(Unsurprising) Veasey procedural updates
It will be surprising to no one, but the Fifth Circuit today appointed the same panel to preside over the Veasey congressional redistricting suit as was previously appointed for the consolidated San Antonio cases.
In an equally unsurprising development, the panel acted quickly to adopt a scheduling order mirroring the schedule in the consolidated cases (though technically the case has yet to be formally consolidated).
Meanwhile, and of more substantive import, no panel has of yet has been appointed in the State of Texas’ section 5 pre-clearance suit in Washington. The presiding judge, however, is Judge Rosemary M. Collyer, a 2003 appointee of President George W. Bush.
