that was supposed to be a photo post

@a-century-of-fakers → Has an amazing blog. Their sims are adorable and their aesthetic is on point! Each post become my favorite and they should really be printed and displayed in an art gallery. There’s a really special and unique thing both beautiful, mysterious, funny, and conceptual. I wonder what magic makes every photo set look totally random but also exactly how it’s supposed to be. On top of that they build beautiful lots and have a good taste in cc. This blog is a whole wonderful universe! -anonymous

Hi Tumblr—

We’ve heard from a bunch of you that Safe Mode was filtering posts from the LGBTQ+ community even though they were completely innocuous and totally safe-for-work. Please know that was never our intention, and we appreciate you letting us know so quickly—and forcefully! We’re deeply sorry. Tumblr will always be a place where everyone is welcome and protected, so we want to explain what happened.

The major issue was some Tumblrs had marked themselves as Adult/NSFW (now Explicit) as a courtesy to their fellow users, and their perfectly safe posts were getting marked sensitive unintentionally. That should never have happened. We’re sorry.

We’re making some changes that should improve things:

Changes to self-marked blogs

What was happening: Because we consider Explicit blogs to be predominantly sensitive content, we were automatically marking all their posts as sensitive. That was too broad.

What we fixed: Now each post is classified individually. As they should be.

Changes to reblog chains

What was happening: If an Explicit Tumblr reblogged a safe post, we were marking that reblog as sensitive. This was even happening to text posts. Which is silly.

What we fixed: We changed the logic so that if the OP is safe, all its reblogs will also be safe.

Changes to photosets

What’s (still) happening: When you make a photo post, a computer algorithm classifies the image as safe or sensitive. It’s a machine so it’s not perfect. And the chances go up with photosets because there are multiple images. But out of an abundance of caution we keep posts marked sensitive until the OP requests a human review (by tapping the appeal button on their posts).

What we’re working on: We plan to have photosets analyzed as a whole group, rather than as individual images. That should reduce the number of mistakes the machine makes.

Safe Mode is supposed to make sure people aren’t surprised by things they may not want to see—specifically, nudity. It might take some time to get it perfect, but we’re committed to getting there with your help. Our algorithms will keep getting smarter as you give feedback on misclassified posts, and as you share your concerns and suggestions.

❤️

Long story short.

Me: *goes up to Jensen and Misha feeling her heart beating all the way up in her throat*

Jensen & Misha: *smiling* “Hiiiii!”

Me: *smiles and stumbles over her own words*

Me: “I’m sorry, I know its not pie, but it’s the closest I could find. so I was wondering what would Dean’s and Castiel’s reaction be to seeing this monster donut.”

Lol, I have no idea what Misha as Cas is doing. Feeling for a heartbeat? Looking for molecules? Giving the donut a blessing? :’) One will never know… Some friends and I were reminded of something else as well, but that I won’t mention right now… :‘P

I’m only about 2.5 weeks post op, and I’m Not supposed to raise my arms anywhere near above my head– but marching with women for women felt like the best excuse to do so. (I only took off my shirt for this photo, I’m not completely neglecting my scars or healing).

About the new censorship filter

First and foremost: IT HAS BECOME VERY CLEAR TO ME THAT LGBT CONTENT IS NOT INTENTIONALLY BEING FILTERED OUT

I checked several LGBT related tags and the tags were still full of content with the filter on. I checked several porn tags, and they were totally empty. It’s legitimately meant to only filter adult content, anything else being marked as sensitive content is a bug and not done by design.

EDIT: STAFF HAS MADE AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT LEAVE ME ALONE IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HOMOPHOBIA OR WHATEVER ELSE YALL HAVE YOUR G STRINGS IN A KNOT OVER. IT NEVER DID. WHINE ABOUT STAFF BEING INCOMPETENT SOMEWHERE ELSE I LITERALLY DO NOT CARE. Edit 2: Staff’s official statement since y'all can’t be bothered to find it yourselves- “Hi Tumblr— We’ve heard from a bunch of you that Safe Mode was filtering posts from the LGBTQ+ community even though they were completely innocuous and totally safe-for-work. Piss a man off today: Tell him you agree with his compliment of you.

  • Men, who don’t (as often) have to deal with Men retracting compliments when they agree with them, are really upset in my mentions 😂😂😂
  • Also an interesting observation is how many assume that a woman wouldn’t say Thank You when agreeing with them. Lol
  • “Just say Thank You” they cry, not knowing what to do after a woman agrees with them.
  • They even complain when you say “Thanks” with a straight face instead of “Thank you” with frilly giggles and fake blushed 😂😂😂😂
  • I’ve had SEVERAL men tell me they found “thanks” an offensive reply to a compliment given to a woman 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
  • I see it every day because that’s my usual response.
  • “Thanks” and keep walking. I get yelled at. Cursed at. “That’s all you gonna say?”
  • That goes back to what most women were saying abt their experiences w/this. The expectation’s that women should show no self-appreciation
  • And/or should be overjoyed by a someone (a man) saying something positive about them (that they weren’t supposed to know already)
  • Men as teachers. Men as validation. Men as approval. Men as decision-makers of what is “hot”. Men as arbiters of praise. Men in control.

Another watercolor piece from December last year. The original was supposed to arrive with the snail mail at @ameb-stuff‘s place but it appears to have gotten lost forever. Which is a little sad. At least I’ve still got photos of it, and now you can see it here! Holding thumbs and fingers crossed that the painting will still somehow show up!

If y’all haven’t already, you should all check out Ameb’s wonderful undertale comic UNSPKN. Just be prepared for feels.

Happy New Year, a month late, and Happy Year of the Rooster!

Massive update on safe mode

Okay, first off. I’m sorry. Everybody was in the heat of the moment and reacted terribly with the new update. I was a big part in that and I feel bad about it. But there are some new things going on with the update that they have fixed/explained to us.

#1 : Replied to my email about the issue.

We invite you to check out the post on our Staff blog for more details on what happened and what were doing to improve things: https://staff.tumblr.com/post/162178688374/safe-mode-update

Thanks again,

First off, I’d like to thank them for answering so quickly and responsibly. They fully explained the issue to me in a very adult manor and I very much appreciate that.

Second, they actually gave me a explanation for the issue unlike most staff/helpers online. Which i again, very much appreciate.

#2: They are trying to fix the issue as quickly as they can without 100% removing the feature.

This, to me, is very understandable. the update on staff’s official blog is this:

And finally, please stop attacking staff with this issue. They are trying to help us and do not want to hurt us. You are simply putting them under much more pressure and stress than helping. They are not trying to hurt us. Stop attacking them over this.

I will email them and contact them with further issues about this, thank you.

Any opinions on Dex/Nursey as parents?

OOF. So I’m actually halfway into the first chapter of a secretdad!Nursey fic so I have a lot of dad!Nursey thoughts, but I actually had to put some thought into dad!Dex opinions, and then a good amount of thought into the combination of Dex/Nursey as parents! That said, do I have opinions on Dex/Nursey as parents?

DO I EVER, MY FRIEND.

  • So first off: the way these boys were brought up has a Big Impact on how they are as parents.
    • Nursey was raised by two moms who loved him to pieces and let him be soft and feminine when he wanted to be and were hugely affectionate when they were there, but who also traveled a lot for work. Dex was raised by parents who also worked a lot, but who were almost always stressed about money–and he felt that stress really young and learned to internalize it. They both love their parents, but they also both picked up a lot from their parents–both “what to do” and “what not to do”.
  • That said:
