thank you show for devoting an entire scene to how awful it is

Six Times Voltage Inc Tugged at my Heartstrings

I’ve been playing Voltage games for about four years now, and I have to say, there were moments in certain routes that made me Feel Things™. Generally, Voltage games aren’t really known for being cynical or overly emotional. Heck, their games, while having some mature content, mostly have an optimistic feel to them. However, there were some moments in particular that stood out to me—those scenes were written powerfully enough to shake me to the core.

I have to admit, it was difficult for me to select a few moments from hundreds of routes, but I tried my best to narrow it down as much as I could.

  • I limited it to one character per game to avoid repetition.
  • I haven’t played every Voltage game (or route for that matter). The moments I’ve chosen only come from the games I’ve played.
  • I didn’t include SLBP because I only started getting into it recently (plus I don’t know too much about the other lords to make solid conclusions about them lmao).
  • This is all my personal opinion, so that means you probably won’t share the same views as I do, which is cool (I’d actually appreciate it if you told me what your favorite moments were :D).

Anyhow, let’s begin! (long post below):

The Big Sick (USA, 2017)

This week, a special bonus edition we’ve been looking forward to ever since approximately every single person we know told us the movie was being made. Thanks, guys! So glad we’re now everyone’s “romantic comedy friend.” Major spoilers to follow.

Predictions: We both already knew what this movie was about, but if we hadn’t, based on the title, we would probably have thought it featured a lot of vomit, and Kat would not have attended.

Plot: So, Kumail Nanjiani is…himself. He lives in Chicago, performing stand-up and driving for Uber. One night at the comedy club, he meets Zoe Kazan, an extremely charming white girl who’s studying to be a therapist. They start seeing each other, even though Zoe Kazan is all, “I’m not looking for anything serious right now,” because it’s clear that they just enjoy kissing each other so much. Enough that she’s willing to sleep on his heinous air mattress in his barely-furnished serial-killer apartment.

He’s so into her! But has he told his parents about her? He has not. Why? Because they are busy trying to set him up with every Pakistani gal in town. Based on all the wife résumés Kumail Nanjiani is keeping in his cigar box, there are apparently MANY beautiful eligible Pakistani women in the city of Chicago. He basically leads a double life, wherein he dates Zoe Kazan for half the week and then meets his family every weekend for dinner and a prospective Pakistani bride. Until one day, Zoe Kazan finds the box, realizes that Kumail Nanjiani’s been lying to her and they probably have no future together, and is heartbroken. They get into a huge fight and break up.

Very shortly after this, Kumail Nanjiani is bumming around, sad, when he gets a call from Zoe Kazan’s friend: “Yo, I know you’re like, busy and stuff, but Zoe Kazan’s in the hospital and we have exams, so like, if you could just hang out with her in the ER for a while… Kthxbye.” So awkward, right? Yes. Yes, it is. And it gets even more awkward when the doctors tell him that she has a terrible infection and they need him to pretend to be her husband and sign a form to put her in a medically-induced coma. Oh, and maybe call her parents, too?

Soon enough, Zoe Kazan’s parents (Holly Hunter and Ray Romano) arrive, and they are not psyched a) to see him or b) that their daughter is in a coma, obviously. Rough times ensue, including Holly Hunter getting in a brawl at the comedy club during Kumail Nanjiani’s stand-up set, Ray Romano confessing to Kumail Nanjiani that he cheated on Holly Hunter and knows she hasn’t yet forgiven him, and (unsurprising touching-movie surprise) lots of bonding in between continuous bad news from the doctors. Zoe Kazan is basically on the brink of death, but then, thanks to a frantic conversation Kumail Nanjiani happens to have with one of the nurses, they figure it all out, and she recovers. But not before Kumail Nanjiani, grief-stricken, tells his parents and the entire comedy community that he’s in love with a non-Pakistani girl, doesn’t want an arranged marriage, etc., and thus gets kicked out of his family. Oops.

But whatever, he still has Zoe Kazan! Everything is perfect, except for that family-estrangement bit. Zoe Kazan wakes up. They embrace. END OF MOVIE.

Even worse, Zoe Kazan does not want to be with him, even though he has been at her bedside this whole time, because, understandably, her last memory is of their breakup. Kumail Nanjiani, devastated but understanding, leaves. But later, comes to a welcome-home party for her and expresses his devotion, including that he really won’t be having an arranged marriage and would like to be with her instead. Aw! How amazing! She loves him, too! They can be together! END OF MOVIE. Unfortunately, Zoe Kazan still doesn’t want to be with him.

But later, as they are both slogging sadly through their separate lives, Zoe Kazan going to physical therapy and hanging out with her parents, and Kumail Nanjiani making plans to move to New York with his friends, Zoe Kazan has a change of heart. Among other things, she sees the YouTube video of him talking about her during a truly terrible comedy set. She goes to visit him at the theater where she knows he performs his hilariously dreadful one-man show, with the intention of telling him she wants to get back together. He is thrilled to see her and accepts! They get back together. END OF MOVIE. Alas, he mentions the move to New York before she can say this, so she winds up lamely pretending she came there to "thank” him for his efforts during her coma instead.

Sooooo awkward, but okay. Kumail Nanjiani has other things to focus on now! He informs his family that he refuses to be kicked out, and, while they’re still mad, there does seem to be hope for reconciliation. He moves to New York and some time passes. One night he’s performing stand-up at a club, and who happens to be there?! Why, it’s Zoe Kazan, looking as pretty and healthy as she did that very first night in Chicago at that very similar comedy club. They make charming callbacks to their first interaction. Hope springs anew. ACTUAL END OF MOVIE – FINALLY – GOD – IT WAS LIKE WE WERE AT RETURN OF THE KING ALL OVER AGAIN, ONLY WITH AN ARAGORN OF COLOR.

Best Scene: This movie was very funny and had a lot of good scenes. One of our many favorites was the very first dinner Kumail Nanjiani has with his family, wherein his parents suggest that Malala would be a more interesting performer than Kumail Nanjiani, and then Mom ushers in a prospective bride, all prepared to appeal to Kumail Nanjiani’s interests by making as many X-Files references as possible in the first 10 seconds of their acquaintance. Runners-up: all the early scenes between Zoe Kazan and Kumail Nanjiani. Terrifically charming.

Worst Scene: Every appearance of Kumail Nanjiani’s slightly annoying friend/roommate. In a movie where pretty much every scene was great, he really stood out as the one thing we did not need.

Best Line: There’s a conversation that Kumail Nanjiani has with Ray Romano and Holly Hunter about 9/11 that is SO FUNNY. Several lines in a row, all very funny. Runners-up include discussion of “good comas” vs. “bad comas,” and Kumail Nanjiani commenting that Malala’s stand-up set has “a lot of ethnic material, which [he thinks] is a crutch.”

Worst Line: Nothing in this movie really offended our ears. Maybe a moment or two during Kumail Nanjiani and Zoe Kazan’s various love confessions got a little cheesy, but, by and large, hard to come up with a worst line.

Highlights of the Watching Experience: Well, the biggest highlight is obviously that this is Kumail Nanjiani’s real-life love story!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, what a joy to be able to watch a romcom starring Kumail Nanjiani!!!!!! Enough said.

How Many POC in the Film: KUMAIL NANJIANI, OF COURSE. His parents. His brother. His many, many, many prospective brides and their families. Several people who worked at the hospital. The MC at the club. Kumail Nanjiani’s friends were all white (and famous), which is a little unfortunate but probably pretty true to life, if you’ve ever, you know, seen stand-up.

Alternate Scenes: Maybe an epilogue in which we got to see Kumail Nanjiani and Zoe Kazan back together down the line? Honestly, we wouldn’t change anything about this film. We just wish there were more of it. Those adorable pictures of RL Kumail Nanjiani and his RL Zoe Kazan that rolled during the credits? Loved those. More of those!!!!

Was the Poster Better or Worse than the Film: Worse. The poster is an uncomfortable family portrait that your mom photoshopped onto the Chicago skyline.

Score: 9.5 out of 10 good-coma smooches. While there were parts of this movie that were very emotionally stressful and felt like we were shading into indie-drama territory, it really managed to bring it back around at the end and be a romcom, plus, was funny throughout. Bonus points for the realistic, warm, and complicated portrayal of his struggle with his immigrant family.

Ranking: 3, out of the 84 movies we’ve seen so far. Excellent.

c-s hinata & leo support

this support was basically the result of looking at hinatas nohrian festival dlc conversations and the fact that hisame was supposed to be his little twin brother at first and going “he would want to be everyones big brother” and also looking at leos supports and saying “hes so smooth but theres gotta be someone who can sweep him off his feet and turn him into a tomato”

The McReedus Story - The Red Strokes Ch 1

**The brilliant author would like to remain anonymous FOR NOW!

**I am sure that some feedback will encourage her to reveal her humble secret identity

Once they were safely out of ear shot of their fans Mel giggled.
Norman shot her a look. “Did you see the dirty looks I was getting from all those women?”

She had arrived to the set on the back of his motorcycle. The location had been leaked and there was a huge crowd of fans gathered at the entrance.
She noticed the evil glares the second she slid off the bike and removed her helmet.
“Oh come on, there were lots of guys there who were wishing they were in my spot,” Norman shot back with a flirty smile.

When he smiled like that she understood why every girl back by the gate was weak in the knees. Her coworker was undeniably one of the sexiest men on the planet. He was also charismatic, charming and just incredibly nice.

Melissa considered herself lucky to call Norman a friend. He always knew how to make her laugh and his constant flirts, and touchy feely nature made her feel sexy even if it was essentially harmless and meant nothing.

“So I’ll see you in a few hours,” Norman said, giving her a peck on the temple.

Mel nodded and waved bye. They had both been called back to reshoot a couple short scenes. The filming likely wouldn’t take long but wardrobe and makeup certainly would. The transformation to dirty, sweaty zombie slayers took time.

The day passed quickly, as it always seemed to on set. Melissa loved her job and the people she worked with. But even with the short reshoots she was tired by the end of the day. Norman found her once he was done and they got ready to leave.

“Want to go for a drink?” he asked. Thankfully security had cleared up the fans or she would be waiting a long time to get Norman past the screaming women.

Mel sighed, “I could really use a cup of coffee, though I doubt that’s the kind of drink you had in mind.”

“Nope, but it’s fine. I know the perfect place.” He got on the bike and steadied it while she took her spot. They roared off into the night and she had no idea where they were headed.

Norman pulled into a parking garage, found his spot and then got off. “Your place?” Mel asked with a tight lipped smile after removing her helmet.

“Yep, I make a mean cup of java and I have a fully stocked bar. Oh, and a shower if you’re interested?” he waggled his eyebrows flirtatiously and Melissa rolled her eyes. Though she did plan on taking him up on the use of his shower. Even though she didn’t have a change of clothes it would be nice to rinse off the dirt, makeup, and sweat.

Turned out Norman’s condo actually had 2 showers and after leading her to the guest bath and finding her towels Norman left to use his shower in the en suite.
For all the times she had showered in hotel rooms across the country it still felt odd to shower at someone else’s house. When Mel stepped out and went to reach for a towel she noticed a clean t-shirt sitting on top.
Her eyes widened when she realized that Norman must have snuck in at some point while she was showing to deliver it. She blushed, wondering how she didn’t notice, and hoping the glass had been fully steamed before he made his appearance.

Melissa got dressed and wandered out to his living room. She had been there once before at a party Norman hosted over a year ago. It was a pretty wild night.
Most of the cast hadn’t seen each other for weeks as shooting had wrapped and they had a great night of drinks with crazy friends.

While Norman was busy in the kitchen getting drinks Melissa got out her phone and started to browse. He came back and handed her a steaming mug. She grinned and said thanks, taking a sip. “Hey, have you heard of McReedus?” Mel asked setting the mug down.

He shook his head and plunked down beside her. “Whatcha lookin’ at?”

“Tumblr,” she replied flashing the screen in his direction. “There’s a McReedus tag devoted to you and I.”

Norman looked a bit confused, “I thought we were called Caryl?”

“That’s the name for Carol and Daryl. McReedus is you and I. They think you and I are together.” Mel looked at him with a smile, “there are even stories about us fucking.”

“How do they know we’re fucking?” he asked.

“We’re not fucking,” Melissa laughed.

“Oh right,” he snorted and moved closer. “Well are any of them any good?”

She raised her eyebrows. “You want to read one?”

Norman shrugged “Why not? Our fans are pretty talented at most things. I bet writing is no exception.”

“Well, there is this one they keep talking about. Let me see if I can find the link…Ok got it,” she replied after scrolling a bit on her touch screen.

“Just highlight it and have Siri read to us,” Norman suggested. Mel turned up the volume a bit and set the phone on the coffee table to listen.

When the first chapter ended they looked at each other. “For the record, I have never masturbated, thinking about you, in the shower,” Norman said. “In bed, maybe, but never in the shower,” he joked. Melissa smacked him but laughed.

“I think I’m going to need something stronger than coffee for Chapter 2,” she sighed. “Got any good wine?”

Norman stood, “red or white?”

“Both,” she said, not entirely kidding.

He returned moments later with 2 bottles and 2 glasses. Norman poured her a glass of Red to start. He poured his own glass and resumed his position beside her, entirely too close for most people, though Mel was used to fact that Norman likes to get in your space, and she never minded.

“Ready?” she leaned forward and started Siri reading chapter 2.

“Holy fuck,” Norman muttered, several times. Melissa felt her own face burning as they listened.
At the same time it was fuelling something inside her and she wondered if the story was turning Norman on too. As creepy as it was to hear an explicit sex scene about themselves Melissa had to admit it was making her incredibly horny.

When it ended she took a long sip of wine before making eye contact. “For the record, I don’t have any piercings below my ears.” She laughed, “but I’m seriously considering getting some.”

Norman snorted. “I’m a fucking stallion. That was awesome.” He tipped back the last of his wine and poured them both more.
Melissa knew she should have declined, but the wine was a great distraction from the fire burning low in her belly.

“I’m kinda liking this McReedus thing. Are there any more?” Mel gave him a look, but he was pumped.
Norman grinned, “We should totally do some crazy pose and tweet it, then see how fast it’s all over tumblr.”

“I don’t know…”

Norman nudged her, “Oh come on, we do it all the time for the Carylers.”

“Okay,” Mel gave in. She always gave in so easy to his crazy schemes. “What have you got in mind?”

Norman smirked, “How about a McBride tongue shot? And I’ll Tweet it from my account? That should do the trick.”

So Melissa found herself hanging out her tongue, imitating one of Norman’s signature poses, while he snapped her photo. He tweeted it and within seconds there were favorites and retweets.

“Okay, check Tumblr now,” he said after a few minutes.

Mel opened the app on her phone and went to the McRedus tag.
“You have got to be kidding me,” she said in awe.

The photo had already been blogged by 4 different people and there were comments and reblogs on all of them.
Mel laughed and blushed as she read a few of them.

“MMB can lick me with that tongue any day.
Hmm, what are McReedus up to tonight?
Are they trying to kill us?”

They looked at each other again and laughed. They both adored their fans fiercely and weren’t laughing at them, just at the craziness of the world they were caught up in since joining the cast of The Walking Dead.

Mel hadn’t noticed that Norman had filled up her wine glass again until after she had taken another sip.

“Um, I guess it’s going to be a cab ride home for me hmm?” she said, as Norman drank more wine.

She didn’t have a vehicle but even if she did, neither of them were in any condition to drive.
Coffee with Bailey’s and 3 glasses of wine for her, and a shot of something earlier and at least 3 glasses of wine for him meant neither was getting behind the wheel.

“Why don’t you just stay?” he suggested.
“It’s late. It would be a long and expensive cab ride.”
He used the excuse as if money was a huge deal, which was obviously amusing.

“I don’t know. Probably not a good idea,” she replied hesitantly.

“You can have my bed, I’ll sleep on the couch. No big deal,” he shrugged.

Once again she found herself giving in to his crazy schemes.
Must be the alcohol, she thought.
“But there’s one thing we have to do before we go to sleep,” Norman said, standing up.

When Mel stood, she realized just how much she had drank.
It took a minute to get her bearings before she was ready to walk.
Once again she had no idea where she was going as Norman took her hand and led her from the room.

[TRANS] 100828 Shawol Fan Account - SMTown Live '10

This is a fan account by a SHINee fan, but it’s completely relevant because it’s mainly about TVXQ and Cassiopeia.

After everything that happened yesterday, the shock of being at the live concert, the heartache, the wonderful heartwarming moments, and then seeing all the photos and videos, there are so many emotions that I honestly dont’ know how to express. I wanted to start writing something last night, but I really didn’t know how to start. That night, I was in awe, not only by our kids, but also Yunho and Changm and the wonderful Cassiopeia and Shawols. Looking back on the videos from 2 years ago, I suddenly realized that our kids have really grown up. They used to run after their hyungs as their beloved dongsaengs, or perhaps those hyungs were a source of motivation…

I’ve always really admired Yunho, the past few years in Korea, everything about him, from his personality to his reputation, everything about him made people who loved him proud. That is why, when I saw the 8 whole banners dedicated to him at the stadium, I wasn’t surprised at all. Even when the entire stadium erupted with screams of ‘JUNG YUNHO’, I wasn’t surprised. Someone like him is totally deserving of that kind of love. I really like him as well, because I know that Yunho loves our SHINee, he buys them food and goes to watch their performances to give them support and encouragement, and he and Changmin always play basketball and go bowling with Minho. He brought Jonghyun and Key to dinner to watch the World Cup together, and went to Taemin’s dance training sessions despite having to work on his own CFs, magazine shoots and rehearsals. He helped our kids make the perfect 2nd album. He was even their for their comeback stage, going to the venue with them and staying with them backstage…

Knowing that the kids have a hyung like that makes me really happy and completely content. Everything that Yunho endured as the leader of TVXQ, he’s spoken to Onew about. He’s taught him so much, yes, he’s always trying his best to help Onew become an even greater leader than he is. At the same time, he also knows about the burdens and responsibilities he has to shoulder as a leader, and that is why, compared to the 4 other members, he is especially kind to Onew. Only because he knows too well how difficult it is to be in that position and how important it is to show him love and support. Onew, being younger and softer than Yunho needs extra love and protection. This hyung has put so much effort into protecting our kids, in the hope that his personal experience will help get them further and make them a better group. This is why, last night, when I saw a tired, quiet and expressionless Yunho exchanging glances with the 5 members; when I saw Onew by his side, Taemin putting his arm around his waist, Minho tugging him along and Jonghyun and Key walking past him over and over again to help cheer him up, I felt content and proud. Huuhuu, I don’t know whether it’s because I’m too much like a mother, everytime I see the SHINee members showing love for their hyung, I feel a rush of pride. They’re kids who really know the meaning of being grateful. Hyung’s time and love hadn’t been wasted, it’s no wonder he likes you all so much.

Yesterday, in the hearts of Cassiopeia who had been waiting for over a year by now, there was bitterness and pain, but more than that, they were proud. Anyone who sees them would be in awe by the love and devotion they’ve shown towards their idols. Of course, this is because their idols really have made themselves worthwhile of their sacrifices, yet what amazed me most was that whether it be this year’s Dream Concert or last night’s SMTown concert, Cassiopeia gave TVXQ the same red ocean. Last night, when the big screen started to pay the VCR of TVXQ, most of the fanlights had been switched off and I was almost a little shocked. However, in less than a minute, when TVXQ descended from above, the stadium which had previously been a sea of various different colours completely transformed in to a red ocean. This kind of scene, whether you’re a Cassiopeia or not, it really leaves people in complete awe, and for some, in tears. I saw lots of Cassiopeia unnies holding onto each other as tears poured out of their eyes. So many of them continued to wave their glow sticks and fan signs even as they were overcome with emotion.

That night, I should’ve been really happy because SHINee really delivered an amazing performance, they were so adorable and they had such a great time. Yet as I sat amidst the Cassiopeia unnies, I really couldn’t help myself from screaming and crying with them. When TVXQ’s performance ended, they really lost control. If the tears from before had been the result of a year’s worth of waiting, of pain, of controversy and of happiness over TVXQ’s return, then this time, they’d simply lost control. They were in so much pain that they all completely broke down. We’ve never heard the two talk about the pain and torment they’ve endured over the past year, yet we all understand, and that is why so many fans from all over the world have come to support them. In the end, the Yunho fans who were sitting next to me were still mumbling 'what to do what to do, (we) really want to go to the US, to China, to Japan, even if it’s only for 6 minutes, 6 minutes is better than nothing, (we) have to go with him.’ Some also said that seeing the fans with Bigeast towels who’d come all the way from Japan really hurt them more than anything. At the end of the concert, some of the Yunho fans came over to us Shawols and ELFs and bowed as they thanked us. Eventually, we all started crying with them, aish.

When I got home, I really wanted to see how the fans from China had reacted, of course, everyone was shocked and angry at first, but people slowly started to comfort one another, and I saw lots of words of encouragement from the fans. I was so touched! 'We’ll treat it as though the purpose of their appearance was not to dance or to sing, but simply to see those who’ve missed them and to tell us that they’re still protecting TVXQ, it’s completely worthwhile.’ 'Even though it only lasted 6 minutes and we waited 7 long hours, as long as we’re able to catch a glimpse of them and see that they’re well, it’s enough.’ There were lots of messages like that, and each and every single one of them touched me. All of a sudden, I remembered a conversation I’d had with a Yunho fan last night. I asked her why she loved Yunho so much and whether it was hard or tiresome for her. She replied 'I do get tired, of course I get tired, I get tired, bitter and angry. He really is a a fool, but there’s really nothing we can do, we’ll stay by his side and help him through the hard times because compared to everything he’s been through, our suffering and our exhaustion is nothing.’ After last night, I developed a newfound love for these unnie fans, I really really like them, they’re the most lovable fans I’ve ever met.

Thinking about how good the TVXQ oppas are to our SHINee and how nice the Cassiopeia unnies are to us, I really hope that one day, SHINee World will become just like Cassiopeia, so that our boys will be proud of us as well.

'Hello everyone, we are Dong Bang Shin Ki’
'Hello everyone, we are Cassiopeia’

This was the first time I’ve personally heard the exchange between TVXQ and their Cassiopeia and I was truly touched. I hope SHINee World and our boys will be able to achieve the same kind of perfect connection one day. I know we’re not far from it…
