So I have played Dishonored and the DLC, but I haven't played Dishonored 2 nor Death of the Outsider. Given that, ever since I heard about the story and primary characters of Dishonored 2, I've been quite jaded about it due to my impression it was a needless and nonsensical sequel. Especially given that there was so much more that Arkane could have explored without reusing the same characters. And now with Death of the Outsider, I feel that this is even more the case. Would you agree with that?
While I adore the main game of Dishonored 2, I do agree.
Personally, I thought the story of the Kaldwins, as well as Daud and Billie, were wrapped up very nicely in the first game and its DLCs. I thought there was no need to – to put it crudely – rehash essentially the same general plot points with essentially the same characters.
I talked about it before Dishonored 2 came out that I would have been more interested in a completely new protagonist with his or her own new relationships and connections. Perhaps still even set in Karnaca, though I personally would have preferred Tyvia or Pandyssia.
I do have to say, though, that I do like the depth Dishonored 2 added to Corvo’s character. I’ve been very much indifferent about him in the first game but during the second game, he has become a favourite of mine.
