taking the risk and posting this

kiss practice? idk really.

i just think lance deserves the world’s affection and love.

Why are non artists who treat artists like shit, talk down to them, justify the theft of their work, and disrespect their wishes regarding their work so fucking common and when will it fucking end.

If an artist makes a request not to repost (or other request) and your response is “too bad, you posted it online”, you dont deserve to see anyone’s art at all.

Yes, we know its part of the risk. You don’t have to inform us. We KNOW. But dont shit on us for trying to stop it, for talking about how much it sucks and why, and for getting mad when people do disrespect us.

And DEFINITELY don’t use it as an excuse to take advantage of what we provide. Don’t come into our inbox acting like you own our art now that its out there. Like your opinion on how artists should be treated matters more than artists themselves, and tell us we’re being ridiculous for trying to protect our work. Dont tell us to “stop posting if we dont want to deal with art theft and people disrespecting us” just because we decided to make our feelings clear.

Thats such a low, disgusting, disrespectful, EVIL thing to do to an artist and anyone who pulls this shit doesn’t deserve to have art in their lives.

Keiynan Lonsdale, who stars in The Flash on The CW, came out as liking girls and guys in a lovely Instagram post a few days ago. He wrote:

I like to change my hair, I like to take risks with how I dress, I like girls, & I like guys (yes), I like growing, I like learning, I like who I am and I really like who I’m becoming. Spent way too many years hating myself, thinking I was less valuable because I was different.. which is just untrue. A couple years ago I was able to accept myself, & it saved my life, but now I’ve gotten to a new road block & I feel kind of lost. I gotta take the next step & actually embrace who I am, which is pretty exciting. Not faking shit anymore, not apologising for falling in love with people no matter their gender. I’ve become bored of being insecure, ashamed, scared… no one should feel like that about themselves, especially when there is so much good life to live. Ya know more & more I see so many young people being their best / truest selves, it’s fucking inspiring… so what have I been waiting for!? Who knows. Everyone in their own time. I hope we can all learn to embrace who we are & not judge people who aren’t exactly the same as us. The truth is we are all family, we’re all one. Just love. Keiy. ❤

Welcome to the family, Keiy. ❤ (via the Huffington Post)

“Vincent Van Gogh used to eat yellow paint because he thought it would get the happiness inside him. Many people thought he was mad and stupid for doing so because the paint was toxic, never mind that it was obvious that eating paint couldn’t possible have any direct correlation to one’s happiness, but I never saw that. If you were so unhappy that even the maddest ideas could possible work, like painting the walls of your internal organs yellow, that you are going to do it. It’s really no different than falling in love or taking drugs. There is a greater risk of getting your heart broken or overdosing, but people still do it everyday because there was always that chance it could make things better. Everyone has their yellow paint.”

Don’t Get Your Undocumented Friends in Trouble: A How-To
Posted March 2, 2017, written in collaboration with local leaders from the Washington Dream Coalition, an organization led by undocumented youth.
By The Daily Demand

Many US Citizens take our citizenship for granted. It’s something most of us never worry about or think about, and the majority of us have never experienced life without it. As a consequence, we are incredibly out of touch with what privileges come with citizenship and what our impact as citizens can have on our undocumented friends and neighbors.

If we are serious about defending DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) , organizing against ICE raids and detention centers, and exploring other ways to exercise allyship with undocumented folks, there are precautions we must take.

Organizing against deportations and the forces that carry them out is not like campaigning for a candidate, an initiative, or other causes we may all have experiences with- the risk is much higher. While organizing efforts may very well include politicians and initiatives, the nature of the work means that if we are not careful, we can literally get our colleagues, friends, and their families locked up or deported.

*You should not consider the following list legal advice nor an exhaustive list of precautions to take. If there are undocumented people in your lives or on your campaigns, someone should be reaching out to get familiar with their personal boundaries, risk levels, and safety plans.

[Bullet points from the list]:

1. Don’t “out” people who are undocumented.

2. Don’t “out” areas where undocumented people live.

3. Don’t prioritize appearing as though you are “centering those most affected” above not getting those “most affected” deported.

4. Don’t list build if you don’t have to.

5. Protect your lists as if your own deportation depended on it.

6. Don’t put YOUR OWN name on lists.

7. Some things you can do on your own, in secret- and you should.

8. Understand that Homeland Security, ICE, and other federal agencies are not like your local police department.

9. Stop fucking inviting your undocumented friends to the detention center.

10. Do not communicate about sensitive issues around documentation, immigration, etc on phones or digital devices, let alone the internet.

11. This includes your encrypted apps like Signal.

12. This includes your email servers like RiseUp.Net.

13. This includes Slack.

14. I DON’T CARE WHAT YOUR CODER OR ANARCHIST FRIENDS SAID. DON’T TALK ABOUT SENSITIVE SHIT ON THE INTERNET.

15. Do not spread information that you are not COMPLETELY SURE is accurate and verified.

16. Do not post media of undocumented people on social media. Only videotape what is necessary and destroy what isn’t needed.

17. Take the time to understand all the risk undocumented people face and how they are treated differently in the legal system.

18. Don’t ask undocumented people to take coordinated arrests.

Shoutout to fanartists, especially popular ones, attending any cons, there are stories about people offering food with needles inside (pictures in the thread). Be safe, avoid taking food from people you don’t know and report any suspicious activity to any staff you might find.

Warn your friends or anyone you know that might be going to cons and could be at risk

EDIT: This apparently happened in Tawain and at a small con, where security was more lax. Doesn’t seem to be an issue in the Americas, but can’t hurt to be careful.

All that stuff about Sony and Microsoft “respecting their elders” when they make positive social media posts about Nintendo or actively encourage people to buy the latest Nintendo platform as their backup console really cracks me up, because that’s not what’s happening at all.

What’s happening is that Nintendo is the only console manufacturer that’s willing to experiment and take risks with the hardware, and Sony and Microsoft are waiting to see if they’ll come up with anything worth copying. All that “support” is basically the corporate equivalent of going “hold on - let’s see where they’re going with this”.

I mean, of course they “support” Nintendo. Without them, they might have to actually take a chance on trying something original!

“Aces/aros are valid but they’re not LGBT”

I hear:

“Sweetie, we’ll always love you, but we don’t support your lifestyle”

“Love the sinner, hate the sin”

“I’m pro-gay but I don’t believe in gay marriage”

“I’m pro-gay but businesses have the right to choose who they hire and sell to”

“I support being who you want, but I don’t want my daughter having to use a restroom or locker room with a grown male”

“I’m all for them having basic rights, but there are children involved—would you risk having a homosexual teacher take an interest in your child?”

“I don’t care what they do in the bedroom, but I wish they’d stop flaunting it.”

You all grew up hearing these things. You know you’re lying.

Black and Latinx teens, on average, are more vulnerable to the type of abuse that provokes a teen to run away from home because they are more likely to live in high-risk environments. But prevailing narratives that these missing children are just runaways leads to less sympathy and media coverage for them when they are reported as missing.

Take the case of Relisha Rudd, an eight year old who went missing in D.C. in 2014. Her case was almost exclusively covered by The Washington Post, and a handful of local and black news outlets. Cable news did not loop the disappearance of Rudd like they did for the highly publicized cases of Natalee Holloway, Elizabeth Smart or Caylee Anthony.

Little mainstream media coverage is contingent upon the belief that black and brown girls are less valuable, says Hillary Potter, a professor of ethnic studies at the University of Colorado Boulder. And she adds the lack of coverage has another dangerous effect: It can perpetuate the idea that black and brown girls aren’t victimized.

University Tips (non-conventional)

If these help anyone, great!

  1. Set your timetable as your phone background for the first few weeks. Use this method for no. 6 too if you can be bothered.
  2. Wear sports bras/bralettes to lectures instead of the ones with a buckle at the back. They tend to poke and prod your back after a while if you’re leaning back. Sports bras don’t.
  3. Lay a towel on your bed a few days before your period is due. If you leak on a towel you can just wash it or throw it away. Easier than washing and changing the sheets (esp. if you’re in a rush to get to a lecture!).
  4. When you’re in a lecture taking notes on a laptop remember to turn down the brightness on your screen, especially if the lecturer has dimmed the lights. Otherwise you’ll annoy others and drain your battery.
  5. Save your recordings at every given break instead of making one continuous one through pausing. Sometimes files are too large to save and you don’t want to risk losing the entire lecture recording. Save as you go along.
  6. If you need to remember something (e.g. a library book, USB, locker key..) write it on a post-it note and stick it on your shoes before you sleep. Make sure they’re the shoes you intend to wear the next day!
  7. Don’t shoot me: if you have left an assignment really late, stay up as long as you can completing it (yes, that means an all-nighter may be needed). Sleep as soon as you’ve handed it in.
  8. If you use tech in a lecture e.g. phone for recording or electronic notetaking on your laptop, then mess around with it before uni begins. Know what buttons to press and when, otherwise you’ll mess up your notes and annoy others, with your excessive clicking.
  9. Always, always, ALWAYS carry a plastic bag/carrier bag. You might need to make a trip to the library, drink may spill in your bag so you’ll need an alternative. Seriously, just carry one.
  10. Find out where coursework/assignment are submitted within your first week on campus. Ask admin how the procedure works and make sure you know it inside out.
  11. Spend a day wondering around campus (before timetabled lectures start). Find out where the library is, talk to the librarians and ask them how to borrow/return books and also how to reserve!
  12. When you get your timetable be sure to visit the lecture halls and seminar rooms a few days before the term starts so you know where to go. Find out where the toilets are in those buildings too.
  13. Find out where your lecturers offices are. Know the building and floor that they’re on (they’re usually all in the same place).
  14. Carry cereal bars and other non perishable foods that take up little room. Sometimes your tummy rumbles really loud in a lecture, give it some love.
  15. Volunteer in your first year of university, these is the least hectic year (usually!). You want something to put on that CV and those post grad applications!
  16. In the UK the first year generally doesn’t count toward the final degree classification but those grades WILL show up on your transcript. Make sure they look decent. When you apply for post grad courses, if you don’t have the certificate yet (because you’re still completing the course) the university/institution will ask for your grade transcript. First year grades come up first!
  17. A huge part of your degree classification/GPA comes from the final year thesis. Talk to as many older students as you can and ask them what topics they picked and how they went about it. A great thesis/dissertation will literally move you from a 2:1 to a 1st.
  18. When you have a meeting with your supervisor take notes and write up a short summary of what was said, similar to writing up “meeting minutes”. This will be helpful for you and your supervisor. Especially if you take long breaks before meeting again.

I’ll update this list as things come to me. I hope it helps.

So I get asked all the time how I bind with KT tape– which I do pretty regularly.

I cut the strips in half and as you can see they hardly wrap around my ribs at all, and due to the type of tape it is it’s very safe (only real risk is to your skin/nipples due to the adhesive… And your bloodflow to your nipples can decrease over time).* KT tape is thin, flexible, and is meant to increase bloodflow and be worn by athletes for long stretches.

Taping lasts several days for me (even through swimming and showering)– and in the Texas heat this open chest binding is often preferable to other binders for me.

Keep in mind– this WILL NOT flatten you like a binder will unless you have a VERY SMALL chest. My chest is maybe a AA Cup, and is very muscular so this works well for me, and I’m only showing this because I get so many questions about it. Additionally– 1 roll of KT tape is $10-15 depending where you buy it (you can get it at drug stores, target, Amazon, etc), so 3 rolls will cost you the same as a binder would.

If you’re going to use tape, take it off once it starts to peel, and take it off in the shower or with water. Also you can put tissue over your nipples if you need. ((Please don’t follow my lead if this is not going to work for you, but this is my attempt to make sure people tape safely if they’re going to because I’ve done my research and talked to doctors and trainers for their opinions on taping your chest and I’ve seen people attempting to tape with KT tape and using it like an ace bandage wrapped all the way around their ribs which can be VERY DANGEROUS)). *These risks can cause healing post top surgery to have complications.

Looking back

“If I could tell a 15‑year‑old self something, it’d be to try not to care about your appearance. Besides that, I think to always hold on to that sense of childhood wonder, that excitement. I always try to make sure I remember to put that back into my work, to remember that from doing it because I love it, and it’s not just a job, and doing it for play. As an artist, I think it’s incredibly important to hold on to the fearlessness that you have as a child. It helps you take risks in your art.”

In honor of International Women’s Day this week, we are posting quotes from our latest Creative New York interview with Petra Collins, highlighting important issues relating to body image, openness and collaboration, and health care access as an artist. Read the entire interview at nyc.moma.org.

I Am Heath Ledger is a feature length documentary celebrating the life of Heath Ledger: actor, artist and icon. The documentary provides an intimate look at Heath Ledger through the lens of his own camera as he films and often performs in his own personal journey - extravagant in gesture and in action. It was his creative energy and unshakable willingness to take risks that instilled such an extraordinarily deep love and affection in the people that entered his life. Heath’s artistic nature and expression set him apart from the Hollywood mainstream, vaulted him to stardom and endeared him to the world.

I Am Heath Ledger premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival on Sunday, April 23rd.

some voltron future season predictions for literally no other reason than potential gloating rights a year and a half from now:

  • each of the voltron lions were forged on different planets and made from unique materials.
    • ala black lion = guardian of the sky; came from a meteor that crashed on the Galra home planet
  • one of the lions will be badly damaged and they have to take it back to it’s home planet for repairs
  • haggar has a strong personal grudge against allura (or alfor) and thats why she turned against altea
    • possibly also an evil aunt, just saying
  • keith’s dad is not only still alive but hiding out somewhere in space, I would put money on him showing up in person in future seasons.
    • this would also go along with the ‘keith’s dad left him’ theory since he might have literally just been carried off into space.
    • he’s probably still kinda an asshole tho
    • i don’t trust him
  • another one of the original voltron paladins is alive, possibly a recluse in some far corner of the galaxy
    • possibly one of those crazy wise old people that teach life changing lessons to those they encounter.
    • i hope it’s the blue paladin and lance
  • alfor survived the attack on altea. we didn’t see him die so in my book, he ain’t dead. at the very least the time between when alfor put allura in the pod and when altea was destroyed is important and what happened there will be revealed to us before the end of the show.
    • he even says ‘if all goes well i will see you again soon’ to allura right before he knocks her out !!! that man had a plan !!!!!!!!!!!
    • coran was probably in on whatever alfor did bc he was put into the cyropod after allura, likely on alfor’s request to watch after her.
  • Hunk is going to go through some kind of heartbreaking tragedy that becomes his will to fight
    • I say this because Hunk is the only one of the paladins who doesn’t have a Reason for doing what he is doing yet. (Shiro = revenge on zarkon, keeping his team safe, + just being the kind of good person who literally wouldn’t rest until he knew the galaxy was safe. Lance = his desire to protect earth and to return home to his family. Keith = his quest for knowledge about himself and his past, Pidge = her need to rescue her missing family members, ect.) so maybe his Reason™ is actually going to happen real-time, all the more heartbreaking.
  • Lance and Keith will get stuck alone together somewhere and have to work as a team to make their way back to the ship.
    • it will be gay.
    • they will bond and lance will actually remember it this time
  • Lance will attempt to sacrifice himself for one of his team members
  • A paladin (probably Keith) will run away and then proceed be tracked down mercilessly by the rest of the team and there is a heartfelt reunion scene where at least 2 people cry (not including me)
  • somebody important to Keith dies. likely his mom or dad. because he’s tragic like that.
    • listen the fuck up it better not be shiro because i will FIGHT
  • Pidge will find Matt but not her dad. they have to team up to save him.
    • alternatively: they find Matt but he doesn’t remember anything about Pidge or himself (just like how Shiro still hasn’t regained all his memories but Worse)
  • Lance accidentally commits some kind of grave alien cultural offense and gets thrown in space jail, the team has to spend the rest episode working to save him before he’s executed.
    • Lance befriends his cellmate who turns out to be the Important Person the team came to find in the first place.
  • Keith gets attached to a cute, tiny alien pet and immediately risks his life for it
  • Kaltenecker returns, she lives in the castle in her own grazing pasture. Lance takes care of her and has full on conversations with her daily. like a living cow diary.

that’s all tune in next season to see if i bathe in the fountains of glory or return a Fool to my people

BTS as Hogwarts Students

Gryffindor values bravery, daring, nerve, and chivalry.

His favourite subject is Apparition. It is a course that has many risks if not performed correctly. Even though there are some dangers and it is described by many as uncomfortable and not worth it, he is not afraid to take the course. He is naturally brave and daring which will make him try and in turn succeed. He will be the only student who succesfully transported without any backlash in their first try. Will probably use this power to sneak into his friends’ dormitories and get in trouble afterwards.

His wand is a Cedar Dragon Heartstring.

Hufflepuff values hard work, dedication, patience, loyalty, and fair play.

His favourite subject is Charms. This course requires precision and correct wand movements, something that often does not come naturally. His hardworking nature, patience and dedication would make him practice regularly untill he perfects every move. He is the best in his class and will secretly receive more difficult charms to keep him entertained and quiet during class. Will probably have to show his friends how to do the movements correctly so they do not fail.

His wand is a Dogwood Unicorn Hair.

Slytherin values ambition, cunning and resourcefulness.

His favourite subject is Potions. Even though this course is meant to teach students how to correctly brew them, he will see this as an opportunity to experiment with different ingredients. He will easily get bored with the regular potions and will try to make new ones. Because he is naturally resourceful and clever he will quickly learn how to make even the most advanced potions. Will probably end up making a dark potion by accident after snooping in some forbidden books.

His wand is a Maple Dragon Heartstring.

Ravenclaw values intelligence, knowledge, and wit.

His favourite subject is Transfiguration. This course is the most complex and dangerous one. This type of magic is concidered a lot of hard work and is more scientific than any other course. The student has to get it exactly right for the transfiguration to be succesful. Because of his intelligence and knowledgeable nature he will be the first student in his class who can pull it off without fail. Will probably turn one of the people he dislikes into a mouse.

His wand is a Ebony Phoenix Feather.

Hufflepuff values hard work, dedication, patience, loyalty, and fair play.

His favourite subject is Care of Magical Creatures. His kindhearted and caring nature will make him excell in this course. Because the class teaches students how to properly feed, maintain and care for these creatures he will want to go search for one to keep as a pet. His professor will scold him for trying to remove a creature from its habitat but will secretly teach him tricks on how to keep it hidden in the dorm. Will probably encounter a unicorn once and will fall off after trying to mount it.

His wand is a Pear Unicorn Hair.

His favourite subject is Alchemy. This course is a combination of potion-making, transformation magic and philosophy. He is clever and ambitious, two traits that come in handy when someone studies this course. He is excellent in transmutating different substances into pure gold. His intelligence will also help him in his study of the four basic elements and the alchemical literature. Will probably turn his friends’ possessions into pure gold or silver for fun.

His wand is a  Alder Phoenix Feather.

Gryffindor values bravery, daring, nerve, and chivalry.

His favourite subject is Defense Against the Dark Arts. He is very quick to learn how to use offensive and defensive magic. He will win every duel he competes in, to the point where his classmates no longer want to challenge him. He will practice every day to become powerful so he can protect his friends. Even though he is one of the younger students in his class, he is one of the most talented. Will probably beat the best student during his first duel.

His wand is a Red Oak Unicorn Hair.
