How Taylor Swift Played The Victim For A Decade And Made Her Entire Career

Ok, so Buzzfeed released this article about Taylor Swift on January 31st and here are some key points that really stood up for me.

  1. On Taylor´s feminism: “But, as the Washington Post pointed out: “There’s a difference between being a feminist and calling yourself a feminist. Feminism is more than just supporting your girlfriends or churning out charming catchphrases about girl power; it’s a political movement, with political aims.”
  2. About Taylor´s squad: And, in actuality, her squad flouts inclusive feminist principles by being an exclusive club, and skews overwhelmingly white, slim, and heterosexual – and this is because Swift views feminism in relation to her own personal experience alone.
  3. Again on Taylor´s feminism: Far from expressing feminist values through actual, tangible means – such as, for example, speaking publicly about Kesha’s alleged sexual assault, offering an opinion on Trump’s campaign and election, or acknowledging the Women’s March through means other than a contrived tweet – Swift invokes feminism to ensure her posture as victim.
  4. On her feud with Katy Perry and the Bad Blood song: Put differently, she prevented the eruption of an undesirable rumour by creating a new one, which reveals Swift’s true genius: her ability to manipulate the lyrics and subjects of her songs in whichever way best suits her PR desires.
  5. On her feud with Nicki Minaj and the lack of recognition for black women in the music industry: Swift has become such an expert at building narratives that she doesn’t just see herself as the victim in stories explicitly about her, but the subject of every story. (…) She prioritised herself at the centre of a struggle faced by women of colour, while ignoring the fact that the system inherently benefits her.
  6. On the feud with Kim and Kanye about that line in Famous: The feud exposed the truth that white fragility is the most imperative component of Swift’s success. Performing white female melodrama has enabled Swift to establish her posture as victim and navigate any conflict with ease, devoid of culpability. But her conflict with West cannot be dismissed as an insignificant celebrity feud, leaving a trail of snake emojis in its wake – there are sinister undertones. It proved that Swift recognised the power her white womanhood affords her – presumed innocence and empathy – and used this to her advantage in repeated acts that she surely knew would damage West’s reputation and strengthen her own. Swift propagating this narrative of fragile white womanhood to villainise a black man is “ruthless” at best, and at worst, dangerous.

I think this article really explains why I don’t really like Taylor Swift and how her playing the role of the victim is really getting old and overused. No one believes she´s the victim and this has been shown ever since the ¨break up¨ with Harry Styles and overusing that one month relationship for over two years. And it became evident to the public how fake she really is with the Kanye and Kim feud and directly after that the whole deal with her ¨relationship¨ with Tom Hiddleston. So I finish this with the final paragraph of the article which summarizes my feelings in general about her.

She’s all about narratives, and the reinvention of her image is the start of a new one. The question is, however, after being exposed playing the victim in plain sight for over a decade, will anyone believe it?

HARRY’S NEW DIRECTION

The meticulously planned debut of the single at 8am on Friday will kick off an Adele-style campaign to establish Harry as the world’s biggest male star. The superfan of David Bowie, Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney wants to be taken seriously as a songwriter and musician – and will distance himself from the teen pop direction of his former band. A source close to the star tells me: “Harry isn’t a typical popstar. This is an art rock project – and he wants to let the music do the talking.” Harry has spent months secretly ensuring that the music has a timeless quality reminiscent of Bowie and Prince at their peaks in the 70s and 80s.

He has rejected the current move towards dance music and his first release will, in fact, run to five minutes long. The song is so shrouded in secrecy that it is on just two iPods, which have no internet connection to stop hackers leaking the tune. Many who have listened to the song have been asked to sign legally binding non-disclosure agreements. Quietly determined Harry has been very personally involved in every aspect of the music, which has been produced by Jeff Bhasker who was behind the international smash hit Uptown Funk. My source adds: “Harry has written the songs and the meanings are very personal to him, based on his life. He has also been playing the guitar and the piano as well. He’s a very modest guy, but it was important to him that this music represented him totally.

Access to Harry is going to be severely limited during the international campaign. The headline-grabbing star is desperate to avoid discussion of his personal life, especially romances with celebs such as Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner and Caroline Flack. And he also wants to avoid any discussion about his relationship with his 1D band members, who he has seen just a handful of times in the year-and-a-half since the split.

Harry has agreed to appear on BBC1 favourite Graham Norton – but he will only perform and not join the other A-listers on the sofa of the hit chat show.
He’ll also appear on US TV institution Saturday Night Live and give one in-depth interview to his BFF Nick Grimshaw on Radio 1 to coincide with the single release.

The source explains: “Harry doesn’t want to talk about his personal life or be asked constantly about One Direction. It’s not his style. He’s spent his entire life having his every move scrutinised. He doesn’t feel the need to do interviews or the promo circuit. There will be a couple of very big appearances to keep TV and radio on board, but it will be very limited and he’s learnt how to say very little. Harry’s idols are people like Bowie and Jagger. He’s closely studied their careers and that’s the direction he is heading in. He loves the sense of mystery they maintained around them.

Harry’s small team of advisers is led by his manager and close friend Jeff Azoff, the son of music giant and Eagles manager Irving. Also intimately involved are Sony Music Entertainment chief executive Rob Stringer and Sony Music UK chairman Jason Iley – a sign in the importance of Harry’s success to the future of the company. He is being advised on PR by Dawbell, the company that also represents Harry’s close friends and personal mentors James Corden and Gary Barlow. Stringer has said of the project: “We obviously want everything to be beautifully done, because we think he’s here to stay. Harry has stepped up with the vision of someone who’s authentic.”

Literally Taylor Swift has not sued a single person, other than the guy that sexually assaulted her. And she certainly has not sued fans. A cease and desist is NOT the same as actually suing someone and taking them to court. In case anyone isn’t aware of what a cease and desist actually is; it’s a letter of demand or infringement sent in order to halt and end any alleged unlawful activity. And by the way, by issuing cease and desists to those who are selling items associated with her trademarks or capitalising on things associated with her, Taylor is simply maintaining her brand from a business perspective.

Beyoncé’s lawyers sent cease and desists to Etsy businesses in order to protect her name and protect her brand, exactly the same as Taylor, but no one is dragging her for it. Kanye West, Dr. Dre and Nene Leakes have all issued cease and desists publicly, and I’d say anyone that has trademarks or a brand attached to their name have done the same thing at least once in their careers.

Additionally, trademarks aren’t something you can pick and choose when to enforce. If you have one, legally you have to enforce it all the time, otherwise large enterprises can say “hey you didn’t enforce it here why are we any different?” You can’t restrict one person from using your trademark or selling things associated with you without restricting everyone. It’s just not how the law works.

And I’d also really like to end the “Taylor Swift sues fans” narrative because it’s fucking stupid and anyone who thinks it’s true is ignorant enough not to know any actual facts.

post breakup AUs

because i haven’t seen enough of these around and i am so here for angst:

  • “today was the first family gathering i’ve been to since we broke up and my little cousin that absolutely adored you asked where you were and i had to lock myself in the bathroom and sit in the tub for a half an hour and look through a folder on my phone of pictures i took of you to feel okay again¨ AU
  • ¨i still have your phone number memorized even though i haven’t called you since we split and somehow i remembered it even though i’ve had like six shots of bourbon and hey, i know you’re pissed that you’re here at this dingy club at 3 in the morning to pick my drunk ass up, but you have to admit that’s pretty impressive¨ AU
  • “i’m pretty sure if taylor swift and i were in a competition of who could write the most breakup songs in one night, i’d win by a landslide because i still set two plates out for dinner even though i eat alone and it’s almost pathetic because we’ve been broken up for ages but i’m still not over you” AU
  • “so i know we haven’t talked in like, two years, and that things ended pretty badly between us but what the fuck do you mean you’re engaged to be married¨ AU
  • “yes, i know this is your sweatshirt and that we broke up five months ago but it’s really comfy okay. i totally don’t wear it because like it still smells like you or is the only thing that even remotely feels like home since i moved out. pfft. absolutely not.” AU
  • “look, i know we agreed to be friends and everything but that’s what everyone says when they break up. i can’t take you asking me for advice on how to ask out the new person you’re interested in, okay? it’s killing me” AU
  • “oh hi, totally didn’t expect to see you here at this one hole in the wall coffee shop literally no one in the entire world besides you knows about. what a coincidence.” AU
  • “it´s my [insert family relation here]´s wedding and seeing all these happy couples is killing me and all i can think about is how this was almost us” AU (bonus: “i know that it’s two in the morning and i’m dressed really formally and a little (a lot) bit drunk but i couldn’t stop thinking about you after my grandma asked how you were doing also can i come in it’s freezing out here”)
  • “i still have your sister’s scarf and i know it’s stupid but i’ve been hoping maybe one day you’ll come by and pick it up so we’ll be forced to talk again because i haven’t seen you in months and i’m maybe kinda sorta still in love with you” AU
  • “i know we were never officially together or anything but seeing that picture you posted on [insert social media] with him/her literally felt like you carved my heart out of my chest and stomped on it and i’m not really sure why i’m leaving this voicemail but my pillow still smells like you and i miss your stupid face” AU
  • “we have a lot of mutual friends so we see each other more than two broken up people usually do and i know we’re not really close anymore but you’re wearing that stupid (adorable) hat you always wore when you were upset so tell me what’s wrong because it’s literally killing me to see you look so sad” AU
  • “so like, i know we broke up and stuff but funny story, i haven’t told my family yet and they just assumed you’d be coming with me for [insert family celebration] and i really don’t know how to tell them and i know this is really selfish but i can’t break my great grandma’s heart like that, she’ll probably have a heart attack and– wait what? you’d do that for me? holy shit, i love you… wait–” AU
  • “i found your box of letters underneath my bed last night and because i’m a nosy motherfucker i decided to read them and it turns out they were all addressed to me and the last one was dated the day you moved out and i’m not quite sure why i thought this would be a good idea but here i am, standing on your doorstep, wondering why the fuck we’re not together anymore” AU
  • “well this is really awkward considering the last time we saw each other, i was screaming at you to never talk to me again, but like, my dog recognized you all the way across the park and literally dragged me over here because she misses you so hi” AU

there’s an old poem by neruda that i’ve always been captivated by, and one of the lines in it has stuck with me ever since the first time i read it. it says “love is so short, forgetting is so long.” it’s a line i’ve related to in my saddest moments, when i needed to know someone else had felt that exact same way.

I found this photo on Meghan Trainor’s instagram. And it really does represent the situation right now.

As I know, one of the victims that had tragically passed away yesterday was not only an Arianator, but also a Directioner, a Mixer and a Harmonizer as well.

So this goes beyond just Ariana and her fans, it’s now all the other fandoms as well, since this happened at one of the special events where artists and their fans get to know each other better.

I’m sending my love and support to everyone, not just the ones involved but the ones who have nothing to do with this. The world relies on us to speak up and spread love.

Stay strong my loves. Please share if you find your fandom and want to send love and support to other fandoms.

Safe And Sound
Pre-T and Post-T Me

Ok, I am so excited about this. As some of you know, I used to be a singer, until I started taking testosterone (I’m a trans man). One of the songs I used to love singing was Safe And Sound by Taylor Swift, and I had a recording of me pre-T singing it. So, I decided to sing a little duet with myself, with my favorite song.

So, here it is. Pre-T Miguel and 4-months-on-T Miguel dueting Safe And Sound. Thank you for the support, and reblogs are appreciated. This one means a lot to me. <3

This is one more week at No. 1 than Taylor Swift, who previously held the record for the second-most weeks in the top spot with 28. Justin Bieber remains in first place with 161 weeks at No.1.

BTS is still freaking killing it and they’re not even trying. This one is all to the Armies who love, listen and support BTS!!!! This one’s for us. But we can’t help it when our kings make bop after bop! I’m so proud of them they are gaining recognition and popularity and just surpassed one of the most socially popular western star ever!!! This is BTS’s era and I couldn’t be prouder!

Teamwork makes the Dream Work!!

I think we all just collectively dreamed up the 2010 album speak now by taylor swift. It just doesn’t sound like something that is OUT THERE and EXISTING in the same universe as us?? Like, no one even knew about Taylor and John Mayer and there she was just explicitly calling his creeptastic ass out BY NAME. Then she told us about her crush on the owl city guy and like WHO SAW THAT COMING?? She legit dedicated a whole song to him and they met like once? Iconic. And let me see her owning her petty ass on better than revenge and dragging both camilla and joe’s mediocre joke of a song all in one track!!! Followed by the sweetest after-breakup song about THAT SAME JOE that any ears will ever hear? Critic who said she couldn’t sing? Torched him. Taylor Lautner’s roses? Left them there to die. But perhaps my FAVORITE part on the whole album is Innocent. The “I forgive you because you’re an overgrown child who i shouldn’t have expected more from” is THE perfect patronizing song for a grown man attempting to steal your thunder. Like the fact that taylor just let it allllll hang out in the open on only the THIRD album of her career, and the fact that she did it all alone???? It just can’t be real

remember when taylor swift walked slowly down the catwalk and stood there strumming her guitar and then with no warning whatsoever the words “i said remember this moment” came out and 30 000 people screamed like they’d never screamed before because taylor swift gave NO WARNING nO nOTHING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING SHE RUINED US FOR ETERNITY
