Temptation of the Beast

Over the Garden Wall is such an inspiring show to draw fan art for.

Funny thing is, I had to force myself to watch the first couple episodes. It took me a while to really get into, but the ending changed everything because suddenly it all makes sense

I really loved that, and I’m so happy they aired it even with being such a niche jewel.

My child, give Me your heart and let your eyes delight in My ways. Proverbs 23:26
In other words, when we give our heart over to God, He directs it towards His love and we are able to follow Him wholeheartedly. We are able to accomplish things for God’s glory and overcome temptations that might have otherwise been impossible.
Verses to ponder:
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life” Proverbs 4:23
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21
“Set your heart on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God” Colossians 3:1

I thought at the first that Jack Randall had stolen a bit of my soul, and then I knew it was worse than that. All of it was my own, and had been all along; it was only he’d shown it to me, and made me know it for myself. That’s what he did that I canna forgive, and may his own soul rot for it.

Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon

I love the depths of this scene but especially of this statement. It shows how much choice plays into everything about who we are as people. It’s scarier if we can’t say that someone is simply born bad/evil, but that they could be better and choose not to––and that the potential for the same lies within oneself, that it is through vigilance, self-awareness, and choice that one overcomes such temptations every time they arise.

During Nam Joo Hyuk’s interview, he was asked about his real personality to which he replied, “I’m a sexy younger man. I think guys who have a sexy quality to them are more cool.

Encounter with otherness is crucial in this conception of passionate love. It is not a unifying passion, like the rapture that blends and unites Tristan and Isolde, which so impressed Nietzsche when he wrote The Birth of Tragedy. Nor is it a consuming passion, like the allsubduing desire of Don Giovanni. Its emphasis on an asymmetry in love chimes better with the “Christian in love with aesthetics,” as the Devil describes the Kierkegaard who wrote the Don Giovanni essay out of a consciousness that modified, without abolishing, the apparently absolute opposition of Either/Or. The Devil speaks with some authority here, as the very emblem of otherness who nevertheless tempts us with, or insists upon, intimacy.

Fred Parker, The Devil as Muse: Blake, Byron, and the Adversary

The Devil exults most when he can steal a man’s joy of spirit from him. He carries a powder with him to throw into any smallest possible chinks of our conscience, to soil the spotlessness of our mind and the purity of our life. But when spiritual joy fills our hearts, the Serpent pours out his deadly poison in vain.
—  St. Francis of Assisi
Temptation will always be present in your relationships. Be strong and daring enough to choose LOVE over LUST. Shut it down before it shuts your relationship down.
