[New Song Of The Week] Honne - Coastal Love

“Honne: The true feelings that you would only show to your closest companions.” The Japanese expression where long-time friends Andy and James take their name from covers the concept of Honne perfectly.
Think Disclosure’s little brothers, but with funky, almost sensual guitar riffs instead of the raw house beats. Excellent electronic music which would make Borat wonder instantly if it is ‘sexy time’ yet. On a scale of R&B smoothness from zero to Chet Faker, these two music teachers score a full Chet Faker. It came as no surprise to find out that Honne’s live shows are over 18s only in the UK. You’d almost feel sorry for their underage students …

Next month the London duo will be supporting soulmate and rising star Kwabs on his UK tour. After that the English festival season calls, with confirmed performances so far at The Great Escape, Live At Leeds and Field Day.

Premiered by Zane Lowe in one of his last ever BBC radio shows, Coastal Love is the first taste of something that will be the duo’s first real EP. After releasing two singles in 2014, the four-track will be out on May Day, also known as International Workers’ Day. Let’s hope it works out well so we can keep calling them Honne.
