Do you honestly believe Ken Penders didn't kill the Sonic comics at Archie? I mean seriously? They had to reboot the whole damn universe and cut out everything he created, with the creations of others cut out just to be safe legally. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Knuckles comic, and many of the things he created. But his ego and greed screwed something I loved. He'll never do anything with the echidna characters he made, and neither will anyone else. As an artist myself it infuriates me.

Man, I don’t even like Penders as a person or as a writer, and I know people make him out to be a boogieman in the fandom

Regardless of your personal taste or any disappointment over the characters and storylines that were dropped after his lawsuits, the comics were doing just fine post-reboot. In fact, as someone who honestly isn’t that involved with the fandom, I saw people talking about the comics way more AFTER the reboot. The Mega Man crossovers got the series a lot of attention, and people loved storylines like the Sonic the Fighters adaptation and Mega Drive, as well as new characters like Gold and the Egg Bosses (especially Cassia, Clove, and Thunderbolt)

The fact of the matter is, while Penders might be the most widely known person to sue Archie, he wasn’t the only one. Even ignoring the lawsuits, Archie as a company has been struggling for years now. There’s simply no evidence suggesting that he’s directly responsible for the cancellation of the comics. Right now it’s all just speculation
