teaching you about the world

Beneath This Scar | M

“Are you willing to stay by his side knowing what he truly is?”

Précis: He was mysterious, sketching all the time and oblivious to what fluttered around him. You were curious about him, but your curiousness leads to something you didn’t really sign up for.

Note: Inspired by the movie Wolf Children, totally different from this fic tho, so no need to worry. this was supposed to be 3k what happened-

Genre & Warnings: Angsty, alotta fluff, mentions of blood & implied smut. | Words ➳ 10.3k

To you, he was something you would have never known could actually exist.

He was as mysterious as they would come, holding his pencil in a way so elegant that you didn’t know was possible, the look of boredom sprouting through his features as he scrunched his nose in concentration; ears twitching while he tried to draw something perfect and pleasing to his eyes. You watched him sketch with such wonder in your irises, and even though you wondered how he could draw while ignoring the professor speak and try to teach his students about the basic wonders of the world — you hadn’t known that whilst watching the boy draw, you were also in a little world of your own and not paying attention yourself.

Writing is Hard: Racism in a Fantasy Landscape

I wasn’t going to write about the Black Witch. And I’m still not going to write about it (if you’re curious about the book you can check out Goodreads here:  https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25740412-the-black-witch).  But I do want to talk about two things that have been on my mind since reading reviews: racism in fantasy and redemptive arcs for actively racist characters.  Because I think it’s important for authors going forward to understand why and how an author ends up with books that attempt to deconstruct ideas of power but then fail miserably.

This post is about addressing racism within a fantasy storytelling structure.  I’m going to save my discussion about redemptive arcs for racists for another post.

I touched on the idea of dismantling racism within a fantasy setting on twitter earlier this week.  Authors, especially white authors, like to tackle ideas of racism within fantasy settings by creating fake races for the point of view characters to be racist against.  This seems like a good idea in theory, but it is actually harder than just writing fantasy cultures that have a correlation to real world cultures and deconstructing real world racism within a fantasy setting.

Here’s why:

1. You have to teach a reader about the power structures in your fantasy world. And then deconstruct them.  Part of writing fantasy is about teaching a reader how to read your book.  This involves setting up scenes that illustrate the possible outcomes that can exist in your fantasy world.  Can your characters use magic? Great, now you have to show the reader the price of that magic, or the societal ramifications of that magic.  But you also will have to do that for the racism against the made up races within your book.  So creating a made up race creates more work to be done on the page.

2.  You have to be especially careful about how you code your characters.  If you accidentally code a race as a real world race but neglect to deconstruct the power structures of the real world you’ve created a trap of your own making.  If you code a fantasy race as several different real world analogs then that means there are several different cultural expectations you must subvert on the page.  If you don’t address the stereotypes and cultural narratives surrounding the real world people, then you aren’t going to be successful at deconstructing the power structures of your fantasy world on the page. You have to always be actively deconstructing and subverting at least two power structures: the real world one that people understand and expect and the one you’ve built.  Oh, and also worldbuild and have a plot in there somewhere.  That’s a lot of spinning plates to manage.

3.  You can’t erase the real world people of color who actually suffer from racism.  This is a biggie, because one of the reasons authors resort to made up races is to not have to tackle real world racism and expectations of cultural out groups.  But erasing Black people in a book that dissects and deconstructs the ramifications of chattel slavery in a fantasy world where the legacy of chattel slavery is the driving force behind the world’s current power structures is itself kind of racist.  Erasure is it’s own kind of marginalization.  And let’s be honest: if you aren’t comfortable talking about how racism exists in the real world, your fake world racism discussion is going to be shit.

4. Fantasy races like elves and vampires are not human and by their definition are already the other.  So if the recipients of your fake racism are non-human races then as a writer you have to work even harder to show the dehumanization of the people who suffer from racism (or whatever you decide to call the prejudice that is tied to power that takes the place of racism).  And if those people are not human then you are going to have to first humanize those characters, and then show the complexities and nuance of them as a people.  As well as all of the stuff we talked about above.  That is a lot of work.

Bottom line:

Readers will bring real world expectations to your fantasy world.  That means they will also bring real world expectations of power structures to your fantasy world.  That means those expectations will have to be subverted and addressed on the page, along with all of the worldbuilding that is required from writing a fatnasy.   And if you can’t do that in a way that keeps your story moving, your story will fail.

Stay Professional Pt.8

Work AU! Fluff, Angst and Suggestive smut: Jungkook x Reader

Part 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 (Part 9 will be a continuation)

Summary: Jimin walks in on your heated argument with Jungkook. Jimin’s job offer still stands. How the cards unfold is frustrating for both parties. If only someone could swallow their pride and make the first move

A/N: this is a lot of angst.

Panicking, you wiped away your salty tears that rolled endlessly down your cheeks to leave a red tear-stained face. Jungkook opened the door and found himself face to face with Jimin, the last person he had wanted to see.

“What’s wrong? You look tense.” Jimin lips curled into a sly smile.

“What do you want?” Jungkook’s voice was cold, disrespectful and Jimin didn’t like it one bit.

“Is this how you normally talk to your seniors? Looks like I didn’t teach you properly.” He rolled his eyes, letting himself in before stopping his steps at the sight of you in Jungkook’s office. He scanned your flustered expression and turned on his heel to face Jungkook again.

“Am I interrupting something?”

Yes. In fact, you are.” Jungkook’s voice sounded evidently annoyed. He was biting on his tongue to stop himself from speaking his toxic thoughts.

“I-I’ll be taking my leave then, Sir.” You spoke in a quiet voice, the sound of your clacking heels quickly emphasised your goal to escape.

“Wait.” Jimin grabs you by the arm, forcefully making you stop your way out of Jungkook’s office. He took note of your tear-stained face and looked over at Jungkook again- he had his jaw visibly clenched and eyes adverted to the marble floor.

“What happened?” Jimin asked although he had a rough idea of what had occurred- as he had planned for this to happen. Only silence had answered him. Jimin eased his grip on your arm and changed his expression into a more gentle one.

“Tell him Y/N. After all, isn’t he going to be your future employer? After all I did for you, you’re just going to leave me for your own gain.” Jungkook smirked coldly, his gaze pierced through you and your eyes began to water again.

“I-I can’t believe you’d assume the worst of me.” Your voice started to tremble from rage.

“You’re saying that to me? You just said I’m some kind of fuck boy that only hired you to sleep with you.”

“Essentially that’s what you did! And here I was, thinking that we had something genuine! You’re heartless Jungkook!” You raised your voice, at that point you didn’t care that Jimin was there. You needed to tell him these things and that’s exactly what you were planning to do.

“If I wanted someone to fuck I would’ve paid for a prostitute Y/N! You’re just making stupid assumptions with no evidence! Whilst I have evidence on my side! Written evidence, in fact!” Jungkook angrily pulls out the card from before and threw it in Jimin’s direction.

“Jimin told me how you were with girls Jungkook. You used them like how you used me. You played with their feelings and you didn’t give a damn about how they might’ve felt!” Jungkook felt a shot to his pride. Essentially, he knew that was the truth, at least in the past. But this time, he had no intention of doing that to you. You made him feel alive again. Every time he was with you, he felt warm- he wanted to see more sides of you and watch you grow under his guidance. You gave him butterflies that he couldn’t tame.

“And you believe him?” Jungkook gulped, frenzy washed over his face.

“Why wouldn’t I believe him Jungkook? What would you’ve done if I had fucked you and just left the next morning without a proper explanation? You didn’t even specify what the emergency was- of course I’m going to assume the worst of you!” You massaged your burning headache. It had been a long time since you’d cried this much in front of anybody. Unluckily, it just had to be infront of your boss. Another wave of silence hit the office. This time, the atmosphere thicker than before as Jimin stood planted in his spot, carefully observing the chaos laid out in front of him.

“Why are you here Jimin?” Jungkook’s question was straight-forward. He had no patience left to sugarcoat his thoughts.

“I was going to discuss Y/N’s situation with you in person. It appears I might’ve made matters a little difficult for the both of you.” Jimin tried to sound sympathetic but it didn’t work because his emotions were fully detached.

“Yeah you really stirred up shit this time. If this is about your job offer to her go ahead. Not like she’d want to stay with me anyways- she thinks I hired her just to fuck her.” Jungkook growled with rage burning in his stomach. He absolutely hated the idea of you leaving him for Jimin but his dumb mouth didn’t shut up in time.

“I accept your offer Jimin. You’re right, I am a burden to him. In more ways than one so please tell me when I should arrive at your office.” You spoke out, clearly infuriated at Jungkook’s childish behaviour. It was the spur of the moment- but it was a sentence that turned all tables. You didn’t actually plan for this to happen but your lack of professionalism got the best of you.

If he’s going to play stubborn, I’m going to show him how to do it better.

You watched as Jungkook’s eyebrows quickly knitted together after processing your words. Obviously, he wasn’t expecting you to reply so quickly to Jimin’s offer.

“I never said anything about you being a burden.” Jungkook immediately whispered- panic clearly painted on his face as he realised that you were seriously about to leave him.

“Sorry did you want something else? We already fucked you know.” You smirked at him, giving him his signature cold stare back at him. It shut him up completely. Jungkook was at a loss for words- he had just processed the fact that you were in fact, going to leave his side for Jimin’s. And that seemed completely berserk to him.

“Y/N. You’re going to regret this. You’re not in your right mind. Don’t do it.” Jungkook warned, his face suddenly terribly close to your own.

Watch me.”

I’m A Monster (Loki X Vampire!Reader)

You had been on the team for a while. You were already a bit of an oddball so you fit right in. Fury had you on the team since you were agile, fast, but also incredibly strong. You’re not sure but it might have something to do with the fact that you’re a vampire. Because of this, you had a thirst for blood and so Tony had to pay for bags of blood for you. You only needed a shot of blood once a day to function, but Tony didn’t want to run out and then you be in a bad place where your instincts kick in and someone could get hurt.

Because of your lifestyle and everything at came with it, including accidents, lashing out, and being raised as a natural born killer, you had a strong mind. You could catch peoples scent and know a lot about them without them even speaking to you.

Honestly, looking back on it, I think the scene with Ozpin, Ironwood, Glynda, Qrow, and Winter in Ozpin’s office back in It’s Brawl in the Family is probably the single best written scene in RWBY. It unloads a metric fuckton of information without feeling like an infodump. You learn a ton about the relationships between all of these characters, many of which have hardly interacted before, in just the first minute. Just about every line teaches you something new about the politics of the world or between the characters, and responses to other lines are able to reveal completely new information without seeming like non-sequiturs.

To all my teenage and younger followers...

Let me tell you some life lessons I have learned in my 24 years on this Earth.

1. Read the fine print. In every lease agreement, credit card application, and bill. Never take the information in large print as truth. The world is a place full of capitalist greed and people will try to swindle you for every dime you have.

2. A credit card very rarely makes things better. While suddenly having a couple thousand dollars to spend might sound amazing, keep in mind the fact that you’re going to have to pay that back and then some. Never get a card with an annual fee if you can avoid it- because even if you don’t use it, it’ll still cost you.

3. Set up automatic payments. You will forget payments, and that can cost you (literally) a great deal. Set up automatic online payments with reminders so that you know it’s coming up, but don’t have to worry about it.

4. In-Store credit cards are almost always terrible. Sears, Home Depot, Victoria’s Secret- all of them. They are usually packaged with fun deals like “get $50 off this purchase if you’re pre-approved!”. They fail to mention the 25% interest rate, annual fees, and the fact that it can only be used in that store.

5. Keep your receipts. Seriously! Just keep a folder in your car and one in your house and drop every receipt you get in them.  At the end of the month dump them out and go through them. You’ll be amazed at what your spending looks like when it’s splayed out in front of you.  It makes budgeting much easier when you see real numbers. These can also come in handy around tax time- you would be surprised at the things you can write off in certain situations.

6. Learn about income tax. Visit the IRS website and educate yourself! It sounds boring (and it freakin’ is) but in no way does high school prepare you for or teach you about taxes well enough to hold your own in the real world.

7. Claim as little as possible on your W4. When you start a new job, they always give you a W4 to fill out for tax information.  On line 5 of the form, it’ll ask how many allowances you want to claim. Now, claiming yourself may seem like a good idea because you get to keep more money on your paycheck- but it can also come back to bite you at the end of the year.  You may even end up paying in! On that same note, make sure your employer files your tax information correctly. I once ended up paying in $8,000 in taxes because my employer never had the IRS take taxes out of my checks! Whoops!

8. Start a savings fund. No matter how small it is! Even if you just put away $2 a week- it will eventually add up.  If you can, start a savings account that will earn you interest.

9. Save your paystubs! If you plan to buy a car or rent an apartment, they’re going to want to see them.

10. Write down the start and end dates of every job you have. Making a resume and filling out job applications will be much easier with this information.

11. Make a good resume and keep printed copies as well as a digital copy at all times.  There are many excellent resume writing resources online that can help you (heck, I can help you- I used to work in HR!) buff up your resume.  You never know when you might meet someone who can present you with an opportunity!

12. Never be afraid to ask for a raise or promotion.  If you are performing well and meeting or exceeding expectations- ask your supervisor for a raise or change of position that will pay more.  If you are aiming for a promotion, stroke the company’s ego, say something like “I would like the opportunity to prove my worth to the company and further my career with (         ).”

13. Debt collectors do not give up. They are a lot like the Terminator.  If you block their numbers or ignore their calls, they’ll find your family members or show up at your house. This is no joke. I have had hospital bill collectors call roommates, my parents, and even my dad once.  They are relentless and they do not care about your current situation or financial stability. They follow a script and expect you to pay up.  It’s hard not to panic when you get that first collections call- you definitely don’t feel in control of the situation. But remember, debt collectors are actually bound by many restrictions- they are barred from:

-Using abusive or obscene language. -Harassing you with repeated calls.-Calling before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m. unless you agree. -Calling you at work if you have asked them to stop. -Talking to anyone but you or your attorney about the debt. -Misrepresenting the amount of your debt. -Falsely claiming to be an attorney or a law enforcement official. -Falsely claiming to be a credit bureau representative. -Threatening to sue unless they actually plan to take legal action. -Threatening to garnish wages or seize property unless they actually intend to do it.

Always ask for written information on the debt- tell them to send you a paper statement of the debt so that you can look it over and decide what to do. Offer to make payments that are within your financial means- if they try to bully you into making larger ones, tell them you are well aware that they’ve looked into your finances and should know what you are able to afford.

14. Get renters insurance. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!

15. Take inventory of the things you own. If you own electronics, guns, or other expensive items, write down the serial numbers and take pictures of them in your house. That way, if there’s a break in, fire, or flash flood, you have documentation and data to provide to your insurance company.

I’ll add more as I think of them, but here’s a start. It’ll be tagged under “successfully adulting”.

5 Reasons to Educate Yourself on World Politics

Political systems are generally built so that a group of people can develop a set of laws and policies to help them coexist. Understanding the political systems of different countries and how they interact can help you understand where your country fits into the mix, and why your society operates the way it does.

By rejecting ignorance and getting educated on world politics, you’re far better able to determine where you sit on the political compass - are you libertarian or authoritarian? Left or right wing? By understanding the facts you can make educated decisions about what you feel is wrong or right.

By being aware of what happens in the world and understanding what you believe is morally and ethically correct, you’ll be able to recognise injustice when you come across it and use your voice effectively against it. Without an understanding of world politics, you are unaware of and therefore silent about the injustices that occur around the world (Syrian conflict and the resulting refugee crisis, for example). By denying your potential support to victims of injustice, you effectively side with the oppressor.

Learning about world politics will also teach you to recognise when your rights are being violated. By understanding the politics and political interactions of countries and systems of government you are educated enough to protect yourself and your rights no matter where in the world you go, by knowing exactly what you are entitled to - in terms of a country’s government and culture.

By understanding the way different societies operate, it becomes much easier to interact positively and build positive relationships with other countries. Conflict cannot be resolved without understanding. It is through education that young people across the world establish peace and understanding with one another and evolve from citizens of their countries to citizens of the world.

When I make that first big personal connection with a challenging student.

Everything’s A Mess

Characters: Y/N (reader), John Winchester, Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester

Pairing: John x Reader

Warnings: age difference, secrets, another one but that one will be in the tags.

Word Count: 665ish

A/N: I am still in a semi writing hiatus but I threw this little drabble together, since I feel a bit of pressure to finish all my challenge. It came out okay though so here goes. My only ever second John fic so judge kindly.

This is 1 out of my 13 entries for @mamapeterson / @mrs-squirrel-chester’s Album Fanfiction Challenge where I chose the album “Smoke and Mirrors” by Imagine Dragons. The song prompt for this fic is: Dream

Unbetaed - All mistakes are mine.

Once being with John had been an escape. There was a time that he had made you smile and you had made if forget. There was a time when you had been all each other needed. You had wanted to get away from a fake family that ignored all the things, the loss of your sister, made you all aware was hiding in the dark. What had happened to her was ignore and pushed down, but you couldn’t live like that. Not then and not now.

Even if John’s life was no longer one you could stay in either, you couldn’t ignore what you knew was real. Just like you couldn’t ignore the fact that you knew John still missed his dead wife. You could no longer ignore that you felt like his second choice. Someone he could only love because Mary was no longer in this world. You wanted to be someone’s first choice. More than that you wanted to be his first choice, but you also knew that you never would be.

anonymous asked:

how would everyone react if Elizabeth turned into a human

Thanks for the request!

Zen: Would be stunned by her beauty, not even questioning how she turned into a human. Takes a liking to the lady he once called ‘furball’ but still sneezes around her, she still has some traces of being a kitten after all.

Yoosung: Extremely excited to see “the girl in Jumin’s penthouse” because apparently she’s a beauty but it takes him a while to catch on to the fact that she is Elizabeth. When he realised (or is told) he’s shocked and stays in a state of shock until she says something which blows him away.

Jaehee: She would be surprised and start to question just how this happened but to be honest, she’s quite happy due to this chain of events. It means she won’t have to take care of an active kitten anymore and perhaps Elizabeth could teach Mr. Han what emotions and caring for somebody else means.

Jumin: The most shocked from this experience. Woke up one day to see a white haired beauty sitting calmly on his couch, then they stood up with a smile and gave him a big hug. Immediately informs the RFA of the situation while Elizabeth cuddles up to his side. He tries to find a way to turn her back into a kitten because her human form is quite emotionally taxing for poor Jumin, it’s too much for him to handle.

707: Would be absolutely elated and would want to talk to her all the time. Would still call her Elly and would play around with her, teaching her all the good things about the world like how you can eat all you want at a sushi place if you go at the right time or the fact that there are sales every Friday night at the supermarket. You can count on Seven to teach her useless information. Jumin still wouldn’t let him near Elizabeth.

V: Would be overjoyed that the little kitten he named was now a human. He would question it a bit however he’s just overwhelmed with emotion as the girl begins to talk to him. Would hope that now that she is a human, he can keep Jumin proper company and teach him a few things about empathy.

Saeran: Absolutely confused about the situation. Tries to think of reasons how this happened however nothing comes to mind. He tries to avoid Elizabeth as much as he can saying that “something is weird” but just her smile is enough to convince Saeran that she’s worth talking to at least.

So I was thinking about this moment in “Ides of March” when Gabrielle was talking to Xena all about how She saved her:

“Xena, you’ve brought out the best in me… Before I met you, no one saw me for who I was. I felt… Invisible. But you saw all the things I could be. You saved me Xena.”

Now, let’s all look back at who Gabrielle was in episode 1 when we first met her. She seemed so optimistic, this doe-eyed young woman who was excited to go on this adventure with Xena; “teach me everything you know!” She seemed so innocently positive about the world, naive even.

Yet, in Ides of March, Gabrielle describes her life back then as empty, hollow… She felt completely invisible. No one even knew who she really was on the inside.

As someone who suffers with depression and anxiety, God do I relate to this. Feeling completely awful on the inside but having this veneer of fake happiness around me so that people wouldn’t be able to tell that I was dying inside. I can’t possibly trust anyone to actually see the person I am… What if they think I’m weak? Or that I’m not worth their time? With a bubbly facade, I can be well liked right?

“That’s what we all dream about isn’t it? Someone that looks so deeply into our soul that they’d find something worth dying for.”

Gabrielle, a soul in turmoil, crying out for a hero… Someone to see her for who she was, and accept everything about her, the darkness and light. The good and the bad.

Maybe someday, we will all find that too.

As a (non visual but the same concept still applies) artist myself I feel like the bane of art schools who put through incredibly skilled students is that they never bother telling these students that skill and charisma aren’t everything in the real world.

Skill gets you far. Obviously. But unless you’re an independent contractor (and even then….) You are going to be at the whim of the art INDUSTRY. And the industry doesn’t give a single shit about skill. It cares about content. Content that is made either with or without skill, doesn’t matter.

Sometimes the industry loosens it’s reigns and allows art made with great skill to flourish, and this is where all of our favorite series come from. Under the right conditions, something truly great can be made and in those circumstances, the skill and charisma of the artist shine through above all else.

BUT then there’s other things, what many people call “”“unskilled”“” art. The industry likes this so much more because it can be produced FAST. Generic pop music, bad, off-model cartoons, pop-art hanging in hobby lobby, all of that shit absolutely rakes in dough for the industry people and keeps the “”“unskilled”“” artists who work on that in a job. Often times, skilled artists have to dumb down their faculties to work on this stuff and not at their full potential or on projects they want to work on.

This is the real world. College doesn’t teach you SHIT about it. They act like people will grovel at your feet if you’re a virtuoso in your field and that is such a big fallacy that I can’t believe industry professionals continue to teach it.

Hey could you do "being Harry Potter's twin/younger sibling would include"?

(Yes, more headcanons, I haven’t gotten requests for stuff like this in so long. This one was so fun to do and I’d love to continue it as a through-the-years-at-Hogwarts sort of thing but it was already starting to get really long so if you guys wanna see more than drop me a link and maybe I’ll make a mini-series of it or something!)

-You’re only a little bit younger than he is, like a tiny bit less than a year

-When Voldemort attacked your home, you were staying overnight at the hospital with a bad fever

-The doctors had just convinced James and Lily to go back home, assuring that they would call if anything came to light

-After the attack, Hagrid rescued Harry from the ruins and McGonagall retrieved you from the hospital

-Both of you were left with the Dursleys, despite McGonagall’s protest

-McGonagall offered to take you in herself since the prophecy did not apply to you but Dumbledore argued against separating you from Harry

-The Dursleys didn’t take much of a liking to either of you, though Dudley mostly ignores you

-You and Harry being closer than most siblings

-Having to share the cupboard under the stairs and the same bed until the Dursleys let you both live in the spare room upstairs and give you a mattress on the floor to sleep on

-Always trying to get each other little gifts on holidays or birthdays because you want to make it special, no matter what the Dursleys do (or rather, don’t do)

-You either buying or baking a cupcake for Harry on his birthday as soon as you know how and trying your hardest to find at least one candle for it

-Being in the same year at school

-Harry being protective of you at school and making sure the bullies don’t harass you too much, even if it gets him into trouble

-Not really knowing all the things Harry does for you when you’re really little like giving you his piece of toast or slice of grapefruit so you have enough to eat or giving you his blanket so you’re warm enough

-You cuddling Harry whenever he has nightmares about the attack, though neither of you understand that he’s actually remembering a real event

-When you’re really little you keep drawing lightning bolts on your forehead because you want to be just like your big brother

-Hagrid taking both of you to Diagon Alley and teaching you about the Wizarding World

-You not really knowing how to react when people approach Harry and call him the Boy Who Lived

-They know about you too but you don’t have the scar and you’re not the Boy Who Lived

-A first being amazed and super proud of your brother because you always knew he was special no matter what the Dursleys told you

-Eventually getting tired of the hype and a little bit jealous once the excitement starts to wear off because you want to be special too

-Eventually feeling like you’re constantly in Harry’s shadow and, though you try to be supportive, it’s still hard sometimes

-Being amazed by everything you see and a little bit overwhelmed but it’s made easier by having Harry with you through it all

-Quickly taking a disliking to Draco when you see him in the robe shop because if your big brother doesn’t like him then you don’t either

-Even though it’s not your birthday, Hagrid gets presents for you too and buys you an owl

-Hagrid treating you like you’re just as special as Harry because you’re a Potter too

-Getting your wand and your books and school supplies

-Both you and Harry being so happy to be rid of the Dursleys, if only for a little while

-Trying to learn everything you can about Hogwarts before you get there and your excitement making dealing with the Dursleys bearable

-Being really reluctant to run at the pillar on the platform even after Harry and the Weasleys went before you

-Mrs. Weasley reassuring you that it’s completely safe and you immediately taking a liking to her because hardly anyone’s been that nice to you before

-Sitting with Harry on the train and being so nervous and excited that you can hardly speak because you’re both special and you know that you’re heading towards a new life full of magic and wonder with the best big brother you could ever wish for

I just watched Tangled again and I want to say how much I love Rapunzel and Eugene’s relationship.

  • For most of the movie romance isn’t really a thing. They’re both independently focused on their dreams and unexpectedly fall in love the more they get to know each other.
  • Eugene quit trying to seduce and romance Rapunzel after the first time in the tower. Everything nice he did after that was because he wanted her to be happy or because it was better for her.
  • Eugene agreed to help Rapunzel to get the crown back instead of overpowering her and making her tell him.
  • Even though he’s kind of forced to go along with her he tries to teach her about the world.
  • You can see Eugene falling in love with Rapunzel because she’s confident and independent and imaginative and once they’re together he doesn’t try to change that.
  • Rapunzel doesn’t give up on her dream as soon as she develops feelings for Eugene.
  • She doesn’t act on her feelings for him until she’s sure he doesn’t just want to be around her because he wants something.
  • They both get multiple chances to be the hero for each other.

In short, they’re awesome.

Hellfire - Part 1

Summary: Dean and Y/N meet in hell, befriending each other, trying to hold onto their humanity. What happens when Dean gets saved and Y/N doesn’t?

Pairing: Dean x reader

Word Count: 2158

Warnings: Angst, torture, violence, ya know, things that happen in Hell

A/N: This series would not have happened if it weren’t for @impala-dreamer. She beta’d this whole thing, listened to me whine about it, and made this kick ass aesthetic for it!

The smell of rotting flesh overwhelmed your senses. You were tied down to the smooth metal table, most of your skin exposed to the air. The room you were in was the same one you were always in. Nothing changed about this room except the ways you were tortured. The walls were made of dark stone with torches on either side of the heavy metal door, casting a dim light into the room. On the wall to your left, there hung all of the tools Alastair used to torture you.

The pain was excruciating, every nerve ending in your body was on fire. Your eyes burned from the tears as they continued to stream down your face. Your body was damp with perspiration and tears. You were fully awake at this point, the man’s screams next to you were too much to bear so you called out, “Alright Alastair, I’m awake you asshole.”

The large metal door pushed open with a creak; Alastair appearing from the shadows, “Have you had enough Y/N?”

“Bite me,” you gritted through your teeth.

Alastair treaded over to you, his heavy boots making a thud with every step, “Don’t tempt me, I will bring the hellhounds back in here.”

The Best Kind of Love (Bucky Barnes X Reader)

It crept up slowly while I was unaware, and I think that’s the best kind of love. When it’s so natural you didn’t even notice.”

You couldn’t remember exactly how you and Bucky became friends, it just kind of happened. You were originally a good friend of Sam’s, and you had a room in the tower because you had no other family, except for Sam (though he isn’t related to you, he was like the older brother you never had but always wanted.)

Living in the tower allowed you to create strong friendships with the rest of the Avengers, and within a year of you living there, you were close friends with each and every one of them. Most notably, Bucky Barnes. You would call him your best friend beside Sam. He was the one you could joke around with, the one you would teach about the modern world as he would teach you about how things used to be. You both taught each other a lot of things about a lot of topics, and you would say you bettered each other as people.

What you liked most, though, was that Bucky was comfortable around you. He would come to you about his nightmares, about his fears and insecurities, practically about anything and everything. You also trusted him with practically everything, even your most private thoughts and feelings.

Even so, the other Avengers saw something the two of you didn’t see. All of them could tell that the both of you were totally and completely in love with each other. The way you two looked at each other, interacted with each other, anything- extended beyond that of even the closest friend.

It was a cloudy, slow morning, and all of the Avengers felt it. Everyone was being lazy, sitting around doing this and that. You decided you wanted to sleep in, so by the time you managed to shuffle your nearly lifeless form out into the kitchen, everyone else was awake. You yawned, pouring a cup of tea for yourself (you were never really one for coffee), and settled on one of the stools, sipping the beverage steadily.

“Well, look who’s awake,” a voice startled you out of your exhausted trance. You turned around to see Steve smiling at you. You tried to return the gesture but you were sure it looked more like a grimace.

“Hey Steve,” you mumbled, sipping on the tea yet again.

“Well, I hope you wake up sooner or later. We’ve got a formal ‘Gala’ tonight, and we all want you to come,” Steve said, putting air quotes around ‘Gala’. Much like you and Bucky, Steve hated the formal parties that the Avengers had to go to. Thus why he forced you to go to every single one of them.

“Yippee,” you deadpanned, causing Steve to laugh as he exited the kitchen.

Night had fallen and the Gala was starting soon. Bucky, Steve, Tony, and Sam all headed over before you, so you were going to head over with Natasha and Wanda.

“I hate these types of things,” you complained to Nat as you finished up your make up. The last thing you needed to do was put on your dress.

“Yeah, me neither, but it’s all for the image, you know?” Nat laughed, finishing off with an exhausted sigh. You stood up from the vanity table and went to where your dress was laid out on the bed. You slipped it on, and looked in the mirror. The dress was a deep red and had twinkling little sparkles that looked like stars throughout it. To top it off, it had a plunging v-neck that made everything look that much more sophisticated.

“Man, all the boys are gonna be all over you tonight,” Nat joked when she saw you. You turned around to see her in an elegant gray dress.

“Same to you, Romanov. Let’s get going,” and with that, you got Wanda and headed out.

The venue was really stuffy and snobby looking. Immediately, you didn’t want to be there, but you also didn’t want to waste this dress. The three of you girls walked in,and your eyes searched for the boys, until you found them at a table to the right.

You were about halfway over to the table when you caught their attention. When Bucky saw you, his jaw dropped. You looked absolutely flawless in your dress, and he couldn’t seem to look away.

“Wow, (Y/N), you look…beautiful,” Bucky breathed once you got to him, causing you to blush a red that matched your dress.

“Thank you, Mr.Barnes. You’re not so bad yourself,” you replied, giving a sly wink. He chuckled and stood up, pulling out the chair next to him for you to sit.

You happily obliged, sitting and greeting the rest of the avengers. Steve had this stupid grin on his face, and when you questioned him about it, he just laughed and shook his head.

A couple of hours past, the group of you all sat and talked, and genuinely enjoyed yourselves. You turned to tell Bucky something and saw he was always staring at you, a small smile playing on his lips.

“What?” you asked, smiling as well. You noticed how his eyes sparkled in the golden glow of the chandeliers, and how he looked so different (not better, but not worse) with a clean-shaven face and shorter hair. He looked like the way you imagined him back in the forties, which made you smile just a bit more.

“It’s nothing,” he said, looking down at the ground, still smiling.

“No, really, it’s got to be something,” you teased, leaning your head in the palm of your hand.

“It’s just- you look so gorgeous tonight, I swear I could’ve mistaken you for a princess,” he said, looking into your eyes with a flirtatious little grin. You blushed deeper than you think you ever have.

“Well, thank you yet again, Barnes. When I’m with you, I certainly feel like a princess,” you responded, and it was his turn to become bashful. It was that moment, you think, that you realized you’ve been in love with James Buchanan Barnes for a long, long time.

a/n: yikes i don’t like this one but I hope you do?? (lol @ my one follower)
