Top Gear season two episode eight, photoset four: “Masters of the Universe.”

Little-known advantages of being part of the BBC empire - you can borrow a Dalek any time you need one. Top Gear set out to find the fastest villain in the galaxy, or more precisely, in a Honda Civic Type R. As usual, it doesn’t end well…

[Top Gear S2E4]

I’m posting this one out of sequence, sorry, but I was reminded of this quote and it just needed to exist in bloggable form. Jaguar XJR taking a few liberties with Jezza…

Top Gear season three episode two, photoset two: “No Limits.”

BMW’s beautiful and supremely powerful M3 CSL finds its natural home on the wild, twisty and, most importantly, derestricted roads of the Isle Of Man. We suspect Jezza should probably live there, too.

Top Gear season three episode two, photoset three: “Anything Jezza Can Do…”

…James and Richard can do better. Which is how they ended up on the Isle of Man with no fewer than three M-series cars: an E34 M5, an E30 M3, and the original One and only, a BMW M1. Never thought you’d see a badged-off Lamborghini? Well, you have now…

Top Gear season two episode ten, photoset three: “Sixteen.”

James having perhaps a little more fun than he ought, at the wheel of the breathtaking Cadillac Sixteen concept prototype. Thirteen and a half litre engine; sixteen cylinders, of which the car decides for itself whether to use four, eight, or the full house at any given time; one thousand horsepower; and a carved crystal Cadillac badge in the middle of the steering wheel. The absolute last word in over the top motoring. I want one.

Top Gear season two episode nine, photoset two: “Dutch Three-Wheeler.”

Vandenbrink Carver. I was going to call this set “The Many Faces of Richard Hammond”, but that was too long. Accurate, though, as you can see.

Top Gear season two episode eight, bonus reel: “And Now, The Weather.”

Couldn’t fit this sequence into the summer vacation set (here and here) but it was too cute not to post in full, so here you go. If you aren’t British, you will never truly appreciate the significance of this moment.

Top Gear season one episode four, bonus reel: “Right Answer.”

Jeremy spot-checking the general public’s priorities on the Isle of Wight, with the help of a £158,000 Aston Martin Vanquish. Happily, all appears to be in order… and who says Top Gear isn’t for girls? ;)

Top Gear season two episode seven, photoset three: “Hum Dinger.”

Jezza takes the Hummer H1 and H2 out to play and discovers that they don’t fit down English streets, drink like the proverbial sailor on shore leave (yes, that does say “1mpg” on the digital readout) and are generally the least practical cars on the planet. Not that that stops him from loving them, but is anyone surprised by that?

Top Gear season one episode six, photoset two: “Z4.”

Well… wouldn’t you be smirking like Hammond is in that top pic if you’d just been told you were going to Portugal to be fed expensive food, put up in a top hotel, and given a brand new BMW Z4 sports car to do bad things to? You would, let’s face it. Here’s a glimpse of the results…

Top Gear season one episode six, photoset three (part 1): “Mine.” (Part 2 is here.)

“Most of the cars that we feature on Top Gear are borrowed from huge, faceless car manufacturers. We simply keep them for a week and give them back when the tyres are worn out. But this one is different. This one… belongs to me. I bought it, with my money, and they’re my tyres and I’m not going to wear them out.” - Jeremy Clarkson, at the wheel of his very own personal Mercedes SL55 AMG.

*20mph round the TG track*

“Occasionally, though, you catch a glimpse of those aluminium slashes on the bonnet, like a big cat’s claws, and you think… I’m wasting this car. I’ve got to open the taps just a little bit…” - Jeremy Clarkson, same location as previous quote.

*five minutes later* *convertible top gone, tyres screaming, white smoke…*

Oh Jezza. You just couldn’t resist, could you? <3

Top Gear season two episode nine, photoset one: “The Future.”

James test-drives the GM Hy-wire, a car that has no mechanical controls whatsoever and runs on sea water. The future still hasn’t happened, sadly, but this is a remarkable glimpse of what it might have been.

Top Gear season one episode three, photoset one: “Doughnuts.”

Top Gear attempt to find out whether old people are better drivers than we think… by getting five grandmothers to do doughnuts in a Honda S2000, under the guidance of stunt driver Russ Swift. Here’s how it went down. Amazingly, and quite inspirationally, it turns out that grannies and doughnuts go together even better than policemen and doughnuts.

Oh, and any Hammond fanciers in the audience may also enjoy this insight into what happens when you send a Hamster to tea with the WI. Cute, no? :)

Top Gear season two episode five, photoset two: “Best Of British.”

Ah… anyone for some wet James May, ladies? Here we see Captain Slow braving some perfect British weather in the perfect British sports car, the Triumph TR6, and claiming that this somehow makes him more of a man. Whatever you say mate - although after being exposed to that much cold water I imagine his manhood needs all the help it can get, so I think we’ll allow him this one…
