teen movie soundtrack

That commercial has aired a gazillion times over the last several weeks. I wonder if they get a per play or lump sum? Cuz wow.

I’m guessing a lump sum based on a calculated number of plays to a calculated audience amount.

One time a zillion years ago (ok, it was 2001), a friend of mine sold licensing rights to a song used on a major teen movie soundtrack - her song was in the background and not really identifiable - Def not a song associated with the movie. She got enough money from that one license to rent an apartment, buy a car, pay all her debts, and pay all her bills in our (very inexpensive) college town for over two years. I wanna say she got just over 100k.

The money that musicians can earn in licensing is CRAZY.
