I had promised a KiriBaku kid something like months ago, and tbh most of the reason why it took me this long is because I couldn’t pick between these two so?? In the end just have them both I guess - some info about them under cut, in case you wanna know more!!

anonymous asked:

what about the stairs in the forests!!! and what doc were you watching and would you recommend?

ok so I DON’T BELIEVE IN THE STAIRS IN THE FORESTS! mainly because I’m A Search and Rescue Officer for the U.S. Forest Service, and I Have Some Stories to Tell a) is posted on /r/nosleep so it’s definitely made up, b) the op admits to knowing about David Paulides, and lbr knowing about = being influenced by, so it’s definitely made up, and c) if you read all the way through to the end it stops being even vaguely believable and starts reading like a WTNV transcript, and then he plugs his book, so it’s DEFINITELY MADE UP. however, it is an amazing (read: terrifying) thread, some of it is obviously based on truths/insider SAR knowledge which means a lot of it is probably uncomfortably close to actually being true, and it’s a good Gateway Read into MISSING PEOPLE IN NATIONAL PARKS CONSPIRACY THEORIES, which is where I live now. (plus, if you read this before getting into anything else it imbues every single missing persons case with an unsettling sense of Eldritch horror, which is why I had to turn on three overheads and unfocus my eyes all the way to the bathroom last night at 2am.)

so yeah, after reading that /r/nosleep thing for the first time I drew a line under it and moved on until SOMEONE (ahem@roundtop) sent me a link to an article called How 1,600 People Went Missing from Our Public Lands Without a Trace (on a legit and sensible outdoorsy people website), like ‘haha, stairs in the forest!’ and I SWAN DIVED DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE. thus: the documentary-watching, staying up till 2am and spending all day today trying to find copies of David Paulides’ books for less than $80 inc. postage.

THIS DUDE DAVID PAULIDES. he was in law enforcement before, for some reason, deciding to become a ~*~cryptozoologist~*~ and certified gung-ho Bigfoot conspiracy theorist, and through that found out about how many people had disappeared without a trace from National Parks in the U.S., did 7,000 hours worth of digging, and wrote a bunch of books about it. his books are called Missing 411 and are about the ridiculous number of people who go missing in National Parks, the usually weird circumstances around their disappearances, the fact that when people are found (dead or alive) it’s often in places miles and miles and sometimes waaaaay higher up mountains than where they disappeared from, and all sorts of creepy crap to boot. like they can’t get bloodhounds to find a scent, or they find tiny children miles away from where they got lost, barefoot, without a scratch on the soles of their feet, human remains being found years later in places that were search dozens and dozens of times. not to mention the National Parks… People (? I really don’t know enough to be making this post) are aware of what’s happening but don’t keep a list of the people who’ve gone missing on their lands.

(which is all part of why I’m A Search and Rescue Officer for the U.S. Forest Service is so freaky – enough of it (people being found miles away, kids being found up mountains, the people in charge being cagey about it all) sounds real that you can believe it was actually written by a SAR Officer. heebies!)

it’s all real nightmare fuel, if you’re the sort of person who is absolutely terrified by all this Scary Forest Disappearing People Unexplainable Deaths stuff, i.e. me. luckily I can’t afford to buy any of them! phew! however, I haven’t let that stop me from a) SCARING MYSELF SHITLESS and b) BECOMING A TIN HATTER, and it shouldn’t stop you either: you can read loads of stuff over at /r/missing411, listen to one of his initial interviews (in which he talks about how he was approached by two park employees in plain clothes who were like ‘please investigate this, there’s SOMETHING going on and it’s so goddamn weird’) on Coast to Coast AM (which is, like, a paranormal radio station… I’m sorry), watch a bunch of Paulides’/CanAm Missing Project’s vids about disappearances on youtube, and listen to hours worth of interviews and late night spooky radio/podcast discussions with Paulides.

the documentary I thought I was watching was Missing 411, which is based on his books and Kickstarted by the public in 2015, but it turns out that they’re apparently shopping it around at festivals so it’s not out yet. what I was actually watching (and quickly abandoned) was a weird supercut of all of David Paulides’ tv interviews and some cryptozoologist chatter about Bigfoot. Paulides, god love him, never ever SAYS Bigfoot in any of his books, and everything he presents is 100% factually accurate and extensively researched, but… I think we can safely say he thinks it’s Bigfoot. tbh, after reading about Jaryd Atadero I think it’s Bigfoot. I mean, goddamn.

so, yeah. I’ve finished reading every search and rescue story on this blog (Hunt for the Death Valley Germans is LONG but awesome), I’ve got West of Memphis ready to watch after work tomorrow because I remembered how much I love that case and spooky true crime things, if you have any related LINKS or STUFF about This Shit then REBLOG THIS/MSG ME AND TELL ME, or if you have a copy of a Missing 411 book you wouldn’t mind mailing to me then LET ME KNOW, and in conclusion I can’t believe America is so fucking huge and unkind, goodnight.

Moriel Meta - in which Moriel is actually a healthy and respectful relationship, who knew?

I dislike the ‘Mor has to fix the Cass/Az/Mor situation/Mor should just talk to Azriel about everything/Mor has to be the one to change things and convince Az that he’s worthy of her’ for a number of reasons, most of which I’ve whinged about before (largely that it’s…kind of gross that all the emotional responsibility for this triangle is placed on..the only female character involved in it which is…deeply unfair) but apart from that I think it just shows a lack of understanding as to these characters and how they work and why Mor hasn’t said anything after all this time?

And people say she should just get on with it and she should just say something and stop all of this but…I don’t think they consider the more problematic aspects of that? Azriel is in love with her and has been for a very long time and she knows this. I think that…In a way if she confronts him about it it’s like telling him that he has to be with her now. She puts him on the spot and forces him to approach a subject that she knows he’s not ready for

“So if he were ever interested would you … ?”
“The issue, actually, wouldn’t be me. It’d be him. I could peel off my clothes right in front of him and he wouldn’t move an inch. He might have defied and proved those Illyrian pricks wrong at every turn, but it won’t matter if Rhys makes him Prince of Velaris—he’ll see himself as a bastard-born nobody, and not good enough for anyone. Especially me.”

This scene has been approached in a whole host of different ways from people thinking that Mor is flat out wrong to assuming that this has happened before and she knows this from past experience but…I always just kind of read it as it was written. Az doesn’t think he’s good enough for her. It doesn’t matter what she does. It doesn’t matter if she tells him that she wants him. It doesn’t matter if she peels her clothes off and offers him every inch of her. This isn’t a question of want. It never has been. The problem isn’t desire, it’s not even love, it’s worth.

We’re talking about the person that Mor spent four hundred years convincing it was okay to take a break from work every now and then and go to a club. We’re told Az’s dedication to his work and the lengths he push himself to border on sadistic. This is not someone who takes what they want. This is someone who struggles hugely with self-esteem and self-worth. This is someone who was locked in the dark as a child and set on fire by his brothers as a game because he was that disposable and that insignificant and had that little value. This is someone who is terrified of ever being in that position again and who therefore works ceaselessly and denies himself the things that he wants, even small things like rest or leisure time, because he cannot let himself not be useful again for even a moment because what if they lock him away again because he doesn’t matter?

So, fine, let’s say Mor does what everyone says she should do. She goes to Az, tells him how she feels, tells him how she knows he feels, tells him what she wants, puts him on the spot, forces him to do something about it. Either: he does as Mor (who’s known and loved him for 500 years) believes and simply does nothing, freezes up, doesn’t move, doesn’t act. Or, okay, maybe he gives in to her because this is the woman that he loves, you know? The woman he’s devoted to. The woman he would look up from a pool of his own blood and snarl at the king who controls the poison running through his veins in order to protect. So maybe he yields. Maybe he says okay. Maybe he accepts her because well this is what she wants.

For a start that…Doesn’t change anything? Mor going to him and telling him she loves him and wants him and peeling her clothes off in front of him isn’t going to change a damn thing. Rhys making him prince of Velaris isn’t going to change a damn thing. There is nothing that can be done externally to change Az. (And Mor is not under obligation to change him just because she’s a prospective partner that’s a seriously damaged way of thinking too) Az has to change Az. Az has to decide within himself that this relationship is something that he wants, something that will be good for him (and Mor), something that he deserves, something that he can have. Mor cannot do that for him.

You can’t fix someone’s insecurities just by telling them that you love them/want them? That’s…Not the way this works, especially not for someone like Az where it’s such a deep rooted thing. This is something that he has to work himself through and in the meantime Mor (and Cassian who is…in this almost entirely for Az) will make damn sure that he has the time and space that he needs. However much of it that might be.

And for a second thing her doing that would be…really unhealthy? Think about it. She’s essentially going up to this insecure, damaged person who’s deeply in love with her and saying: right, I love you, I’m tired of waiting, I’m making an executive decision here, one that isn’t really mine to make (it’s not Mor’s decision/up to Mor to say when Az is ready) and I’m telling you we’re doing this. That’s…Not okay? Like that’s borderline emotionally manipulative? She knows how Az feels. She confronts him about it and she uses that to get what she wants? And it’d be damaging for him. No matter how much he wants this. He. Is. Not. Ready. For. This. Relationship.

And so many people call Mor out for this? As though it’s her fault? As though it’s a bad thing that she respects his boundaries, respects his insecurities, doesn’t try and force him to change for her because it would give her what she wants? She waits for him. She has waited five hundred years for this man to be ready. She has never pushed him. She has never pressured him. She never will.

Because this is Mor. And is it really so difficult to understand why Mor, who suffered horrendous abuse of her own as a child, which shapes her just as much as it shapes Az, would wait? Is it so difficult to imagine her refusing to put Az on the spot and pressure him and control him the way she was controlled? Because oh well everyone around you expects you to do this so you should.

Is it really difficult to imagine her refusing to tell Az who he should love and when he should be with them even though he’s not ready? The way her family told her that she should be with a prince of the Autumn Court, even though she wasn’t ready and didn’t want that?

Is it really so difficult to imagine Mor, who spent her early life being broken by the demands and expectations and pressures of others - her family, those who were supposed to be closest to her, love her, protect her- refusing to put similar demands or expectations or pressures on another? Especially someone she loves so much.

Is it really so difficult to imagine Mor, who was shown so little respect that once she was no longer of use or value she was treated like an animal and cast out to die, to be someone else’s problem, would be able to muster up enough respect to let the person she loves so much make their own choices in life? The things that were denied her?

Is it so difficult to imagine that Mor wants to allow Az a choice? That she feels he should be allowed to choose what he is ready for? And not have her decide for him? Not have her step up to him and say, this is what’s best for you, this is what you want, this is what I’m deciding that you should have?

Is it really an indication that Mor doesn’t love him that she waits? That she’s waited for five hundred years. That’d she’d likely wait the same again, that she’d likely die before feeling like she’d forced him into a relationship with her because she decided that it was time and he was ready and that this was what was best? And therefore that gave her the right to strip away his choices because she knows what’s best?

Is it really such a terrible thing for one partner to actually respect the other, their history, their situation, their insecurities and understand that they can’t just make these disappear with ~the power of love~ because that’s not the way that mental health works? And that maybe the best thing they can do is not put any extra pressure onto them and give them time and space and support to work through things in their own time and way?

And is it really so difficult to believe that this is actually the healthiest and best thing that Mor could do both for Azriel and her relationship with him? And that anything else is unfairly pressuring him and manipulating him and forcing him into accepting something that he himself isn’t ready for? And that an emotional abuse victim doesn’t want to emotionally abuse the person that they love? And that that really isn’t a bad thing, you know; that anything else would be toxic and one-sided and selfish and unfair?

Is it?

TL;DR: Mor is actually capable of respecting Azriel and demonstrates her love for him through that respect in allowing him space, time and a choice in his own life and the relationships he feels ready to pursue. Her keeping her distance from Azriel, the man she loves, for over five centuries is selfless af and I am tired of seeing it twisted around to make her appear to be the opposite. She’s actually dealing with this situation in the best, healthiest way possible and if you’ve got an alternative to what’s happening that doesn’t involve a fukc tonne of coercion and emotional manipulation backing Az into a corner and forcing him to deal with something he’s not ready to face I’d love to hear it :)

i don’t see how anyone is surprised that marlene killed yvonne so spoby could happen. it was pretty fucking obvious that she wasn’t going to stick around from the start. it’s rushed, it’s shitty writing, it’s problematic as hell, and yvonne and spoby both deserved a far better resolution.

But come on, this is the writing team that decided romance was having caleb and spencer fall in love for half a season only for caleb to cheat on her with hanna and then claim he’s loved hanna all along, who are still romanticizing a teacher/student relationship that, even looking past all it’s other transgressions, continues to be boring af, who think the best way to put emily and alison together, the slowburn ship to end all slowburn ships who would have had no trouble being brought together naturally, is to introduce two other girls for emily and then inject emily’s eggs into alison in a complete and utter violation of both girls bodies.

like, did you expect better from the writers? really? if you didn’t see this coming i don’t know what to tell you.

Shatt Angst Train™

I’m just kinda imagining Shiro being Ultra Guilty about not being able to find Matt after his escape, and feeling really bad about injuring him and then never seeing him again. Shiro probably gets really worried that Matt will hate him and he can’t really remember much so hurting Matt is really most of what he remembers of Matt during their time in the Galra prison. Meanwhile, Matt probably knows that Shiro feels bad, probably thinks about how Shiro will remember hurting him, how Shiro will feel guilty and Matt wants to tell him that he’s ok, that he’s not mad, but he can’t and it’s killing him.

  •         Shiro tries to cling as much as he can to the bits of Matt he can remember, and he wants to remember it all because he knows he might never see Matt again. Sometimes if he’s walking to his room late at night he’ll hear quiet sobs coming from Pidge’s room. Shiro knows that it’s all his fault. If he’d only been better, or smarter, he could have done something. He should have tried harder and he shouldn’t have been so impulsive. And now the image of Matt’s terrified face after he attacked him is burned into his memory.

  •     Sometimes Matt wonders whether Shiro is dead and if he does get free, if he’ll ever see Shiro again. And then, suddenly, all Matt can see is Shiro’s pained face as he whispers “Take care of your father,” as he gets dragged away to fight.  Oh god, how Matt hopes Shiro got away somehow, but he knows in his heart that Shiro might have died even moments after he was taken away from the arena.

  •    Sometimes, when he can catch a glimpse of the stars from inside the prison, Matt will look out and wonder if Shiro really did make it out. He’ll wonder if Shiro is out there somewhere, or if he’s back on earth, and then, at the thought of Shiro back on earth, he realizes Shiro doesn’t know if he’s alive either. All he can imagine is Shiro having to explain to his mother and Katie, having to explain “I don’t know what happened to Matt,” and that’s when Matt vows that he’s going to escape some day. Because he has to make it back to his family, has to know what happened to Shiro.

  •    Not knowing, Matt thinks, not knowing is almost worse than a solid answer. At least if Shiro was dead he could begin to grieve, but as long as things are uncertain his heart won’t let him release the glimmer of hope. It won’t let him get rid of the fantasies of Shiro being safe and happy back on earth.

  •      Shiro knows he has to remain calm, he has to be the team’s leader and needs to stay strong. Yet every time Pidge announces she’s got some sort of lead, some kind of evidence that might lead them to Matt, he can’t help but feel a tiny glimmer of hope, and he tries to push it away because he knows Matt is probably dead.

  •     Shiro, too, decides that uncertainty is worse than knowing for sure that Matt is dead. Every Galra ship that they destroy, every ship that they watch explode, Shiro wonders if Matt is on there, and he wonders if Matt’s blood is on his hands again. He doesn’t know it, but Pidge thinks the same thing every time as well.

  •     In his darkest moments, when he feels like giving up, Matt remembers Shiro’s desperate face. He remembers Shiro’s voice, telling him to take care of his father. And Matt remembers back on earth, Shiro quietly reminding him to take care of himself, and how he’d reply the same way every time. “But who’s going to take care of you?” And Matt remembers that, and he remembers when he vowed that he’d make it out, for Shiro.

  •      If Shiro’s mantra during his time with the Galra was “Patience yields focus,” then Matt’s is that he has to make it out for Shiro. Even if Shiro is dead, Matt knows the least he can do is escape instead. The least he can do is let Shiro’s family know too, because Matt knows for every time he thinks of his father, of Katie, of his mother, that Shiro must be thinking of his family too.

  •        At some point, Pidge picks up on Shiro’s carefully concealed emotions every time she shares any information about finding Matt, and she makes sure she lets him be the first to know anything she finds. After that, they cling to each other trying desperately to find the reassurance that only the safe discovery of Matt can bring them.

  •         Shiro still thinks Pidge might resent him a little for when he tore her away from the Galra ship on Arus, when the robeast was coming. He understands her reasoning, that she would be willing to risk serious injury to find any clue about Matt. He would too, but he knows that they could have died, and that dead men cannot find Matt. She never picked up on the desperation in his voice, the conflict in his expression. He wonders if he had stayed another moment, if they would have found Matt. Shiro tells himself that living in the past is foolish, even as he replays Matt’s fearful expression in his head for the millionth time.

  •       Matt finds that missing Shiro is like losing a part of yourself, like a dull ache that fades but never really goes away, and that it is like a million instant replays of Shiro’s desperate expression. Shiro finds that missing Matt is like the anxiety of misplacing something important, like a persistent thought in the back of his mind, there at all times, and that it is like a million instant replays of the fear and shock in Matt’s eyes.

  •        Every time Shiro glimpses Pidge out of the corner of his eye, it’s like a stab to his heart. When he was first being rescued back on Earth, when he first caught sight of Pidge he thought that she was Matt. They look so similar, especially now that she’s cut her hair short, and he tries to hide his pain because he is the leader and he needs to be strong for his team. He can’t let them know how broken he is inside, how every time he sees Pidge, he thinks he breaks a little bit more.

  •      During the battle with Zarkon, when they’re losing, and everything is going wrong, Shiro thinks of Matt. He thinks of his last glimpses of Matt, he thinks of what Matt was like back on Earth, and he decides that he can’t die now. He has to live, because he just knows that Matt is out there somewhere. He knows Pidge got new data from Slav’s prison, which gives him hope. And Shiro knows he can’t let himself die knowing that the last Matt saw of him was when he was being attacked.

  •        Matt doesn’t know why, but one day, he’s managed to catch a glimpse of the stars through a window, and something just feels terribly wrong. He thinks of Shiro, at the exact same moment the team is running towards the Black Lion, only to find it empty, to find Shiro missing. Then, Matt is dragged away from the window and everything is the same as always, and still he repeats to himself that he has to make it out for Shiro.

Okay so... you said to bring more Langst prompts so... This kinda has Klance in it so plz don't hate, you don't have to put that in if you don't want to. So, Lance stays up late, he has been for quite a while. Lance cries about his insecurities so he doesn't get much sleep, sometimes none at all. It's been affecting his health and he starts having hallucinations of his family. He's usually late for training and eating. Keith gets angry and goes to scold Lance, only to find him screaming names.

I relate to this more than I should tbh

Lance washed off his facemask, not even surprised that it did nothing against the dark circles that hung beneath his eyes. He was tired. He had been for the past week? Maybe month now. He lost track.

Lance rubbed his eyes and started to get ready, only half assing his morning routine. He didn’t even register the comb through his hair, or putting his green jacket on. His mind was occupied.

Why do I keep thinking about them? It was bad enough when I couldn’t see them anymore but now I see them everywhere. Lance attempted to push his family out of his mind. He loved them to death but he knew he needed to focus and not worry the team.

-

Lance pushed the goo around his plate as he watch Allura speak, barely listening. Man am I tired.

“Lance!” Allura slightly slammed her hand down on the table, causing the boy to jump and everyone to stare at him. “You need to focus. We have to make sure training goes perfectly today since we will be losing time creating alliances the rest of the week.”

“Of course princess. Sorry I’m just really tired today.” Lance stifled a yawn.

Allura stared at him for a few more seconds before sighing. “Training deck in 15.” She glided out of the room.

-

Lance sprinted into the training deck, he knew he was late.

“Lance, you’re late!” Coran said like it was the happiest thing in the world. Did anything bother him?

“Sorry, I was….distracted.” Lance gave the team a wide grin and a forced laugh. When he saw that no one questioned him he exhaled the breath he didn’t know he was holding. Lance couldn’t tell the team the real reason he was late. He actually thought he saw his sister, ON THE CASTLE!! He saw her but no matter how fast he ran he never caught up to her.

Allura enter the training deck. “Good we’re all here. Let’s begin.

-

They were split into groups. Pidge with Hunk, Shiro with Allura, and of course Keith with Lance.

Lance seemed to be the only one struggling with hand to hand combat. He wanted to say it was because he never used he hands, however Hunk was doing just fine and he had a bigger gun than Lance.

Lance tried to give Keith a run for his money but he was tired. His head was pounding and he kept getting lightheaded. His vision would sometimes get blurry and he could barely stand at moments.

Needless to say, Lance was a very easy opponent for Keith. Keith would put him down in about 10 ticks every time. Lance could barely keep up, let alone keep standing up.

Lance could feel the annoyance radiating off Keith, he couldn’t bring himself to care. He just wanted to go to bed.

After what felt like years Allura said that they were done. Lance listen to Shiro tell him what he needed to work on and he dragged himself back to his room.

Lance barely got his armor off before he fell on his bed and passed out.

-

Keith stomped towards Lance’s room, he was already pissed from training today. Lance didn’t even try to fight him, he was like a rag doll. Now Lance missed dinner? What was up with him recently.

Keith stopped in front of Lance’s door, inhaled and knocked.

No response. Come on Lance, I’m not in the mood for games.

Keith knocked louder. Still nothing.

Keith was about to walk away, just because he was mad he still respected people’s privacy.

Keith started to turn from the door when he heard something. Was that a whimper? Keith put his ear up to the door and listened. Yeah, those are definitely whimpers…..I’m sorry Lance. Keith opened the door.

Keith stood outside the door and stared into the room. He saw Lance on his bed, thrashing around and whimpering.

Keith stared wide eyed for a moment, then he walked towards Lance, making sure the door closed behind him. He stood a few inches away from Lance, his hands almost touching him.

Lance looked horrible. He was shaking, and sweating. He was whimpering and saying names? Keith didn’t recognize any of the names. However he did recognize “Mama”.

It didn’t take Keith long to figure out that Lance was talking about his family. He couldn’t watch it anymore, Keith reluctantly reached forwards and shook Lance. “Lance!”

Lance flung his eyes opened and bolted forward nearly smacking into Keith in the process.

Lance looked at keith and scurried to the opposite side of the bed and hugged his legs. “He-hey Keith. Time for dinner?”

Keith nodded and continued to stare at Lance. “Lance is everything alright?” Keith wanted to hug him, strange right, but he decided to stay where he was.

“Yeah, of course! Just a dream.” Lance tried to laugh ot off but his voice was raw.

“Lance, that wasn’t a dream. You can talk to me.” Keith sat on the edge of the bed hoping to calm Lance down.

Lance continued to stare at Keith, his breaths were coming fast and his shirt was soaked in sweat. Keith wouldn’t judge him…right? “I miss my family.” Lance swallowed around the lump in his throat.

“Well that’s okay we all miss someone from Earth.” Lance responded by shaking his head.

“No like this is different from usual. I’m seeing them, I saw my sister in the castle. Keith I’m losing it aren’t I?” Keith stared at Lance even more.

He was hallucinating, okay.  “Lance I think you’re just tired.” Keith was trying to find and answer for Lance.

“I can’t. I only slept because of how tired I was. Everytime I sleep I see my family. They’re disappointed in them, I left Earth and didn’t tell them. I never want to make my mama cry but every time I dream, she cries.” Lance’s breathing started to pick up. “And when I don’t sleep my brain is occupied with everything I do wrong. I’m a failed pilot. I’m a failed teammate. I’m a failed friend. I can’t do anything right.” Lance fought back tears as his voice wavered.

Keith wasn’t sure what part got him but he crawled across the bed and hugged Lance as tight as he could. He slowly felt his shoulder become wet and shaky arms wrap around him.

“Lance your parents are not disappointed in you. You’re not a failure. You just need to cope and get help. There is no shame in it. You can talk to me whenever you need.”

Lance tried not to shake but he started to tremble all over as he sobbed on Keith’s shoulder. “Thank you Keith.”

-

Roughly 2 months had passed and Lance started to sleep better. He brain stopped voicing his insecurities and he saw less of his family. He trained better, and he pilots Blue better than ever. He did it because of one thing. Every night he would sleep next to a certain Red paladin and every time Lance had an issue, he was right there to help.

I am terrible sorry this took so long.

I love this idea! Also never apologize for Klance, it’s my life.

I hope you like it!!!

Thank you!

What proof do we have that Eris is abusive, other than that characters have said he is? Most held a similar opinion of Rhys, what's the difference? That we have a first person narrator who is privy to the backstory of one but not the other? I'm not trying to be aggressive but I want to know your thoughts. I thought showing was more important than telling in storytelling.

Okay then, like, what ‘proof’ have we got for literally 90% of the things in this series???? Feyre is a 19 year old human girl in a world full of immortal fae. You want an eye witness account for everything in this thing, do you?

How do I know the war happened the way they said it did? Feyre never saw it, she’s only had characters tell her about it. How do I know Rhys actually hated what he did with Amarantha and didn’t just swap sides right at the end? How do I know Rhys’ dad sucked but his mother was a good person, I’ve only heard him tell me about her, I’ve seen it. How do I know Tamlin’s brothers were awful? Never seen them either. How do I know Beron is really that awful either, I mean maybe he’s wearing a mask too and all the characters are just wrong. How do I know Mor is queer? I’ve never seen her with a girl before, I just have her word for it, maybe she lied. How do I know literally anything in this entire series because WE GET TOLD MOST THINGS NOT SHOWN THEM.

This is what happens when you have a limited first person pov. The character HAS to get told things in order to tell us things like ???? A little bit of common sense please, do you want me to like, historically fact check Prythian for everything that Feyre tells us about it???

And tbh SJM has a pretty crappy habit of doing the whole ‘telling over showing’ thing anyway. See: the entirety of the Throne of Glass series, Mor’s powers in ACOTAR (she’s awesome, really, we promise, we just haven’t actually SEEN her do anything), the assertions that Rhys and co are ~the most powerful ever~ have I actually SEEN that? Can I actually see that? No.  Do I really question these things? No. Because I understand that this is the only way I can actually get some information out of this story and if I only went with what I ‘saw’ and disbelieved everything else I’d have literally nothing??

And when it comes to the whole Eris thing, like, dude, it’s not just a couple of characters who’ve said he’s abysmal it’s like, wait let me make a list:

Tamlin: “His father had her put down. Executed, in front of Lucien, as his two eldest brothers held him and made him watch.” That would be Eris. So at best you’ve got conflicting statements here.

Lucien: “Lucien crossed his arms, leaning against the back of the couch. “I have to agree with Cassian. Eris is a snake.M, yes, Eris, HIS OWN BROTHER. If anyone was going to know Eris was ~not a bad person~ it’d be Lucien. Lucien who lived in that court. Who knew him. Who Eris apparently cared enough to protect/save, according to him. Eris who apparently cares so much about his mother (as we have seen Lucien does SEEN that is SEEN with our own two eyes) Why the hell would Lucien not know Eris was ‘wearing a mask’. Or maybe…Eris really does suck.

Rhys: “Eris refused to marry her. Said she’d been sullied by a bastard-born lesser faerie, and he’d now sooner fuck a sow. […]Rhys said with soft wrath, “Eris left her for dead in the middle of their woods.” Idgaf how he tries to spin it later, this is what happened.

Cassian: “You’re working with that prick,” Cassian cut in, whatever catching-up now over, apparently. He moved to Mor’s side, a hand on her back. He shook his head at Azriel and Rhys, disgust curling his lip. “You should have spiked Eris’s fucking head to the front gates.”

Amren: “Your whole family is despicable,” Amren said to Lucien.

Mor: At Mor, whose face went white with dread. […]Or at Eris, heir to the Autumn Court, as he strolled into the room.

[…]

And I had the terrible sense that Mor had gone somewhere far, far away as Eris set down his goblet and said, “You look well, Mor.”

The sight of him triggers actual real panic attacks and flashbacks that we can literally see from Feyre’s POV. Five hundred years after the fact and Mor is still traumatised enough by what he did to her to react like this even after all that time.

Then we have Feyre’s POV herself. Through her we’ve seen Eris laughing alongside his other brothers as Lucien was tortured and nearly killed.

“I don’t suppose your handsome brothers know, Lucien,” she purred.

“If we did, Lady, we would be the first to tell you,” said the tallest. He was lean, well dressed, every inch of him a court-trained bastard. Probably the eldest, given the way even the ones who looked like born warriors stared at him with deference and calculation—and fear.

Ah, yes, that would be Eris actively promising help to Amarantha in order to damn Feyre and continue her reign. Then there’s the way Eris hunts down Lucien and Feyre in the Winter Court, actively harms them both. So that’s like…Basically every single main character in this book who’s told you Eris sucks.

What’s the basis for believing that he doesn’t, out of interest? I mean what ‘evidence’ do you have that he is actually wearing a mask, what do you have that’s so strong it goes against the testimony of multiple characters? Oh I know! You have Eris’ word for it and that’s it. Wow. So unbiased. So convincing. Eris tells us he’s not really a bad guy and that outweighs the half a dozen people who tells us he is! That’s just. Damn. What logic. Can’t argue with that.

Also, like, I’m sorry, but Rhys’ arc was done properly, Rhys’ redemption wasn’t a retcon it was a followed-through on plan. There were hints UtM that Rhys was not as black as he was painted (He killed the Summer Court faerie outright rather than leaving him to suffer, he repeatedly came to visit Feyre in her cell when no-one else would, he was honest with Feyre about the treatment he received at Amarantha’s hands (a vulnerability on his part), he told her why he was making her dance every night as well as the steps he put in place to protect her, he sent music to her and saved her life, he saved her life and Tamlin’s with the kiss (which Feyre is aware of), he tried to save Feyre’s life while Amarantha was torturing her)

Rhys was a complex, morally grey character UtM and it’s possible to show a different side to him and a ‘mask’ because there were always hints of him wearing one. What if Ianthe told Feyre she was actually a secret agent working for Prythian but she was forced to act the way she did to keep her cover? What if Amarantha said she’d only dominated Prythian that way to save it from something worse and she too was wearing a mask and working for the greater good? What if Hybern said there was a bigger threat facing them and he had an ulterior motive to this war (and also, I mean, how do you really know Hybern is that awful, we’ve only ever had people tell us about him, maybe he’s misunderstood too!!!!)  @valamerys wrote this out far better than I could in this post, read it too.

My thoughts are pretty simple, tbh: SJM decided to “”””””redeem”””””” Eris, likely to have him set-up to take over Autumn, now Lucien isn’t an option for that before what with the whole dramatic lost son of Day thing and she did a crap job of it. Like this isn’t some grand morality based character debate that’s going on here, SJM just handled this poorly. In order to make him seem not so bad she had to undo all of the canon that she’d set in place before hand and offer ‘alternative’ explanations for what happened that we’ve never heard about.

If she planned this all beforehand, if Eris was always wearing a mask why weren’t there hints of it before? Why didn’t she have Tamlin tell Feyre he got an anonymous tip-off the day he saved Lucien’s life from his brothers (which is what Eris claimed). Why wouldn’t Lucien defend him a little, say at least he cared about their mother/was sometimes kinder to him than the others? Why wouldn’t Rhys say that in the arranged marriage that petrified Mor, Eris was as unwilling as she was, that he argued against it? (Eris would have gone through with this marriage regardless of what it did to Mor if she hadn’t slept with Cassian) Why wouldn’t Eris stay quiet UtM or not show up to watch Lucien’s torture (which he does repeatedly)? Why, why, why, why, why would SJM not do something to show us that there might be more to Eris? Unless this was just a sloppy, last minute retcon to redeem a gross, abusive character who still to do this day petrifies his victim?

Like, if you consider showing to be of more importance than telling in stories….You’ve picked a mighty weird hill to die on here with Eris. Because this is literally the worst example of telling not showing in this entire series. There is no basis for anything that happens with Eris’ character in ACOWAR and the only thing we have stacked against the evidence of two and a half books is what Eris says and how he personally spins the story like ????

Idk dude, we can have a convoluted, let’s bend over backwards to redeem this guy and show he was misunderstood and has been wearing a mask so convincing it’s never ever ever cracked even once this entire time, to anyone! Even people who’ve known him for centuries….Or we go with the simpler: SJM really didn’t plan or execute this story very well at all. Which seems more reasonable?

You think MikaYuu will actually be canon? People always says "it won't be canon 'cause OnS is a shonen" or "it won't be canon 'cause OnS is written by a male" but I really don't think these are valid arguments. (love your blog. sorry for bad english)

Those arguments are silly. There’re actual shonen mangas with LGBT characters.

Yu Yu Hakusho was a shounen, written by a man and has gay characters and in HxH it’s kind of hinted that killugon is a thing too, because Togashi supports LGBT.

Shingeki no Kyojin has Ymir and Historia too, and it’s written by a man.

At the very least, Shonen jump might not want it to be canon but *shrugs* then all he would have to do is not pair them with someone else and hint at mika/yuu. (Like korrasami)

Bad arguments made by people with low-quality thought processes tbh.

Hi i'm at work and melting and I have the worst headache and tbh I feel like I'm dying and I'm pretty sure it's overheating but can I pls get cute sexcapade fluff ficlet from you to make my life suck less. Ty ily. If not its ok don't worry but also hi ily again

Aaron isn’t really sure how it happened, in the end. One minute they were putting their ensuite shower to use, Robert sneaking in behind him as Aaron soaped up his hair, and the next thing he knew, Robert had gone flying, cracking his head against the thick glass of their shower door.

“Jesus - fuck, Robert, are you okay?” Aaron shut off the shower, sliding a bit on the tiled floor himself as he crouched down to check if his husband was okay, Robert sitting on the shower floor, looking a little more than dazed.

“‘M… not sure,” Robert’s words slurred a little as he spoke, pressing a hand to the back of his head.

Aaron hooked his arms around Robert, his husband like dead weight as he hoisted him out of the shower, depositing him unceremoniously on their bed, knowing Robert would give him nothing but grief later for letting their fresh bedsheets get soaked through.

“Let me see,” he murmured, tilting Robert’s head slightly so he could assess the damage. Robert’s head wasn’t bleeding, or anything, so he took that as a good sign, but that shower door was seriously thick glass, and Aaron couldn’t help but be concerned.

Especially when Robert was still so dazed.

“Come on, get dressed,” Aaron said, pulling on his own boxers, wincing at the way his clothes stuck to his damp skin.

“Why?”

“Because I’m taking you to the hospital Robert,” Aaron said, as if it were obvious. “You just nearly cracked your skull open on the shower door, you could have a concussion.”

“I’ll be fine, just a bit woozy,” Robert shrugged, fumbling for the trousers Aaron was handing him.

“Robert, don’t argue with me,” Aaron shook his head, fully dressed now. He would have run down to grab something to eat, but he didn’t quite trust Robert to get down the stairs (god, why had they gone for a spiral staircase again) without tumbling head first down it, the state he was in.

Robert seemed too disorientated to argue, squinting at the button of his trousers as he tried to do it up.

“I can’t believe I’m dressing ya,” Aaron teased, covering his worry with a joke as he buttoned Robert’s trousers. “I didn’t think we’d be doing this until you were at least forty.”

“Ha-ha,” Robert attempted to roll his eyes, tugging on a discarded t-shirt of Aaron’s. “You try getting your pants on after you nearly brained yourself in the shower.”

Aaron gave him a sympathetic look, squeezing his hip. “It’s probably just a concussion, if anything,” he said, guiding a still disorientated Robert toward the stairs, practically sighing with relief as his husband held tightly to the bannister, taking the steps one at a time (usually Robert was worse than Liv, thundering down the stairs like a small herd of elephants.)

“I’m going to have a banging headache either way,” Robert sighed, picking up a hoodie of Aaron’s, Aaron having had left it thrown over the back of the couch the previous evening. “And I didn’t even get an orgasm out of it.”

Aaron snorted, leaning in to press a quick kiss to Robert’s lips. “I’ll make it up to ya, old man.”

It had been a concussion. A fairly mild one at that, the nurse barely holding in laughter as Robert explained how he’d slipped in the shower, his cheeks turning a bright pink as he did so.

They’d spend the day on the couch, Robert nursing a banging headache and Aaron more than making up for the orgasm that wasn’t by the end of the day.

Robert had all but gotten over it when he’d gotten to work the next morning, a shower mat on his desk, right red bow attached and Adam doubled over in the corner, laughing his head off. “You told him?” he asked, incredulous.

Aaron couldn’t do much to hold back his laughter now either. “I had to tell him why we weren’t coming in to work!” he defended himself, remembering how Adam had just broken down on the phone when Aaron had told him they were in A&E because Robert had fell in the shower, Adam quickly putting two and two together.

Robert glared at the two of them. “Don’t either of you dare tell Vic.”

A week later, a brochure for shower chairs arrived in their front door, Victoria’s neat hand writing stating she’d picked out a few nice ones for him, and that was the moment Robert decided he hated his entire family.

anonymous asked:

I feel like you really know a lot of things about music industry and such? Can you please share your thoughts on Louis' 'team' and why are they don't care abt him at all?

well i’m not an industry person, so i don’t now that much tbh. i’ll attribute my knowledge to a childhood of watching vh1′s behind the music religiously, documentaries, and years of following celebrities lol.

i think i’ve said this before, but i don’t think louis’ team gives 2 shits about him because he hasn’t signed any long term deal with them, and especially not with syco. if he had then his promo would look a little different. first of all, he’d be #1 on simon’s roster as he’s the most known and the largest potential earner. yet he’s being treated like he’s at the bottom of the totem pole while still being made to do promo for JA. ironic.

also, this is completely out of my ass but - i’ve also been wondering if sony doesn’t/didn’t hold as much power over syco as people think, especially up until 2015 when the new deal was signed. when simon initially signed his deal between sony & syco years ago, he may have put into the contract that sony can’t have ultimate jurisdiction over how his acts are handled or something of that nature. sony was initially just trying to get a piece of the xfactor pie so this doesn’t seem weird to me considering simon’s ego and control freak tendencies. however, simon lost his upperhand when 1d decided not to re-sign with syco. but anything louis signed may still be held to the original power structure, depending on when he signed it. but people who ask “why hasn’t sony done something?” …maybe they can’t? but whatever louis’ team is(n’t) doing rn isn’t beneficial to anyone’s bottom line. so it makes no actual business sense and just seems to be a lack of action out of vengeance tbh.

Daddy’s New Date (Tony Stark x Reader!daughter)

This fic was suposed to be out 3 days ago, I explained here why I’m posting today. I wrote this in less than 30 minutes, and I think it’s pretty shit (tbh everything I write it’s pretty shit, lol) but I hope you like it anyway :)

MY MASTERLIST

It’s having been difficult for you since your dad and Pepper decided to take a break at their relationship. You understood her, dating Tony Stark it was easy, difficult was to date the Iron Man, she couldn’t stand this, not for too long. You never really met your mom, your saw her a couple times but for you, Pepper was your mom, since you entered in Tony Stark’s life she had been taking care of you, like you were her own daughter.

When your dad told you their decision you got a bit sad. When he told you that he was kind interested in another woman you freaked out, you freaked out more yet when he told you that you two were having dinner with her and her nephew. But when you discoverd that the woman was the aunt of your friend Peter Parker you lost your shit out.

-Aunt May? Really dad? REALLY?

-Do you know her?

-OF COURSE I KNOW HER, SHE’S PETER AUNT

-Oh yeah, I’ve already forgot this detail. Actually this make the things pretty easier don’t you think?

-NO I DO NOT THINK, I THINK THIS MAKE THE THINGS PRETTY WORSE

-Now, first of all, would mind stop yelling at me?

-Sorry

-You’re being dramatic (y/n)

-DRAMATIC?

-Hey, what did I just told you about yelling?

-Sorry again. I’m not being dramatic. I just don’t want you to date Aunt May

-We’re not dating , we’re just… knowing each other

-I see

-Okay, I gotta go now. Be in the dining room at 7, please

-Do I have another choice?

-No you don't

-Then okay, I’ll be there

-Great

He placed a kiss in your forehead

-And honey

-Yes?

-Be nice

-I’m always nice

-Miss Stark?

-Yes Jarvis

-Your father requires your presence in the dining room

-I’m on my way, thanks Jarvis

-You are always welcome Miss Stark

“Even if you don’t like this idea, try not to fuck up with everything” thats what was passing in your mind. You made your way to the dining room. You father was there with May and Peter. Great. As soon as Peter see you coming into the room he says

-(y/n)!

-Peter

-You’re looking pretty…

He makes a pause and look to your father who is starting at him with a murderous look

-…Nice!

The boy smiles

-Thanks Peter, you’re so sweet. May, it’s so good to have you here

-Thanks (y/n), you’re always no nice

You look to your father

-I told you, didn’t I?

He rolls his eyes and said

-C'mon, let’s eat

-How are the things at school Peter?

-Great Mr. Stark, thanks for asking

-You’re welcome, remember, studies comes in first place. I always say this to (y/n) as well

-You’re absolutely right mr. Stark

-Oh May, please, call me Tony

He smiled at her and you couldn’t help but roll your eyes.

-And how about you (y/n), how school is going

-Pretty well May. Next week is my graduation

-Really? Congratulations then

-Thank you

-She got the brains from me and the beauty of her mother

-Then you mother must be really beautiful

-She is indeed.

May noticed the you got a little discomforted with the subject

-Oh I’m sorry, did I say something wrong?

-No, no, no. It’s just…I, I never met my mother, I mean, I encountered with her a couple times but. It’s like we a totally strangers to each other.

-I’m so sorry (y/n). You father did a great job raising you but I know the importance of a mother figure in someone’s life

-But I do have a mother figure in my life

-Do you?

-Yes! Pepper.

You father kicked you leg, he knew you was about to start

-Pepper was always my mother figure. Actually, to me, she is my mother, she’s with us since ever. Without her me and daddy couldn’t work

-You’re exaggerating babygirl

-No, I’m not. Without her nothing works

-She must be very important to you

-She’s exagg…

You cut you father before he can finish

-YES, she is. She is beyond important for us

-I thought you two broke up

May said with a surprised face

-We did

You father said kicking your leg one more time

-They didn’t break up. They just took a break, I’m pretty sure they still love each other

-Can we change the subject. Please?

-As your wish father.

All of you stayed in silence for a minute

-Well, uh, Peter, tell us how your internship at Starks going?

-Is the best internship, it’s great. Great. Thanks for the opportunity Mr. Stark

-You’re a great intern Peter

-What about you (y/n)? Do you work somewhere?

-No I don’t. Actually, I wanted to work somewhere, but dad don’t let me

-Why Mr. Stark?

-Please May, call me Tony

-Tony. Why?

-Why would I let her work? She doesn’t need it. And also, she doesn’t really want to work, she only wants a reason to stay out all day

-Thats not true

-Yes it is. Now, changing the subject, again, I was thinking of dinner out with (y/n) after her graduation ceremony next week, you guys are more than welcome to join us, if it is okay for you honey

-Of course it is

-Good, wanna sugest a restaurant?

-I have no one in mind

-Can I sugest one?

-Of course May

-What about that one nearby the Hotel? the food is great and it has a awesome view to the ocean

-I know this one. It’s great

-Your father took me there once

-Oh he did?

-Yes

You look to your father surprised. why he didn’t tell you this

-It is a great restaurant indeed, I too you there once honey, don’t you remeber?

-Of course I remember dad, Pepper went with us as well, you were going to propose to her that day

Tony kicked your leg once again

-Wait, you were going to propose for Pepper?

May asked, almost not believing

-Yes, he were, but he was so scared that he didn’t

-I wasn’t scare, I just thought it wasn’t the right moment

-Liar. you talked about the proposal the whole week.

Tony kicked your leg once more, he did this so many times that you were sure your leg as already red

-Thats not true

-Yes it is

And again another awkard silence

-Well, the dinner was great but I think we should go. It’s getting late

-Oh please. Stay a little bit

-I’m sorry Mr. Stark

-Tony

-Tony, I’m sorry but we have to go. Peter has class tomorrow and I have to go to work as well, so… thanks for everything but we have to go. It’s was great to see you (y/n). Bye sweet

-Bye May

-Mr. Stark

-Tony

-Tony, thanks for the dinner

-You’re welcome May. Bye Peter

-Bye Mr. Stark. Bye bye (y/n). See you tomorrow?

-Of course Pete. Bye

They left and your father started to leave the dining room, you see that your he was upset. Yes, you messed up with everything.

-Dad?

-What now?

-I, I’m sorry. Really. I messed it up, I don’t know why I said those things about you and Pepper

-Yes you know. And I know too

-Do you?

-Yes I do. You did this because you still hope that Pepper and I can go back together, and you know what? I have the same hope

He hugged you. He has the best hug in the whole world.

-So you aren’t mad with me?

-Oh but I am, I’m very mad at you. But I love you, and I love Pepper too

-Then call her, say this to her

-I will, now, go to your room, you’re grounded

-What?
-You heard me

-Are you mocking me?

-No, I’m not. You think you can get way with acting like a brat?

-What?

-That’s right. To your room

-You are unbelievable daddy

-So as you. Now go

You are climbing the stairs when you heard Tony calling you

-(y/n)!

-Yes dad?

-I love you babygirl

-I love you better

-I loved you first. Have a good night.

-You too daddy

You were about about the climb again

-And dad

-Yes?

-Call her

-I will

-Goodnight

-Goodnight honey

anahthema  asked:

i've seen a lot of people talking about the shatter me series lately. a while ago there were a lot of mixed reviews about it so i decided not to read it, but now i'm hearing great things?? if you don't mind, could you give me a few reasons why i should check it out?

[cracks knuckles]
- okay so the main protagonist, my mother who gave birth to me and raised me herself, juliette ferrars? she’s locked up in an asylum by her parents who just ~couldn’t deal~ with her being different & basically hurried to get rid of her
- she keeps a journal bc it’s the only thing that keeps her alive and sane?? also shatter me is set in a dystopian world where there are no books (in the present time) or things to occupy her mind other than her own extremely depressive and often suicidal thoughts
- long story short she’s been through a lot and she’s VERY fragile at first like she just wants to be able to touch someone but she can’t
- in comes the shatter me malaria™ but don’t worry it’s not like r&r at all he’s dealt with accordingly (later in the books)
- hands down THE BEST character development i’ve ever witnessed with my own two eyes
- she goes from a meek crybaby who’s afraid of hurting people to a fully fledged hbic in no time and she OWNS UP TO HER POWER
- MY SHIT RIGHT THERE mMMMMMMMmm
- anyway i’d die for juliette ferrars (inspiring, strong, KIND despite everyone treating her like shit or like some kind of weapon and not an actual human being) in a heartbeat moving on
- WARNER
- BOI
- BOI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- the fashionista style icon of sector 45
- that’s leader of sector 45 for you
- beautiful golden boy who’s more of an antagonist/anti hero bc goodie two shoes character are boring we all know that unless it’s purposefully written as a precious cupcake of some kind which warner is not
- in fact some ppl rly believed he was EVIL in the first book but trust me he’s NOT he has his own agenda that has to do with juliette but it’s not what you think 👀 hope that was mysterious enough
- warner: kills people
also warner: pets a dog?? loves dogs?? a dog person?? protect him??????? if you won’t i will
- juliette agrees too don’t worry
- HE LITERALLY CALLS ADAM A.K.A THE MAL EQUIVALENT “ rotting innards of unidentified roadkill” HE!!!!!!!!!!!!! DOES THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! b o i
- okay i’ve said enough now here’s the cherry on top, the dessert of the full course meal that is shatter me:
- KENJI KISHIMOTO
- A JAPANESE MAIN CHARACTER
- who’s not sidelined or stereotyped like he’s funny and smart and playful and very bi you can’t convince me otherwise
- he teases juliette all the time and they’re the ultimate brotp
- no really their friendship?? is amazing?? beautiful?? so important/??
- but then there’s warner/kenji…….. that’s like A Thing all on its own bc they both talk so much shit about each other but they have SO MUCH respect for each other too it’s a beautiful thing to behold tbh
- every moment where this perfect trio interacts is A Gift From The Goddess Herself™ and by goddess i mean tahereh mafi
- kenji has some superpowers of his own… in fact everyone does but his are super cool okay
- has some of THE best zingers/one-liners EVER
- there are some a+ girls but we don’t get to see them that much
- hOWEVER we were promised more female friendships & female characters in general + more lgbt characters in the shatter me sequel restore me… coming to a bookstore near you (the release date is may 6th 2018 so mark that down)
- the writing is so unique and beautiful it’s like poetry flowing through you (out of juliette’s mouth)
- literally don’t listen to a single negative review you see on goodreads they’re liars the whole lot of ‘em
- shatter me is one of the most gripping amazing a++++ series i’ve ever reaD PLEASE READ IT so you can get ready for restore me

Hey I was just reminded of talalay's tweet and I know she might not know of a special or the writers' intentions but her words annoyed me... it makes me feel like they dislike us, but if she thinks so i don't understand some of her directing in tst (like sherlock being revealed in the chair and mary=thatcher smashed). How do you interpret this whole thing, if you don't mind me asking? P.s. I loved your the ring meta!

Hi!

Thanks so much for the compliment about my meta! <3 Glad you enjoyed it.

I only just learned about Rachel Talalay’s comment. I’m guessing you’re referring to this

I would say it’s worth disregarding, as is anything any creator has to say about work they’ve released into the world.

Before I explain further, I just want to say that this in no way reflects any feelings or thoughts I have about Talalay’s skill as a director. I’m rewatching tst right now, and I think it’s very beautiful in many ways, despite the reservations I have about its reality status / the script / that wife / how we’re supposed to understand the episode. There’s nothing, I think, in the way it’s directed that gets in the way of the story that’s being told, and it has its own gorgeous qualities (that shark transition at the beginning is just…wow, really lovely.)

As for her comment, ugh. It was offered, it seems, spontaneously, in the context of answering a much more straightforward question about how a particular scene was filmed in Doctor Who, so it was unnecessary, to say the least. Now, I don’t know, I have no idea what has been said to her. I don’t know how much she’s had to deal with people coming at her for things over which she has no control, like the overall direction of the show. I don’t much care, tbh. Because I think that if you’re going to engage in social media interactions with people, you need to be cool about it. You should try to be gracious. Understand that people are excited about what you’ve made, which is, like, the point of making it? Isn’t it?

The main thing for me is, I’ve been on both sides of the creator / critic spectrum, professionally as a writer (on a really small scale), and academically as a literary scholar (at the highest level one can go). So I’ve thought about literary interpretation a lot, and thought a lot about its role, relative to literature itself. Here’s what I know:

When people make a thing, a creative thing, they pull on all kinds of stuff of which they may or may not be aware. It’s an art. There’s planning, and there’s purpose, and there’s the story they know they want to tell, and then there’s serendipity, and the intuitive ways in which symbolism builds, and there’s the mass of art and literature that came before yours, there’s the direct source material (acd canon) and there’s indirect source material (the tons and tons of Holmesian pastiche); there’s tradition (like the Gothic); there are brands (Hammer horror, Bond, and, weirdly, the Muppets). It all goes into the mix, and out comes a thing that works, or doesn’t.

This is why authorial intention is garbage as a concept: because literary texts are made from a combination of conscious and unconscious content.

And this is why all creator commentary about what they meant to do, or didn’t, is rubbishy bullshit at best. Ideally, I think, a creator should ask, “What did you think of it?” Rather than, proclaiming, “Oh, that’s not what I meant.”

(I know, I know. We want there to be a plan. We want johnlock to be part of the consciously crafted content of the show. I obviously do. I want mofftiss to be good. I want them to be clever. I want the clearly inferior quality of s4 to be part of a meta-level Reichenbach arg. I hope it is. But even if it isn’t, even if they meant tfp to be a totally straightforward end to s4 and possibly the series as a whole, there is still much we can do in terms of reading it, interpreting it, enjoying it. This is not reaching. The subtext is practically hanging off the text like ripe fruit, begging to be picked.)

It is up to the critic, the literary analyst, the audience, to decide what the thing they’re consuming means to them. The symbols, tropes, character arcs, plots, etc., etc., which the creator has put together–all of this interacts with you, your personal experience, the other texts you’ve enjoyed, the symbols, tropes, plots, etc., that are part of your cultural experience, and there, in you, is where they make meaning.

You can emerge from the experience of a text and say, this is what it means, and interpret it in light of what you know, and what you’ve felt, and back it up using the textual evidence that made you think what you did, and no one–that is to say NO ONE–can tell you you’re wrong. They can tell you they think there’s a better reading. They can tell you they think yours has holes in it. You can, if you wish, engage in discussion about it. But you don’t have to. Above all, you should do what makes you happy. This is supposed to be fun–which, it seems, is something that Talalay, with her snarky comment about “rationality,” seems to have forgotten.

Nonetheless, for those of us who do choose to craft arguments out of our favourite readings of this, or any literary text:

There are good interpretations–ones that really hold water when you interrogate them and subject them to argumentation. There are less valid interpretations–ones that fall apart if you so much as breathe on them.

Johnlock is a valid interpretation. It is as solid as granite. It has a metric fuckton of evidence backing it up. The only thing it doesn’t have, right now, is an explicit confirmation from the text that satisfies much of the audience who supports that interpretation. (Right now, there’s sort of a johnlock light reading we can glean from the most superficial level of the text. In my opinion, there’s a much more intense johnlock reading possible via the subtext.)

There are, of course, other readings. Of course there are! But let me tell you, having had a run-in or two with the dude who made that anti-tjlc blog, WELL, he is far from rational. He transforms into a squalling infant if you so much as push on one of his ideas. And then tells you you’re bullying him. Methinks he enjoys being fighty.

THE BOTTOM LINE IS: Once a creator has released something into the world, their role is done. It’s then up to the audience to take the thing and run with it. I am so glad–SO GLAD–to be part of a fandom that voraciously consumes, analyzes, critiques, and otherwise shakes the thing we love until all the best bits and pieces fall out. That’s the fun of it! For a creator to turn around and say, NO! You’re loving the thing I made in the wrong way–well, that is really small.

So: thanks for this ask, sorry to go on for so long but I have LOTS of feelings about this, clearly.

sometimes i think about what could have made me like sc*tt. like. s1&s2 sc*tt definitely had his faults- esp. wrt his treatment of derek- but i think he definitely could have developed as a person from there and had a rly interesting character arc? like real personal growth and shit. it gets harder after master plan. is there a way that episode could have gone down the way it did and still made him a likable character after that? is there any apology he could give that would suffice?

cont. - like im not sure of the answer, but id love to see someone manage it. i don’t know if ive ever come across a fic that manages to redeem him from that moment while still acknowledging it. most fics either dont forgive him for it or they just sort of ignore it. for me tho, i think the real breaking point for sc*tt is the true alpha storyline. after that i don’t think there was anything they could have done for him to make him an interesting or likeable character. that storyline ruined it.

I think one of the biggest places where people take issue with Scott –– and this doesn’t mean they hate him or he’s a horrible human being (although some people feel that way too, and are entitled to it), but where many people see Scott falling short as a character is in that the show seems to have decided that “main character” or “hero” should mean perfect, and that’s just… that’s not good for character development, for plot building, or honestly, for a character’s likability.

Characters need to grow to be engaging. And people grow by making mistakes, learning from them, and moving forward. Scott’s mistakes, his flaws as a human being (and yes, he has flaws, everyone does, that’s not character assassination, that’s just fact) are really never addressed. He isn’t made to apologize for the things he does wrong (and why should he, honestly, since no one around him recognizes his problematic behaviors and calls him out on them) or face any apparent payment for them. This compared to the rest of the characters in the series, who are called out on their mistakes –– either by other characters or by consequences in canon. I always use Derek as a comparison, because there are a lot of straightforward parallels, such as the key moments with Isaac. Derek throws a glass at Isaac to get him to leave the loft. We know that’s an absolutely shitty thing to do, it reads immediately on both Isaac and Derek’s faces, and as consequence Derek loses Isaac as a pack member. That’s some hardcore, immediate reaction showing people in the scene and in the audience that This Was Not An Ok Thing To Do. The fact that Derek knew it wasn’t ok as he was doing it, and that he did it on purpose to get Isaac to leave for his own safety, does not make the behavior alright, and Derek acknowledges and pays for that behavior in the permanent loss of Isaac as a housemate and pack member.

When Scott, a short time later, throws Isaac into a wall in a moment of jealousy, it should, on the surface, seem to strike a fairly close parallel. We have Isaac’s Alpha, someone in a position of power over him, physically lashing out at him in some way. But in this instance, neither Scott nor Isaac react much to it, Isaac continues to go on living in Scott’s house and remaining a member of his pack, and there is just… no real follow up to that moment. And while I understand how that can lead some viewers to dismiss the moments as not being parallel (Isaac wasn’t upset there, so clearly Scott’s behavior is acceptable), what I and many viewers are instead left with is the message that Derek lashing out is unexpected and unacceptable, Scott lashing out is expected and acceptable, and that makes him… more heroic?

In season five I believe there finally was a moment between Stiles and Scott where Scott seemed to be being called out on his behavior, but even that came off as very “I’m flawed and you can’t understand that because you’re perfect,” which is… it’s how Scott sees himself, and it’s how the writers seem to see him, but A) that fails to acknowledge the ways in which he is flawed –– meaning that he can’t learn from and improve upon those flaws –– and B) makes for an incredibly un-engaging character. How can we identify with perfection? How can we root for perfection? And how can we fully get on board with someone we are told is perfect, when we can look at them and point out a dozen instances where they weren’t?

This is my major issue with Scott’s character. That we are told he is perfect when we see he isn’t, that he has a double standard of being excused from all of his bad behaviors when the characters around him aren’t, and I do think this connects very much to the True Alpha problem (I got another ask about my thoughts on that so I’ll answer that in more detail separately), because it’s just another level of saying “Scott is a better man, werewolf, and person in general than everyone else.”

Ok, now after all of that, how do I think Scott could have been improved and made more likable for many critical viewers? To be honest, for me it would have been really simple. Include moments where he apologizes for things. That’s… really, honestly, all I would have needed. Because like I said, I’m not looking for perfect characters. Scott acknowledging that he screwed up now and again would make me ecstatic because it would mean that he’s learning and growing and is trying to become better, and that makes for an amazing character arc in any show. If Scott had done the exact same thing in “Master Plan,” except when Derek asked why Scott didn’t tell him Scott had said “I’m sorry… I was afraid if I told anyone then Gerard would find out my plan. And I couldn’t risk that, my mom was in danger” then bam. I would have had a complete turnaround on my attitude toward him in that moment. He would have been humanized, we would have seen that he was in a tough situation, and he would have become more sympathetic by sympathizing with the shitty thing he’d done to Derek. Honestly, that simple.

So Bakugou and Todoroki's hero names didn't get decided early on I think because they're each gonna get their own little mini arcs that get em to decide them, but I kinda wanted to know your opinion on what they might end up being? 'Course they'll probably be derived from future plot that we don't know right now, but I wanted to ask anyway!

!!!! I’ve never really thought about Todoroki’s, tbh? So I have no clue, honest, but as far as Bakugou goes I’ll keep on holding onto Ground Zero until Horikoshi officially and unequivocally tells me he 100% definitely scrapped it, my friend - it’s such a cool name??? I read it and I nearly cried when I realized that probably it’s not gonna be his actual hero name rip

Anon said: You need to draw Bok.uro more (i love them so much,(you to of course)

I’m sure you didn’t mean anything bad by this ask anon, but as I’ve said more than once I really, really don’t like the word need. I don’t need to do anything, no one’s paying me for this. When I’ll want to draw more bokro it’ll for sure happen, so don’t worry about that~

You are one of the only people I could find that still really believe destiel could become canon. I'd LOVE for that to happen, but I mean... We've had much more obvious romantic storylines between Dean and Cas before (looking at you season 8), and they still didn't make it canon. I'm really hoping you're right about this, but I don't see why it would happen this season

Hi!

Well, I follow quite a few people who I believe are pretty positive about canon Destiel, but I think the important thing to most of us (including me) is that it is clear to us that the story is there, that we are not making it up.

Whether they decide to follow through on what has been laid down in the text and on screen is another matter and while I am cautiously positive I also am not deluding myself that it is a certainty.

Personally, I don’t have a lot of knowledge of the production side, but from what I can tell since Dabb took over (I believe officially since s12 but really since mid s11) the Dean/Cas story has really ramped up and I can’t believe anyone would be so stupid as to ramp this up without following through at this point. It has already been a PR disaster for the show, Supernatural is the no 1 show that comes up on google when you search ‘queerbaiting’, the fandom is divided, it is a controversial subject. Why would you even touch it with a barge pole let alone increase the subtext and lead it even into the text at this point?

TBH I got to early season 11 feeling like they had decided not to follow through and it was only with the Casifer / Dean’s reaction / Sam’s reaction to Dean story that I started to sit back up and think hang on, I feel like there’s been a turning point in TPTB here and then found out the showrunner had changed? And now we have a whole host of new writers too, under this showrunner, who when he writes, writes AMAZING DESTIEL EPISODES. So perhaps I’m reading too much into it but as this is how I felt at the time it felt like it was kind of obvious to me?

Listing my favourite episodes recently I realised many of them are written by Dabb. Most of these are extremely heavy on Destiel (either between them or by paralleling them with canon couples), so I feel like Dabb gets it and is working towards this as endgame.

So, mid s11 onwards made me sit up and notice this again. Now the story so far this season has heavily rested on focusing on the emotional side of the characters (as Dabb said it would).

With Dean it focuses on the dropping of his façade and his wanting to be honest, also letting go of his brother and letting him grow up. With Sam its his self forgiveness arc and his misunderstanding of his brother. With Mary it’s the guilt. With Cas it’s his sense of belonging and family.

Meanwhile we have whole Cas-centric episodes resting on stories about Angels loving Humans, the whole Lucifer arc rests on the result of ‘love’ between Angels and Humans. The whole BMOL arc rests on (dis)honesty. The honestly arc for Dean, the love arc for Cas - these are things they didn’t have to have the whole season focusing on repeatedly, nearly every damn episode!

Do I think they’ll end this season in each others arms kissing and declaring their undying love to each other? Hell no. I believe in endgame Destiel. In the meantime it’s gonna be painful. Because that’s how narratives like this work and that’s how this show works. But I will be surprised if it’s not endgame given everything we have now seen since mid s11 and the choices they have made regarding their story.

Am I right? Who knows! We shall see!

Honestly though, joking aside, but also in no way to I expect it, I just really want this for this season finale as Cas gets dragged off to I don’t know where ;)

Some unfinished Burrens

Pairing:Aaron Burr/John Laurens
Idea: modern AU in which Aaron is Hamiltons Lawyer and idk I did a long post on this earlier  http://the-corpses-were-fake.tumblr.com/post/158315556021/that-one-1800-something-word-idea-for-a-burrens
Raiting: General
Words: 810
Part: 1/???

The last meeting of the day.
Aaron Burr sighed deeply as he entered the bar Mr. Laurens had told him to meet him at for this conversation.
He was currently deciding whether he should take the case of a certain Alexander Hamilton, who had been accused of embezzling government funds. So far he has only spoken with Mr. Hamilton once and it didn’t exactly go well. He had accused Burr of being immoral and a dangerous disgrace that didn’t care about whether the person he defended was really innocent as long as the price was right to be precise.
Really Burr couldn’t even fathom what would make the man say that about the lawyer he was trying to hire but that’s what he was here for anyway.
He was renowned and wealthy enough to have always picked his cases based on whether he really believed in the persons innocence (despite what Hamilton might have said) but often that was only possible if he talked to people that knew his client.
You could tell way more about a person by how others spoke of them, which was why Burrs first station was Alexander Hamiltons best friend, John Laurens.

So that’s what Aaron was about to do.
It was nearly 6pm and normally he didn’t do business meetings in places like these but Mr. Laurens had insisted on it and Aaron couldn’t quite deny that winning this case, even just working for the Treasury Secretary would do a lot for his reputation.
Even if that meant doing things he wouldn’t usually.

He straightened his tie once again and put on his business smile before he walked into the small pub and looked for John Laurens, which he had until now only seen in pictures.
It was rowdy, more so than Burr had expected and it was interesting to see John Laurens in the middle of it, together with Alexander Hamilton and two other people Burr was sure he didn’t know but would probably meet in the next few days anyway.

Oh how he wished he hadn’t accepted the proposition for this meeting but he couldn’t back out anymore now so he slowly walked towards the group of men and extended his hand to Laurens, who had actually noticed him before he had arrived at their table.
“Good evening gentlemen, I’m Aaron Burr and I’m sure you’re John Laurens. How about we take our own table for this conversation?”, he said smiling his brightest smile hoping that maybe just maybe it would make this whole situation a little easier.

For a long moment it didn’t seem like it would go smoothly.
Laurens just stared at his hand, before he glanced at Hamilton who ignored both him and Burr completely.
This seemed to have been satisfactory to him as he accepted the handshake with a smile while he formally introduced himself.
“John Laurens. I’m glad you could make it and I’ve already reserved a quieter table for us.”

Quiet apparently meant as close to the bar as possible while still sitting remotely out of peoples reach.
As soon as Burr had sat down, Laurens slammed his glass on the table and looked at Aaron as if he was to punch him in the face, which was a face he sees more often than he’d like to admit but it’s still not something he liked seeing this early in a case.
He however didn’t get time to think about it, as his company started talking as soon as he was seated as well.
“Okay listen here Mr. Burr. I don’t care how renowned you are or how much Alex has to pay you if you fuck this up for him or act like he’s actually guilty I will make you regret it through completely legal means so you better not fuck this up , immoral lawyer, Sir. Because Alex wouldn’t do shit like this and you better not be the one to ruin his reputation.”

That caught Aaron of guard.
He was used to people disliking him for some reason or another but it’s the first time his own client thought of him as the bad guy.
In a way that really was ridiculous and after such a long day he couldn’t quite keep himself from laughing.

John watched Aaron warily until he finally composed himself enough to answer the accusations.
“Okay okay slow down. I’m not sure what Mr. Hamilton has told you but I’m not Satan. I choose my clients very carefully on whether or not I believe they’re innocent which is the sole reason for this meeting actually. I’m not going defend Mr. Hamilton if I don’t believe him and I had hoped you as his friend could give me insight on what to think.
But I must say I’m quite interested in these completely legal means to make me regret something.”

@badromantics @burreos   I’m not really a writer because I’m not good at that tbh @-@ but!! I wanted to try anyway because why not I guess….

anonymous asked:

In chapter 60 we see He Tian for the first time. He's not alone but with some other guy. I wonder who it may be and why we don't see that guy anymore. What do you think?

hi, anon!! this reply comes incredibly late, and im really really sorry about it, i can only hope you’re still around to see this!!

okay, so, just to be clear, you mean these two guys, right??

aah, i remember seeing this theory running around in one of my very brief appearances on tumblr sometimes last month, but if i have to be honest i’ve never given much thought to it. now that i had the time to look better at it, i have to say that the black haired guy does resemble he tian a lot, both physically and personality-wise, so it’s definitely possible for that to be he tian’s first official appearance in the story, and if the fandom is considering this canon now, then count me in, im more than okay with this!!

as for the other guy, tho, i don’t think he is particularly important. even if the black haired guy was indeed he tian (and im pretty convinced that he was), this happened back in chapters 60 and 61, while he tian’s real main appearance is in chapter 102. it’s true that old xian used to update more often in the past, but still, a lot of time passed between those chapters, and it’s likely that the idea old xian had about he tian and his story changed throughout the weeks. it’s a natural part of the creation process, and most of the times what you came up with at the beginning turns out completely different once it actually comes the time to put it down on the page. he tian’s story was probably very different at first, and it’s possible that this dude was a big part of it (maybe he tian was supposed to go with him at first, who knows), but then, as the characters took life in old xian’s mind, they realised it wasn’t good, or that they simply didn’t like it, and they decided to change it, and thus tianshan was born

of course, we can’t be sure of anything (not even that the black haired guy was indeed he tian) unless old xian confirms it, and it’s probably never gonna happen, so we’ll probably never really know how things were supposed to go and how much they changed from the original idea, but yeah, i don’t think we should particularly worry about this other guy and why he doesn’t appear anymore, he probably was just written off from the story, or was always supposed to be just a background character. if we are going to accept that the black haired dude was he tian, then im simply going to consider this guy a classmate with which he hung out sometimes, with no particular meaning behind it (i did always find it strange that they never seem to interact with their classmates tbh)

…….unless old xian decides to surprise us all and bring the guy back to create some drama in the future, but there are already so many things on their plate, i really don’t think that’s going to happen. if anyone wants to use him to create headcanons or write fanfictions, though, you’re definitely gonna have my support!!

So I decided to check out the app store for some JLPT apps so I can do those and be productive when I’m on the potty or can’t sleep at night. So far I really like the blue JLPT N1 app and N1 テスト. I haven’t really spent too much time on the others. I tried one of the listening ones…i think it was jlptn1listening? The audio was kind of shitty but maybe that was just my shitty earbuds.
