tangled character design

I did this as a exercise to see how I would have designed Rapunzel for the new tv series, it’s just my take on it.
I really adore the style the tv show has taken, I just wanted to play around.

Today is premiere day and the last of the Tangled drawings I did that I will post for a good long time. More calisthenics… we really worked hard to give Mercury as much information as possible.
While this was a very enjoyable experience for me ultimately I turned down working on the show to continue on with my good friend, Sam Levine, and his show Penn Zero. I look forward to posting some of what we have done on season 2 for that show when the time comes!

If there has ever been a character whom’s character design I just could not stand, it must be this lady. Yeah, I really like Gothel as a villain, but her eyes! I just… no. Never been a fan. (- _ -)

More animated ladies with “realistic” proportions (because why not):

OBS: These edits were created simply to give me a chance to practice my manipulation/anatomy skills. Nothing more, nothing less. They are NOT meant to be “better than the original” or “what it should have looked like”, or serve as a general negative critique on the respective movies’ animation styles. (OK, maybe a little with this one… :P)

Drawing RAPUNZEL! One of my favorite Disney movies. Hope you enjoy it :)

There’s no question that Disney does a lot of things better than DreamWorks, but one thing DreamWorks does far better than Disney is female character design. Seriously, Disney, don’t pretend that it is impossible to give your female characters distinct looks. Stop giving us the exact same face on every single female computer animated character. Your animation is so distinctly beautiful in so many areas, why do you insist on phoning this one in?
