I'm sorry but I think you're taking this way too far. Rhett made a joke that y'all blew out of proportion. It's just as disrespectful to guess someone's sexuality as it is to guess someone's mental health.
That’s just like, your opinion, man.
Well, what are you assuming, anon? You think we’re wrong to think Rhett could be bi, surely you must think something too. Do you think he’s straight? If so, I’ve talked about how it’s problematic to assume someone is straight and the toxic nature of the “straight by default mentality”. So go ahead and read that.
I’m just going to state my opinion of assuming sexuality; to say that it’s disrespectful to think of someone as not straight is to say that a queer identity is something bad and shameful. There is nothing wrong with thinking Rhett might be bi. Because there is nothing wrong with being bi. I’d also say that equating sexuality and mental health is very problematic. I know that in Sweden in 1979, people would call in sick and say they were just too gay to come to work. It was a protest against gay being considered an illness. I sure do hope we’ve come further than conflating queer sexuality and mental illness by now, don’t you, anon?
