lance: [comes up with a great plan]

shiro: wow, lance, that was really smart.

lance, on the outside: thanks, i know.

lance, on the inside: we’re both lying. i know it. he knows it. everyone knows it. i’m not smart. i have never done anything smart.

One thing that really gets me about today’s society is how emotional/psychological child abuse is normalized and even celebrated.

I’ve noticed a phenomenon of parents getting together and talking about how they’re such a Mean Mom or Mean Dad and how they’re raising their children to be respectful. They talk about destroying their children’s possessions, isolating them, humiliating them, and/or publicly shaming them.

And when these people hear about, say, a parent smashing a kid’s phone for not cleaning their room or burning their possessions or filming a punishment or embarrassing moment and putting it up on social media, they commend the parents for “teaching the kids a lesson”.

Why the fuck do we, as a society, think this is okay?

It doesn’t teach kids valuable life lessons, it teaches them to be scared of repercussions. It’s bullying and child abuse and for some reason, people think that’s commendable.

Whenever I hear people saying “haha I bet that 14 year old learned a lesson”, it instantly makes me suspicious of them. I will instantly think of you as either a potential child abuser or a child abuse enabler.

As a survivor of psychological abuse, people dismissing this behavior as “harmless life lessons” makes me wonder if it really was abuse. If I deserved it. If I really deserved to have my pet’s life threatened because I was a liar.

It’s not cute. It’s not “good parenting”. It’s intimidating, shaming, and traumatizing your child into compliance.

also trish drew this au too so you guys should check that out because it’s a really good drawing

I have to get this off my chest

I’m genuinely curious why people have such an issue with people shipping Tarjei and Henrik.

Shipping is not stalking. I do not spam their social media asking about it (I have never even asked once) I respect their privacy.

All I am doing is simply appreciating their chemistry and thinking they’d make a cute couple, what’s wrong with that!?

I’m seriously wondering. The only argument I’ve seen is that they’re real people; NEWSFLASH! People fall in love literally every single day. Why does them being actors make it any different for them!? Do you know how many co-stars have fallen in love for real? Thousands. If not hundreds of thousands. Hell, it might even be millions! They are not robots. They are capable of love, why is me thinking they are in love such a horrible thing to some of you? I truly don’t understand…

Inspired by this text post   and this tweet!

I really liked the idea behind it and its simplicity!
hope you dont mind me adding a few sentences to it! :’)
I cried making this ngl. also. guess who philed in the lines. im so sorry.

fun fact: i originally read Oumagadoki Zoo around the time when it first came out, about 6-7 years ago (around 2010-11)

i was still in highschool.

that was also Horikoshi’s first official weekly debut. sadly, it was canceled not long after along with his second series (Oumagadoki at 38 chapters, and Barrage at 12), but i’m so glad he’s continued on even past these failures and went on to create MHA

i always knew that dude had a lot of potential, and i’m so glad he kept going until now

the only reason it took me so long to touch MHA was because Oumagadoki and Barrage were canceled soon after they started, and i didn’t want to get my hopes up only to have them crushed again. (also, because while Oumagadoki had a lot of heart in it, Barrage felt very forced and uninteresting to me. i was worried the new series might have that same feel in it’s writing style; Horikoshi even went on to say that he didn’t enjoy writing Barrage.

thankfully, MHA has never had that feeling to it. you can tell how much Horikoshi enjoys writing it, and he puts so much heart and care in the story and the characters. you can just tell how much he loves writing MHA.)

also, as sad as i am that Oumagadoki got cancelled after only 38 chapters, i think it really helped Horikoshi hone his writing skills, because a lot of what he put into Oumagadoki has been reused in MHA. things like character designs, traits, development, and plot points that originally appeared in Oumagadoki have all been reused and reinterpreted in MHA in new and interesting ways.

the biggest i can think of are Shiina’s childlike mentality vs. Shigaraki’s (and the circumstances that lead to it), and how Shishidou started out as an aggressive character obsessed with being Number One who eventually mellowed and became more of a friend to the cast vs. Bakugou’s own similar character development.

but that’s hardly the end of it

not to mention, look at his art development.

the top pic is his first published colorspread for Oumagadoki (and his first published colorspread EVER). the bottom is for MHA that was published about a year ago. that’s only a few years difference, about maybe 4-5? maybe??

he originally started out using traditional art like most of his fellow mangaka, but he obviously had a hard time using copics and markers. but somewhere along the way, he switched to digital; he still draws the outline traditionally with an ink pen, but all the coloring is done digitally, and it has done WONDERS for his art

a comparison between Oumagadoki’s first colored chapter cover vs. one of My Hero Academia’s.

the dude has improved A LOT.

idk where this post is going, haha. Horikoshi is just a dude i’ve been following since i was about… 15-16? i’m an adult now, and i’m following his current series, which is getting so much attention and it’s so well written and it just passed it’s 100th chapter and it’s actually popular

i followed Oumagadoki Zoo week by week, hoping that it would raise a little in the rankings so it wouldn’t get canceled, only for it to end prematurely

My Hero Academia has just hit it’s 120th chapter, is about to air the second season of it’s anime, and already has a dub for the first.

i’m just really proud of Horikoshi and how far he’s come. despite failing twice, he continued on, and now he’s onto his third series and he’s doing such a good job with writing his characters and his story. people are finally appreciating his work.

and his story is unique; yes, it’s similar to what we’ve seen before, but he’s so good at manipulating and subverting common shonen tropes, and he’s telling this Hero’s Journey in a way that we’ve never seen in this genre before. the mentor doesn’t die, the mother actually has a say in her son’s life, the characters are actually punished and rewarded for their actions instead of having them brushed over, etc. the young character’s mental health is actually a THING and treated seriously.

so yeah, i’m just… really proud of Horikoshi. he’s come so far and improved so much. i wanted for so long for him to have a series that became popular, and he did. i kinda grew up with this guy and saw the potential he had, even as he failed and failed, but i had hoped, dearly hoped, that he would finally break through and get his day

and he has.

i’m just…. so proud of Horikoshi, you guys. so proud

I know we all want Chaol coming back from the Southern Continent and just being…overwhelmed to say the least by everything that’s happened in his absence. But I kind of think some sort of massive drama is going to go down there. And he’s just going to come back and be so done with everything already. So he just ends up even more done with still more drama being heaped onto his plate.

Like, Aelin is in an iron box being controlled by a demon fae queen? Wonderful. Dorian has decided to start banging a lethal witch queen? Great. Someone has to die in order to correct Elena’s past mistakes? Fantastic. An army of assassins turned up on my doorstep along with another army led by another assassin from the wastes? Uh-huh, and? Oh we’re on the brink of an all consuming, apocalyptic war with the Valg, our queen and greatest hope against them is actually Lysandra pretending to be Aelin, our king has lost his kingdom, we have the definition of a ragtag army which is all that’s standing between us and the destruction of our world? Sigh. When do we start?

He’s just going to be…so you’re telling everything’s gone to hell and nothing’s gone to plan at all? Did you expect me to be surprised by this? What else is new? This is what we’ve been doing since the start.

have you ever experienced that feeling where you fall in love with your otp all over again? like everyone loves their otps as they progress slowly and they slowly fall in love with them, but then while reading fanfic or watching fanvids or just sitting around but you’re suddenly hit by how beautiful and amazing your otp is all over again and just how far they’ve come and every reason why you ship them and it just makes you emotional and want to cry in the middle of the room and it’s fucking wonderful
