Up until three days ago I thought one of my cacti is just that.. a normal cactus, nothing exciting. I found a cutting in a pile of garbage about two years ago and never thought much of it.

Following the appearance of a monstrous bud three days ago and the following bloom of this huge-ass white flower i learned that it is in fact the Costa Rica Night Bloomer, and that it only flowers for one night every few years, which is sad but incredibly special.

Good thing I obsess over all my plants, regardless if they seem noteworthy or not, so i have pictures of its growth stages.

and we’re finally done!!

i tried to make hunk’s the most fun, bc i love him and his sunshine smiles

Do you maybe have any tips for someone who struggles with lining? I feel like no matter what I try it comes out looking fake, if that makes sense? I know practice is the most important, but I'm starting to worry it'll never sink in!

Hmmmm well, the thing about lining is that, as with anything else that’s more relevant to style than to simple universal rules, it has only marginally to do with practice and way more to do with experimenting and finding what works best for you, so any tips I might give you are based mostly on my own experience, what feels comfortable to me, and the type of feel I, personally, want to give my art.

That said, I can still list a couple of things I keep in mind while drawing to end up with a lineart I feel satisfied with! It’s not a given they’ll be useful to you, specifically, but they might help you with figuring out what works best for you, in the end

 • I like to keep the tool I’m using for the line at least marginally semi-transparent, to give a sort of softer feeling to it. Here, on the left is one of the tools I use for filling colors in and the right the one I use to line, to show you what I mean

There’s a number of different ways to achieve this - in SAI you can use the marker, brush or airbrush tools, which are naturally softer looking, or you can use the pen tool and set the layer opacity a little bit lower than 100% (I used to do this, a while back). What ended up working best for me at the moment is a brush tool with an Opacity Mix setting of ~25. The point of keeping the line a bit softer/transparent is to avoid a bit of that “fake” feeling you’re talking about, but it’s absolutely not the only way of going around it - for example, I’ve seen people use a brush set to look like a pencil (so, a bit rougher-looking than the smooth one I use) to avoid the line looking like a compact separation between the various parts of the drawing. Again, it’s all about what feels right to you, you should experiment and play around with the settings till you find something that’s right for you

 • Generally, I avoid using a fully saturated color to line - to make it easy, I try to not use colors that on the square in the middle of the color wheel would rest in any of the corners. This is a good rule to use when picking colors in general (fully saturated colors, unless you’re going for a specific type of effect, tend to look fake and a bit wrong), but specifically in this case it’s a good thing to keep in mind when lining, in my opinion. In my specific case, the fact that I use a semi-transparent tool to line makes it so that black will look dark gray anyway, but you can get the same result with a non-transparent tool by simply straight out picking a less saturated color to begin with. When I mean to leave the sketch in black and white I use the black/gray you see above, while in colored pieces I use a dark, warm brown and set the line layer on Multiply to let it blend better with the other colors

 • Finding a good balance between the canvas size and the brush size helped me a lot with how much I liked the end result of my line. Usually, I use a 4px brush on a canvas that can go between the 1000px and 2000px in both width and length, but that’s just how my tastes are - some artists prefer their lines to be as thin as possible, others prefer theirs bold and obvious. It’s a matter of tastes, so the best thing to do is to try out various combinations until you find the right one for you!

There’s a boy standing in the sky, right in the middle of the stars.
He’s all power,
dripping down his chin,
crackling at his skin
And he’s got a way of walking, like he’s been alive for all the time in the world.
You can feel the way danger clings to him.
It’s in his eyes,
the roll of his shoulders,
In his lips.
He looks at the sky like he could swallow it up.

He says he’s a monster
I wonder
If he is a monster
Why does he taste like hope?

This is Damien of Dream Daddy, I’m going to be dating him when the game comes out. He’s one of my favorites so far okay. I really look forward to dating this Vampire Goth Dad with my Dadsona. (ALL OF THE DADS ARE HOT)
Reasons why Damien is already top tier:
. Nothing pales in comparison to his black fingernails. (They’re Anish Kapoor Black like his soul. Did you know the center of a shadow is the brightest point, like he is on my life.)
2. Black earrings, several fucking cheerings from this flustered gay right here.
3. His shirt frills that pay the bills.
4. His fancy cape, my mouth is agape.
5. He’s wearing purple and gold, I’m sold.
6. His crimson & purple eyeshadow, he’s won.
7. Another perk, those fangs he’s hiding behind his smirk.
8. I can hear his campy anime chuckles and it’s making me buckle.
Okay enough rhyming through my gay musings.
Protect him, his gender expression, make-up, and piercings.
