that awesome moment when a graphic comes out like you want it to

Art School | Sophie Roach (Austin, TX)

Drawing and painting her way through an imaginative landscape of intricate and visual entanglements is Austin native, Sophie Roach.  Her artwork has endlessly covered  surfaces from– guitars, beer cans, Vans, to entire rooms.  And if that isn’t already insanely rad, her organic approach and laid back attitude make her not only incredibly humble, but also a super awesome collaborator.  While finishing up one mural and starting up new projects, we had the chance to ask Sophie a few questions about her art, her career, and her approach – from finding her voice, attacking a mural, to digging the quietude one might find as a mail person hah!

Wow what a shit year! Not for anime, I mean, it was okay at worst. I think we’re definitely at the upward slope of the anime renaissance now, but still at the very start of it. It’s hard to think about that when most of what comes out (and is somehow popular) is just…the most generic shit. Well, I did the work for you. I weeded and trudged through some of the worst anime around and even some of my shit favorites to bring you the actual good, worth watching anime of the year.

Yeah, not everything you saw or want to see on this list is here, but you can check my foreword from last week that explains all that garbage. Links to each anime’s respective review will be on the titles (and added for those that just finished). Know that this list is pretty fluid. From 8 or 7 up, it’s all very much I loved them, but the higher up, the more I recommend anyone watch them.

10. Magical Girl Raising Project

Madoka was cool. I finally watched it this year and I was just as blown away by the psychological aspects as I expected to be. It just lacked that extra bite it needed to really scare my pants off. MGRP however, did indeed take a few years off of my life. I’m really in ruins right now since I can grab you by the shoulders and tell you now: you’ll like a lot of these characters and their thought out designs and personalities, but don’t get attached, cus ALMOST ALL OF THEM DIE.

I have to put MGRP on this list because aside from its fun and original designs, awesome interactions, cool-ass premise and execution (sometimes literally), it had some amazing rewatch value. I watched this anime three times, which is a lot to do in one year. I just had to watch people’s reactions and seeing stuff hidden in the background and revisiting some foreshadowing was so much fun. Definitely worth a watch and I’ll cover more about it in my upcoming review.

9. Orange

Regrets, like I have over not putting Kekkai Sensen into last year’s list, are the main theme of Orange. Buried under the shoujo themes of romance, high school, and angst, lies the actual regret: letting a friend kill himself. The main story unfolds itself very slowly as the group of friends discover that is what they must prevent, but it’s done in a realistic way. The signs of depression and suicide are so jokingly cast aside; it’s no wonder people miss it before it’s too late.

The climax of this story was heart-pounding and gut-wrenching. You find yourself rooting so hard for there to be success, to save someone who may not want to be saved, but must be saved. It might also make you pay closer attention to those around you. It’s an important anime to watch. If you do want one with a little less romantic emphasis though, I recommend you see Colorful instead (or also!).

8. Sweetness and Lightning

I need to marry someone who can cook. It doesn’t have to be a five-star chef, though I wouldn’t complain if it were the case, but Sweetness and Lightning reignited my need to be fed well. The show is about how food brings family and friends together. Aside from the great character interactions, well written children characters, and for god’s sake, the beautiful, perfect looking food, this anime was so pure in the amount of love put into it.

The food tops even some shown in Shokugaki no Soma, purely cus it’s doable for someone with a low skill level (like me), the meals are made for picky eaters (like me), and there’s not a ridiculously emphasis put on the orgasmic nature of food. That’s a thing that Shokugeki no Soma and even Koufuku Graffiti used stylistically in a comedic manner, but it doesn’t fit in Sweetness and Lightning for good reason. This show is accessible in that way, making it easier to show to someone who might want to try anime, but doesn’t want all the sexy fanservice.

Kick-ass and Metal come to mind when Drifters is mentioned. I love Kohta Hirano’s previous work, Hellsing, a lot. It was a massive gore and blood fest with a sprinkling of comedy in the mix. This is a war and gore fest with a, not a sprinkling of comedy, but more like Hirano accidentally knocked the bottle of comedy over when he was checking on the oven directly into said mix. It’s really funny, but also really awesome. I have a lot to say about it in my review, but I think a dog fight with dragons involved kind of state my case for me. Also Elves, Dwarves and other Tolkien demihumans and monsters abound. It’s fun.

The animation is also gorgeous, especially that stylized, graphic novel looking opening theme with the rock anthem “Gospel of the Throttle” making you “NA NA NA NA NA NA” along with the characters every opening. It’s an excellent show to watch with friends or get yourself pumped. Returning sometime next year!

6. Kuromukuro

How can something be so trope-y, yet so damn enjoyable? Kuromukuro isn’t an original concept, but is done in an original way. The samurai trapped in a machine for 500 years is the new exchange student. The reluctant heroine needs to board the mecha to fight the alien threat. The school festival has been compromised by an alien mecha entering the atmosphere. This anime is funny, but it’s also emotional and holds a much wider scope than I ever could have expected. P.A. Works has been putting out some good contenders in the last few years, and with their lovely art style and well-balanced budget, they were able to pull off this massive mech story in an engaging and entertaining way.

I applaud the cast for one of the best ensembles on this list, bringing forth some of the best and most memorable character chemistry of the season, and some hilarious situational humor. I also cried a little near the end, but honestly, a lot of anime on this list did that to me this year.

5. My Hero Academia

Shonen anime is such a delight now, always a favorite of mine as a kid, but not as firmly as now. I love the underdogs; I love the over the top villains; I love the powers, the fights, and the yelling to infinity. It’s just so exciting and blood pumping, and MHA made it so refreshing with such an interesting spin. These characters are children, inexperienced, with quirks that may or may not be useful. I love Deku because his anxieties and general feelings of being less than everyone else not only make it exciting to see him overcome them, but to use them to keep his head and ego from getting over inflated like some shonen protagonists. Bakugo is such a good foil to him, showing where this could be a major weakness to a shonen protagonist.

Also it’s coming back with THE TOURNAMENT ARC, and if you’re like me and haven’t started the manga yet, DO IT! You won’t regret it! I’m more than excited to see more of this awesome anime in action.

4. Flip Flappers

This anime, wow this anime. I’m so upset not more people are talking about it, but have you seen this delight for the senses? I’m looking forward to reviewing it now just because my jaw is still kinda on the floor. Beautiful animation, a crazy cool style, and some of the best nonsense in magical-girl but not really fight scenes I’ve seen in a while. This anime reminds me of something, but I can’t quite put my thumb on it. I do know it’s like an amalgamation of my editor’s anime “TYPE” so you’ll see more about that in the review.

But good lord did I love the heart of this show. The pure romance, the exciting battles, the trippy psychological horror. Let me just say, that one episode (the Maria Watches Over Us “GOKIGENYO”), probably has scarred me for life, but I love it. It’s just so different and good. It deserves a watch, just for how delighted your eyes will be.

3. Erased (Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi)

I love a story that can get you emotionally invested and cheering for or yelling at the character who you don’t have any control over. Erased was paced beautifully (though some might disagree due to the slight differences in adaptation), and its animation only made every silent, tender moment more enjoyable to look at before the lighting and mood would change and the feeling of bloodlust would stain the air. That’s how you write suspense.

I’m a little annoyed because apparently some other people were reading some character motivations “differently,” (looking at you crunchyroll), but I think it’s safe to say this doesn’t cross the line into romance, at all, and stays a thriller about growing up in a life-threatening situation.

2. Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu

I love the theatre, and I love comedy and storytelling. This anime manages to hit both of these points while showcasing some of the best animation I’ve ever seen. On top of the animation, there’s good directing, and supporting that is a great soundtrack. The story is vast and covers several characters’ lives over several decades surrounding World War 2.

The rakugo, though, is what makes the story. It’s not the first anime to touch on this topic, but it’s the first to do so in such an interesting way. It was very refreshing compared to a lot of titles on this list (though many of them are refreshing ideas!) with its originality. It’s heartfelt, it’s serious, it’s funny, but it also makes me want to cry. If it weren’t for the top spot being so hype as hell and generally a weekly freak-out among me and my friends, this would have been number one.

1. Mob Psycho 100
What can I say about Mob Psycho that hasn’t already been said? Its opening is gold, its animation is unique and interesting, its writing, directing, and characters are all praise-worthy. It is just hands down the best anime of the year. You may be thinking, “but Mitsu, One Punch Man was number one LAST YEAR. Isn’t Mob a little overhyped?”

No. Sit down and shut up. One is probably one of the best writers on the scene right now and is doing a lot better at writing genuinely empathetic characters and commentary on modern anime genres and tropes than most of the big budget barf fests. I think the “overhyped” talk is nonsense when it comes to mob. It genuinely does some interesting and groundbreaking work. That’s why it’s not only on this list, but number one. It never moved an inch since I decided it should be on the list.

Everything I’ve said has BEEN said by several really good reviewers and critics out there and you should definitely check out what they have to say about it too, because honestly, they’re a lot better than I am. I like Mob Psycho, I like One Punch Man, but I like Mob more. I’m so delighted that One Punch Man will be returning shortly and I only wish for Mob to also share the spotlight, as it deserves.

10 Amazing Queer Comic Creators

I wanted to get to the positive bits of queer stuff and totally avoid any negative today. So I present a list of 10 queer creators you should be checking out, This is by no means a top 10 creators or top 10 queer creators list. This is just 10 queer creators I really like that I managed to think of first. These aren’t in any order or anything so just enjoy seeing 10 awesome persons who can enrich your life with their amazing content.

Jen Bartel: Jen Bartel is an amazing illustrator currently doing covers for Jem and the Holograms and creating her own comic Crystal Fighters on the comic app Stela. I discovered her work Jem and the Holograms and am excited, despite my utter love for Sophie Campbell (and do expect to see her popping up again), for her to do some pages of Jem and the Holograms. She infuses a lot of life into characters, she has a nice style that feels like it has just enough punk rock influence to always be badass.

Marguerite Bennett:  Bennett is one of my favorite writers hands down. She manages to flawlessly creator amazing queer story after amazing queer story. Not only are they amazingly queer but amazingly written when some of the strongest uses of character voice in comics. Along with this she is really great at at humor and I very often find myself giggling across stories she writes. She is currently putting out DC Bombshells and Insexts with Animosity and Josie and the Pussycats coming up soon. I also highly recommend her work on Angela in particular Angela Queen of Hel  that is soon releasing in trade.

Brittany Williams:  Brittany is an amazing artist who’s currently working on Hellcat at Marvel. She is also the artist on Goldie Vance and the upcoming Legend of Korra graphic novels. Brittany’s work manages to have such a wonderful defined style that I can’t help but be impressed with every time. She has a very cute chibi style she also uses and it flows really well with her normal art. I am excited to see anything she draws and it’s always an amazing time visually. When I think amazing art Brittany is always near the top of the list.

Kieron Gillen: Kieron Gillen defined many of Marvel’s most iconic queer characters. While none of the characters he wrote as part of the Young Avengers roster were his own creation America Chavez in particular went from old man’s perverted teen fantasy to bad ass defined queer woman. His work on The Wicked + The Divine is amazing, thought provoking, and charming. Kieron Gillen in many ways is sort of artist personified infact coming out he wrote a whole long  essay because he is like  the writer incarnate. Seriously though he is an amazing talent who manages to really balance so much creatively. When it comes to a large ensemble cast I think there is no writer better to getting them each to feel totally their own and uniquely likeable (or unlikable).

Noelle Stevenson: Noelle has moved away from comics for a little bit but she is one of the most important writers for queer media. With Nimona her webcomic then print comic she helped further prove that webcomics moved to print can be a nice payday for the publisher and the creators (Side note she also did the art on that book, and it’s great). Then being one of the biggest creators on Lumberjanes she has set childrens queer media in comics on fire. I believe Noelle is very much one of the main reasons that so much queer content is getting published in smaller press. Lumberjanes is an amazing series and something that really brought life into the comics field. Right now you can go back and buy her older work including a Secret Wars run of the Runaways that is pretty underrated. You can also see her writing live in animation in the Disney XD show Wander Over Yonder.

Ted Brandt: Inking for Princeless Raven the Pirate Princess Ted is the best in the biz. Ted adds so much to the art and it’s one of the very few times where I can really tell the inkers influence on art. Ted is also just a super nice person in every interaction I have had with him so that is good. Ted is currently putting out Raven The Pirate Princess and you should really be checking it out. It’s super cheap on Comixology and the first two volumes are out in trade. It’s a great time to catch up before issue 9 releases.

Sophie Campbell: Oh my gosh, I can’t even begin to talk about how great Sophie is. Sophie is a double threat being a talented writer and artist. Her art manages to always have lovely body types and I have had the experience of thinking for a moment, people look odd, then i was like “wait these people just look like people.” It’s so amazing, so lively, so fantastic.  I always watch what Sophie is doing be that art or writing.  Sophie is currently putting out reprints of Shadoweyes and Wetmoon some of her older projects. There is more Wetmoon coming in the future as well as a webcomic she is working on. You can also read the book I found Sophie in Jem and the Holograms as she goes to her last issue of drawing the series.

Kate Leth:  Kate’s work in comics transcends her writing and her art. Kate has put so much into She is a founder of The Valkyries making the industry much better for woman working at comic shops. Her writing is also so filled with energy, fun and queer characters. Kate recently had her creator owned project Power Up come out in print and it’s a great comic. Kate always manages to really bring this lovely lively feeling and Power Up displays that pretty well. She is also doing writing on Hellcat, Girl Over Paris, and Vampirella.

Shannon Watters:  I had to have an editor somewhere here and Shannon is the very best in the business. She edits pretty much if not all the Boombox books and is a leading force for queer representation in the comics industry. In fact she now shares writing duty for Lumberjanes after Noelle Stevenson left the book. She is a fantastic writer, fantastic editor, and a general talent. You can find her work on a lot of things since she is Head of KaBOOM! & BOOM! Box.

Magdalene Visaggio: I wanted to include Mags here despite not really being attached to her work yet. She is the writer of the upcoming Kim and Kim and it’s my most anticipated comic this year. Mags is a trans woman getting to write a trans woman and this is so insanely rare in print comics. Reading the preview and the earlier tease of it both filled me with so much joy. Kim and Kim is a book I have all my faith in and I really want it to be a success so please do check out Kim and Kim issue 1 that is coming out very soon.

You’re the Reason I Come Home (Part 2/2)

Summary: You and Bucky have been through a lot together. But when things become too much and Bucky breaks up with you, you find that you could lose him completely.

Pairing: Bucky x Reader

Word Count: 3,800

Warnings: Language, slight mention of injury (nothing graphic), mention of death, slight depression, & OH GOD THE ANGST. (but stick with it, I promise)

A/N: This fic got a lot more recognition than what I was expecting, so thank you for that!! It’s almost to 300 notes now, so that’s pretty crazy for my first fic after hiatus. But I hope you guys enjoy this just as much (or even more) than Part 1, as this part is definitely my favorite. It was awesome to write & to be narcissistic, I kinda teared up a bit while writing the ending scenes. But I hope everyone enjoys this just as much as I enjoyed writing it <3

Never Letting Go

Characters: Sam Winchester, Y/N Y/L/N, John Winchester, Dean Winchester, Mary Winchester, Y/N’s parents

Pairing: AU Sam x Reader

Warnings: Character death, mention of alcohol abuse, John being a bad parent, Dean being an awesome brother, mention of domestic abuse, mention of rape, mention of character death - None of it graphic!

Word Count: 1200ish

A/N: So this turned out way different than I planned. Sorry I didn’t include Destiel after all Beka. I promise I will make a drabble out of that moment we talked about at some point.

This is written for @impala-dreamer One Prompt for All Sam Challenge. The prompt was “I promise I won’t let go”

Also I aimed for fluff which I clearly missed by a mile. Apparently I can’t write Sam without some degree of angst! Sorry!

Thanks to the always amazing @blacktithe7 for betaing this.

***My fics are not to be saved nor posted on any other sites without my express written permission.***

Sam Winchester was like a lost kid when he met Y/N. He felt guilty for all the things his brother had sacrificed for his happiness, so much so that he was starting to doubt Stanford Law was really what he wanted. You see, Sam Winchester didn’t come from an ordinary family. He came from a family with a father that blamed him for the death of his mother while he took everything he felt Sam did wrong out on his older brother Dean.

When Sam was 6 months old, his mother had taken the eyes off the road for one brief moment to look back at her crying baby. Just long enough for the car to sway into oncoming traffic before a honking horn made her overcorrect, steering right into a huge oak just a few miles from their home. Sam didn’t remember any of this of course, but his four year old brother did. Before telling the cops, Dean did something no kid should ever have to do. He unfastened his brother’s seat belt and carried him from the wreck before the vehicle caught fire. He saved his brother’s life, but Dean never saw it like that. He remember the smell of burning flesh and his mother’s screams. More than that, he remembered the dead look in his father’s eyes; the hate he looked at his baby brother with, when Dean told the police what had happened.

Lazy (Jack x Reader)

Character: Sean McLoughlin (Jacksepticeye)

Fandom: Jacksepticeye/Youtubers

Title: Lazy

A/N: Ever since I finished watching Jack’s gameplay of The Last Guardian, I’ve been really wanting to write a fluffy imagine of him. Which also explains that the game appears in here because all of it is giving me the feels. Enjoy! <3

Summary: Y/N is feeling extremely lazy, but when her boyfriend Jack calls her from downstairs and asks her to hang out the evening changes.

“Y/N!” Jack called me from downstairs.

I rolled over in the bed and yawned before answering. I was feeling way too lazy, which I blamed on the almost nap I took. I would have fallen asleep gladly, but I just couldn’t and so I ended up just lying down and feeling the laziest.

He knew I was awake because he checked on me from time to time, and I complained to him that I couldn’t fall asleep.

“What?” I shouted back at him.

“Wanna come down and hang out?” Sean asked me, to which I groaned to myself.

Of course I wanted to hang out with him, it was the best thing to do! But go down? Actually stand up and walk? Ugh.

I’d go on a spiel about why I did this or who am I, but I don’t want to take too much of your time. Steven Universe is a charming, popular show with a quad-polar fandom, and I’m only here to point out what I say is legitimately wrong with the cartoon. Simple enough? Fair enough. Point number 1:

Okay, my first point really doesn’t just apply with cartoons, but fights in general. Question: what’s the one thing that people get the most out of seeing a fight? The impacts. Those moments where the opponent is given such a crushing ass blow, that you can feel the effort that went into that attack. Yeah, Steven Universe lacks this. I mean, it can look like the characters are putting effort into fighting their opponents and it can look like they’re getting hurt pretty bad (thanks to applied visuals and sound effects), but it never feels like the characters are actually hitting each other. There are instances of impact, but they’re menial and they’re scattered between the duelists smacking each other like helium filled action figures; feeling as tender as any other motion the characters do throughout. Now if you’re wondering what I mean by impacts, note these prime examples; because animes know their action.

My Hero Academia (2016)

If present, violence can/should provide a contrast to the supposedly grounded world in any series, and the impacts of violence should be escalating with every punch or kick. Attacks should fly with fierce swiftness, the weight/force of any blow can be seen; raw power, speed, and stamina should be pushed to limits unknown. Now, I’m not saying Steven U has to imitate any incredible, well animated fight scene that anime has flawlessly provided by now, but more effort should have been made to escalate the impact of their fights, not keep it steady lined with

*Smear work to make the boring motions look fast paced

*Spiky white marks to show a clash

*quick visual instances of impact that lets you know a character is getting hurt

*and tons of smoke to cover the possibly graphic imagery

Steven Universe has the fundamentals of action down, but they don’t go beyond that (plus ultra). Their fights can look technically similar with the characters being the only real source of variation, especially when you can figure out their attacks ahead of time. So I hate to say this, but if you’ve seen one fight, you’ve seen ‘em all.

Another reason I presented Steven U’s lacking action is because tts not just about fists flying or weapons clashing, but the balance of emotion that goes with the foes putting their heart and soul into taking each other down. But, for most of the time, I don’t see SU’s fights present any real hook of seriousness, even if it wants me to, and most of them feel present for (basic) comedy. I feel less invested in who’s fighting, or why, than I am at how they’re getting beat up. Ironic, being a show that’s all about being open with its “serious” emotions. Combined with its lackluster animation, and they don’t add much contrast towards an otherwise easy going series. Ex., take this highlight:

This here is honestly the most funniest a fight scene of theirs can get (mostly ‘cuz Peri deserved that), but after seeing the pretty slow animation, it can lose its luster no matter how deserving it may seem. Now notice this whopping scene, from the anime One Punch Man, below.

You can know nothing about One Punch Man, who these characters really are, but you can tell from these 5 seconds alone that when a fight happens, there’s a fast, over the top sense of comedy that comes with the brutal nature of a man that can apparently KO anybody in one swing, ironic and even more comedic with said one hit wonder being the most emotionless looking character on the show.

Seriously, that’s his face for almost the whole series

Now I know what you’re thinking, “But Monkey Network, it’s mostly a slice of life cartoon. The action scenes aren’t that prominent in the series as you might think and hope.” And I’d say fair point except for the fact that Friendship is Magic is also a slice of life cartoon that only has a few real action scenes under its belt, and this particular one is the best fucking thing I’ll ever see.

AGAIN, you can know nothing about the series as a whole, or this episode in general, but this fight alone perfectly captures the game Steven Universe has never really utilized since its early days. It has some seriousness with its escalating over the top attacks, the pace never feels constant, and even though they’re evenly matched, the things they do look fucking cool. The only downside is that since the show has puppet flash animation, it does looks limited, but even then they made the most of it. Steven Universe is hand drawn, so with all due respect, they have no fucking excuse. Their fight scenes amount to stay the course animation with glimpses of impact and a flashy style to avoid it from being pod racing levels of BORING. I’ve seen fan animations that would give this show a run for its money.

The Fandom provides more than the actual show

Even before Garnet’s fight with Jasper, Steven Universe’s action sequences was a sweet chunk of what made the show investing to watch, and looking at back at it, I was a bit too invested in something that wasn’t that invested in itself. Again, I know it can’t stack up to the God tier works that the anime world’s made for itself, but compared to other action present cartoons (Voltron, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, Avatar, The Powerpuff GirlsMLP, OK KO, any shonen anime), I think maybe they could/should git a little gooder in providing actual fights, not sparring matches. That, and if Sugar Honey Ice Tea and her crewniverse can put such effort into the facial expressions, they can make the fights more expressive too. Just saying. Computer, a nice way to end this, please.

Comics and graphic novels aren't really considered "literature" so they aren't studied in schools (at least none that I've seen, though some colleges have started being more open with works studied in Literature programs). But I think some of them have a lot to offer and discuss, about right and wrong, and the people's responsibility to the government and vice versa, etc. If there was a class about graphic novels/comics, are there any you would like to see studied?

I’ve been sitting on this question (which I love btw, excellent question!!!) for awhile debating over the best examples to give you. Generally most of the comics I’ve read are either Captain America comics, Avengers comics or events. I’ve recently added more individual titles to my repertoire and have about six different runs currently on my pull-list, but the sheer bulk of my reading has been Cap. So given that this list is going to be heavily Captain America centric, that said if any of my followers want to add to this post with suggestions for comics they have read, please do so! I’d love to read the responses as much as @unofficialfilmcritic!

Hands down my first answer would be Captain America’s speech to Peter Parker in Amazing Spider-Man #537 by J. Michael Straczynski . This comic was perhaps the single comic that made me go from ‘Steve Rogers is a great character, he’s awesome’ to ‘I pledge my undying love and devotion to this character for the rest of my days’ in a flat minute.

This speech still gives me chills. This was the moment, the single moment, when I knew I had previously misjudged comics, in a past life and that they could be so deep, so profound and amazing as any novel I had ever read.

Next would be Mark Gruenwald’s Captain America #332. See the Reagan Administration (well, Red Skull, long story) wanted Steve under their thumb. So they pulled out the receipts, claiming that the name Captain America, the uniform and the shield were all property of the US Government and Steve had to either work for them or cease and desist in all use of their brand (they also threatened him with jail time for not re-enlisting in the Army when he got off the ice). Knowing Steve and his great love of freewill, you can imagine how well this went over. ;)

After that is Roger Stern’s Captain America #250. The public wants Steve to run for president (they announced he was running without telling him this and his reaction was hilarious btw) and while his Ultimates counterpart was okay with that idea, our 616!Steve Rogers had other ideas entirely…

Next is Mark Waid’s Captain America vol. 3, #18. Steve went to the future, where the Earth was ruled by the dictator Korvac. And Steve was having none of that fascist, tyrannical bs, not on his watch, so he inspired a revolution. Vive la resistance!…

Last (I mean I can do more but this post is already getting way long) is again Mark Waid (there is a reason I consider him one of the best). It’s not as grand scale as the other speeches but it comes from Man Out of Time #3. Steve is just a day or two off of the ice, he’s lost, lonely, scared and experiencing a serious case of culture shock, so in order to help him adjust, an eager Tony Stark takes him on a tour of the 21st century and after a few museums and a private Radiohead concert, Steve had this to say about the future…

Your phones and your computers and so forth… they’re definitely mad-scientist gizmos, but they’re not the real achievement… It’s the society itself. The freedom of the people. All people, regardless of their race or their gender. That’s what I can’t get enough of.

God I love Steve Rogers. That passage will never not make me tear up. Anyway, these comics are my favorites and the ones I feel represent the absolute best of what a comic can be, how they can tackle issues, how it makes you, the reader, feel reading it, and how it offers hope in humanity.

I hope I answered your question in the way it was intended @unofficialfilmcritic and again I want to encourage anyone who sees this post to add their own experience with poignant comic panels to it, the ones that touched and awed you because they were just so on-point. I’m interested to see what others have to say.

When Harry needs Louis with him in LA, a publicity stunt gone wrong changes their friendship forever. A fake-relationship AU between two lifelong best friends.

Outwit, Outplay, Outlast : A Survivor All-Stars AU in which Harry and Louis are just in this game to win the million dollars, but they end up with something better.

Pull Me Under : AU. As the first British footballer to come out at the prime of his career, it helps that Louis Tomlinson is in a long-term, committed relationship. Even if that relationship is fake. (Featuring Niall as Louis’ favourite teammate, Liam as Louis’ agent, and Zayn as Liam’s boyfriend, who just happens to be good friends with one Harry Styles.)

Been Together Since Way Back When : Louis Tomlinson is a law student with a simple but effective four step plan: 1. Finish law school. 2. Get hired somewhere awesome. 3. Marry his best friend and boyfriend of two years, Harry. 4. Live happily ever after. Harry Styles doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life, where he wants to go, who he wants to be, or if he even wants the college degree he’s almost completed.  All he does know is who he’ll be with forever, as long as Louis wants to keep him around. Or: the painfully realistic college au where everyone’s poor, lovesick, tired of school, terrified of the future, and still having the greatest times of their lives.

Never Be : The one where Harry Styles moves to Connecticut from England for nine months as a part of a study abroad program, and he just so happens to move in with Louis Tomlinson and family.

The Night Sky is Changing Overhead : Harry is a tattoo artist, Louis is a drama professor, and they meet during an argument at a café.

These Inconvenient Fireworks : Future AU in which nobody tries out for X Factor but the boys end up finding one other eventually anyway. Louis is a jaded bastard who owns a cat named Duchess and teaches drama to teenagers, Harry is an idealistic aspiring photographer/part-time footy coach, Zayn teaches English lit and wears leather jackets, Liam saves people from burning buildings, and Niall is Niall.

Loving You Is Free : Louis is a workaholic record label CEO who hasn’t been on a date in nearly a year. Niall and Liam make an account for him on a sugar dating website as a joke. And then Louis meets Harry.

Hiding Place : Louis never wanted a soulmate, didn’t really care for the whole Bonding thing at all, really. Enter Harry Styles, who’s wanted to be Bonded for as long as he could remember. With one fateful meeting in an X Factor bathroom, Louis gets a dagger on his arm and the realization that just because Harry is his soulmate doesn’t mean it’s mutual. From the X Factor house to Madison Square Garden, from the Fountain Studios stage to stadiums across the world, Louis has to learn to love without losing himself completely, because someday his best friend will Bond to someone and replace Louis as the center of his universe. Meanwhile, Harry begins to think that maybe fate doesn’t actually know what it’s doing after all, because his other half has clearly been right in front of him the whole time. All he has to do now is convince Louis to give them a chance. Or, the canon compliant Harry and Louis love story from the very beginning, where the only difference is that the love between them is literally written on their skin, and there’s only so much they can hide.

You Are The Blood : A seventh-year Hogwarts AU in which Niall gets all the girls, Liam goes on a journey of self-discovery, Zayn falls in love, Harry wants something more, and Louis tries to figure out once and for all why he, a Muggleborn, was sorted into Slytherin.

Give Me Truths : Louis is a psychology student with a tattoo count as high as his genius IQ. Harry is in a (sort-of) relationship with a homophobic man and hates himself a little more every day. Things fall apart and Louis puts him back together.Or, the one in which Louis falls in love with a fragile boy and tells him every beautiful truth in the world, as long as it makes him happy.

Red Brick Heart : Harry has only had his room for thirty-two minutes when it stops being his.

Hi! My birthday is April 24th and I'd love to read everlark where Peeta thinks he's lost Katniss somehow, like a misunderstanding or even some kind of accident, but everything works out in the end. Love the drama/angst, and I'm down for any rating (but let's be real, the smuttier the better bc it's my birthday lol). No infidelity please! Tytyty! You are awesome!

And thank you to @katnissdoesnotfollowback for writing and submitting it. She’s been a MAJOR contributor to this blog, as have many others, and we can’t thank her enough. Links to part one & part two if you haven’t read them yet. Enjoy! I know we did.

Happy Birthday! Hope you enjoy this somewhat angsty story. Hugs and lots of love to you on your special day!

All’s Fair - Part 3

WARNINGS: RATED E for language, PTSD, and smut. Mostly the rating is for the smut. SMUT I SAY!

A/N: HR in this instance stands for Human Remains. There’s no gore or graphic violence in this, but there is a healthy dose of angst. Thank you @peetabreadgirl for pre-reading.

My boots scrape the pavement as I stop to stare up and down the parking lot aisles. I find at least four Jeep-shaped vehicles under black covers and sigh, drop my bag on the pavement, and search through the pockets for my keys. Not even my car keys, either. Customs fucked up my packing job and I’m pretty sure they wound up back in my footlocker. I find the keys I need underneath a half empty bottle of Gatorade and unlock my trunk, rummaging around until my fingers find the canvas ribbon on my at home keychain. Yanking them out, I listen to the jingle of home with the distant growl of a C-130 spooling up its engines. The humid North Carolina air presses down on my lungs and I blink in the fading light.

It’s late. I’m exhausted and hungry. And the red REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT tag on my keys is a one-two punch to the face. I don’t even know where he is right now. He was supposed to be home sometime last week, although I don’t know the exact date, but the fact that he wasn’t here to meet me means he was delayed somewhere. Or something far worse that I am not prepared to contemplate on four hours of shitty sleep on a cramped rotator flight and an empty stomach.

Pocketing my car keys, I slam my footlocker shut and lock it back up, hefting my bag back on my shoulder and hauling the trunk onto its wheels to continue my solitary trek. I hit the lock button on the key fob twice and hope my battery didn’t die while I’ve been gone. I’ve got jumpers, but no one I feel comfortable inconveniencing. Most of the others have already gone home. Prim couldn’t be here this time, unable to get away from med school. Mom’s too sick to travel. Gale’s still somewhere in Fallujah, I think. At least, that’s the last place I ran into him.

Tony Stark, basically a brother to you, seeing as you grew up in his care. He would never let you call him dad.

You loved him with all your heart, you really did, but he was constantly being overprotective, so when at school, you could do whatever you wanted without him knowing. Within reason of course.

Being Tony Stark’s sister, at the beginning of the year everyone was clamoring to get to know you and all of them were asking you one thing.

“Can I meet Tony Stark?” One of the most popular girls in school, Liz, asks. You roll you eyes and continue focusing on putting things away in your locker. Place the books, then the paper stuff, and lastly a jacket. “I mean I want to meet Pepper as well because I want to go into PR and she’s basically PR for Tony and-”

You slam your locker shut but still don’t say anything. Walking away quickly she struggled to catch up with you, going into a light jog instead of a fast walk. “I just wanted to know if you could possibly introduce me to him this weekend and I’ll say hi to you in the halls! Popular by association?” She phrased it more like a question and you stop in your tracks, feeling her bump into you, but you remain unmoved.

Listen to Me {Wonho Drabble}

Hi! I absolutely LOVE your blog! Your writing is amazing and I get super excited every time you post something! Do you think you could do #14 (I think you forgot who wears the pants in this relationship) for Wonho, and could it possibly be smut where Wonho is top/dom? If you can’t make it into smut or a smut with that particular plot that’s fine, I just thought I’d ask! I’d be super happy if you ended up doing this! You’re awesome!

Note: You’re actually a sweetheart, thank you so much! I hope you enjoy this request and I’m sorry it’s taken me a long time to get around to doing. I’m not the best at writing smut - so my apologies if this isn’t great. Thank you for supporting me, it means so much, and your inbox made me smile a lot! Fighting~! Mami x

Wonho had been in an aggravated mood all day. Why? You weren’t certain. He kept grunting in response to your questions, and huffing dismissively when things weren’t moving at the click of his fingertips.

Management had been pushing him to the limit recently, and it wasn’t helping that his sleep routines were being wrecked by filming various music videos and magazine photo shoots. He was busy, rushing around here, there and everywhere like the flash trying to cram each and every aspect of his chaotic schedule into his life.

He slumped in the sofa of the living room, giving you a half hearted sideways glance as you walked in. at first, it seemed careless and dismissive, but his next words contradicted his actions.

“Babygirl, come and sit in my lap.”

You frowned, somewhat shocked by his sudden craving for your attention, though you abided nonetheless. You sunk into his lap, thighs straddling his legs as his arms caged you into his embrace. He didn’t say any more, only pulled you in for a kiss, his lips lazing against yours before he pulled away.

“Will you get me some dinner?”

“No, I cooked lunch. Dinner is your turn, Jagi.” You told him, smiling. That’s how it worked with the two of you, always fair and always alternating the work load. Only this time, Wonho didn’t seem quite to eager to do anything but scowl from underneath you.

“Are you saying ‘no’ to me right now?” He grumbled, eyes turning dark with lust, electrifying your insides with desire.

“Yes, I’m saying no.” You responded definitely, as if you were longing for him, or falling into the depths of his dark, flaming eyes.

“I think you forgot who wears the pants in this relationship.” He responded suggestively, then without a moment for you to adjust, he pinned you down on the sofa, climbing above you while you gasped sharply from a mixture of shock and arousal.

“Maybe you need to remind me.” You smirked at him, but it didn’t stay on your face long, not when he leaned down, pushing his impatient lips against your own, kissing you with maddening longing and yearning.

You didn’t know if it was the stress from the work he needed to relieve, or the agitation he was feeling for being over worked that he needed to flush from his system, but he worked on you like a predatory animal. His hands running over you in a forceful and extreme fashion, grunting every time you moaned beneath him.

He was hard, you could feel it even under the jeans he wore as his crotch pressed against yours keenly, rocking his hips backwards and forwards above you, creating a friction that caused you to wheeze in need.

He spoke no words, only ripped your clothes from your flushed, steaming body before doing the same to himself. He was in full dominance mode, and it was like nothing could stop him. His stormy eyes kept you right under his impassioned place, and his hands wandered statically over your body, earning himself sounds that only fueled him on. Your underwear had started to feel like they were flooding, until Wonho had finally torn them away, replacing the area with his hand, were he started to rub in the place you desired.

You reached out, placing your own hand around his manhood, stroking him up and down, as his throat started to whine.

“I want you.” He breathed, clearly short of breath as he reached out to cabinet next to the sofa. His hand scraped the draw open until he pulled out a small, silver packet, that he ripped open with his teeth before pulling out the product and rolling it onto his manhood.

He then came back down, moving the tip against the opening of your folds, his hands maneuvering around your body as if he was on a mission, he groped at your chest until he finally pushed himself inside of you.

You felt like you were living in ecstasy as he grinded inside of you. It was times like these when you really did appreciate how good Wonho could make you feel, not just physically but emotionally too.  His hands manipulated your skin, sending shivers with each stroke of the finger and pinch of the lips.

It didn’t take him long to wind you to your close, to get you fidgeting beneath him in a moaning mess.

“You better listen to me Jagi, or maybe I just won’t let you finish.” He growled seductively next to you. But in your bliss state, you could barely acknowledge what he was saying.

“That’s what I like to hear.” He muttered in a deep tone beside your ear between sharp, strong thrusts.

When you finally came to a close, he rode out your high, releasing at the same time, low moans erupting as he did.

You breathed heavily as he pulled out, looking at him with eyes that were still longing and craving.

“How about we forget about dinner and go for a round two?” You asked him, desperate for him to agree.

“Sure, if I can have a taste of you, that is.” He winked, his grumpiness subsiding as he pulled you up into his arms to carry you to the bedroom.

“Deal” You giggled, pressing lighthearted kisses against his neck as he pulled you to your second round of pleasure.

idk I’m just posting this cause I wanted a comprehensive list of my klance fics on my blog, and also because I felt like shamelessly (that’s a lie, I’m very ashamed lmao) getting them out there - into the beautiful klance filled world. I will hopefully remember to update this when I post more, because I will undoubtedly be posting more.

note: thank you for all of the kudos, comments, subscriptions and bookmarks I have gotten on my fics so far - I’m honestly so thankful, you are all so kind and I’m having such a lovely time writing for this ship :)

1. on the edge

Lance and Keith still have a lot things left unsaid between them, which kind of sucks since they sort of might be dying.

Keith and Lance get ambushed on an alien planet, and this is what happens before, after and during the event – complete with a series of look-back moments on their ever-changing relationship.

words: 7000+ (canon universe, btw nobody actually dies lol - I’m too much of a crybaby to actually write that)

2. see you again

Keith and Pidge break into the galaxy garrison, and have a run in with a certain snarky-assed cadet that Keith can’t remember the name of… Oops

‘“My mum and I are parked outside,” Pidge answers, sounding ominously giddy. “So get on out here fast. And make sure to bring your hoverbike, tonight you and I are breaking into the galaxy garrison.”
Keith doesn’t even hesitate.
“Okay,” he says, then hangs up the phone, grabs his jacket, and races for the door.’

words: 9000+ (canon universe, garrison au)

3. accidentally in love

Keith gets covered in amortentia, and Lance smells him - accidental declarations are made.

words: 2000+ (alternate universe - hogwarts, btw lance doesn’t fall under a love spell, i just realised the title might be misleading lol)

Skinny Love- Josh Dun

Request: Hi can you do a Josh imagine where the reader works for the band like merch or blogger or something and they have feelings for each other, but neither wants to admit it to the other because “professionalism”. IDK how it ends but I trust you! :D

Word Count: 1,681

Boxes upon boxes of t-shirts and other twenty one pilots merchandise surrounded you. As the bands newest merch manager, you were currently doing some inventory. “Only 36 hoodies left? Dang. We’re almost out. Are we getting a new shipment before the next show?” You marked more numbers down on your log sheet and moved on to another style of t-shirt.

You had just started working for the band 4 months ago at the start of the Emotional Roadshow world tour. Although you were a talented saleswoman and a seasoned pro at hurriedly crunching price calculations in your head, getting the job as a merchandise manager was more about who you know than what you got your degree in. About a year ago, you met Jenna Joseph through a mutual friend. Somewhere along the line she caught word that you were looking for a job and had some experience in the ways of graphic design and marketing. Before you knew it, her husbands band had an opening for a merchandise manager and you were packing your bags for tour. Because you had experience in both marketing and graphic design, you were able to help brainstorm new merch designs and oversee the sales end of things at the same time. Tour life was exhausting, but it was definitely more exciting than some corporate marketing job in a dull cubicle.

One of the stagehands brought you a new box. “We got samples of the new long sleeve shirts in today. You can check them out whenever.” Ooh yes! You had been waiting for your test samples of these shirts to come in for the last week. Without hesitation, you took the scissors and tore open the cardboard —revealing a new design that you had helped create.

“These look great! I need to call and order a full stock of these A.S.A.P.”       Tyler and Josh’s footsteps creeped up behind you, and they peered over your shoulder at the new shirts. “Hey those are sick!” Tyler called out and took a sip of his… coffee? No. Red Bull. Darn this guy keeps drinking that stuff out of cardboard coffee cups. You turned around and placed a hand on Tyler’s shoulder. “I love you guys dearly, but please none of your energy drinks near my merchandise. If you spill that on the hoodies, I’m in danger. We are almost sold out and no one wants a soggy hoodie tonight.” Josh slapped him on the back and laughed. “Alright man. You heard her. Back off the sick merch.”

When you first started working on tour you thought Tyler and Josh might be stereotypical rockstars who weren’t always willing to socialize with people in the crew, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. They acted like normal guys around you. Although you technically worked for them, and you are very dedicated to your job, you might even call them friends.

Josh’s eyes met yours for a few seconds before you instinctively looked away. “So umm… the new shirts. Did you help design these?” His hand brushed yours as he reached out to feel the fabric, and it gave you chills. Most of the time you tried to act as professional as possible around everyone else on tour, but you had a little weak spot for Josh. “Yeah. I uh- brainstormed the general idea to have those lyrics on a shirt and the red line through it all eventually came around once we started designing a sample on the computer. They’re cool huh?” He picked up the sample and further inspected it. “Yeah I really like these. Thanks a lot for all you’ve been doing. I really appreciate it,” he smiled. Josh had the kind of smile that forced you to take an extra breath. It was one of those moments where you had to remind yourself:

You work for this guy. Be professional. He’s just thanking you for doing your job. It’s your job. Crushing on the drummer of the band is not a required task in your job.

The sound of Josh’s voice pulled you out of your little trance and reminded you that he was indeed still talking to you. “… so yeah I’m gonna go soundcheck the drums now but I kind of wanted to ask you something first.”

Ask me something? Oh goodness. This is where he tells me that he catches me stealing glances at him and he needs to ask to keep the relationship strictly professional. Strictly professional. Got it. No problem. Thanks for your time Josh. I really appreciate the feedback. I -

“I know you are working the merch table normally but I was wondering if you wanted to watch the show tonight. You’ve never seen the full thing from start to finish. Why don’t you watch from the side of the stage?”

And that went way better than I thought.

“Are you kidding? Yeah that sounds awesome! I’ve always wanted to watch the full show… Do you think they’ll manage out here without me though?” you asked, gesturing to the heaps of merchandise you were counting on selling tonight. Josh smiled again.

Damnit there he goes again with the bright eyes and grin.

“I’m sure they’ll be fine. You’ve been working so much lately. Tonight will be fun to just relax.”

I headed over to my side of the stage for soundcheck and Tyler was already there strumming away at the ukelele. He smirked in my direction as soon as I stepped on stage. “So how’d it go Joshua Dun? Did your smooth words and dashing looks win her over?” I sat down at my kit and rolled my eyes at Tyler. “I didn’t ask her that… if that’s what you are implying.” Tyler threw his hands up in defeat. “Josh! You tapped out? What a weenie. You promised!” It was true. I promised Tyler yesterday that I would go out on a limb and ask Y/N on a date. It’s hard to go out on a full fledged date when you’re touring the world, but the plan was to ask her to come watch the show; if she agreed, I’d ask her if she wanted to get dessert afterwards. It was small but worth a shot… until I got nervous and didn’t ask that last part. “Yeah I know. She’s coming to watch the show. She said yes, but when I asked, she seemed apprehensive about leaving her job tonight for other people to take over. I don’t know. She just seems really serious about her job here and when she was describing the design for those shirts … I don’t know I could just tell she’s really dedicated to what she does right now and I don’t want to make that awkward. So, I just decided not to ask about the whole potential ice-cream date part.” Tyler sighed as he sat down at his piano; his hands started playing a familiar melody. “Is that.. Skinny Love?” I questioned. He nodded. “Bon Iver. Yep. And in case you can’t tell, I’m most definitely sending you a message here. You two both like each other and are too scared to admit it. That’s a textbook definition of skinny love, Josh.” Tyler was right once again. Y/N and I had managed to bond over the past four months and it was obvious that we care about each other. It’s the little things: like the way she goes out for coffee and always brings me something back,

darn. I probably owe her 100 dollars in coffee

or the times when she’s missing home so I lend her a listening ear. There was just a part of me that was too scared to mess up the dynamic we had going. Not only for us, but I’m sure other people would be skeptical of me dating a girl that works for my band. Tyler finished his impromptu cover session and stood up from the piano bench. “I can’t make you admit your feelings, but you guys have to figure out this romantic tension that’s in the air. It’s frustrating me.”

You had just gotten off a call with the company that manufactures your merch when you bumped into Josh again. Literally. You were looking down at your phone to end the call and Josh seemed rather zoned out, so you ended up knocking shoulders a little more forcefully than you would’ve liked. “Oh sorry!” You called out. “I was just on a call and I wasn’t looking where I was going. But… um. I really need a kick of energy before the show tonight. I didn’t get much sleep last night, so I can barely stay awake. I’m headed out to grab a coffee, if you want anything? I’m sure I can get your usual order if -”

“No. No. I’m good.” He interjected. “About the show though, I forgot to mention something.” Josh bit his lip and had a rather serious expression on his face. It was as if you could see the gears turning in his head. “I don’t know if this is wrong, or coming out of the blue, or if you’ll even agree to it, but if you’re up to it, we could get dessert after the show… like just you and me this time, not the whole crew. I know it’s not much but it’s kind of all we have going for our schedules so…” You were shocked to say the least—smiling so hard that you probably looked like a love drunk idiot. “Just us? So you’re saying it’s a…”

Date. Date was the word you were looking for but too scared to say. You were silently willing Josh to finish your sentence.

“…a date. Yeah. If you want it to be.” Josh replied as he ran a hand through his yellow stained hair. His words made the heat rush to your cheeks. However, you were also extremely relieved to hear him confirm your feelings for each other. “Good.” You sighed. “Because I’ve been hoping you would ask and it’s been driving me crazy.”

Hiii! *waves excitedly* Could you please, please, please write a Malec story where some dissident warlock who hates the thought of the Downworlders fraternizing with the Shadowhunters attacks Alec in the loft while Magnus is out, to teach Magnus a lesson and "remove the temptation" that is Alec? I have to apologize because I was slightly asleep for some parts of this because of my meds, but hopefully it’s not too bad!
Awesome prompt btw, I loved it! And thank you :3
(I have a few “background” ideas on the fic that didn’t make it into the fic because then it would have been exposition city and I don’t really like it, but hey, if you want to know more feel free to ask!)
Alright, here it goes!

TW for torture (I wouldn’t say it’s graphic but it’s there)

Yellow eyes stare unblinkingly into the bowl of water, trembling images cutting the surface; scales-covered fingers move lightly across the water, dark and curved claws barely brushing the surface as the images change.

A sweet smile curls a lipless mouth, a hiss accompanying the words as the water stills: “You are going to bleed so prettily.”

Prompt:  “Am I hallucinating or did you really just smile?”

Pairing: Reader x Cisco Ramon

Word Count: 1800ish

A/N: Ok, so I haven’t written fanfiction in like, seven years and I’m not even joking o.o but Cisco Ramon is just the most precious thing and poor baby deserves some loving and appreciation. Also there’s not enough things on the internet written about this nerd and that’s basically a crime. So I saw this prompt thing on my dash, picked this line at random and decided to give it a try :)

You couldn’t believe what was happening to your home town.

Since that particle accelerator explosion your life has changed. It had to.

You weren’t directly affected like some people were. Nevertheless, you were affected. Now the people you loved were dead, killed by the impossible, and the people you have known ever since you were a child were under the constant threat of unthinkable things.

You managed to keep your adventures on the down low for about a year, making the consequences of your escapades of vengeance look like a sequence of fortunate accidents in the eyes of CCPD. But six months ago, when you finally got your hands on the group of metas who were responsible for the attack that killed your parents, things got out of hand and The Flash put you under his radar.

After two weeks or so of confrontation, you finally explained your reasons and your goals. There was some compromising on both sides, and then they made you an offer.

Even if reluctantly, you were a part of Team Flash now. But since you didn’t have any powers, specially none of that Barry’s superspeed healing thing, you had to wait until your broken foot was completely healed so you could be out on the field again.

So there you were. Stuck with desk work.

That bored you to death so when you weren’t completely silent, you were complaining.

Barry would sometimes remind you that you could stay home until you fully recovered but you couldn’t handle the feeling of being completely useless. You had to help. At least hanging at S.T.A.R. Labs gives you the chance to participate somehow.

So there you sat while Barry was out saving the day: Stuck with desk work. And stuck with Cisco.

That last bit, particularly, was the hardest part for you.

You never minded Caitlin, and Harry was just the perfect partner for any job… quiet and couldn’t give less of a damn: your kind of people. But Cisco… He was something else entirely.

You had never seen that much optimism and passion, and it threw you off. The only way you could describe him is that it was like he was this big nerdy puppy dog of a person with a need to be liked.

And you have always hated puppy dogs.

But that wasn’t what was making it hard for you. The unbearable part was that, for about a month and a half now, you started to notice that it - from his presence to his references and his jokes - didn’t bothered you that much anymore. That when you went about your day without it, it’d feel strange. You would miss it.

It was like you needed it now.

You didn’t know what the hell was happening to you. He used to annoy you so much but every now and then you’d get home after a mission thinking of how creative and incredibly clever his solutions to some of the situations you and Flash would get into actually were. His intelligence fascinated you and it wasn’t the first time you caught yourself staring in awe as he worked on some tech. Also, his borderline childish excitement about being a part of the team and helping people, that you used to find somewhat exaggerated, now would warm your heart in a way you’d forgotten was even possible after your family was taken from you.

There was also that time when he was kidnapped. You would still feel suffocated every time you remembered how scared you felt that day, when nobody could figure out where he was, and then the relief you felt when he finally came back… and the anger you felt when you found out that Barry had let Snart go.

There were feelings now that never were before.

But you didn’t understand it, so you couldn’t accept it.

You look up from your computer to see Cisco standing up before you. Now he’s waving one hand in front of your face.

“(Y/N)?! Hello!! Are you there?!”

You notice how deep in your thoughts you actually were.

“What do you want, Ramon?” You snap at him… you must keep up appearances, after all. Nothing had changed on the outside.

“Geez, calm down! I’m just heading to Big Belly Burger and wanted to know if you want me to bring something back for you… But now I don’t know if I feel like doing you any favors.” He was making that face he makes when he’s trying to start a playful conversation with you. You would always shut him off but he would never stop trying. It was visible to the whole team how hard he tried to make you like him, but that was just classic Cisco and his eternal need of being liked by everybody. Or so you chose to believe.

“I don’t need you to do me any favors.” You look back down to your computer screen pretending to completely ignore his presence, until he sighs and leaves the room. Not without you noticing the slightly disappointed look on his face.

It takes him what looks like forever to come back.

You were alone at the cortex. Caitlin has left to meet Jay for a lunch date, Barry left to work at the police station and Harry was God knows where, but then again, that was the best thing about Harry.

When Cisco arrives, you can’t avoid to look excited.

“Aw, missed me already?” He says, placing his bags on the desk as he notices by the look you were giving that you’ve been expecting him to come back.

“Well, it took you so long that I thought you were abducted by aliens or something…” You start to help him to take the food out of the paper bags, “ …but it looks like you just went home”.

He stops what he’s doing and stares at you, “And how the hell do you know that?”

“You changed your shirt.” You continue what you were doing, looking down, keeping your cool.

“And you noticed that?“ His eyes were wide open now, “I assumed my nerdy shirts looked all the same to you”

"Nope, I really like graphic tees" You realize you were letting yourself go. It felt nice but you just couldn’t… you had to get your act together, “er… yeah, so I’m constantly wondering when you’ll show up with one that has a joke that’s actually funny.” It wasn’t your best come back but it did the trick.

“Well, at least now we have an answer to the mystery of why is (Y/N) always staring at me… I mean, I swore to Barry it was because of my majestic hair but…” He smirks and sits down next to you.

“Say what now?” You were 99% sure he was setting up a joke but you couldn’t help but sound more concerned then you should have. Had he actually caught you?

“Chill out lady, I’m messing with you… unless…” he frowns at you and stares for a while. A smug grin growing on his lips “…you HAVE been watching me, haven’t you?”

“In your dreams, Ramon. In your dreams…” you look away, hoping he hadn’t notice how nervous that whole talk has actually made you feel. He doesn’t give up the bit.

“So you’ve been watching me while I sleep? Well, that’s even creepier!” He smirks playfully at you, “I mean, how do you even get into my house?”

“Ha ha, very funny. Why don’t you just shut up and hand me those fries?”

“I thought you didn’t want anything to eat.” He tells you, grabbing your hand to stop you as you try to reach for the small paper package.

“I changed my mind…” You pull back your hand. Your eyes still on his. “Now give it to me!”

“Ok fine…”, he finally hands you the fries,  "…Stalker"

You take it and turn back to your computer. Once you made sure he wasn’t looking you allow a shy smile to be formed in your face.

“Am I hallucinating or did you really just smile?” You are caught by surprise and don’t know how to respond for a second. How did he even see that when he seemed to be so busy with his lunch?

“What? No I- I was not, I wasn’t smiling” You try to keep up with your act.

“Oh my God, you were!” The largest of grins is on his face now, “…after months of hostility it finally happened: I interacted with you and you smiled!!”

“Well, don’t flatter yourself, Ramon… It’s just that fries really make me happy.” You smirk and turn away.

“Yeah, let’s pretend that’s what’s happening here and that you aren’t actually enjoying my company” He looks away from you, returning his attention to where it was before: his cheeseburger. You notice that his smile hasn’t died yet.

“Let it go, Ramon. You joked. I laughed. No big deal”

“No big deal? It’s the biggest of the deals!” He looks at you while you’re rolling your eyes, ’‘I mean, it is to me…” He goes back to his lunch.

“If me smiling is that big of a deal for you then your life must be even more boring than what I anticipated” You look down to your fries keeping a straight face, while internally cursing yourself for feeling this pathetically excited about what you had just heard him admit.

“Well, I know that you don’t care or whatever but I never hid the fact that I think you’re pretty awesome. I mean, even without any powers in a city full of metas you still suit up and kick ass and serve justice and all that… You were kinda like a rockstar to me! I would go online and read every bit of conspiracy theory about this possible secret vigilante cleaning the streets of Central City, and then Barry found you, and then you were a part of the team and I got to work with you everyday… dude!” And there it was! That passion and excitement growing by the moment on Cisco’s face until his eyes was just sparkling, “So, since I know you’re not one to really show any sign of affection for anybody I’m taking that smile as a validation of our friendship. It took us long enough but it’s official now: You are my friend… and you like it!“

Now he’s halfway into pulling you to a hug, “Come on (Y/N)!”

“Hell no!” You try to avoid his embrace, leaning back on your chair, “Don’t push your luck, Ramon”. He completely ignores you and holds you. Big smile, eyes closed and all. His tight embrace keeping you from moving your arms, although you could escape if you wanted to, you had taken down bigger guys before.

“Let me go, Cisco”

“Not ready yet”

“It’s been five seconds of this and it’s just awkward now”

“One more second” He lets out a loud sigh before finally letting you go.

“Gosh! You’re such a sentimental dork!” You say while trying to straighten your blouse up. Smiling, but this time not minding if he sees it.

My sincere and honest thoughts regarding The Evil Within 2:

So, I’m finally sitting down and writing out ALL my thoughts on TEW2… at first, I was kind of nervous. After all, I mean so many people are going to love it, right? Well, to put things into perspective, @detective-joseph-oda and I literally returned the game. I’ve never taken back a game in my life.

It’s been a difficult rollercoaster for me. TEW fandom is my everything… so, it’s not like I’m leaving, or going to stop being mama or shipping or cosplaying or anything like that. I love this community and I want to contribute and continue to support my kids. I also would never want people to not play a game, or not get enjoyment out of it by voicing my opinions. A lot of people have asked me what I thought … so here’s my honest write-up, as someone who picked up TEW1 on its release date back in 2014 and has been in the fandom ever since.

A Wonderful Adventure

I stopped using this account months ago because of a very specific personal reason which was completely unrelated to my love for Coldplay and Jonny. However, THE PAST FEW DAYS HAVE BEEN ABSOLUTELY INSANE AND I NEED SOMEWHERE TO VENT ABOUT IT!

I don’t really know where to begin or how to explain properly what happened recently. After years of saving, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to follow Coldplay for the last 5 dates of the European leg of the A Head Full of Dreams Tour in Cardiff and Paris. A few amazing things happened on the tour, so I thought I’d make a post explaining them.

By now, I’m sure you all know about the incident at Coldplay’s Dublin gig a couple of weeks ago where Jonny got hit in the head with a bottle while he was performing on the C-stage. It really upset me as someone who looks up to Jonny a lot, both physically (because he is part giraffe) and as a musician. There was a massive outpouring of love across social media towards him and it made me really happy because he’s such a sweet person and deserves love and respect, rather than things like that. But the idiot who did it is just that; an idiot. They pale in comparison to the hundreds of people who were showing love towards him.

The day after the concert, on Sunday 9th July, my friend Alycia (@coldplay-kid) was coming to my house as we were leaving for Cardiff the next day to see Coldplay. I was in my room blasting A Head Full of Dreams as I tidied it. I was also scrolling through Twitter and I noticed that Jonny tweeted a fan saying that he was okay after what happened in Dublin. I replied telling him that I couldn’t wait to see him nail his guitar solos in Cardiff:

I also tweeted about how British he is because he said thank you twice in his tweet before I went back to tidying my room. A few minutes later I picked up my phone because I noticed it was lighting up with loads of notifications. I went on twitter and loads of people were mentioning both me and Coldplay. Then I realised that Jonny had tweeted me!

I started completely freaking out and my mum came in asking what happened! I went around telling everybody in the house that Jonny had tweeted me. I really don’t know how he found the tweet because I didn’t reply to his tweet for 25 minutes and in the one he replied to I didn’t even tag the band’s account! I guess he was lurking on Twitter or stalking my account (!) It was incredible because Jonny tweets very rarely and tweets fans even more rarely. I always used to tweet Coldplay asking them to check whether Jonny had the correct password and working wifi because of how infrequently he tweeted! I feel really honoured to have been one of the few fans that he has ever tweeted. I never ever thought he would reply, especially because I didn’t tag the band in it and they don’t follow me! It was such a funny tweet and it makes me smile every time I read it. Still hasn’t sunk in, to be honest.

After the tweet, I thought my week couldn’t get any better…but then the concerts happened.

Cardiff Night One (1/5)

I was going to the first Cardiff show with Alycia and our three other friends, Amber, Hannah and Laura. We all decided to make signs for the band. I wanted to make one for Jonny and settled on one that said “Jonny Buckland Defence Squad”. After what happened in Dublin I thought he deserved a supportive sign. The plan on Tuesday was to run to C-stage and to hopefully get on the barrier and get them to notice our signs. After almost three hours of queueing in the pouring rain, we managed to get C-stage barrier! Here’s a picture of all of us with our signs before he concert started:

The first part of the concert was amazing, but we were waiting in anticipation of them coming to the C-stage. Finally, the lights went down and The Guesthouse and Amazing Grace played. We knew it was time.

The first song they played on the C-stage was In My Place and as Jonny was playing the opening riff, he started turning around. He saw my sign straight away! He nodded at me and started beaming and even bowed his head like he was a bit embarrassed, bless. It honestly made me SO happy because Cardiff was the next show after Dublin and the last time he was on the C-stage something was thrown on him, but now he had a positive sign just for him!

Here’s Jonny noticing the sign on the video I took:

Immediately after Jonny saw it, Guy saw it and smiled at me and then Chris came over to him and started looking at the crowd and he also saw the sign and laughed! I was in heaven. During the rest of the set, Jonny looked at me a few more times, still smiling, which was just amazing. They really are so close on the C-stage. I didn’t think it could get any better but boy, was I wrong. At the end of Us Against The World, Jonny took his guitar off and put it down on his stand. He walked straight over to me, beaming, and put his hand out towards me. I tried my best to reach over the barrier but then he mimed throwing something at me. I was shaking so much I couldn’t quite take in what was happening until it was over. He threw his pick at me and it landed just in front of me on a coat which had fallen off the barrier! He was trying his best to get it to me and absolutely beaming at me as he did it. It was such a special moment. He even waved goodbye to me as he left. I found pictures on Twitter of the moment a couple of days later:

(There’s also a video).

I put the torch on my phone on and refused to take my eyes off the pick until I had it in my hand. Infuriatingly, I was slightly too short to lean over the barrier fully and pick it up. Amber even offered to pick my ankles up so I could lean down and get it! Eventually, the stewards returned and I managed to get one of them to pass it to me (but not before she sent it flying as she thought I meant the coat…very stresssful). I finally came back to consciousness about halfway through Up&Up as I was in such a state of shock (and stressed over getting the pick)!

I still can’t process what happened and don’t know that I ever will. I wrote on the reverse of my sign “P.S. Can I have a pick please :)” and after Jonny had seen my sign I flipped it over. I intended to hold it up at the end for one of the Roadies to possibly notice, I never thought in a million years that Jonny Buckland would throw me his own pick on stage! I haven’t seen him do that to a fan recently. I feel so lucky and grateful for everything.

Here’s me at the end of the show, pick and sign in hand (I look like a deer in headlights):

We also all got given picks by one of Coldplay’s roadies, Hoppy, who told us to come to the A-stage at the end because he didn’t have any with him at the C-stage. It was such a sweet thing to do. He really went out of his way to make our night special.

Cardiff Night Two (2/5)

On the second night in Cardiff, Alycia and I both had VIP Early Entry meaning we would be near the stage. I thought we were on Guy’s side for some reason, but when we got to the stadium on the day we realised we were actually on Jonny’s! I was over the moon. We already agreed that we wanted to stand near the A-stage, so it now meant I would be close to him again. After a messy entry, we managed to get on the barrier a little bit along from Jonny. We were both ecstatic with our spot. I brought the sign with me to the stadium, but I wasn’t sure whether to hold it up or not. I felt a bit awkward doing it again, so I had it at my feet on my the barrier thinking I would use it during the concert if he didn’t notice me. It wasn’t needed at all! As soon as the band came onstage for A Head Full of Dreams, during the opening verse, Jonny saw me and smiled at me. I think he remembered me from the night before. I was so happy. I made so much eye contact with him throughout the concert and there really is nothing like having his infectious smile aimed directly at you! During the Paradise remix, I was jumping up and down like a woman possessed. It’s one of the highlights of the concert for me, it’s so fun live. Jonny saw how much I was dancing and smiled at me again! He also smiled at Alycia and I during Fix You when he started his guitar solo because we started cheering him and dancing to it. I caught another moment on camera during Adventure of A Lifetime. They have monkey graphics on the screen and as a joke, I pointed at the screen and screamed “HARAMBE!!!!”. I looked up towards the stage and Jonny was looking at me and laughing. I mouthed something like “oh my god” and face palmed in embarrassment and he kept smiling at me. I don’t know if he heard what I shouted but he was definitely looking at me and smiling so that was pretty awesome.

Here are a few screenshots of that moment:

At the end of the concert, Rob Brydon and a couple of others came out to sing the Welsh National Anthem. I noticed Jonny learnt it on guitar which I thought was really sweet. It was amazing to see him at his “home” show. Just before the bow, he came and stopped in front of us and applauded us. It was just incredible. I couldn’t get over the unbelievable couple of days I had. But I still had three more shows to go!

Paris Night One (3/5)

Luckily for Jonny’s mental health, I had seats for this show. I knew I was high up but I didn’t realise I was right on the back row! I had an amazing view of the Xylobands:

The Jonny Buckland Defence Squad was also still going strong at the back, as seen in this video I posted on Twitter.

I enjoyed a more chill gig and I think you need to see it from near the back to really appreciate all the special effects and effort that goes into each and every show.

Paris Night Two (4/5)

For this show I had normal standing. Feeling kind of insane and pretty exhausted, I headed back to the Stade de France at around 8am (after getting back to my hotel at 1am) and met up with my friend Ginnie. I spent the day queueing with Ginnie and her friends in thirty plus degree heat which was exhausting. Doors opened at 5pm and we managed to make it onto the second row, right in front of Jonny as our gate was on his side. I was pretty much directly behind where I had stood on the second night in Cardiff on the barrier. It was an amaaazing spot.

I managed to set the record for the quickest Jonny notice ever! As the introduction was still playing and he walked onstage, before he even picked up his guitar, he saw me and smiled at me. I was over the moon before the first song had even been played!

The concert was incredible. During ETIAW me and Ginnie stuck confetti to our foreheads because we were so sweaty. Jonny and Will saw and looked a bit confused but amused:

I didn’t film much of this show because I just wanted to enjoy it and it was beng filmed anyway.

Here are a couple of pictures of Jonny I took:

After the concert as I was walking out of the stadium, I saw a piece of paper on the floor and for some reason I decided to pick it up. It turned out to be a setlist! I looked around to see if anyone had just dropped it but it seemed that no one had. I couldn’t believe my luck!

(Yes, they were supposed to play Miracles….I want to fight them).

Paris Night Three (5/5)

After a wonderful day spent exploring Paris with some lovely Coldplayers on Monday, it was time for the last show. For the final show I had VIP Early Entry once again. I go to the stadium around 10am and queued with Ginnie and her friends in thirty four degree heat. I also met a really sweet fan, Mathilde, who was attending her first Coldplay show. I decided to join her and her brother on the B-stage. We got barrier right opposite the steps.

The heat was so intense, I probably would have fainted if I didn’t have the barrier to lean on and access to water from the stewards. I saw so many people that had to leave the crowd, some in tears. It was so sad.

After the longest five hours of my life waiting in the stadium in the suffocating heat, Coldplay finally came onstage.

When they came to the B-stage I held up a sign that said “PLEASE PLAY MIRACLES” but sadly they didn’t see it. Jonny noticed Mathilde’s sign which thanked them for coming to Paris and told them to come back soon and gave her a thumbs up!

I thought Jonny wasn’t going to see me but then near the end of Magic he saw me, grinned at me and we nodded along to the music together. I was over the moon once again for the umpteenth time that week.

Here’s some pictures of them on the B-stage:

I thought my night and the tour couldn’t get any better, but once again I was wrong.

During Charlie Brown, I noticed one of the roadies coming around the barrier with things in his hands after they were taking the instruments off the B-stage. I saw him hand something to a girl a bit further along the barrier from me and when I realised what it was, I freaked out. He saw and came and passed it to me!

I now had Will Champion’s drumstick which he just used on the B-stage right in front of me! I felt like the luckiest girl on earth! But the concert wasn’t even over! I had been drumming along with my stick all night to the songs (as I play drums) and during A Sky Full of Stars the camera guy saw me and filmed me for pretty much the whole song! I was on the screen so much! I was a sweaty, frizzy mess but I was so happy I didn’t care.

When the band walk to the C-stage, they had to walk down the steps in front of us. On their way there I was too in shock to do much but I did pat them all on the back. Jonny and Chris saw Mathilde’s sign, asking for a hug because it was her first show and both shook her hand! It was amazing to be so close to them and Jonny kind of leaned over to me to get to Mathilde (I was dying). Will also picked up a green AOAL balooon that was in his way and hit it into the crowd!

One of the highlights of all the concerts happened to me on the way back from the C-stage. I decided to stick my hand out for a high five. Guy and Will came past first, Guy just kinda ignored everyone but Will went past smiling at people on the barrier.

Then Jonny walked past. He saw me, grinned at me, came right over to me, took my hand and gave it a firm handshake. I filmed the moment, you can’t really see much but you can hear our hands clap together and me laughing hysterically before squealing like a pig. I’m 97% sure he recognised me throughout the tour, but this made me believe it even more! To me it felt like a thank you and goodbye. It was the perfect way to finish my last show of the tour.

I’m not sad everything is over because I’m so overjoyed this happened to me. I’ve spent a few hours typing all this up, with a grin on my face as I did so. I can’t believe my luck. I got two picks, a drumstick, a setlist and countless special moments with the band onstage. I’m so lucky to have had the chance to attend these shows. I can’t describe the feeling this band gives me. I admire them as musicians, human beings and everything they stand for.

Thank you to all the crew that work so hard every single day to make this amazing tour possible. The eight shows I attended last year and this have been some of the happiest days of my life.

And finally,  Guy, Will, Phil, Chris and Jonny: thank you for everything. I’ll see you soon.
