My two cents on Tiger Philanthropist: wrestlers are sorted between "Faces" and "Heels"- "heel" wrestlers are deliberately antagonistic, and frame themselves as 'Bad Guys' while "face" wrestlers are just the opposite, heroic characters. In Tiger Millionaire, Steven debuted his wrestling persona as a heel- acting rudely, 'you couldn't afford it'- and it had a bad impression on him. While Amethyst enjoyed being a heel- we see Puma cheerfully motioning for the crowd to be ruder [1/?]

Steven had a really bad time as a heel once people started to dislike him (see: Lars) and while he defended Amethyst’s right to wrestle and won the tag team match with Puma, he also, from what we know, stopped wrestling himself. So I think that it’s very likely if Steven revived his wrestling persona, he would retool into a face character- hence, Tiger Millionaire to Tiger Philanthropist. “millionaire” brings to mind a greedy corporate exec [2/?]

while a philanthropist would be explicitly someone who uses their wealth to help others. As for what in particular could inspire Steven to go back to wrestling, a friend of mine speculated that it actually might occur during a Jasper redemption arc. Jasper is someone who would probably enjoy wrestling, but given her insecurity and her need to prove herself, my friend pointed out that Jasper would probably create, if anything, [3/?]

an excessively heroic face character. It’s incredibly important for Jasper to be seen as Right and Good, and just as Amethyst’s disinterest in explaining Puma beyond ‘he’s just the big bad guy who’s here to fight’ was something analyzed, this could potentially also open up, and explore, Jasper’s need to be seen as a Hero- which is absolutely something she needs to work on, as styling herself as the would-be war hero, defeater of Rose [4/?]

is a huge part of her identity thus far and something she’s inevitably going to need to deconstruct and come to terms with- because we know she isn’t going to be able to defeat Rose the way she wants to. [5/5]

I really want to talk about this submission, but I’m going to leave this here because it’s a theory very interesting on its own. I particularly like the idea of Steven shaping his wrestling persona and Jasper joining in the ring.
