time of day.

“Could be?” Valerie asked, curious.  She settled the hood of her jacket over her forehead again – it kept working backwards to allow rain to splatter on her face.  The late March shower was unwelcome and cold.

The boy shrugged and knocked on a passing wooden light pole.  “No ghosts, right?”  He shot her a thin smile.  Deep in the back of his eyes, reflected from the fluorescent light overhead, radiant green sparkled amongst the blue.

Valerie frowned, looking around.  “Point,” she murmured.

“Yay for living in Amity Park,” he continued with a sigh, stuffing his hands into the pockets of his jeans.  Without a raincoat of his own, the teenager was getting soaked.  “Six more months and we’re out of here.”

“You really think they’ll be able to handle the ghosts without us?”

Danny shot her a look that bordered on incredulous.  The rain made his face look smeary.  “I thought you were the one that was so up on all of us leaving this place.”

“We don’t want to stay here forever.”  Valerie chanced looking upwards, checking out the dark clouds.  They were thick blankets that stretched from horizon to horizon.  “You don’t either,” she added, elbowing him in the ribs.

Grimacing and rubbing his side, Danny scowled.  “I know.  College is a good thing.  Leaving here is a good thing.”  It sounded like a mantra he’d been forced to repeat day-in and day-out for the last several months.

What's the biggest difference between America and Germany for you?

America, as in USA or the whole continent? ;) (You will hear this a lot from Europeans, so get ready, hah.) I’m German and have lived & worked in the US, so based on that I would say, these are some major differences:

- Political correctness and general vagueness associated with the English language and resulting cultures. Do not expect Germans to constantly censor themselves in that way. Also, try to express yourself clearly in Germany by simply saying what you want, need, are happy about or bothered by. People around will do the same. If you don’t want an honest opinion, don’t ask for it.

- Attitude towards guns and war. We don’t do guns and, having had all this war on our soil, especially the last one, we’re generally not in favor of any more war and will prefer diplomacy and finding other solutions. We also have really low crime compared to the US. Also read this

- Differences in modesty and self-depreciation. It’s uncool in Germany to boast or be really loud in public or to display extreme wealth. Americans are famous for sort of “waltzing” into a place and taking up a lot of space. We see this in tourists a lot. There will be exceptions with Germans as well (we have a “jet set” class, too), but generally it’s just considered bad taste. Example: Loud cell phone conversations on public transportation or being really loud in restaurants. Germany is more of a group culture, while the US is an individual culture. This means that “Rücksicht” = consideration, respect, or regard for others is important to us. I have observed similar concepts in Asia, e.g. Japan.

- Physical personal space. You will not hear “excuse me” from Germans or Europeans in general every 5 minutes when people just walk by. I found it “polite” but extreme in the USA how people excuse themselves when they pass you 3 meters away. :D

- Fake smiles/friendliness. There is little to no fake smiling in Germany. Germans smile when there is something to smile about and are upbeat when they’re happy. It isn’t your “duty” to constantly sound like a cheerleader. The idea being that life comes with ups and downs, so why “fake it”? Americans will find Germans rude, especially in stores.

- Work culture. Again, more like East Asian countries than the USA. We’re perfectionists, and most people either go to university or do 3 year training for just about any occupation you can think of, incl, handy professions, service and office jobs. That means that people really learn their trade and it’s often for life that they stay in that same field. So in Germany, much less flexibility than in the US, but greater professionalism and also perfectionism at work. In the US you have to boast in a job interview, in Germany, you should display some modesty and let your credentials speak for themselves.

- Vacation/holidays and more time off in general. Germans generally get 4 weeks of vacation a year - it’s the law. They also take that vacation and the longer you stay in a job, the more vacation you get. This leads to greater company loyalty and less stressed employees. A job isn’t just a paycheck.

- Social benefits. Compared to the US, we have “free” healthcare financed by what we pay in taxes, free university, and very generous child benefits. We have “Kindergeld”, a concept where you receive an allowance for each child - read this. Maternity leave is generous and applies to males, too. Read this.

I could go on but this already is too long and these are some major differences I’ve noticed between the 2 countries. All in all, life seems far more stressful to me in the US. But that doesn’t mean Germany can’t be stressful. It’s more of a matter of perspective and having things/other countries to compare it with.

Dua Requests

Salaam everyone. As some of you may have seen, I posted on my blog asking anyone who has a dua request to come forward and send me a message. I have taken most of the anon messages and some of the longer messages that I could shorten, and i’ve put them below for everyone to read and also make dua. I urge you all to read these and PLEASE MAKE DUA for everyone who asked for a dua. Honestly, some of the problems people have mentioned were heartbreaking (especially some of the longer messages that were not private and people asked me not to post details about).

I made dua for you all. Every single person that has asked for a dua, I have asked Allah to help them. As I mentioned in the original post about the duas, my duas are nothing special. They’re just regular duas but every little dua helps. Please remember to pray for yourselves too. A lot of people have kind souls and care a lot about others but don’t make dua for themselves in the same way. Don’t let that be you. when you ask Allah directly, there will be a greater connection between you and Him. IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW RELIGIOUS YOU ARE! JUST MAKE DUA. ALLAH LOVES YOU.

Some of the dua requests that were sent are below.

Salam. My husband has lost his faith, but we’re madly in love and he doesn’t stop me from anything regarding religion.

I’m going through a really difficult phase where I’m learning to be tougher. I am a very sensitive person, shy and I struggle with standing up for myself. I feel like I’m failing everything.. I’m in pieces, because I face a lot of discrimination.

I’m so scared right now. I don’t know how to keep hanging on any longer. I’ve reached out to you before. But I don’t know if I can bring myself to do it again. I really don’t want to be a burden on you

please pray for me that i will reunite with my dad someday. missing him is worser than missing someone’s who’s dead. i struggle alot. my family is broken. im jobless. i need a job to ease my mum’s burden. been applying jobs here and there but no reply at all. i pity her at times?? i can barely holding on. ive been going through alot that i felt im used to feeling broken & sad. please pray for me that i’ll make it through someday.

Salam, I’ve just had a divorce and my ex in laws are trying to make my life very difficult and horrible. They are spreading horrible things about me to the community and they are not letting me move on with my life. And the saddest thing of all is that my marriage ended due to intimidating threats I received throughout and because I put an end to it they want to ruin my life. They also want to stop me remarrying later. I just feel sad sometimes, please keep me in your duas. Thanks

I dont know how to put my struggle to words but Allah swt knows. I will greatly appreciate your duas. May Allah reward you immensly and grant you everything you ever wish for in this dunya and in the akhirah. Ameen.

My life is a mess and i know many people think this about their lives but honestly it is a mess. I have nothing and nobody (literally) that is ever willing to even listen to me. Not family nor friends. Please make dua that Allah gives me just one person with a good soul that can help me because it’s hard tot be positive on spirituality only. I know Allah helps but I need to feel something because it’s all making me so numb. Please pray for me

I’m hurting and having a hard time–I don’t really know what to do except to wait for God, try, and be patient. But another’s prayer may possibly provide grace…. (this message was long so shortening it so others don’t just scroll past it) …Please don’t respond… just mention a prayer for my boyfriend’s heart to be comforted, for him to find joy and peace in his grandmother’s rest, for his family’s heart to soften and find closeness, for his heart to soften, and his health to be restored and strengthen, to be provided for, for all his pain to be relieved, for joy, hope, and positivity to replace his sorrow, and for God’s will to deliver him into happiness and ease.

I used to be with someone who I almost told my parents about who took the most special thing of me all because it was a bet. He mentally & emotionally ruined me & then one day, he hit me. I went home with black& blues but it didn’t end there. He continued to threaten me for months saying that he’ll ruin my life. It’s almost been two years &I’m still scared for my life. The worst part of this entire situation is that I still love him. I gave him all of me. I don’t know how to move forward

Pray that we can all pray for ourselves during tough times. That we don’t forget Allah. Clearly He is forever present and we are the ones that forget or are absent of His knowledge and His being. I hope that Allah places ease in your heart, contentment and grants you and those who read this message with hope, light and love. Allah is forever the owner of the universe, may we beautify the earth that He selected as our temporary home.

Please make a dua for me! I try so hard with work and nothing seems to work out for me. I have money problems and i just can’t seem to get out of them. I’m not in debt or anything alhamdulillah but i want to earn for myself and it just doesn’t work for me. Please make a dua for me because it’s stressful not being able to afford things in life. Thank you

salam. can i still do this? i used to love studying but now i can barely sit 2 hours in front of my biology book. i feel like nothings worth it. i probably wont get a job after i graduate bcs of the economy. i wanna help people w my work while still supporting my family. weve been through so much n i was hopin i could graduate w a job tht could ease their burdens. but i cant have that now. the worlds falling apart. i dont know what im even doing at uni. i feel like peace only belongs to the dead

Salaamu Alaikum.. Please make Du'a that Allah guides me and my family, forgives our sins and bring us closer to Him, His Prophet, The Prophets Family and the righteous companions, peace and blessings be upon them all. Jazak'Allah Khair. Please don’t forget - it’d mean more than the world to me.

Salaam i really need your duas please. I don’t even know what to ask for because i’m going through so much. Just please please say a prayer for me and my family. We have been through a lot of hardship and loss in the family lately and it feels unreal. My mother is going through so much mentally and physically that i cry at night just worrying about her sometimes. Please i beg you to pray for me and ask Allah to help us

Assalaam Alaikum brother, Please pray to Allah that He mend my broken heart, that He ease my suffering and that He protect me and grant me what I constantly ask for, what I want, if it’s good for me. And to grant me patience and contentment with His decree. Jazakhallah khair Yours sister

I’ve dealt with depression and an eating disorder this year. A level results are coming out in a week. I know what I’ve gone through has a huge chance of negatively affecting my results but I still keep sincere hope in Allah that He Alone helps the distressed soul and that He always answers a sincere dua. My family tell me my blind faith is ridiculous and such miracles don’t exist. I wish I could tell you how sad and helpless I feel. May Allah reward you in the best of ways. Ameen

If your dua request isn’t here, don’t worry I still made dua for you. I promise!

May Allah help all of those that need, want or seek His help. Ameen

Who really is White Diamond?

This probably wont happen in the show, but hear me out… its pretty cool.

So, in Physics, it is a fact that when yellow and blue light are combined it makes white light. This is because yellow and blue are complementary to each other, and therefore are opposites that reform white light that has been refracted into the colors of the light spectrum.

From what we know, Yellow Diamond is a harsh, intimidating, quick to anger, proud, stern, and a “general-like” leader who rules over her domain with an “iron fist.” She not only wants to take control of Earth, but destroy it entirely to use as a geo-weapon with the Cluster.

Blue Diamond on the other hand, although she is still firm on her laws (as we see with her capital punishment law when Ruby fuses with Sapphire), she seems to be more calm and collected than Yellow Diamond. She appears to be more like a “queen” as she sits on a throne overlooking her court. She is likely to be more insightful, as she did not seem to want to destroy Earth in the episode The Answer, but rather to colonize it.

So, Blue Diamonds’ and Yellow Diamonds’ personalities are near polar opposite of each other, which would go along with the law of physics.

But okay, the Diamonds are Gems, not light. So how else does the Yellow/Blue Light theory apply?

Well, in the episode We Need To Talk, Garnet tells Greg in a flashback the steps needed for two gems to fuse. They are:

“First you need a Gem at the core of your being.

Then you need a body that than turn into LIGHT.

Then you need a parter that you can trust with that light.”

Basically, Garnet is claiming that during fusion, the Gems will temporarily turn into pure light before reforming (as we have seen with every on-screen fusion).

SO, if Yellow and Blue Diamond were to fuse, not only would they turn into light temporarily, but their complementary colors would “fuse” to form a white gem!

White Diamonds’ mural also seems to share physical similarities between the two Diamonds, as she has Yellows’ spiked hair (but it’s longer bc of Blues’ hair), she has Yellow Diamonds’ risen shoulder pads, and may be wearing a tight dress or cape-like outfit as a mixture of Blues’ dress and Yellows’ pants/long shirt.

She would have command over both of their kingdoms and whose personality would be the mixture of Y/B, which would make a very controlled, tactical, intelligent, and inspirational leader!

(I do not know where Yellow and Blue Diamonds’ gems would go, as White Diamonds’ gem is on her forehead, so that part is up to you guys to decide)
