00Q fic recs

The lovely @grey-sleipnir is considering checking out 00Q and asked me for recs, yay! This is as short a list as I could make it. Here’s hope you’ll find something to your liking, dear.

Wheelhouse, by recrudescence
Words: 6,003
Rating: Explicit
The one where Bond really, really isn’t used to sleeping with people who don’t tragically die soon afterward.

Mercenary, by BootsnBlossoms and Kryptaria
Words: 66,075
Rating: Explicit
Five years ago, Commander James Bond of Her Majesty’s Royal Navy left England in disgrace, escaping a court martial – and what should have been a promising career in MI6 with Alec Trevelyan, his oldest friend. He becomes a mercenary, selling his military expertise to the highest bidder, though not once does he act against England or her interests.
Now, new intelligence has possibly located Bond in the United States, and Alec is tasked with the mission to bring him back to MI6. But to do so will require a very unique type of field operative – one Bond will never suspect.
Enter Aidan Green, codename Q.

Remember Me, by Jen
Words: 5,667
Rating: T+
Bond has lost his memory. Q has lost his love.

“What have I forgotten?” Bond asked; Q watched him, trying to find the James he knew.
“Nothing that you won’t work out on your own, if it’s really important,” Q said carefully, before returning every fraction of his attention to the computer in front of him.

(^ all fics listed here are favs, but this one really gets to me)

Slow Dancing in a Burning Room, by feelslikefire
Words: 66,236
Rating: Explicit
What followed was the most bizarre courtship Q had ever—well, heard of, certainly. He didn’t have much to compare it to, but Moneypenny confirmed that normal people didn’t flirt like this. Not that he was normal. Not that any of them were.
Or: Q has a past, a cat, and a dangerous new boyfriend. Two of these things keep him up nights, the other pees in a box.

Gloria In Excelsis, by feelslikefire
Words: 3,890
Rating: Explicit
Q has a dirty secret; Bond has an attraction and now he’s got the excuse to act on it. Smut featuring glory hole(s).

Making An Adjustment, by Sarah_Ellie
Words: 14,960
Rating: Explicit
For years, Q took special suppressants to disguise himself as a Beta. He thought he could hide his status as an Omega and live a relatively quiet life as the head of Q Branch.
Unfortunately, his job at MI6 would prove to be the very thing that ruins everything.

How Q Hacked Online Dating, by JayEz
Words: 23,836
Rating: Explicit

“How does that lead to…?” Eve waves her hand at the mess behind Q’s back.
Q feels his expression morph into a sly grin. “I have a new plan. I’m going to stay on these dating platforms, but I’m going to treat them as databases. Rather than waiting for an algorithm to set me up, I’m going to try reverse-engineering this entire system.”

In which Q works in the private sector, still winds up friends with Eve, and applies science to his love life. Obviously, Eve gets involved.

Curtains, by winterhill
Words: 20,352
Rating: T+
Indulgent domesticity. No real plot to speak of, just Bond and Q moving in together as friends after Q is targeted and his place burnt down, and slowly progressing to being a couple.

Prestigious, by releasetheglitch
Words: 7,207
Rating: T+
"The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” —Yeats
There are three components to every good magic act.
(Magicians!AU)

There are also my own fics. I’m learning to get over the no-self-promo thing, so I’ll link to three of them:

Grace Period
Words: 22,609
Rating: Explicit
In retrospect, the whole thing was a series of extremely poor decisions on Q’s part, none of which he regretted in the slightest.
Or, AU in which IT-techie!Q is chatted up by one James Bond and doesn’t have the heart to tell him that he’s also MI6.
(It’s basically structured like a rom-com, all the indulgent domesticity you can think of, Q’s POV)

October skywatching
Words: 2,250
Rating: T+
James Bond turned out to be surprisingly bad at long-term casual, and utterly clueless to boot.

A Matter of Convenience
Words: 19,533
Rating: Explicit
‘twas why the whole thing had been sanctioned in the first place: minimal disturbance of the status quo, just a blip in their routine, no consequences. So what if the Quartermaster had had an untimely, dangerous heat and 007 had been the one assigned to see him through it. Both of them knew better than to let anything come of it. (Alpha/Omega dynamics)
(This one is mostly smut and angst. Remember when UST was a thing? If there was an ‘Unresolved Romantic Issues’ tag, it’d be the one for this baby)

Happy reading!

00QAD First meetings

Alex meets Q at work when his handlers sent Alex to pick up his gear before his next mission. He’d met R and other techies from the Q Branch but never the head of the Branch.

Alex, of course, noticed that Q looked remarkably like Danny. Their mannerisms were different. Q’s hair was longer.

‘Q even took off his glasses to clean them off, likely a nervous gesture,’ thought Alex.

But then Q started talking encryption, specifically the new code that Alex would be attempting to crack during his mission. Alex realized that Q was brilliant, perhaps as intelligent as Alex was – although Alex chose not to broadcast his knowledge of computers to others in most contexts because it intimidated and alienated people.

—-

Bond met Danny by accident outside of MI6. For a moment, James thought it was Q before realizing the gait, hair and clothing were off. This wasn’t his confident quartermaster who loved to dress in hipster clothing and perpetually wrinkled suits. Who was this man? Why was waiting outside of MI6?

Danny noticed James Bond staring at him as he waited patiently for Alex to meet him for a late lunch. Danny had been doing freelance voice over work thanks to a connection through Scottie.

Although Alex didn’t expect Danny to pay for half of the flat rent because they were living in a gorgeous flat in Knightsbridge, Danny tried to pay his way.

When Bond smiled at him, Danny was a bit worried. He knew beautiful, well dressed men didn’t smile at him without wanting something. Danny knew all about men with agendas.

Bond just wanted to know who Q’s look-a-like was. Who was this boy? And did Q know about his doppelganger?

Who knew that these inauspicious beginnings would be the start of a wonderful relationship?
