Shengsi, an archipelago of almost 400 islands at the mouth of China’s Yangtze river, holds a secret shrouded in time – an abandoned fishing village being reclaimed by nature. Zombie AU (johnkat, rated T)

This is from an AU I’ve never posted (and is not finished), basically it’s a zombie AU, with John and Karkat as an unlikely duo trying to stay alive. They’ve already been travelling together for quite  a while here.

Down below, leaves crunch underfoot. Somebody’s coming. Somebody alive, the gait is too purposeful and rhythmical to be a zombie.

Karkat, probably, but you carefully shift the rifle to your shoulder and peer through the scope.

It is Karkat, phew. He wordlessly signs for you to drop the rope. You do so, watching it uncoil on the way down to come to a lashing stop about four feet off the ground. As he climbs, you cover his back, rifle ready.

It’s a long way up, the tree is a behemoth, and Karkat’s out of breath by the time he’s close enough for you to offer a hand to help him up the platform. He pointedly ignores it, unable to suppress a grunt as he claws gouges into the wooden planks trying to scrabble his lagging ass over the edge. You pointedly roll your eyes because he’s an idiot.
