Transiting Mercury enters Scorpio

October 17 -  November 5, 2017

Who wants to get into a war of words with Oscar Wilde or John Lennon? Not I! Mercury spends about 20 days here in Scorpion-Land. As usual the aspects to be formed are a mixed bag, fairly well balanced between challenging and easy-peasy.

Mercury is also fully into its Epimethean-Direct phase. “Here the calculated risk replaces the intuitive gamble,” in Michael R. Meyers’ words - and in Scorpio that level (depth?) of calculation can be fearsome. Watch out for less scrupulous people during these three weeks - and try not to be one, yourself.

As with all the water Mercuries, there can be resistance to learning something new. Here it’s based on the natural Scorpio tendencies of suspicion and paranoia. Once we decide to learn, though, we’ll want the most thorough, profound understanding of the subject. Try to work within the 20-day limit! We’ll have all the time we need if the topic is truly important to us.

The thinking-it-over process is deep, intense, and secretive. If other people will be affected by your decision, you may need to make an effort to allow them in on the process. Epimethean-Direct Mercuries look to the past to help them reason things out, and Scorpio Mercuries have loooooong memories. It’s also entirely possible to get “stuck” on one particular facet, and this is where allowing others’ input is valuable.

Communication styles: well, Oscar and John. And:

  • Gandhi on western civilization: “I think it would be a good idea.”
  • Grace Kelly: “The idea of my life as a fairy tale is a fairy tale.”
  • Aishwarya Rai: “I’m not the type who’ll yell about my achievements from the rooftops.”
  • Winston Churchill: “If you’re going through hell, keep going.”

Short, sweet, pithy, and deadly. These natives know the power of language. (Katy Perry: “I like a good boy, but sometimes you get bored.”)

Finally, this is a great three weeks for conducting research. To the Mercurian breadth of information, we add Scorpionic depth: we want to get to the bottom of things. If you have, oh, I don’t know, some crucial term paper coming up - or anything else which would involve three weeks of intensive investigation - seize upon this opportunity with both hands.

Celebrities with Mercury in Scorpio:
John Lennon, Oscar Wilde, Katy Perry, Jodie Foster, Gandhi, Julia Roberts, Grace Kelly, Bruce Lee, Aishwarya Rai, Drake, Pablo Picasso, Zac Efron, Snoop Dogg, Winston Churchill, Prince Charles, Viggo Mortensen, Arthur Rimbaud, Walt Disney, Lorde, RuPaul, Julianne Moore, Buster Keaton, Sinead O’Connor, Deepak Chopra, Sylvia Plath, Martin Scorsese, Whoopi Goldberg, Mark Ruffalo, John Malkovich

Wednesday, October 18, Jupiter/Scorpio conjunct Mercury/Scorpio, 1:41

Except for those made by the Moon, here’s the first aspect made after Jupiter’s ingress into Scorpio - as well as the first aspect Mercury makes, period. Did you think I was pulling “term paper” out of my butt?!? This is the beginning of about a year-long Mercury-Jupiter cycle, the “seeding” of new information and ideas. Take a good look at where it falls, in your chart. It’s an extremely promising area of study for you. Especially allow yourself to “open up” Thursday evening/Friday morning, when the Moon shines a little light on matters.

Planets/Points affected lie between 0:41 and 2:41 of the signs Taurus*, Cancer, Leo*, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Aquarius*, and Pisces.

Saturday, October 21, Pallas Rx/Taurus opposite Mercury/Scorpio, 7:51;
Sunday, October 22, Saturn/Sagittarius (23:47) semi-square Mercury/Scorpio (8:47);
Ceres/Leo square Mercury/Scorpio, 9:20;
Monday, October 23, Chiron Rx/Pisces (25:06) sesquare Mercury/Scorpio (10:06)

“Events” could be triggered Friday, by Moon/Scorpio, leaving us with the entire weekend to pick up the pieces - yet the  dust may not settle until Tuesday morning! This wretched set-up is what I hinted about in the Weekly forecast, about refusing to listen to anyone, but especially older &/or wiser people. We’d rather crash and burn than admit we might be wrong. And I don’t think people can get much stupider than to have that attitude. (Of course it’s affecting Dolt 45′s Sun at 22:57 Gemini 10th - and his Nessus at 9:06 Taurus/9th. He’s the prime example of everything I’m trying to caution us against.)

Planets/Points affected lie between 6:51 and 11:06 of the signs Taurus*, Leo*, Scorpio*, and Aquarius*; and between 21:51 and 26:06 of the mutable signs Gemini*, Virgo*, Sagittarius*, and Pisces*.

Tuesday, October 24, Neptune Rx/Pisces trine Mercury/Scorpio, 11:41;
Juno/Capricorn sextile Mercury/Scorpio, 11:46

Okay, well, lovely! If we’re going to allow a trusted partner into our thought process (even before we’ve come to any conclusion), this is the time! It’s easy to keep each other on the higher road, too, with all those lofty Neptune/Pisces ideals summoning us further up and further in. The effects may linger into Wednesday the 25th, as a practical and realistic Moon/Capricorn inserts itself authoritatively into the mix. Listen to Grandma.

Planets/Points affected lie between 10:41 and 12:46 of the yin signs Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Pisces.

Friday, October 27, Pluto/Capricorn sextile Mercury/Scorpio, 17:04

Our minds are powerful, disciplined, and able to use the past as a guide for the future. We appreciate straight talk; save the florid Baroque flourishes for later. This sextile will also make it easier to utter some short, pithy comment yourself. Not “sweet,” though. Our instincts are to lash out verbally, and coldly, at whatever impedes us. Remember that with Mercury in Scorpio, everybody else has a long memory, too.

Planets/Points affected lie between 16:04 and 18:04 of the yin signs Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Pisces.

Sunday, October 29, North Node/Leo square Mercury/Scorpio, 20:13;
South Node/Aquarius square Mercury/Scorpio, 20:13

Here again is where blunt words and closed minds come back to haunt us. Not to mention being intellectually secretive, suspicious, and controlling. Maybe we’re getting off too much on being “misunderstood outcasts” - unrecognized, scorned, misjudged Byronic heroes - phooey. Get your head out of your behind (Scorpio!), purge the negative thought patterns, and find a place of genuine solidarity with others.

Planets/Points affected lie between 19:13 and 21:13 of the fixed signs Taurus*, Leo*, Scorpio*, and Aquarius*; and between 4:13 and 6:13 of the cardinal signs Aries*, Cancer*, Libra*, and Capricorn*.

Wednesday, November 1, Chiron Rx/Pisces trine Mercury/Scorpio, 24:48

Nice for purging and then healing the brain, nervous system, and everything else Mercury is associated with. We recognize how important it is to “go high” in all our thought processes - that it is a healthy thing to purify ourselves. We could also find ourselves interested in some particular faith or spiritual practice - very appropriate way to get ready for 67 days of Mercury/Sagittarius, right?!

Planets/Points affected lie between 23:48 and 25:58 of the yin signs Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Pisces.

Happy Hetalia Reminder for November 29th

Sealand reminds everyone with exams or tests or final assignments/term papers coming up that you’ll get through them! Don’t try to focus on everything at once, cause then nothing will get done. Work through one thing at a time, prioritize what’s most important, and don’t forget to eat and sleep and take occasional breaks.
