I did bees for a few reasons (one of them being the @nailpornography theme for this week). They remind me of my childhood dog and my niece, and I just really love bees. The Black-eyed Susans are for my grandmother, they grow wild on the side of the dirt road where she lives in the countryside. I included a bunch of shots because I am REALLY proud of how these turned out. They are probably my second most favorite design I’ve done (next to my easter bunny nails). There is some tip wear because I waited a bit to paint these but it’s not much so I didn’t bother to fix it.
I used Color Club Halo Hues Harp On It, and Color Show Impeccable Greys with ILNP My Private Rainbow. The rest of the design is acrylic paint.
every time i watch that scene where lance is talking about how he “did the math” etc., i can never stop looking at his fingernails. why…does he look like he has a manicure. like his nails look like he takes good care of them. and no one is saying anything about it…. why.
While I was writing something else today I stumbled into a realisation: bigots who hate media representation and headcanons are so angry because they literally cannot win.
Take Overwatch as an example. People headcanon every single one of those characters as LGBTQ+, and we’re not about to be proven wrong. Blizzard isn’t going to come out and say they’re straight/cis. Sure, Ana has had a child with Pharah’s father, but the next comic isn’t going to have her say “I am only attracted to men.” So, I can say Ana is bisexual, or pansexual, or a lesbian who wanted a child/came out later, and so on, and no one can prove otherwise.
Yes, someone else can say Ana is straight, and I can’t prove otherwise either. But their headcanons make no difference to me.
People’s headcanons do affect bigots. There are people who can’t fucking stand that I headcanon Ana as bi.
And it gets worse for them, because there’s a whole community built up around these kinds of headcanons. The biggest community on Tumblr. A community that Blizzard acknowledges with things like Tracer being canonically gay. And this community doesn’t care that they’re so angry about their headcanons, they’re gonna keep at it.
And yes, the bigots have a community, of sorts. But it’s built on tearing down, not building up. LGBTQ+ fans create, bigots only want to destroy.
And there’s always room for creation. But it’s impossible to destroy what someone else imagines.
