SoulVibe(s) - Beats and Gil; A Tribute to the Messenger

I’d like to welcome you back to the SoulVibe(s)- Podcast. I’ve been M – I – A for a while enjoying what this early part of the summer has to offer; some travelling, a bit of relaxing, and a lot more new music. I am still busy digging in the record crates and looking for gems. Be sure to listen for a few of my classic pulls throughout the podcast with albums by Afu-Ra, Jeru the Damaja, Artifacts, Grand Wizard Theodore, DJ Shadow, and Vinyl Monkeys.

This month’s podcast is heavy with instrumentals, old school hip hop, underground bangers, and laced with poetry and readings from one of my all-time favorite artists; The Lone Prince of The Revolution - Gil Scott-Heron. Gil’s thoughts and words: provocative, raw, and unforgiving – are mixed throughout the entire podcast alongside and with music from Ab-Soul, Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Pusha-T, Catch Wreck, GZA, and many others.

This show is dedicated to the life and memory of my cousin who recently passed. Elijah Daise, aka Snoop, aka Doom; another king plucked from his kingdom, his family, his friends far too soon. Much love goes out from my heart to his two little boys, his wife, his brothers, and his mother. You may rest in paradise King Elijah, knowing that we will all continue to invest in the legacy you left behind.

I hope that you enjoy this mix and if you have any questions or comments concerning any artist or the podcast in general, please leave a comment below. Be sure to check the back catalog for the other mixes in my Soul Vibe(s) series like Sunday Brunch Vol I and II, Love Sounds, The Minimal Mix and a many others.

erzulie's moonlight

watching the sun set against the backdrop of night; the lust of ebony drips from lips as they wait on the evening sky

silently sitting with mother earth and her moons, eternal bodies blessed with the opportunity to share our first kiss under the stars

like fingers in her hair, I intertwine my words through space and time connecting stars like constellations along her spine; seducing scorpio with a feather and making aries smile

I share the night with my love, dancing together like two butterflies in flight along the path of forever, only stopping to rest on a cherry blossom to bask our wings in the moonlight of Erzulie

The Fall is here. It’s like a patchwork quilt made of orange, red, and yellow hues lying over the trees warding off Old Man Winter.

The Leaves Are Falling Mix represents many of the sounds from my young adulthood till now. This entry of the SoulVibe(s) podcast includes artists like; Larry Heard, Stephen & Damien Marley, Les Nubians, Grover Washington Jr., and Esthero. Each individual artist interprets the fundamentals of rhythm and sound using their own elements of Soul, Hip-Hop, Jazz, House, and Funk.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet

Section 1.10.32 of “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum”, written by Cicero in 45 BC Translated

“But I must explain to you how all this mistaken idea of denouncing pleasure and praising pain was born and I will give you a complete account of the system, and expound the actual teachings of the great explorer of the truth, the master-builder of human happiness. No one rejects, dislikes, or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure, but because those who do not know how to pursue pleasure rationally encounter consequences that are extremely painful. Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure. To take a trivial example, which of us ever undertakes laborious physical exercise, except to obtain some advantage from it? But who has any right to find fault with a man who chooses to enjoy a pleasure that has no annoying consequences, or one who avoids a pain that produces no resultant pleasure?”
