tbh this is the best book

anonymous asked:

Hey there! I've been studying german for quite some time now, but I'm still struggling to get into it, learn it better and actually enjoy it. Could you recommend me some good tv shows, podcasts, films and books, cause those really helped me while learning English?💕💕

Some German books that I love a lot are Schachnovelle by Stefan Zweig and Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse but I’m not sure if those are the best books to learn German with haha 😅
I sound super lame saying this but I don’t really listen to any German podcasts or watch German TV shows and I’m not really into German movies either tbh 😬but there is one fantastic film that comes to my mind and that is Toni Erdmann by Maren Ade.
However, the good thing is that there are TONS of German dubbed films and TV shows out there. Just try and watch your favourite movies in German instead of your mother tongue for a change!

Sorry for this super late and not so informative reply. I hope other people will be of more help. I know that German isn’t the easiest language but keep it up and have fun 😘

i am forcibly removed from the drag strip

tbh the fact that crime fiction, thrillers, and horror are my top 3 favorite book genres is one of the main reasons i could never buy into that anti bullshit like

y'all don’t understand how extremely difficult it is to take someone telling you that “you’re evil for reading/writing this fanfic with these subjects in it and normal people would be horrified if they knew” seriously when you’ve spent years reading published books that have been on multiple best sellers list, that have sold tens of millions of copies, that contain subject matter that’s not only identical to but often worse than what is in the fanfic y'all complain about – and when you see the authors of these books discussing them and being praised for their writing on talk shows and in magazines, when your teachers and librarian and even the little old church ladies you volunteer with are all fans, and when most of the wide world outside of tumblr sees nothing wrong with these books or the fact that you enjoy reading them.

“normal people would be horrified” is not my experience. most “normal people” tend to be into the same genres i am or at least non-judgmental about what i’m reading. “normal people” strike up conversations with me at the counter at the library about the fucked up books i’m reading and ask me if i’ve read some other book by that author or tell me “if you like their books, you should try out this other author’s books”. “normal people” are what comprise the majority of the members of every book club or reading group i’m in, who have never heard of tumblr dot com or anti discourse, but who have read the entire flowers in the attic series and every damn thing stephen king has ever written along with me and either enjoyed it or managed to dislike it without personally attacking and dehumanizing people who felt differently.

the way antis behave/think is not how most “normal people” behave/think outside of tumblr when it comes to the reading habits of other people.

Shuri being your best friend would include…

  • So you might be a little skeptical about Shuri bc she’s young and she’s LEGIT a real princess but throw all your prejudice overboard, Shuri is pretty much the coolest person you can be friends with.
  • I mean come on, in her presence the authorities let almost everything slide. She’s their favorite (as expected).
  • Her mother basically things she’s lowkey has a bad influence on you (not bad but y’all rebels, actually you as small kids were 1000% worse).
  • T’Chaka actually loves that his daughter has found such a good friend bc not every one has friendly intentions towards such a talented princess. He always used to smile bc it made him so happy…and he’d have given you sweets all the time so you pretty much loved him.
  • Okay, uhm I’m pretty sure she’d insist that you get the same education as she does. So y’all basically friends since forever.
  • You grew up together, you trained together & studied together, fought and cried together and had the fcking best childhood ever.
  • Tbh, you’re basically ying and yang: she’s all about Science and you’re more of the literature (and more of the combat/physical type).
  • She always helped you to pass Science and you update her on all the new books and such.
  • But one thing you share: fangirling over the Avengers and basically rooting for T’Challa (who is basically like your brother) to be part of the team. Probably bc you both want to be Avengers too. lol same *cries*
  • Your conversations are probably mostly one bad joke after another, annoying ALL the people in the palace and even making the guards laugh.
  • You’d probably be making a secret competition on who can make the most boys fall for you and then who is the best in breaking their heart lol (not in a mean way, okay?!)
  • Oh and let me tell you: together, you’re the worst! T’Challa absolutely hates that you always, literally always prank him. Like really. All the time.
  • But what would be the best: secret sleepovers in her lab, the vibranium an extraordinary sky full of stars and telling each other secrets and stories you’ve never told before.
  • She’d be the one to also talk you out of weird crushes and be always successful to lighten your mood when you’re sad.
  • You’d always be there for her too, especially when her father died you cried with her and kept her company, sleeping in her bed and making her tea and trying the best to keep her mood up.
  • It’d just be the best thing!!!

A/N: I cannot wait to see her in Infinity War and omg can I have her?!

I’m here to introduce you to the best graphic novel I’ve ever read

Let’s start off with Sebastian, the genderfluid protagonist.

Prince Sebastian by day

Lady Crystallia by night

He hires Frances to be his personal seamstress

It talks about important topics such as Sebastian’s fluidity and toxic masculinity and the idea boys can’t be feminine.

With some funny moments

Some enlightening and romantic

It’s a truly wonderful book, please go read The Prince and the Dressmaker

Popular YA books and are they worth reading: my opinion

yea im just going to get into it

Harry Potter: Overall good books. They do have plotholes and lack representation, but have a great fandom that makes up for it. A great intro to magic and fantasy for the younger end of the YA spectrum.

Overall verdict: ignore the cursed child and you’ll be fine

The Hunger Games: I thought these were really interesting books. They deal with political themes that are really important to be aware of. After reading these books I would sit in class and figure out how I would kill all of my classmates in our own hunger games.

Overall verdict: heck yeck

The Fault in Our Stars: Pretentious and kind of hard to read, but not that bad. Pretty basic and predictable but still entertaining. The Anne Frank kiss was yikes.

Overall verdict: each to their own. read some reviews before picking it up

Twilight: Not as bad as everyone says it is, but still pretty bad. Really creepy and also pretty damn racist. Has some interesting side characters. I never read past the first book so I don’t know that much.

Overall verdict: there are better books to spend your time on

The Mortal Instruments: Not outrageously bad, but not Oscar worthy. It’s kind of just there. Characters are pretty cliché, and some very unnerving themes are included, the YA Game of Thrones when it comes to incest.

Overall verdict: Read her other series; they’re much better.

Divergent: fun enough. the first book is the best. very confusing and full of plot holes. not that memorable tbh.

Overall verdict: just read the hunger games

13 Reasons Why:

Overall verdict: don’t

The Maze Runner: the first book is decent. it’s an interesting concept and an entertaining read. beware of an overabundance of boys.

Overall verdict: go ahead, just don’t touch the sequels

Six of Crows: world can be a bit confusing at first if you haven’t read the grisha trilogy, but you pick it up pretty quickly. well developed characters, world, and plot.

Overall verdict: hell yeah

Throne of Glass: starts off pretty basic, but decent. gets less decent as it progresses. beware barfing, toxic masculinity, graphic sex, and killing of minorities.

Overall verdict: i genuinely have no idea what demographic this series is for

Red Queen: more into the political aspect, not that much action. glass sword is the low point. improves a lot in the last two books. iffy lgbt rep. Maven Calore carries the entire series on his back.

Overall verdict: it’s not for everyone, but give it a fair try

The Lunar Chronicles: pretty enjoyable. i like the twists on the fairytales. the characters work well together and carry the *pretty simple* plot well. beware possible racism? idk i don’t really remember i was like eleven.

Overall verdict: yeah sure why not.

Anything by Rick Riordan: i haven’t read his more recent stuff (think past heroes of Olympus), but i’ve heard good things. the books are fun, and overall really good. i think they’re meant for a younger demographic but i’m not entirely sure.

Overall verdict: please at least read percy’s retellings of greek mythology

do you have writing advice? i feel like i hate everything i write

read read read read read until you’re swollen with words. read advice from every author you love and read advice from every author you hate and read advice from the monster under your bed and read grammar books and read books from the black mountain poets and read books from modern poets and read self-published novels.

and once you’re filled up on ideas other people have given you, ignore everything you just were told and write what you want to read. if you’re absolutely in love with the luminous quality of alliteration, use it. if you’re amazed by the ability of adverbs to astonishingly and quickly multiply, flood your page with them. if you want to let every character die and come back to life, let them. if nobody dies and it’s 500 pages of people in a tea parlor talking, you just wrote a longer version of “no exit” by jean paul sarte and tbh it’s looking for an update.

the reason i end up hating my work is twofold. either i’m stuck and it’s just a writing block and it doesn’t flow like it needs to, or i’m stuck because i’m too worried about perfection. i need a passage to ring perfect, and i get so caught up in silly things like commas and splicing and never using “said” that i can’t put anything down without feeling like i’m slogging through letters. i forget that the best part of writing a book is how fun it is to write a book. how caught up i get in the story, how sometimes i can even make myself laugh with surprise.

write because you want to hear yourself tell the story. write with a good sense of humor, honestly. i’ve written five novels, and while they’re not for publishing, they were for fun. we forget not everything has to be marketable and serious. that the best part of writing is when you evaporate and everything becomes story.

and when you’re just blocked? go back to the first part of this. and read.
