that'll be a tag now

Despite all the incredible previews, I’ll admit I was a little wary going into Moo Moo, only because racial profiling is a really heavy topic to cover in ~22 minutes, especially in a comedy. I spent a lot of time thinking about how the conflict between Terry and Holt might play out. My fear was either the episode would slip into “after school special” territory and ultimately present a superficial, overly simplistic depiction of the issue, or veer all the off to the other end and give us a dark, bleak ending devoid of that hope and optimism that makes B99 so special. Nothing against B99 – I’ve just been burned by many a show before, and this is a topic that could be an absolute disaster in the wrong hands.

But then there’s this? A show that is thoughtful and nuanced while showing us the horrors of racial profiling and the complexities of reporting it, that doesn’t shy away from the fact that we still have a lot of work to do but also allows Terry and Holt to have their own personal victory? That covered a super serious subject, including a conversation where two beautiful young black girls asked questions they should never have to ask, but still allowed for moments of joy and laughter that felt genuine? And that did it all in about twenty minutes, wrapping up on a beautifully bittersweet note that was just the right tone for an episode of this level of importance?

I’m just in awe. And I feel really, really lucky that we have so many incredible people involved with this show who share it with us.

today’s shitty au: pepsicola miraculous-style au

where john is too far into the closet to admit his feelings for dave, except as his superhero identity, breeze. meanwhile, breeze also has to deal with his annoying partner-in-crimefighting, turntable, who absolutely has a thing for breeze and hits on him with a lot of entirely transparent “jokes”. turntable is, naturally, john’s best friend dave, who remains entirely oblivious to exactly how far in the closet john is, and mistakes all of john’s attempts at admitting anything as being actual jokes

it’s all extremely frustrating and confusing, neither of them know about each other secretly being superheroes, and the amount of shenanigans that ensue from their emotions and combined superpowers is absolutely preposterous

(the origins episode absolutely features the day john gave dave his shades, which is coincidentally the day they met their sprites kwamis)

where did you publish Mafia AU ? i saw you talk about it few times but i never saw any link :/

If you’re talking about the comic I keep talking about, I’m still working on it!! 😰I’m setting a deadline for the end of June for myself (just because I need to get postcard prints done first for the doujin bundles since the deadline on those for the printer is sooner, and then my zine piece is due at the beginning of June). So around the end of June I’ll hopefully have the doujin done and can start selling preorders for it and get it printed. I’ll keep everyone updated on it, don’t worry!

Taking a Sick Day

Hey y’all! So uh….. I tried my hand some g/t writing, based off an idea @pizsospa and myself had, so without further ado, here it is!

It had been weeks since it happened.

Weeks since she and her friends snuck into the household of the egos. Shop couldn’t remember for the life of her WHY they did it. Was a bet? Were they escaping from something? The three of them couldn’t have hidden away in a household full of mini giants for no reason…could they?

Maybe she felt like this because of where she decided to sneak into… while one friend had run off to find Wilford, and the other to the Host, Shop had decided to sneak into Dark’s domain, stupidly choosing to ignore the little voice in her head screaming how bad of an idea it was as she crossed the threshold.

At first, she thought it would work out, full of hope that Dark was not as bad as he always appeared, but she quickly found this is be wrong. Oh so wrong. While he wasn’t quite as malicious as some might have thought, he was still dangerous, and crafty at that, though Shop should have known this, given his manipulative nature.

While her friends were treated with care and spoken to as equals (as far as she could tell), Shop found herself becoming Dark’s personal ‘assistant’, which wouldn’t be all that bad, if being his assistant didn’t mean everything from being a stress reliever in long board meetings, to performing menial tasks while he watches from afar. Shop presumed this was due to her size; when compared to him and everything else in the house, only coming up to someone’s knee seems to make everything just a bit harder to do.

I just sat down a watched the DuckTales reboot pilot, and speaking as a huge fan of the original, this seems like a great reboot and a pretty good show over all.
I'ma ramble on my thoughts, what I liked, and what I hope happens below

They differentiated Huey, Dewey, and Louie perfectly. With the original, I wouldn’t say they were the same character, just that it was Really hard to tell them apart (the only reason I was able to before the Reboot was because I knew Huey as red because red is a bright hue, Dewey is Blue because Dew is water and water is stylized as blue, and Louie is green because green’s the left over)

I knew one was the leader, one was smart, and one was better at tricks, but I wasn’t able to do so off the top of my head as a kid. You couldn’t really get much from their designs beyond Mischievous Little Boys from their old designs. I can’t sing the reboot enough praises for this.

You could really tell that there was love from old fans that went into this, between the theme and Scrooge’s reputation as a retired adventurer going back into it- seemed like a nice metaphor for how loved the original was and how DuckTales is back

I loves me some loving families in cartoons, and this delivered. The way they fleshed out the backstory for Donald and Scrooge, and the way everyone interacted was a nice addition. I like how Della Duck (if that is her name here) is important to the backstory, instead of just being a nonentity name who carries no role. I’m looking forward to learning about her.

Webby is Very different, I’d even go as far as to say she’s an In Name Only adaptation, but that’s fine. She’s likable, and the Reboot is trying to do its own thing, fleshing everyone out more. The Reboot is connected to the original because it’s a reboot, but I can respect as being a different show.

That’s also why I’m okay with the butler being adapted out, despite him being one of my favorite characters. He seems to have been absorbed into Beckley. Just wish it was under a different name, like how the different Scooby Doo iterations had different names (A Pup Named Scooby Doo, What’s New Scooby Doo, Mystery Inc, ect).

I still prefer the animation and art style of the original, but that’s prolly because I grew up with it

One missed opportunity I felt the original had was the lack of references to the other Micky and Co. I don’t recall any, actually, and all I’m saying is child me would have Loved a crossover with the Goof Troop. I just want nods to the others- Scrooge mentioning the richest Mouse in the world while Donald chuckles at him, or Donald mentioning his friend’s son who used to babysit before going off to college.
