teenage republican

I am Catholic.

That is all.

Wait. You know what? No, that’s not all.

I will practice my religion regardless of anyone’s problems with it. I do not care what conquerors did centuries ago. I do not care that you disagree. I do not care that Christianity as a whole rejects us like that cousin you avoid at Christmas.

I am Catholic. The only thing that will stop me from being Catholic is if God himself tells me so.

Schools: do not EVER teach a history lesson, and then have the reason for the horrors of 1609 be “because the king was Catholic”.
That’s not right.

Don’t claim that “Catholics worship Mary”. We don’t, we respect her.

Don’t EVER say “ there is a difference between being Christian and being Catholic ”. There is none.

Don’t tell me that because I don’t follow every practice of my religion that I’m “not devout”. I pledged myself to my religion when I was fifteen.

Catholic people are Christian.

Do not speak about my faith as if you know what you are talking about when you don’t have the decency to say the right things.

Catholic High School was bizarre, though. Oh, that sex ed video.

*Teacher* “We will teach you about how children are made. But we will not, as a Catholic school, however, teach you about contraception.”

*guy in class* “How many kids do you have?”

*Teacher, who had been married for many, many years* “Two.”

*guy in class* “Two.”

Everyone went quiet. It was genuinely uncomfortable.

If only he had been more attractive and hadn’t been nasty and teased me about my hair. I think I’d have married him.

  • adults: kids these days arent involved enough in politics!
  • teenagers: i dont think im a republican
  • teenagers: obama is a just leader
  • teenagers: donald trump is sexist, racist, and homophobic. he's not a good candidate for 2016
  • adults: WHAT THE FUCK! YOURE A KID YOU SHOULDNT BE INVOLVED IN POLITICS! GO BACK AND PLAY WITH YOUR HOT WHEELS
Most of being a girl seems to revolve around being afraid, though.

You’re a little girl: Be afraid of not liking the right Disney movie or having cool sleepovers, fancy birthday parties and of not 100% fitting in with the others.

You become a teenage girl: Be afraid of not being pretty or good enough or wearing the right clothes and of not having sex yet.

You get into your twenties: Be afraid of dark alleys and parks at night and drinking and wearing revealing clothes because then they’ll say you asked for it.

What if I’m done with being afraid?

So many nervous, awkward teenage girls would be a lot better off if they simply decided: “Who cares?”

“Who cares if you’re pretty?” “Who cares if you’re thin?” “Who cares if you’re wearing the right label?”

No one does. It’s trivial. It means nothing.

And the people who DO care? They’re sad, nasty, petty little assholes looking to point out other people’s flaws so they don’t feel so bad about themselves.

They want you to think it’s a big deal, but it’s only a big deal to them.

Thus, I solemnly give you One Direction teenyboppers (the ones who like Harry Styles and his hair and whatnot) and sad teenage girls advice I desperately wish someone had given 13 year old me.

Stop. Giving. A. Shit.

The people who attack you are nothing. Absolutely nothing. And deep down, despite the fear and anxiety and peer pressure,  you have known they were. nothing. All along.

NOBODY DESERVES TO BE HATED OR DISCRIMINATED AGAINST FOR ONE CATEGORY OUT OF A THOUSAND THAT THEY FALL INTO.

Most republican teenagers, college aged, 20-somethings (non Donald trump supporters that is) are the MOST mature people I know online and off. If I feel like someone is immature I can be sure they’re either liberal or voting for trump.

Has anyone else noticed this?

PSA:

- don’t make fun of teenagers for being republicans. not everybody loves bernie sanders.
- don’t make fun of your friends for being republicans. after all if you guys are really friends, it shouldn’t matter what political opinions they express, only that you respect them.
- thank you this has been a PSA.

What are your thoughts on the recent meninist crap?

It isn’t new. It started on twitter with one meninist parody account, which was just satire. Then it got popular and there became more and more meninist accounts that posted the same images and tweets. They are all carbon copies or eachother, just search up “meninist” on twitter. It took off, and one of the accounts started selling shirts.

This is like the GOPteens twitter, originally intended as satire, but gathered a following of actual republican teenagers who buy their shirts (sure, a lot of the sales are also people who think its funny)

The funny thing is, it started as satire and now men are declaring themselves meninists and joining a movement intended as a joke.

The people who say feminists cannot get a joke, literally cannot get a joke.
