You hadn’t expected to become a hero of Queens, much less being called a ‘superhero’ by its civilians. You felt an overwhelming need to protect the city, to put yourself in the line of duty to ensure the safety of the citizens. Those people were who you interacted with every day; from the old woman who knits on the subway every morning, to the deli owner who made your favorite meatball subs. Your neighbors, your classmates, your parents. Too many horrible things happened in the quiet of the night that you felt deep in your bones you had to do something about it–anything.
It was absolutely freezing in the compound that fine Saturday afternoon. Which made no sense, considering it was July and the temperature outside was near boiling. It was the cold that woke you up from your nap that afternoon. Sprawled out on the couch in the living room, you rubbed the sleep out of your eyes as a shiver raked through your body at the freezing temperature around you. Shivering slightly, for you were only in a tank-top and shorts from your morning workout, you searched for the blanket that usually rested on the couch. Groaning when you noticed its absence, you stood up from the comfy couch to be met with the cold wood floor.
“Why is it so damn cold?” You asked yourself as you rubbed your arms trying to gain some warmth.
“The thermostat is broken, Miss (Y/L/N),” FRIDAY’S voice rang out, scaring you just a tad. You still weren’t used to that AI yet.
“And how did it get broken?”
“Mr. Stark was testing out a new invention and accidentally destroyed the thermostat. Unfortunately, my connection to the thermostat was destroyed in the process and I can not adjust the temperature until Mr. Stark fixes it.”
Groaning and silently cursing Tony, you rolled your eyes at this new information. Of course it was Tony. Who else would it be?
Mumbling a quick thanks to FRIDAY, you set out for your room as you walked across what now became the Arctic. Before you even made it out of the living room, your eyes caught sight of a stray shirt laying around. Making your way towards it, you about cried from joy once you saw that it was long-sleeved and had extra lining in it. Without even thinking about who the owner of this fine shirt was, you pulled it over your head and was immediately surrounded by warmth.
The shirt was definitely big on you, for it draped well past your shorts and the sleeves extended way past your arms. The smell attached to the shirt was even warm as it reminded you about a campfire, or possibly cookies baking.
Continuing your way towards your room, you felt the icy cold on your face. Thankfully, the cold did not seep through the wonder-shirt since it kept you nice and toasty. Deciding that you could go for some hot chocolate, you stopped in the kitchen where you found the other Avengers huddled around their own mugs of hot cocoa.
“Afternoon, everyone,” You greeted, a spring in your step as you began to make your hot cocoa. You were greeted by various groans as the others answered you. Turning around to face your disgruntled teammates, you smiled at them as you leaned back against the counter and sipped your hot cocoa.
“Is that my shirt?” Scott asked, shocked at the sight before him.
“What?” You questioned as you finally looked down at the shirt hanging loosely from your body. Sure enough, it was Scott’s shirt as you saw the words ‘PYM TECHNOLOGY’ and logo scrawled across the front of the dark gray shirt in white. Embarrassment flowed through your veins as you tried to hide your face from the laughs of the Avengers. Everyone on the team except Scott knew about your long-time crush on the one and only Ant-Man, so to be found standing in the midst of all the Avengers, including Scott, wearing his shirt without asking, was absolutely mortifying.
“Oh gosh, Scott, I’m so sorry, I didn’t know, I just-” You stumbled out, earning more laughs from your teammates as you stuttered in front of your crush.
Cheeks lightly tinged pink, Scott gave you a small smile. “It’s okay, really. Keep it. You look great in it.”
Silence followed Scott’s comment as tension filled the room. Finally, from the back of the crowd, Tony’s voice could be heard.
“LANG LIKES (Y/N)! I KNEW IT! PAY UP, BANNER!”
Embarrassment flooded through your veins once more as your eyes caught Scott’s as his face flushed pink.
“But I never bet that he didn’t like her?” Banner mumbled out in between the raucous laughs of the Avengers. Burying your face into your hand, you tried to block out your teammates as you tried to hide from your embarrassment. Feeling a tap on your shoulder, you peeked through your fingers and met the face of Scott.
“Lets get out of here, yeah?” Scott asked as he motioned to the laughing Avengers behind him.
“Please,” You answered as Scott took your hand. Leading you from the loudness behind you, Scott looked down at you.
“I meant what I said, you know. You do look great in my shirt.”
Heat rushing through your body, you managed to squeak out a small ‘thanks.’
“Anytime. Oh, you’re also keeping my shirt,” Scott quickly said without thinking. “You know, in case Tony ever breaks the thermostat again. Wouldn’t want you to get cold.”
“Thanks, Lang,” You smiled up at him as he wrapped an arm around your waist.
