Harry Styles' album cover looks VERY familiar, according to these Britpop icons
Rick Witter, the band's frontman, said the similarity between the former One Direction star's album cover and the photo on their 1994 single Ocean Pie was "a nice compliment"
Britpop legends Shed Seven have accused Harry Styles of ripping them off. Lead singer Rick Witter, who fronts the York band, said the former One Direction star’s new album cover is almost identical to the front of their 1994 single Ocean Pie.
He told the Mirror: “When I first saw it I genuinely thought: ‘Are you ripping us off?’. It’s very close to the mark.” But he added: “It’s a nice compliment. They really do say imitation is the biggest form of flattery. I saw him on Graham Norton trying to be all indie. Good luck to the lad.”
Rick said that the band, who are releasing their first new album in 16 years later this year, would not draft in legal bigwigs.
“I’m not going to get lawyers involved…If he keeps our name alive then fair game to him. He can come and see us on tour and get as many tips as he likes on being rock and roll.”
On Harry’s chances of being taken seriously as a rock star, Rick added: “Everyone’s got the right to try. No-one ever took us seriously and we’re still here, clinging to the wreckage. I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve heard a little bit more. Not that I’m on tenterhooks waiting. I’m sure I’ll hear it in some shop.”
