take me back to broadway and put me on a stage

Some of the best things I’ve heard in Heathers rehearsal so far:

  • “Oh no! My shirt, where’d it go?” followed by really slow and awkward finger guns
  • “Free pizza, and we don’t even have to buy it a pussy!”
  • “Those stupid tree thumpers”
  • *dramatically pirouettes and leaps in* “BIG SWORDFIGHT IN HER MOUTHHH”
  • “Aww that seems like a relationship that would last.” “Yeah until one of them blows up” “I guess you could say their love is….. explosive”
  • *Our choreographer screaming like one of those sheep used in parodies back in vintage youtube days whenever she gets frustrated or needs to get people’s attention.*
  • “So you’re going to do a Jesus lift” “A WHAT” “Just put your arms out and they’ll lift you like you’re Jesus resurrecting from the cross”
  • “Welcome to Newsies on steroids.”
  • “Be the closeted gay we all need.”
  • “The first step to any good plan is murder.”
  • “How much bitch is enough bitch though?”
  • “Imagine having to explain to someone like ““oh how’d you break your tailbone?” ““Oh I booty-popped too hard.””
  • “When we go off to makeover Veronica, can she still have the monocle, but, hear me out, it’s now bedazzled.”
  • “I have to check the historical accuracy of bedazzling in the ‘80s.”
  • “Okay, but what if we made it gay?”
  • “COSTUME NOTE: SOMEONE MAKE RAM PARTY SLIPPERS!” “What if they’re like bunny slippers, but with tiny party hats?!”
  • “This is Ram, he’s not very nice, but somehow my best friend still wants to fuck him.”
  • “Your whole bio better be about how much you love and respect women or else I can’t help you when your ass is being kicked.”
  • “I paired you guys together because you say he’s your sort of boyfriend later.” *Kurt proceeds to emark in various sexual dance endeavors with multiple other women* “That’s where the sort of comes into play….”
  • “SHUT UP HEATHER” *bursts out crying*
  • Our original Chandler dropped out so our original Duke got promoted to her role and just looks at me and says “Oh my god this is the most Heather Duke thing that has ever happened to me”
  • “That’s a school cheer?!?!”
  • “Real question: WHO HAS A FUCKING LOCK ON THEIR CLOSET?”
  • “What if when she makes you spit up the pills, your wig flies off?” “Oh no you’ve discovered the real reason behind my crisis, I AM NOT A NATURAL BLONDE”
  • “Maybe he should take up knitting or something as a hobby rather than therapedic murder.”
  • “The saddest thing is that’s not even 3rd base”
  • “Veronica, you’re soaking wet!” *cue our assistant stage manager loosing her shit*
  • “My character description is just internal screaming.”
  • “Who needs a dance partner when you have weed?”
  • “I feel bad having to ask but was that supposed to be a dick joke?”
  • “Do I get extra points if one of the pills hits someone in the face?”
  • “I can’t remember the lyrics but I’m pretty sure I’m still gay”
  • “Why didn’t they just throw the bomb and run or something, like why are they so determined to die?”
  • *recites Blue Reprise as demonic slam poetry because we didn’t have rehearsal tracks yet*
  • “Veronica, it’s not a phase. I’m just naturally a slightly psychotic bag of angst with great hair.”
  • *music director teaching us Blue* ”They’ll curl up on your face. And purr like-” *slowly looks up from music and proceeds to put his head in his hands* “There’s moments that I evaluate my life and this is definitely one of them.”

And we’re still about 3 weeks from tech week

Boyf Riends Proposals HCs (Part 2: Jeremy)

Jeremy’s Proposal:

- Jeremy gets really popular with his amazing music. Most of it growing from YouTube.

- And Michael (of course) usually helps Jeremy write the songs.

- And such a demand and success becomes enough for Jeremy to go on a nation-wide tour.

- Of course, Jeremy is excited! However, it lasts several months. And Michael has his own job (as a video game developer) so he can’t go with him.

- But they decide that they will make it work. They call or Skype every day. And sometimes Michael flies out to see shows and tours with him for a couple of days.

- Especially for anniversaries, birthdays, etc..

- And it’s the final concert. And it’s a tradition with bands for their final concert to be in their hometown.

- So Michael goes to the concert of course. But doesn’t use his backstage pass because he wants to see Jeremy shine and all that. And he mostly wants to do that in the crowd.

- For more background (cuz I can’t help myself).

- So none of Jeremy’s fans knows that he’s bi. But they do know about Michael from a couple pics on Instagram.

- But only a few have actually theorized that they were a couple (like very few).

- Most people did think that he and the ever-popular broadway actress Christine were dating though.

- And it was even brought up in an interview.

- “So, you know the famous Christine Canagulia right.”

“Well, yeah, that’s right.”

“Well, your fans and our viewers out there have been wondering… are you two in a romantic relationship?”

Jeremy laughs, “Funny you should ask that. I’ve know Christine since middle school. She even got me into acting in high school. We did date for a little while our junior year, but it didn’t work out as we were both were trying to figure out ourselves.”

- People also theorized he was bi or pan. But Jeremy never gave any hints of sorts.

- Closest thing was that in June he would post something supportive of the lgtb+ community for PRIDE Month.

- And the couple of die hard fans who followed Michael on Instagram knew that Michael was very much gay and proud of it.

- But that was it.

- It’s the last song. And after it ends, Jeremy is suppose to say good night and etc.. but he doesn’t.

- “I know that I’m suppose to say good night and everything. But I have a new song and… I kinda want to play it. Since it’s the end of the tour and all.”

- People are cheering of course. Cuz a new song??? Omg!!!

- Jeremy then has to set it up since he isn’t using his piano and it seems very last minute. And people up close could tell he was shaking and that he was nervous. But it doesn’t take to long for there to be a stool and him sitting holding a ukulele.

- “God, I’m nervous.” He’s about to play, when he suddenly stops.

- “Oh, I forgot the most important part, jeez, haha. Sorry.”

- The crowd laughs but are confused on what he is forgetting.

- “I… wrote this song for someone. And, I know you’re out there. You goof.”

- Of course Michael fuckin knows it’s him immediately and is like… what’s going on???

- “And yeah, I’ve written you songs before. But, I didn’t tell you about this song. I… actually wrote it after you came for our anniversary.”

- People then are screaming at the revelation that Jeremy had been in a relationship.

- “And we’ve been best friends for years! And you have always been there for me. I wouldn’t be here. Yes Heere ha ha. If it wasn’t for you.”

- He then, of course, starts to cry. “I can’t imagine the rest of my life without you. You not being on tour with me showed that to me. I missed you. My best friend, my partner, my co-writer, the love of my life. My player one… You… better be up here when I’m done playing this or I’m probably gonna lose it.”

- He then starts playing the most beautiful song (and it then becomes really famous and popular later).

- Michael is crying and he manages to get on stage at the last chorus. Which Jeremy sings straight at him.

- Which of course people are freaking out about who it is.

- During said chorus, Jeremy is then standing with ukulele. But then kneels down in front of Michael near the end. With Michael covering his mouth with tears coming down his face.

- Once it ends, Jeremy puts down his ukulele and Michael thinks he is gonna come up and hug/kiss him. But Michael gasps (and everyone else) when Jeremy instead reaches for his back pocket.

- The crowd themselves can’t hear him very well since they are freaking out. But Michael can hear him loud and clear.

- “Be my Player 1 forever, Michael Mell?”

- Michael cries but nodded, and Jeremy puts the ring on Michael’s finger and kisses him on stage.

- Afterwards, Jeremy is known as a bi-icon and becomes even more popular. Michael ends up helping him write more and ends up doing duets with him.

AND WITH BOTH OF THESE SCENARIOS THEY LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTERRRRR!!!!!!

Part 1: http://thealienwiththeflowercrowns.tumblr.com/post/165637530003/boyf-riends-proposals-hcs-part-1-michael-okay

“Deconstructing Patti”

I was lucky to attend Deconstructing Patti tonight and it was a TRIP so I am writing this entire fucking research paper so all you guys can live vicariously through me.

-First thing, because I know this is what y’all came to hear: BI COMPANY! It sucks that Joanne won’t be a lesbian, but Patti says there is at least one gay pairing with the other suitors. Joanne will have a much, much younger husband. Either they haven’t finished re-writing or Patti just doesn’t have a script yet because that’s all she knows. They start rehearsing August 6th of 2018.

Also to keep you on your seats, RAUL ESPARZA SHOWS UP, CHRISTINE EBERSOLE SHOWS UP, HOWARD MCGILLIN, MORE

NOW FROM THE BEGINNING:

-Patti pre-recorded the “no taping, no cellphones message” with a wonderful snarl on cellphones then says, “but disregard that entirely, have a ball tonight” but I still didn’t see A SINGLE CELL PHONE the entire time. No one was willing to risk that shit, even with express permission from Patti herself.

-She looks fucking amazing. I’ve only ever seen her in costume on stage before. She had on a short little sparkly blue dress with long sleeves. Her hair looked fantastic. Incredibly hard to believe she’s 68. She starts with Some People and the vibrato is A+++

- PATTI NEEDS A HIP REPLACEMENT. So it turns out this is the big reason she was not planning on doing musicals after War Paint. She had sort of hinted at injuries and age, but it’s actually quite severe. She really could not walk well tonight and it was kinda heartbreaking because she looks and acts so youthful. She had a painful looking limp. At the same time, she refused to change out of her very high heels. She had brought out flats just in case and Seth encouraged her to change, but she would rather limp fabulously. Incredible.

- She picked up Company because of Marianne Elliott. She wants to work with female directors. Late career Patti is a hardcore feminist.

-Christine comes out for “Face to Face”. She looks gorgeous. Scott Frankel comes out to play piano very  impressively.

Christine: “How much do we love Patti?” Lots of Applause.

Patti: “How much do we love Christine?” Lots of Applause.

Patti, semi-jokingly, looking at Christine, in low, sultry voice: “How much do we love each other?” Me: dies. Fucking fan service, Patti LuPone.

Christine talks about how one of Patti’s massive Helena necklaces fell apart during the final scene of War Paint a few days ago. At first, it just dropped to the ground. Patti tried to stuff it in her purse but it didn’t fit. She’s struggling with it so she leaves it on the table. It’s like a triple strand of pearls and they are falling everywhere intermittently, like punctuation to every line. Plunk…plunk……plunk plunk plunk. It’s a total mess and the stage is covered in pearls. Christine gets to the line where she guesses what’s in Helena’s lipstick, beeswax, etc…and freshwater pearl for shine and the audience dies.

- PATTI’S HELENA DIARY:

When Helena is “writing” in War Paint, Patti actually writes a diary about the audience and stuff. She’s got a huge stack of pages from the beginning of the run. A few paraphrased excerpts:

My personal favorite: “Han… what does this say? Hangover Tuesday. Oh..”

“Tina Fey in audience today, we’re saved” sarcasm hahaha

“That’s just a doodle”

“This Great Comet drama is EXCITING *Patti cringes, next one is also about Great Comet* “Okay I’m not reading those” (omg)

Seth takes this huge stack of pages and auctions it on stage for Equity Fights Aids.

Patti adds, “Wait, how much would you give if I read all of them to you over drinks at the St. Regis?”

Seth: “You get Patti’s stack of notes. Please put them on Instagram. There’s many inappropriate ones she refused to read. Also, Patti LuPone herself will read her notes to you over dinner.

Patti: “Not dinner.” (She’s not buying you dinner LOLOLOL)

SOMEBODY PAID $7,000

- Seth: “Patti has a lot of feelings about the President”

-Patti tells a story about working as a waitress at a skeevy bar with some skeevy guys in college, one of whom somehow got them down into the foundations of Juilliard and stuck a gun into the small of her back, sort of jokingly to scare her. She hears herself telling this story, “Wow, I am the picture of class”

-Howard McGillin, Billy to Patti’s Reno in the 1987 Anything Goes joins Patti on stage, they sing “You’re The Top” together. Seth asks Patti how she came up with the sexy Reno characterization.

Patti: “It’s inherent in the lyrics. Like Blow, Gabriel Blow” *Audience Laughs*

Patti: Oh, that’s not what I mean. Oh! I mean the lines “Good by day, good by night in that song”

Oh my god, not BLOW Gabriel. Oh, no.

Seth: What’s sexy about good by day, good by night?

Patti: You know!

Seth: I don’t!

Patti: She’s good by day and …good….by night, oh, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!

-Patti’s drinking a huge glass of Prosecco:

She sips happily for awhile. “Oh, I feel sick from the wine”. Getting a little clumsy.

10 minutes later: “Never mind, I feel good now. It’s like when you have a drug and you’re like ugh this is awful, give me another!”

30 minutes later, she’s polished off most of her wine, the third encore is “With One Look”, she gets one bar in, stops abruptly: “Oh, I have to burp, I’m sorry”. Audience dies.  She’s so embarrassed. So cute hahahaha

-Patti on her Glenn Close rehabilitation:

I didn’t want to sing Sunset, because I didn’t want people to think there are sour grapes. It’s Glenn’s role in New York. Mine in London. So I wasn’t gonna sing it in New York *pauses, thinking*… so I’ll sing the London version *laughter*

- Starts choking up when talking about the ephemeral beauty of theatre (good vocab word, Patti) and how it exists mostly in memory

-Patti talked about how she loves imperfect voices with soul a hundred times more than a perfect instrument with no feeling. Perfect voices are nothing without soul, but also people who sing with soul must be imperfect. Interesting. That’s why she doesn’t like to listen to a lot of today’s Broadway singers. She listens to Joni Mitchell.

-She made the final call back for the Sweet Charity national tour at 17, but didn’t get the part. She never booked any professional rolls before Juilliard. Patti: “Do they still even do cattle calls?” Seth: “Yes, people still audition, Patti. Omg.”

- The Magaldi guy from the Deconstructing Patti London concert YouTube video, flew out to NY to serve as random Magaldi guy again when Seth called him. A couple of us asked for his autograph and he absolutely flipped a shit he was so excited “THIS NEVER HAPPENS IN LONDON”

-Che was sung by Raul Esparza for several songs. “Well this is a fucking dream come true” he said about singing with Patti. There was also an original Evita cast member who sang the word HAIR in

“Eyes, hair, mouth, figure
Dress, voice, style, movement”

He joins them on stage to sing the word HAIR in “Rainbow High” He is my new hero. She struggles a bit with Rainbow High “Well, there’s one for my next voice lesson”

-Frances Ruffelle, the original Eponine on the West End and Broadway, came out to sing with Patti. She didn’t sing very well, but Patti was very emotional to hear her sing again

-When Patti was in the chorus for the barricade scenes in Les Mis she had to pick a “job”. She really did not want to be in the chorus so she just picked what the guy next to her was doing which was smelting She wasn’t even really sure what a smelter does so she goes out there and pantomimes smelting some hot metal over a bale of hay. The director is like “Patti, you’re an idiot”. The next night, she goes out there and smelts over the hay again, pretends the hay caught on fire, and spends the scene silently putting out her hay fire

-She doesn’t really like the current production of Hello, Dolly! because she does not like how it’s a recreation of Carol Channing’s productions without any new discovery for the actors allowed by the director

-Patti: “You used to be able to get to the theatre. Now Times Square is all focused on a Hershey bar!” Seth: “A Hershey bar? A single bar?”

-Sings “Trouble” from The Music Man 10x better than in the YouTube video. FANTASTIC.

-Seth talked a lot about how a lot of her habits would be considered unprofessional, like how she always looks out at the audience before shows.

Patti: That’s not unprofessional!

Seth: It is. You peering out with your Evita wig on!

Patti: Yeah, well with Evita, I would get caught! People would wave to me so I’d just wave back!

Well, I want to see the guy who hates my guts, who will be the hardest to convince. I want to play to him. At this show, I looked out and saw everyone fanning themselves. So I went back and said TURN UP THE AC THE PEOPLE ARE HOT OUT THERE. You gotta take care of your audience.

-Patti on Lack of Common Sense (paraphrased): “I’ve never had any savvy-dressing for auditions, re-booking canceled flights. I thought I was supposed to stand behind the taped line in the A Chorus Line theatre at my Evita audition, so I took a big step in front of it. It was just the line in A Chorus Line. My brother was in A Fucking Chorus Line. I’d seen it. Several times. Still didn’t make that connection. Yet, I heard about auditions and things. Not sure where I found out about that stuff at all! That’s how you know it’s meant to be. I just found out about these casting calls even though I was clueless.

-Patti and Seth fight over ALW:

Seth: He’s great [in Evita].

Patti: *Makes disgusted face*

Seth: No this really is great.

Patti: It’s not.

Seth: Turn her mike off.

-She ends with the Ladies Who Lunch. You can tell she’s working on her character for the revival. It’s very different from her Lonny Price version, seems much darker and more subdued. I’m excited to see what she develops.

-I’ve heard her live before but it’s still such a shock to me. Her voice is nothing short of incredible. Her high tones are less crystalline in her older age, but her low tones are so much richer. I thought her voice sounded a little raspy, like she was losing it, but it didn’t keep her from hitting any of those belts (except Rainbow High, which was kinda mean of Seth lol) I’m going to War Paint closing night in December. She didn’t come out the stage door tonight so I have my fingers crossed for December.

Hope you guys feel like you were there with me! I know a lot of you wish you could be there so I wanted to be thorough. Let me know if you have any questions!

No Need To Knock

Because I’ve written a bit of Virgil looking after Roman, now it’s Roman’s turn! <3 Also on a03 here.

Roman is incredibly nervous. It’s a feeling he’s been getting too familiar with- and of course there was that dreadful spike in Anx-Virgil’s room, and ever since then it’s crept up more insistently than on average.

“Uh, Roman?” Virgil’s voice is loud, with a slight echo, and Roman cringes at how he automatically flinches away. “I can hear you pacing a mile off, just come in, no need to knock or anything.”

Roman clears his throat and shifts on the balls of his feet, keeping himself in limbo, just outside of Anxiety’s room space. “I-uh- no offense, Hot Topic, but I’d rather stay put.”

He can practically hear Virgil’s answering eye roll. “Of course, I know the doom and gloom is a bit much.”

“No! Well- yes, sometimes, but I meant-” He scrubs underneath his eyes in paranoia, but there’s no eyeshadow. He gathers a bit of courage. “I’m feeling rather… unsure and I think going in your room would… heighten it. That is- I don’t want to put you to any trouble.”

Suddenly, Anxiety is in front of him, a crease between his eyes. “You’re feeling ‘unsure’,” he echoes, complete with hesitant air-quotes.

Roman fights with his instinct to act affronted and storm away. Instead, he says, “I’m just a bit worried. About- about you, I mean.”

He didn’t realise how easy it was to make Virgil look absolutely flabbergasted. His mouth gapes open. “Um, well, that’s…” He scratches the back of his neck. “New?”

Emboldened by the lack of sarcasm, Roman continues: “Look, it’s just- you’ve been in your room. A lot. And, yes, I get it, familiar bubble yada yada, but it’s- I’ve noticed it’s been a bit. Much.”

Virgil is biting his lip. “You noticed all that, huh?”

It still floors Roman how shocked Virgil can sound. “Look, Patton and Logan noticed too but they- they didn’t want to push you. And- and neither do I but-” He sighs. “I don’t like the thought of you cooped up in there when you don’t want to be.”

Virgil blinks. He makes a quiet humming noise, very similar to when he revealed his name, and Roman doesn’t really know how to react. He sounds anxious, there’s no other word for it, and the last thing Roman wants is to make things worse.

“Listen, I was only wondering if you’d rather visit my room for a bit?”

He almost laughs at how Virgil’s mouth immediately drops open again. He scoffs, but Roman is beginning to recognise when it’s just a front. “Is that a request or a demand, Sir Sing-a-Lot?”

“An invitation.”

Virgil rubs his temples in thought. “Not that I’m saying no but… aren’t you concerned about what might happen?”

Roman tilts his head. “What do you mean?”

“Well, what if I ruin it? I don’t know what’ll happen, what if I start….um, turning the walls black or melting your Disney posters or-um-”

Roman shrugs. “You didn’t worry about us messing up your room, why should I?”

Virgil pauses. “True, but… but what if-”

Roman cuts him off with an extravagant hand-wave. “Trust me, if my room starts looking like a Dementor’s hit it, I’ll send you packing.” Then, at Virgil’s panicked look, he adds: “I was joking, Virgil. It’ll be fine. Besides, if you could conjure up more Nightmare Before Christmas posters, that’d be flippin’ sweet man.”

Virgil half groans, half laughs. “Nice try.” He swallows. “Alright, then. Okay.”

Warnings: little bit of swearing. tom’s a bit of an ass in this, which is in no way indicative of what I think he’s like in real life!

summary: you didn’t make it to broadway by the age of 19 by slacking off. it seemed like tom, on the other hand, had gotten everything you could’ve ever wanted without much work at all, and nothing pissed you off more. Comet is the only thing I care about if it doesn't win I'm gonna cry

Like. I can’t even explain it I’m too invested in this show. I’m going to infodump about it because I’m so sad that DEH might beat it out for the tony and it doesn’t even deserve to.

-While you are walking in it gives you a Cold War / modern Russia vibe. The walls of the imperial are covered in posters and I remember reading the word pussy a lot which made me happy.
- The guy at the merch stand was so sweet! No one else was there yet so I just was like “ are you open?” And he helped me pick a shirt ( the red shirt with the family tree/ prologue lyrics was his favorite and I bought it bc I love it too.)
- All the ushers were so nice! I was wearing a shirt that said “ so broke can’t pay attention” and a lot of them read it and told me it was funny.
- the usher for my actual seat talked to me about DEH and I told her I loved it but it annoyed me when everyone kept saying ’ oh yeah it has 9 tony noms’ and I was like “ well… comet has 12!” And she laughed and we Bonded™
- did I mention I was alone for like the first hour I was in the theatre because I ran in at 7 without my mom and sister. They wanted to eat their food and I was like “NO COMET”
- I was hungry because I’d skipped dinner?? The comet gods threw food at me.
- The girl who talked to our section was the best. Also I was the only person who read war and peace in my section which made me feel Important™
- Natasha’s “NO!” When Andrey tells her he’s going off to war and prologue starts
- the door!!!
- o Sonya
- private and intimate life gave me chills. Gelsey Bell gives me chills. She was so genuinely scared and I just wanted to run down there and hug her and tell her it would all be okay.
- an old woman was chose for bolkonsky’s lover and she was so happy it was so sweet
- “I KNOW THEYLL LIKE ME!” *pause* “EVERYONE HAS ALWAYS LIKED ME!”
- getting stools into those tables took a little while but it was the best thing I ever saw.
- no one else was so powerful. It’s one of my favorite songs that I’ve like, ever heard, and Denee rocked it. Honestly the little things I noticed from her I applied to my singing it ( it’s a song I’m working on in vocal) and it helped so much. God bless Denee Benton.
- The opera was AWESOME. Gelsey again as opera singer made me die. Her voice is so strong and good and perfect.
- stop touching dolokhov stop touching dolokhob Helene stop stop stop
- the whole “ where is dear Pierre” thing with Marya gently reminding Helene that she IS married to Pierre made me smile
- WHEN THE RIP TBE BLOOD OFF ANDREY I CRY
- Anatole get back behind that door you little shit
- you are not allowed to walk down stairs like that Anatole stop
-Helene please stop looking at your brother like that he’s your brother stop
- Natasha stop looking at him
- Anatole stop looking at her
- stop whispering in french Anatole you smooth fuck
- GIVE HER HER FLOWER BACK ANATOLE PUT IT BACK PUT IT BACK PUT IT BAAAAAAAAACK.
- you will NOT go to that ball Natasha u sit down and pick up a coloring book or something you literal child
-when Pierre says “ oh dear Andrey’s betrothed.” Anatole shakes his hand and goes “ ehhh ” like he’s saying not for long
- the entire scene before the duel hurts so much Pierre doesn’t understand except he does
- *shot comes from Fedyas gun* Pierre, with his arms out ready to die stays still for a few beats before doubling checking to make sure that he has indeed survived
- HELENE LOOKS SO PISSED AT HIM.
- dust and ashes is my anthem I have never related to anything so hard. Protect Pierre. Get him medical help. I want to see him loved.
-DENEE BENTON STRIPPING-ISH ON STAGE TO JUST A CORSET AND UNDERWEAR ( I’m sure she has a Leo under it)?? MY GAY LITTLE HEART DID NOT SURVIVE.
- Helene takes the necklace Andrey put around Natasha’s neck when he left. Nat looks distressed until it is replaced by pearls and she gets distracted by the shiny.
- the ball is so painful please Anatole no more
- when Anatole and Natasha stand together In front of 9 flood lights then the door closes? I die
- the door closing makes it final and I hate it I hate it I hate it I hate it I hate it I hate it I hate it
- Natasha’s costume change is great you can see how teeny Denee is
- Natasha gushing about how much she loves Anatole to the crowd makes me cry
- Pierre you gentle giant plz stop drinking
-that’s right Sonya. Roast her.
- Natasha no longer says “ he’s my master and I am his slave.” In the genius annotations of the off broadway cast Dave says that the line might change because he knows how it looks to have an African American woman sing that about a white man. He said it was up to Denee to decide what she was comfortable with, and in the show it wasn’t there. ( I’m glad Denee stopped saying something she wasn’t okay with)
-oh Sonya nothing is your fault you little gerbil please calm down and realize you aren’t responsible for Natasha
-THE PLAN FOR NATALIE ROSTOVAS ABDUCTION HAD ALL BEEN-
- balaga is such a fun song. I didn’t get egg shakers but everyone who did seemed to have a good time!
- during the abduction when Anatole says not yet and pauses, Lucas draws it out a ton. One of the people next to me tried shaking her egg to get it started up again and he just looked at us and said “ no.”
-Natasha is so excited to go with him I hate it. Also the violin is amazing as it always is in that show.
- yOU WILL NOT WNTER MYYY HOUSE S C O UN D R E L.
- Denee runs up to what looks like a sink (?) and you can see her miming taking arsenic.
-Pierres reality check kills me. He’s been telling himself he’s worthless nothing matters and he probably hasn’t gone outside in a long time, and then someone’s asking for him for his friend.
-what?? whAt? WHAT???
- Anatole sobbing in Helene’s lap is good and terrible at the same time. She strokes his hair, and it makes me die.
- DRAG HIM PIERRE. THREATEN THE BAD MAN.
- when Anatole leaves Pierre and him throw his bag around for a bit.
- Natasha very ill is so sad I cried then
-in Andrey and Pierre, Andrey is so tired. He’s holding the letters with anger, like he doesn’t want to touch them anymore. It makes me upset because only about 25 songs ago he clutched them to his heart.
- when Andrey says ’ never speak of that’ he holds Pierre up on his tip toes by his shirt. On “ again” he punches Pierre in the chest and runs down to his fathers throne. He sits there and the tension never leaves him as he grips the arms of the chair. Mary tries to fret over him, but he waves her away.
- Natasha and Pierre is the saddest song too. Natasha is so small in her room plain, baggy white nightgown and no shoes. The emotions in that song are so high. Natasha climbs up the stairs as Pierre starts the “ if I were not myself” part of the song, and hesitates with each kind thing he says.
- Pierre stops after “I” and I think he only continues because he sees that Natasha has heard him and that she tenses at the word.
- “UNABLE TO FIND THE SLEEVES.”
- the comet is a good prop I love the comet #gayiconthecomet
- the stage door was so amazing. All the actors were the sweetest. I’m super terrible at names so I apologize if I just call someone their character name.
-Paul Pinto came out and instead of saying “ I loved your performance and my friends did as well” I said “ my friends love you and told me to say hi” he looked a little hurt and said “oh, well tell your friends I said hi, I guess.” I have hurt the best man on this planet and I can never make it up
- I told the guy who plays dolokhov that he was amazing and I cried very hard and he said “ oh well that’s what we always want, isn’t it?”
- PEARL ( an ensemble member) SIGNS IN PURPLE. I ASKED HER WHY SHE SAID IT WAS BECAUSE SHE WANTED TO BE DIFFERENT SO I WOULD REMEMBER HER.
- josh came out even though he had somewhere to be. He went to the end of the line and worked his way up.
- josh has the kindest eyes, he could stab me and I would apologize for getting blood on his knife. He also has a baby face and a beanie. I love him.

There’s more, like a lot about the set so if you want to hear me infodump about comet please let me know kids

Bound to Happen (Part 6), Lin-Manuel Miranda x Reader

Prompt: The chronicles of being Lin’s assistant to maybe something more.

Words: 1,640

Author’s Note: I feel like I never made this super clear - but this is not a recreation of The West Wing. It is heavily inspired by it, yes, but they are not White House staffers and it doesn’t follow the exact same story line. Just wanted to clear any confusion! I thought sticking them into an AU was too constricting.

Warnings: As always, a slow burn. Cursing. This chapter is modeled after the Gaza car explosion episode, so be warned.

“I can barely go one night without you here, I don’t know how I’ll go an entire week.” Lin collapsed into his dressing room couch.

“Do you want a West End production of In the Heights or not?” You shot back, gaining a huff from him.

You were leaving the next morning to join a select group in early negotiations to put Lin’s show up in London. They were very early negotiations, which is why you were tagging along.

Lin had insisted months ago - when the trip was a distant thing in the future and he thought you would deserve a vacation. ‘You’ve been with this show as long as I have, just make sure Usnavi’s not white and we’ve got a West End production!’ was his stellar reasoning.

Now that the trip was in twelve hours, he was having second thoughts.

“Just, have fun and tan!” He insisted as places were called.

“It’s London!” You reminded him as his cap was secured snugly on his head.

It was two in the morning when Lin got the call. He grumbled when Tommy flashed across the screen. Probably still adjusting to time zones and didn’t think before dialing, Lin reasoned as he rejected the call and stuffed his face back into the pillows.

He called three more times before Lin finally gave in.

“It is dark as shit out, Tommy.” Lin sneered, arm reaching blindly to flick on his bedside lamp.

It’s Y/N.” Tommy was crying.

“Tommy?”

Lin spent the next few hours on the phone with various doctors and anyone who was in the group.

A car accident. Lin sent you to London and you were half-dead from a car accident.

“They’re not really telling us anything. We’re not family and we’re in a different country-”

“It’s okay, Tommy. They told me enough.” Breathed Lin, who, after four hours now, was still curled up on his bed. The only visible change was the sunlight peeking in from the window.

“We’re all heading back to the hotel. We’ll keep you updated.”

Lin hung up before Tommy could start another grieving session, as if there was no hope.

Despite what everyone anticipated, Lin was at the theater that night, pleading with anyone that would listen that he was going on tonight even if he had to scream the lyrics without a mic on.

“Either get me a mic, or get the fuck out of my way-” He was taking it out on a poor stage hand whose name he couldn’t remember when he felt a harsh tug at the collar of his shirt.

“Take it easy, man.” Chris was at his side as Lin’s body shook with sobs. The stage hand scampered away, “Hey-”

Lin was struggling to catch his breath, panting as his lungs worked to catch up with the devastation.

I sent her there.”

“Don’t start with that shit.”

Lin wanted to snap again because he did send you and it was his fault and instead of being greeted this morning with your coffee and a scolding from Karen, all he received was thirty solemn faces that couldn’t look him in the eyes.

“If there’s somewhere else you’d rather be right now-” Chris offered, giving him permission to do exactly what he had wanted to this morning, “I think we’d all understand.”

“Thanks.” Lin whispered, striding towards the door. By the time he was in the street, he was sprinting back towards his apartment, racking his brain for how long a flight from New York to London was.

Lin expected the booth to be empty - the meeting with the artistic directors of the theater didn’t start for another ten minutes, but he always liked to show up a bit early.

A head start.

To his surprise, the door was open and the lights were on. And there you were.

Humming to yourself, you twirled around the room effortlessly. You were making copies and highlighting important sections of the script and brewing coffee at the same time.

He was in love.

“Uh, hello?” Lin called, standing in the doorway and wondering if he was intruding. You spun and met him with a grin.

“Hi.” He continued to stare, “Oh! I’m Y/N. I’m working on this show by uh-” You glanced down at the script, “Lin-Manuel Miranda. Who are you?”

“Lin-Manuel Miranda.” He smiled lightly, wondering how this multitasking scatterbrained girl was now working on his show.

“Of course I knew that!” You certainly didn’t, “I’m your assistant. Well, technically I’m an intern but I feel like that’s such a high-school job title so-”

“Assistant it is.” Lin agreed, slinging his bag off his shoulder and taking a spot at the table you were currently setting up.

“Glad we’re on the same page.” You nodded as you continued your impromptu dance around the room - checking that the presentation was set up properly, that the pages were in order and the coffee was on the right track, “I like your show, by the way.”

“Thank you.”

“Remember I said that when you’re looking for an assistant when this thing hits Broadway.”

Lin laughed lightly as he flipped to the first page of your copy of the script. Hastily scribbled in the margins were notes.

Start with talking to the audience to reassure them. This is a show for them even if they know nothing about Washington Heights.

“I will.”

Lin’s first stop was the hospital - where he had to fight doctors to get to you. He still hadn’t showered and was in the same clothes from when he left the theater.

He probably looked like the messiest, most frantic guest they’d ever had in their waiting room, but he crossed an ocean to be there. He was getting into that room.

Finally, he was in contact with a doctor that understood the circumstances and was willing to take the time to explain the situation and treatment plan - a lot of which made Lin queasy.

“Do you want to see her?”

Lin was ushered to a brightly lit hallway. He had never been in an ICU before and it was just as terrifying as he imagined it to be.

“We don’t expect her to come to anytime soon - but you can go in if you’d like.” The doctor offered. She turned the corner and led him to your room. The door was slightly jar, and she pushed it further open.

“You said she’d-”

“-be just fine if everything goes according to plan, yes. A few months of physical therapy for the leg. Frequent check-ups on the lung. Nothing too strenuous.” She confirmed.

You didn’t look like someone that would be just fine. Lin tip-toed into the room. The tubes and machines and beeping was all too overwhelming for his brain to comprehend and suddenly the nausea was catching up to him.

He doubled over at the sight of you, bruised and bandaged and the tears he had been holding in on the plane were spilling here.

The doctor left with a courteous farewell and a reminder that she would be available for questions before closing the door behind her.

It took him twenty minutes to work up the courage to pull the chair up next to your bed. It took another ten for his hand to find yours.

The next two days were spent in that chair. He set up a writing station by your side, the constant click of his notebook the only thing able to drown out the beeping of the machines. He hotel was used for the shower and its continental breakfast and never for sleep.

He has halfway through tearing apart a lyric when he felt your bed shift. He yanked his earbuds out by the chord, slamming his laptop shut and set it on the floor. He sat up, eyes locked on your face as your eyes clenched in pain.

“Lin.”

He wasn’t sure he heard it. Maybe his mind was playing tricks and you were still fast asleep with the help of very heavy drugs.

“Lin.” Your hand was moving now, trembling as you reached for something blindly.

Your eyes wavered open, lids heavy as you took in the speckled ceiling.

“Lin.” His hand was in yours again, and he was out of his chair in a second.

“Hey.” His voice was quiet as it wavered.”You’re okay.”

“You’re here.” Your voice cracked from under use, your throat screaming for water.

“Of course I’m here.” He smiled reassuringly, trying to keep your eyes open and on him. He never wanted to see your eyes on anything but him again.

“It’s not your fault.” You mumbled, barely decipherable.

A nurse bustled in with a jug of water and instructions from the doctor. A remote was shoved into your hand for whenever the pain became unbearable. You immediately clicked it three times.

“It only works the first time, I think.” Lin breathed a half-assed laugh, trying to keep the mood light in the presence of the nurse.

“It’s not your fault.” You repeated firmly, hand trying to brush away the nurse as she moved to take blood. “Say it.

“It’s not my fault.” Lin said, but didn’t believe.

You let the nurse go about her business for the moment, eventually leaving with the promise of food upon her return. You weren’t hungry. Lin’s hands were on your blankets, pulling it up so it would cover your shoulders.

“Is everyone else-”

“They’re all fine.” He promised, pushing a stray hair behind your ear. “They want you to get better.”

“They just want to put me back to work.” You grumbled, voice dipping as you settled back into bed. “I’m irreplaceable.” You smiled, wanting to see it mirrored on Lin’s face - fighting the sleep that threatened to overcome you again.

“Yeah.” He agreed, but you had already dozed off, “Irreplaceable.”

I got last minute stage seats for Great Comet on Friday evening and I’m so glad I did!! I was sitting at the bar seats right in front of Pierre’s tavern and it was pretty magical. This was also the first time I got to see the show without any of the principal actors being out!

  • I got my preshow dumpling from Amber and when her hand brushed mine I almost died right there
  • Balaga plays the drums really loudly in the pit during Prologue and he grinned at me
  • I got a lot of eye contact with Dave during Pierre and a few other parts of the show which made me really happy!
  • When Brittain was leaving the stage during Moscow she paused in the aisle and smiled at me before leaving :)
  • I really noticed how much Marya hates poor Sonya. She’s always shoving her around and making faces at her.
  • Sonya, for her part, often makes faces at Anatole.
  • Nick B just continues to get crazier as Bolkonsky haha. When he was like I DO NOT WISH TO SEEEEEE HER he stuck out his tongue and shook it around. During Natasha & Bolkonskys, after he looked Natasha up and down, he went “not in MY house”
  • During No One Else Dave kept turning to watch Denée’s performance (which, who wouldn’t, but I still thought it was really sweet)
  • During the rave part of The Duel Reed slid across the stage practically into my little brother, who gasped and jerked backwards. The entire section laughed and Reed was like “I’ll be back”
  • Dust and Ashes made me cry, Dave Malloy is amazing and I love him
  • In Sunday Morning I noticed when Natasha looks for her future in the mirror, Pierre is standing behind her and you can see his reflection
  • Also Grace was CRAZY ON her vocals were WILD
  • During Letters Choksi handed me Natasha’s letter to pass down the aisle and then he gave me a fistbump!!!
  • My sister informed me that “Marya was basically giving you a lap dance” during Letters but rip I was not looking at her in the aisle
  • During Sonya & Natasha when Natasha was gushing about being happy Sonya audibly went “ugh”
  • I clinked my glass with 3 people during The Abduction including Balaga! Also an ensemble member I didn’t recognize had his arm around me for a while and I really wish I knew who it was.
  • Anatole’s WOAHHHH with the coat twirling happened right in front of me
  • Reed did indeed return to yell in my brother’s face during The Abduction. He was like “I told you I’d be back”
  • The girl in The Seat tapped her lips asking for a kiss when Lucas sat next to her. He treated her like he treats guys – just gave her a fistbump and left. (When I saw it again the next evening, the girl in The Seat acted normal but Lucas still didn’t put his arm around her or give her a kiss, he just did a sup nod?)
  • During In My House when Natasha yelled at Sonya she whispered “please” in the saddest voice and I was :(
  • Dave Malloy throttled Lucas Steele DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME I really don’t know what else I could have asked for
  • Andrey sounded truly heartbroken in a way I’d never heard him sound at the end of Pierre & Andrey. He was choking up.
  • I cried at the start of Pierre & Natasha and did not stop until bows haha

STAGE DOOR STUFF

  • We got to thank Reed for giving my brother awesome interactions at his first Broadway show!
  • Dave wasn’t doing selfies but he was super cheerful and nice about it. He was like “sorry I’m in a hurry I have to go to my life tonight”
  • I finally met Gelsey and Grace!! I got to tell Gelsey she was my favorite and she was like omg thank you
  • I thanked Choksi for the fistbump and he was like “thank you for fistbumping back. And for passing the letter. One time we had this guy who just sat there shaking his head no while everybody was gesturing for him to take it onstage. Finally Helene had to grab it and take it to Natasha. Now maybe the guy didn’t want Natasha and Anatole to be together or something, but I think he was just a jackass.”
As Long As You’re Mine

Pairing: Daveed x Reader

Summary: Reader is taking the part of Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway alongside Aaron Tveit as Fiyero and Libby Servais as Glinda. Daveed is her boyfriend and gets jealous of the relationship that the reader and Aaron share on and off stage.

Note: Well,I’m back at it whether you like it or not. Thanks so much for the feedback on Lost in You. I pumped out this fic for y’all mostly based on the fact that I’m extreme trash for Wicked, Daveed, and Aaron so this was birthed from that. Thanks to those nearest and dearest to my heart, @strongenoughfoundation, @literallylin, and @linslovelylocks for listening to my rambles about my idea for this. I hope you all enjoy! As usual feedback is appreciated.

“Looking a little sick, aren’t you? It’s almost showtime!”

     Glancing in the mirror, all you saw was green. Your face, your neck, your hands. All green. And for a pretty good reason: you were finally going to be whom almost every actress longs to be: Elphaba Thropp, the leading lady in Wicked. You’ve been working for this role ever since you got the chance to see Idina originated the role back in ‘03.

    “Very funny, Lin. Truly. I haven’t heard that one before.” Lin Manuel Miranda. The man was a genius. The two of you met back in 2006 when you were fresh out of high school and he was working on Heights at an acting seminar in the city. You never lost contact and became fast friends despite the age difference. Eventually you befriended his wife Vanessa and the two of you meet every Saturday for a little shopping trip.

     “I’m just kidding, (Y/N). I’m proud of you. You’ve come all this way from that little 18 year old dreamer. Look how well you did in Hamilton.”

 Yes, it’s true. Everyone’s other dream: to be in the new hit musical. As a part of the original cast ensemble, you got to sing and dance onstage every night beside your closest friends. You and Jasmine became almost attached at the hip as soon as rehearsals began. When she and Anthony began dating, the two of you became close as well. Let’s not forget the most important relationship: You and Daveed. The two of you had been crushing on each other and flirting since the beginning. “If you don’t snatch him up soon, I will.” Jasmine used to tease you. “Jaz, you have a boyfriend!” You would reply. He finally gathered up the courage to ask you out last summer and the two of you have been going strong ever since. Even after almost a year, the two of you were still on cloud nine.

“C’mon Lin, don’t tease the poor girl. Can’t you seen she’s nervous?” Daveed said, walking into your dressing room with a smirk on his face.

“Baby, I’m not nervous. Just, well, okay maybe I am a bit nervous. I mean who wouldn’t be. Playing Elphie is an honor.” You replied shakingly.

“I have full confidence in you, (Y/N/N). You’re going to go out on that stage and kill it. Defy gravity. No pun intended.” Daveed affirmed, embracing you in his arms, careful not to smudge any green.

“I second that!” Lin piped in, “Or V and I wouldn’t have flown all the way from London to see you. You’re gonna do amazing out there.”

“(Y/N)! Get in your place. It’s almost time!. Good Luck!” the stagehand, Ralph, called from outside the door.

“Oh, God I think I’m going to be sick!” You cried, pacing back and forth running your hands along your face.

“Well, geez, you do look a little gree-” “Seriously, Lin?” “Sorry. Good luck, I know you’ll do amazing out there. Show em’ what you’re made of!” He said, running out of the room heading to his seat.

“Hey, Look at me.” Daveed said softly, grabbing your arm pulling you closer to him. Glancing up at him through your eyelashes, you began to listen to what he had to say.

“You’re going to get on that stage, give the best performance of your life, and make the audience go wild at the finale. You’ve worked so hard for this role and you deserve it without a doubt.” With the way he looked right into your eyes, you knew what he said was sincere.

“God dammit, D, you’re gonna make me cry. I can’t have this damn paint smudge!” You answered with a giggle.

“Well, you know me always making the ladies cry.” He winked at you, pointing with finger guns.

“Finger guns, really?” You said with crossed arms and a smile on your face.

“Oh come on you know you love em’!” Daveed said on his way out of the room. While he was walking out, another just happened to walk in.

“Aaron!” You exclaimed. Aaron Tveit. The man of everyone’s dreams. Tall build, blonde hair, gleaming eyes, and a killer smile. As the two of you began to talk, you didn’t notice the slight scowl on your boyfriends face as he left the room.

Karaoke Night

Daveed Diggs x Reader, Hamilcast!

Author: Lil Lambie

Words: 2795

Warnings: Alcohol, implied smut, kissing

Request: (Summarized) @sunshinelafayette Imagine where reader is a stagehand, the hamilcast invites reader out for a drink and reader gets really drunk and opens up and then Daveed takes them home and a drunk confession that they love Daveed?

A/N: This is defintely longer than I’m used to, but I did what I could! This took a long time to write, and I don’t know if I’ll get another imagine out tonight. Because I feel like it is three imagines lol. But if I do, it will probably be a shorter one. But, we will see. Enjoy!

Pippa was singing her last lines on stage. The show was drawing to a close. The rest of the cast were huddled against the curtain watching her deliver them so beautifully. A roar of applause erupted and the cast ran to bow on the stage.

“Spotlight on Lin,” you said to the lights manager. “fade into all backlights.” The crewmember moved their fingers over the keyboard and you watched closely.

You were a stagehand, but not the stage manager as you wish you were. No one really was except for Lin. You just did more than was in your job description. You had watched Hamilton dozens of times now. It never failed to make you cry. You weren’t one for conversation backstage, you gave your orders and did your job.

A few minutes later, after everyone had bowed, the cast returned glowing with sweat and joy. “Another great show, guys!” Lin shouted. Everyone congratulated each other.

“We should celebrate!” Anthony shouted.

“We still got a couple dozen shows to go before our season is over.” Lin said.

“Who cares?” John laughed, throwing his hand on Lin’s back. “It’s Friday night, it was a great show. No better excuse to go have karaoke night at a bar!”

“Yeah!” someone shouted and soon everyone joined in

Lin laughed and smiled. “Okay, we will go in an hour.”

Everyone cheered.

You wandered away from the circle of the cast, back over to your supply room. Daveed caught you when he was slipping off his magenta jacket. “Hey, (Y/N), you coming?”

“Uh, what?” you laughed nervously.

“You know what I said! I said are you coming to karaoke night at the bar with us tonight?”

“Umm…I’m not much of a singer. That’s kind of why I’m a stagehand.”

“Oh, I doubt that so much.” he laughed. “I have seen you backstage, singing along. I’ve seen you from the stage and from backstage. You have a great voice and I don’t get why you don’t perform. You could be a backup dancer at least! You deserve so much more, (Y/N)!”

“Oh, Daveed, really I’m not…” you blushed. “I have stagefright. I like helping with stuff backstage, so I’m fine not singing.”

“Fine.” he leaned on his chair. You started to walk away. “But, just come to the bar tonight. We are going to have loads of fun. All of the cast is going to be there. You don’t have to sing if you don’t want to. It’s just, everyone is celebrating. I don’t want you to be left out.” Daveed smiled.

“Fine.” you said blandly, trying to hide your excitement.

“Fine.” Daveed laughed, imitating you with a voice much higher than your own.

You laughed and walked away.

++++++

The bar was packed for a Wednesday night. All of the cast and most of the crew was there. The crew hung by at their own table. One of your friends on the crew invited you over. You went to sit down with them.

A hand touched yours, and gently pulled you away. A smooth chaste voice singing, “No, no, no,” he sang melodically. “you said you were going to have drinks with the cast, and you are.”

You waved helplessly to your friend and let Daveed take you away. The main cast was circled around a large table. Lin and Anthony walked back over with shots of tequila in their hands. Lin smirked smugly at you and slid one over to you.

“I thought we were just having beer, not hard liquor.” you said to Daveed as you sat down next to him.

“That wouldn’t be any fun.” he laughed, taking his shot and slamming it triumphantly on the table. Everyone cheered.

“Hey, (Y/N)!” Lin shouted. “It’s your turn!” Everyone else had already taken their shots.

“No, I really think I’ll just have a beer.”

“Come on!” someone yelled.

They all began chanting your name. “(Y/N)! (Y/N)! (Y/N)! (Y/N)! (Y/N)! Do it! Do it! Do it!”

Daveed chanted, smiling smugly at you. “(Y/N)!” he chanted. “Do it! Do it! Do it and you’re cool!” he teased.

You rolled your eyes and grabbed the shot. You threw it down. You coughed. You had never had hard liquor before. You weren’t really one for alcohol. If you did have any, it would be a cold beer in your apartment alone watching re-runs of your favorite shows. The tequila burned your throat and blazed your throat as it slid down. It was sharp, but it made you feel alive.

“Yeah!” Everyone cheered.

“You are pretty cool, (Y/N).” Daveed teased. You rolled your eyes at him.

Lin and a few other guys returned with beer glasses for everyone. You stared at it for a moment. Everyone took a swing. You finally followed suit.

“Whoa! Slow down, (Y/N)!” Pippa laughed. “You are going to get wasted if you keep drinking like that!”

“Keep ‘em coming!” you shouted to Lin. You had carelessly drank three glasses full already. You chugged the next one he handed you.

“Wow!” he laughed.

You slammed it down on the table and cried out. “Hell yeah! Let’s do this!”

The group laughed and Daveed smiled at you. “Woohoo!” they cheered. “I like this side of you.” Daveed smirked.

You ignored him and ran up to the microphone. No one was really in the mood to sing after the long show. There were a bunch of drunk hacks you tried to sing. One got up and sang “My Heart Will Go On,” who you practically booed off stage. Daveed had laughed and called you a tough critic.

You told the DJ your request.

The lights focused on you. Daveed smiled at you. “Hey! Hey! Hey!” you sang.

Daveed smiled wide when he realized what you were singing. Everyone directed their attention to you. You started singing outrageously. “Helpless! Looking into your eyes and the sky’s the limit I’m helpless! Down for the count, I’m drownin’ in ‘em!”

You breezed through the song. “Then you walked in and mY HEART WENT BOOOOM!” you made an explosion sound and made gestures around your chest. Daveed laughed hysterically, throwing his head back. You belted the rest of the song and the cast and crew cheered you on.

Daveed stood up and applauded, laughing at you. He even did Lin’s part in the song. “Heeelplessss!” you belted out the last word. You transitioned into Satisfied and Daveed harmonized with you.

Daveed ended up joining you and you sang duets of hits from Hamilton, other broadway musicals and some classic rock songs, banging your head to it. You rapped with Daveed on “Guns and Ships.” Lin had pulled out his phone and was recording all of this.

He stole the microphone from your hand and started rapping rapidly, while bouncing around, throwing around his hands. You stood next to him, still rapping but not as fast. You were in awe of your few. The lights highlighted the sweat on Daveed’s dark face and hair. His curly hair bounced around. He broke out in a dance moves, grinding to a classic rock song he requested.

After both of you were exhausted, and you were completely hammered you wandered back to the table. Daveed hand his steady hand on your shoulder, guiding you back. You slumped in the chair.

Everyone started to say their goodbyes and finished up their conversations. Getting ready to go home. “DaaaVEEED!” you screamed.

Daveed turned around laughing as he was talking to Jonathan. “What?”

“G-g-get me another beeeer. PleeEASE!”

“No, no, no,” he laughed, singing again in his dark velvet voice. It made you feel some special inside. He stood you up and leaned you against him. You fell into his chest, utterly wasted. “You’ve had enough beers tonight.” he laughed. “And your lifetime.”

“You gonna get home safe, (Y/N)?” Pippa smiled concerned at you.

“Yeah…I’ll just Uber or catch a bus…or a plane.” you chuckled.

Pippa’s smile faltered. “Umm…”

“Don’t worry about it, Pippa. I’ll take her home.”

“Thanks, Daveed. See ya!”

“See ya!”

They started clearing out of the bar. “Shall we go, (Y/N)?” Daveed laughed.

“Wha-where?”

“Let’s go.” He threw an arm around your shoulder and pulled you tight to his chest as he walked you to his car. He strapped you in the front seat and handed you a water. “You are going to have a killer hangover tomorrow, (Y/N).” he said, driving towards your apartment.

Daveed tried to make conversation, but your words slurred and your eyes kept falling. The world was spinning and everything was bright, but you felt like you were on cloud nine inside. You were with Daveed. He looked so perfect. The pursed focused look on his face as he ran through traffic lights. His hands loose on the steering wheel. He looked over at you occassionally asking if you were okay. You never really gave him a full answer.

“We’re here!” Daveed shouted.

“Shhhhh! It’s a library!” you whispered.

Daveed chuckled. “Let’s get you inside.”

He parked and came around to your door. He unbuckled you and pulled you out. You leaned against him. He carried you up the stairs to your apartment, you laid your head against his chest. Your eyes falling.

“This is it.” Daveed said, setting you back on your feet.

You tried to reach back for his neck when he put you down, like a child reaching for its mother. “T-T-Thanks, verry much, Daveeed!”

“Shh,  you’re welcome.” he laughed. “You going to get to bed fine?”

“Oh, yeah, I’m just gonna open the door and fall right on the floor and go to sleeeeep.”

“Let me help you inside.” he smiled.

He grabbed your keys from your pocket and fiddled with them in the lock. You leaned against the door. “Ya know what, Daveeeed?” you chuckled. “Ya are soooo cute! And hot. Ohmygod are you hot. The sun don’t got nothing on you! You are like a teddy bear made of chocolate,” you snorted, “you are so cute, smart, and funny. And you give me cuddles when I want them!”

“We haven’t cuddled.” Daveed laughed.

“Whaaa? I thought we had! Well, I want to hug my chocolate teddy bear. Because you are one! I’ve always really had a cruuush on you, Daveeed. You are so amazing and I’m like falling for you. I know I’m just a dumb stagehand, buuuuuut, I love you and your face and your lips and your bodddy, and your vooooice, oh its like chocolate. But most of all I love, yooooou…” you danced your fingers on his chest.

He was smiling wildly at you. You fell into him, and the door pushed open. He held your arms and looked down at you smiling. “(Y/N), you are hammered!” he laughed.

“I waaaaant you, Daveeeed, I haven’t said it because I didn’t want you to reject me. I like you, like, like like likeeee, like you.”

You pushed against him to get on your toes. To reach his lips. He moved closer to you.

Then your head fell limp to his chest. You began snoring.

Daveed laughed and picked you up in his arms, and cradled you. He laid you down on the couch and threw a blanket over you. He closed and locked the door. He pulled your shoes off and tucked you in.

He sighed at the door, then looked back at you. Your head was half off the sofa, your hair hanging in front of your face, you were drooling. He laughed and smiled at you.

He grabbed a blanket for himself and sat against the sofa. His head by your feet and closed his eyes.

+++++

“OH MY GOD!” you screamed. You threw the blanket off and fell backwards off the couch.

Daveed woke up and ran to help you.

“Hey! Heyyy, it’s okay, sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.” he helped you sit back down and ran to your kitchen to get you a glass of water.

“Oww.” you moaned. “My head is tHRoBing!”

“Well, you got wasted and you just fell on hardwood floor.”

“Wait, what?”

“You don’t remember, do you?”

“No. I don’t. Why was I drunk?”

Daveed laughed, amused. “After the show yesterday, we all went out for a drink at a karaoke bar. You drank a ton of beers and shots of tequila. You booed people off stage and said the randomest and most outlandish things. Then you went up and started singing a bunch of Hamilton songs. You owned the stage like you were Beyonce!

“Oh my goddd…” you groaned, covering your face in shame. “I’m so embarrassed.”

“Well, it gets better.” he smiled. “I went up and we did duets. We sang broadway and classic rock songs. After awhile you were speaking jibberish and didn’t really know what was going on. You were super drunk and we were all leaving, so I took you home. I carried you up your stairs…and you started saying somethings.”

“What did I say?” you ask nervously.

“You started talking about me. What you thought of me. You called me a chocolate teddy bear,” he giggled, “along with cute, funny, smart, hot…You told me I was hotter than the sun. Then you said, that you um, had a crush on me. You said you loved me. We almost kissed…buut, then you passed out and I brought you inside. I didn’t want to leave you alone, so I just slept on the floor.”

“Oh my god, Daveed, I am so sorry! I don’t know what,” you started talking but your temple throbbed. You closed your eyes for a moment. “I’m so sorry you had to see that.”

“No, don’t be. I loved singing with you. You were really light on your feet. You loosened up. You sang amazingly! You rapped Guns and Ships with me. I loved last night, (Y/N). Don’t say sorry to me, say sorry to yourself for the horrible hangover you have right now.”

“You aren’t mad?” you said.

“No, why would I be?”

“I just thought, that you would think I was a burden last night or something. Or get tired of me in general. That after all that I-uh in a humiliating fashion said, you would reject me or leave me or ignore me or something…But you didn’t.”

“Of course not!” he shouted. You winced. He frowned. “Sorry,” his voice softened. “(Y/N), I invited you, took you home, and stayed with you, because I care about you. I didn’t want anything to happen and I wanted to make sure that you were safe and got home okay. I could have just left you last night and forgot about everything that had happened, and you would never know, but I didn’t want that. I waited to see what you decided and what you felt. It wouldn’t be fair to you to do that. Plus, I didn’t want to leave. I wanted to stay with you…and see where this goes.”

“Daveed…” you whispered.

He grabbed you gently and kissed your lips. His touch was soft and warm. His hands were smooth and gentle, holding your hands. You closed your eyes and melted into the kiss. He tasted like chocolate. But not in the actual sense of the world. Kissing him was the sensation of chocolate. That perfect, relaxing, and amazing feeling. He wrapped his arms around you, and pushed your hair back.

You fell on the couch and pulled away, when the world started spinning again. “No, I can’t do this right now. I’m sorry.”

“Oh.” Daveed got up to leave.

“No! Not like that! Please stay!”

“Okay…” He sat down next to you.

“I’m just too tired right now, to kiss you. But I love it. I love you.”

“I love you too.” Daveed stole a kiss and leaned in.

He pulled away slyly. “It was the last one I promise.”

You smiled and laid back down and closed your eyes. “Can you stay with me?” you asked softly.

“Yeah.” he whispered.

He leaned against the sofa with you. You reached your hand to him and he held it. “With me.” you said.

“Yeah.” he smiled.

He still held your hand as he laid next to you, and let his arm fall over your stomach as you held hands. You turned over and burrowed your head in his chest. He smiled and pulled the blanket over you. He kissed your forehead.

Home wasn’t a place that you lived.

You had searched for satisfaction in yourself. You didn’t find any pure joy or enjoyment. You didn’t love anything. You hadn’t had the chance to.

Home is a place you find.

You found it in his arms.

Lin didn’t want to admit it. He was in denial and didn’t want to confess it. Nothing would make him talk. Nothing would break him. Nothing would-

“I’ll buy you dinner if you do it.” You state as an ultimatum as you twirled the gel pen between your fingers.

Lin’s determination and shell of resistance cracked and shattered the moment you finished speaking the ultimatum. Lin mumbled a profanity before standing up from the couch. He took a deep breath before doing a cartwheel, or what he believed was a cartwheel. You couldn’t stop laughing at him. How anyone could keep a straight face as they watched a grown man in his thirties attempt a cartwheel and watching him land it by crashing into the couch is beyond you. You felt your stomach hurt and your eyes grow watery. Lin stood and glared weakly at you, mumbling for you to shut up.

“Don’t be like that, Linny.” You said, nudging Lin in the chest as you zipped up your hoodie and retrieved your wallet from the coffee table. “At least you earned yourself some free dinner.”

Lin rolled his eyes as he stood and grabbed his car keys and wallet. You both walked out of the apartment complex and into the garage. You both entered Lin’s car and pulled out, driving from the building and down the street. The destination was an old stomping ground of yours and Lin’s. A moderately sized family diner only a few blocks away from Lin’s apartment. This was where you and Lin would brainstorm and work on ideas for Hamilton together. A good amount of your friendship was spent at this restaurant. You would work on homework and last minute projects here, take part of Friday night karaoke and work for tips when you were short on funds. This place was, in fact, ran by your family. Mainly your parents, seven other siblings, and six of your cousins. The food served were all (L/N) family recipes and the decor were all hand-me-downs, giving the diner a homey atmosphere.

You and Lin pulled into the parking lot and entered the diner, inhaling the warm scent of country fried steaks and apple pies. Your sister Beth was working the podium so once she saw you and Lin she grinned and immediately grabbed menus and lead you to your favorite spot; a booth directly diagonal from the kitchen door so you could have a clear view of who and what was coming out of the kitchen. Since you were the chosen heiress of the diner, you tried to visit it was as often as your schedule would allow you to. This means a lot of late night dinner with Lin and falling asleep with a cold cup of coffee and being woken up when your parents went home (the diner runs 24 hours). Although your name was soon to be on that deed, you were discussing with your father about how the heir should be some who worked and wanted the restaurant. But, that’s a story for another time.

Your mother walked out of the kitchen and she noticed you and Lin, smiling although she was tired. “(Y/N)! Lin!” She strolled over to you two and gave you side-hugs. “It’s good to see you two! What can I get you?”

You and Lin scanned through the menu you both know by heart. Before Lin could speak you placed your menu down on the table and looked up to your mom. “We’ll have our usuals and two coffees.”

Your mom scribbled down your order on her pad of paper and winked at you. “I’ll bring out sugar and cream for you, hun.” And with that, she walked back into the kitchen. You took this time to look around the restaurant and noticed how empty it is. You and Lin were the only ones eating, besides a couple of hungover and stoned teenagers sitting at the bar. Normal Saturday night for the (L/N) Family Diner.

Besides having a favorite diner that worked at a meeting place for meals and study dates, you and Lin go way back. You two graduated from the same high school, you graduating two years after Lin, and you guys stopped talking until four years ago after you graduated college. You came across Lin while touring Aaron Burr’s house and you two picked up your friendship where they left off. He told you about this project he was doing called the Hamilton Mixtape. You were a huge American History nerd so you were excited to hear about it. Some time later, Lin started working on a hip-hop musical about the life of Alexander Hamilton, who happened to be your favorite founding father. You had a Bachelor’s degree in Dance so when you heard ‘musical’ you thought of the dancing and ensemble members of Broadway. When Lin decided to make you the Choreographer for Hamilton, you saw stars. You were positive that Hamilton was going to be a Broadway hit so you immediately accepted his offer. So, for a course of the next few years, Lin would run you through the songs he wrote while you demonstrated the dances you put together for each song. You also helped Lin pick out actors and actresses for the cast and you took it upon yourself to choose the ensemble members. It might have been Lin’s musical but he always said it was a team effort.

You and Lin proceeded to talk about ideas and new changes for Hamilton songs and dance numbers. Your food and coffee were served some time later and the conversations did not cease. After the food was eaten, coffee was drunk, and the conversation lasted for about two hours, the bill found itself onto your table and you paid for it, leaving a good tip for your mom before you and Lin got up to leave, hugging your mom and your sister before leaving the restaurant. You and Lin went back to his apartment and you two ended up having a deep one-in-the-morning conversation about life since that’s how your brain functioned when you were an insomniac and still running on those few cups of coffee. At about three am, you decided to leave since the next day was the premiere of Hamilton. You hugged Lin and wished him a good night before leaving. You lived in the same building, but your apartment was three floors above Lin’s.

~~~
Night of the Premiere ~
The theater was packed. The show sold out not that long ago and it was heart-racingly exciting to see all these people and Broadway veterans filling the Richard Rogers Theater. Thank god you weren’t in the main cast or else you’d be having a panic attack and insist on leaving. You were not just the Choreographer but you also was an ensemble member that performed in both acts and even had a singing part in The Election of 1800. You also lend a hand in helping cast and ensemble members get in costume and makeup since you took a class for theatrical costume and makeup in college. When you weren’t helping or going over last minute practice with the ensemble, you were loitering in Lin’s dressing room, helping him calm his nerves.
“What if I miss my cues?” Lin asked, mainly to himself as he fiddled with the sleeves of his shirt. “What if I make a complete fool of myself?”
“Lin, calm down,” You said for the hundredth time that night. “You’ll be fine.”
“But what if the spotlights go out?” Lin continued to be nervous. “What if everybody doesn’t like the show? What if-”
“Lin, oh my god, calm down!”
Lin looked at you with wide eyes. You stood up from the couch and was grasping Lin’s shoulders, looking him dead in the eye. “You, Lin-Manuel Miranda, are a brilliant man. You wrote this musical in seven years and you had to deal with me forcing you to practice dancing during those seven years. You mastered the dances, you’ve mastered the songs, and you can do anything you put your mind to.”
“Yeah, but-”
“No buts, Lin! Now you go out there and do your best! If you get nervous or anxious, look for me. If I’m not on stage, I’ll be in the wings.”
Lin smiled and hugged you. “Thank you, (Y/N).” He said, kissing you on the cheek, making you blush. “I’m not wasting my shot!”
You laughed as he finished his hair and finished getting ready. You mess with your hair before the five-minute warning comes over the P.A system. You and Lin hug again and you go your separate ways and take positions in the opening song.
The musical goes on without any problems. When you weren’t performing on stage, you were watching from the wings. Lin would glance at you ever so often but you’d flash him a smile and a thumbs up. During the intermission, you snuck off and Lin didn’t see you until the first song of Act Two. Act Two brought you to tears and you were silently crying when Alexander died. The audience were brought to tears and enjoyed the show very well, calling for an encore during the curtain call. You disappeared from the stage and Lin went searching for you. He had something very important to tell you.
Four months ago, Lin came to the realization that he loved you. It was at a rocky point of his life when he realized this. He had just finalized his divorce with Vanessa after four years of marriage and they decided to share custody of their baby son, Sebastian. Besides working on Hamilton, Lin was a mess and wasn’t getting enough sleep. You’d force him to sleep and make sure he’d eat. You cared so much about him, just like you did in high school. You were loving, witty, funny, beautiful, and very talented and smart. Lin couldn’t help but fall in love. He didn’t think he could after his divorce but he did.
Lin scanned through the group of actors and ensemble members for you but to no avail, you weren’t found. Lin asked all the actors he saw and they all turned up with nothing. Then, Phillipa said she saw you in the lobby. Lin thanked her before racing to the lobby, still in costume. As he made his way to the lobby, he went over what he was going to say to you. He mentally cursed and finally made it to his destination. Lin scanned the crowd and saw you but his heart stopped once he saw him.
You were standing up against an empty part of the lobby wall. You were still in your ensemble costume and the blue and red coat you wore during Yorktown. Your hair was still in its braided updo and your makeup looked to be touched up recently. Your arms were crossed against your chest and your head was tilted every so slightly to the side. The guy you were talking to was about Daveed’s height, with curly blonde hair and he was dressed in a white dress shirt, a navy blue blazer, black slacks, and brown loafers. His neck and cheeks were covered in freckle patches. His hands were making motions as he spoke, making you laugh once and a while.
You see Lin in the corner of your eye and you smile. “Lin!” You called him over, motioning with your hand. Your ‘friend’ turned around and he had an anxious smile on his face. Lin felt a pit form in his stomach as he walked over to you. His hands became clammy and he expected the worst from this guy he never saw before being all friendly with you.
“There you are, (Y/N),” Lin said, forcing a fake smile on his face. “I’ve been looking for you.”
You smiled sheepishly and rubbed the back of your neck. “Sorry.” You nudged the blonde guy in his side as you stood up straight. “This cutie has been distracting me.” The blonde guy blushed and stepped closer to your side, placing a hand on your hip and you leaning into his touch, leaning your head on his shoulder. Lin’s speculations were confirmed. And it broke his heart.
You had a boyfriend.
Lin tried his best not to look hurt and heartbroken. He wanted to look oblivious and happy. His forced smile looked convincing but he was breaking on the inside. When did you start dating this guy? Why didn’t you tell Lin about him? Does Lin know this guy? He did look kinda familiar. Maybe a guy from your high school? Lin didn’t care. He instantly hated this guy. This guy took you away from him. Lin could make you happy. He could satisfy you. If he was able to, he’d make you a happy person.
“(Y/N), who’s your friend?” Lin asked as he balled his hands into fists.
You smiled and blushed. “This is Grayson Peters.” You explained, Grayson extending his hand for Lin to shake. “We went to high school with him. He was in the marching band with me.”
Lin firmly gripped Grayson’s hand and shook it briefly before letting go. Grayson’s hand was clammy and cold and Lin wiped his hand on his pants before stuffing it in his pocket. Grayson looked like one of those guys you’d see on Glee or The Office but also has that anxious glee like one of Lin’s fangirls. His eyes were brown like Lin’s and his face is clean, no shadow of facial hair. Maybe you liked men with brown eyes? Clean shaven guys? Musical guys? Lin fit two of those three traits so he had a good chance with you. Besides, Lin knows you better. He could make you so happy.
“How long have you two been seeing each other?” Lin asked, a lump in his throat forming.
“Four months.” You explain. “We’ve been seeing each other online since he worked overseas. But now he’s living in the city!” Grayson planted a kiss on your head and you blushed, making Lin’s heart break even more.
‘So that’s why she’s been online so often.’ Lin thought as he felt his eyes water and the lump in his throat growing. He wanted to pull you away from Grayson and tell him to get lost. He wanted to kiss you and hold you and make you feel special. It took him four months for him to realize how much he needs you and you went off and got yourself a boyfriend. Lin was so disappointed with himself that he took so long. He loves you. He wants you. He needs you. But he was too late.
Lin turned around and walked away, not being stopped or noticed by you or Grayson. He walked all the way to his dressing room, ignoring everyone who tried to talk to him. He locked the door behind him and took a seat in front of the mirror. He stared at his reflection and then looked at the picture he taped to the corner. It was a selfie polaroid you took of you and Lin on your thirty-third birthday, which was six months ago. You both had on those stupid plastic birthday hats and you both held full wine glasses as you toasted to ‘one more year closer to death’, as you put it. You both were smiling, which what made Lin’s heart ache more. He wanted that smile. He needed that smile. But it now belonged to someone else.
And he cried.
The disappointment
You had been working for Mr. Kim for nearly two months now, and things had gone pretty smoothly. You and Jangmi had bonded rather quickly. It made the job much easier. The one thing that didn’t make it easier was Mr. Kims absence. Jangmi would often ask about him, but you were never really sure how to answer. Most of the time you’d change the subject.
Jangmi squirmed as you pinned the last flower onto her dress for her school play tomorrow night. “Jangmi, you need to stay still. You don’t want me to accidentally prick you, do you?”
“No,” she muttered. “I just wanna see the dress!”
You gave her a warm smile. “Be patient, I’m almost finished.” You put the final stitch in, feeling relieved that you had finally finished. You sat back to admire your handy work. “Alright, we’re all done.”
Jangmi jumped down from the stool that she had been standing on, running to the full length mirror. She squealed in excitement at her reflection. She twirled in her dress. “Miss Y/LN, it’s perfect!” She rushed back to you, wrapping her arms around your waist. “Thank you so much.”
You gave her a pat on her head, “Anytime. Now, why don’t you go change into your pjs while I clean up. Alright?”
Jangmi skipped off to the bathroom as you cleaned up the mess that you had  made. Various pieces of cloth had been scattered across the room, it was your job to gather it all up. “Looks like a hurricane came through here,” a deep voice spoke.
Words: 836
Author’s Note: We hit a few milestones since my last fic: over 250 followers, almost 300 notes on my Alex Lacamoire post, and I started making Aesthetics! Thank you guys for everything! (I have no idea why I chose Daniel Radcliffe as the celeb…)
Your hair was parted for a mic placement, your costume was half-on and you were trying to control your breathing as you reviewed your notes.
Tonight, you were on as Eliza instead of your usual spot in the ensemble. The first time you’ve ever had the opportunity.
It was nerve racking, to say the least, but you had prepared for it and were absolutely ready.
A hand pinched at your side, and you swatted it away with a giggle, avoiding Renee’s excited stare.
“I’ll just wait a few more minutes, he’s probably stuck in traffic, thank you.” Your eyes went back to your phone once again. You could feel it, the staring. The coffee shop you chose for your blind date with the guy your coworker set you up with was near close to Broadway, only a few blocks away from Times Square, there was no way he didn’t find the place or got lost in traffic.
You’ve been stood up for the first time.
It wasn’t a good feeling, at all. You could almost listen to the old women gossiping about it a few tables away from yours, and the waitress talking about how you were sitting alone with a glass of water on your booth, waiting for a date that just wasn’t going to show up.
When the bell by the door ringed for the millionth time since you arrived, you looked up from your phone, hoping for Mike, but it was just another guy: long hair tied up in a ponytail, headphones around his neck and a backpack that didn’t go with the gray sweater he was wearing on that autumn morning. Something about him was just captivating, so you watched him go stand in line to order.
Panic! at the Disco's Brendon Urie on Broadway, British Accents and Wearing Those 'Kinky Boots'
To some theatergoers, Brendon Urie might appear to be just another actor starring in Kinky Boots, the Tony-winning Broadway musical by Cyndi Lauper and Harvey Fierstein that centers on a reluctant shoemaker and his unlikely inspiration.
But at Sunday’s performance, the audience’s Panic! at the Disco fans let out a collective gasp at the frontman’s surprise entrance, and loudly screamed as if at a rock concert when he showcased his bright, four-octave vocal range on solo numbers.
“Oh, my god, it feels phenomenal - I’m just kind of getting sandbagged with love,” Urie tells The Hollywood Reporter of making his Broadway debut in the musical through Aug. 6. “I don’t know what first attracted me to this world, but the whole universe that is musical theater just blows me away. I love it.”
Urie, 30, goes Off Script with The Hollywood Reporter to talk dancing in heels, wandering around the West Village and writing music for a Broadway project in the future.
When did you first consider joining this show?
The first time I saw it, two years ago. I went with a friend, and, I mean, immediately just upon seeing the first couple of scenes, I had this immense appreciation for the show’s message and I just wanted to be a part of it in any capacity. By the end, I was cheering and crying and laughing and having the best time.
It took me a couple of tours, but I’m glad it worked out. We were trying to book other [tours] and I said, “No, I want to take a break. I want to see what Broadway’s like.” [Cyndi Lauper and I] have hung out a handful of times and already she’s one of my favorite people in the world.
What’s your theater background? Did you do a bunch of acting in high school?
Not at all. I was a part of the theater craft class, so I used to build the sets and be behind-the-scenes, working tech. And my siblings and I would dress up and make little home movies with lots of singing.
I grew up loving musicals: West Side Story, Oklahoma!, Guys and Dolls. The Sound of Music is my favorite musical of all time. I’ve got such a crush on Julie Andrews.
What has surprised you most about starring in a musical?
It’s so wildly different, but so much fun. I guess I expected, to a certain degree, the nakedness you feel up onstage, but it’s honestly unlike any other feeling. When I’m playing with my band in a concert, the fans are all singing the lyrics together and screaming back at you like a giant campfire. But Broadway, you’re there to perform - it’s just you and the spotlight, and you have to just run into it at 100 percent. I’ve been trying to live in the moment, forget who I am and be that character, and just feel that emotion. Luckily, the music is so powerful that when you’re singing the lyrics, you already feel the emotion. I hope people get hit with the same fire and message of love that I got when I first saw this.
What has been the toughest part about playing Charlie Price?
Dancing in heels is actually pretty comfortable for me, and it’s harder to act like I’m not comfortable in the heels! (Laughs.) But the most challenging was the British accent. My dialect coach Amy Jo [Jackson] ran through the script with me over Skype. The hardest part was getting criticism like, “You sound Australian right now - let’s fix that.”
What new habit have you taken on?
I’m drinking more Throat Coat tea. On tour, we’ll do four shows and then a day off. Doing eight shows a week is crazy, in the best way possible.
What have you given up?
Doing shows with my band, but it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.
What do you do when you first wake up on a show day?
I make coffee and breakfast for my wife and I, and I walk around for at least 45 minutes. This is the most extended stay I’ve had [in New York] and the West Village is very neighborhood-y with a bunch of dogs, so it’s a nice walk.
It’s a totally different vibe from L.A., where if you walk into a restaurant, everybody turns. In New York, I don’t think anybody cares, and that’s a good thing. You can have Tom Hanks walk into a restaurant and they’d be like, “Oh, yeah, that’s Tom Hanks,” and continue to have their conversation.
What’s your preshow ritual?
I do the warm-up thing. And I actually spoiled myself and put an Xbox in my dressing room, so I could play a little.
Getty Images
Most memorable moment at the stage door?
The first night was unreal - hundreds of kids, people climbing on trees and standing on cars. I thought they were going to get arrested, honestly! And fans bring gifts -  they’ve drawn stuff for me, given me flowers and written amazing letters. That kind of love just does not cease, and each night I feel it.
Are you interested in originating a part on Broadway?
Oh, my goodness, yes, I would love that. I’ve been thinking about that more and more. I’d love to do something that I’ve written music for, stuff I haven’t written yet. That would be so fun. I’d love to get an idea down and work with some amazing creative minds on that.
If you could be in any other Broadway show, what would it be?
To be Jean Valjean in a revival of Les Miserables would be amazing. And, having grown up Mormon, I think The Book of Mormon would be a good fit. (Laughs.) That’d be pretty fun.
To Deserve You (Ben Platt X Reader)
WC: 2047
Warnings: Gets a lil raunchy, fluff (seriously it’s so sweet it’s almost cavity inducing)
Summary: Ben and Y/N have been dating in secret, but when Y/N is due to fill in as Zoe, what will happen?
A/N: Hey. In case you couldn’t tell, I’m severity obsessed with Dear Evan Hansen, and Ben Platt is just the best, so here’s another imagine
“Good morning Music Box!” I called as I walked into the theatre, writing my name on the sign in sheet. “Morning Y/N.” Kristolyn said, walking in with a coffee in tow. “Hey Kris. Ready for the day?” I asked and she nodded, taking a sip of her coffee. “Sure am. You excited to be playing Zoe for the first time?” She asked, smirking at me slightly. “Of course. This is my Broadway debut Kris.” I said cautiously, walking up the stairs. “That’s good, that’s good.” Kristolyn said and I arched an eyebrow at her. “You’re acting weird, but I’m gonna forget about it for now.” I said and Kris laughed, making her way towards her dressing room. “I’ll see you later Y/N.” She said and I nodded, waving at her. “See ya Kris.” I muttered, turning around on my heels. I put my hands in my pockets and walked briskly over to one particular dressing room. I knocked on the door lightly, hoping the inhabitant would answer. “Hey Ben, its Y/N!” I called out and the door almost immediately flung open. “Hey Y/N!” Ben said, bringing me into a tight hug. “Hey babe. How are you?” I said, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “A lot better now that you’re here.” Ben said and I rolled my eyes affectionately. “You’re lucky I’m not lactose intolerant, because you are so cheesy.” I retorted and Ben laughed, his eyes bright. “But enough about me. I feel like such a gushy boyfriend, but I’m so proud of you already.” Ben said and I untangled myself from his embrace, sitting down on the couch. “It’s times like this that I’m reminded of how much I love you.” I said and Ben’s cheeks flushed pink as he pressed a kiss to my forehead. “I love you too Y/N, and I’m very excited to actually get to kiss you in front of people tonight.” Ben said and I felt my cheeks heat up. “Getting to play your girlfriend will be a breeze, Benji.” I said, lying down and putting my head in his lap. Ben let out a content sigh and ran his fingers through my hair. “Don’t you wish you could just replay moments over and over again?” Ben said and I nodded slightly, looking up at Ben. “Every time I’m with you.” I said and Ben let out a chuckle, his fingers expertly moving through my hair. “And I’m the cheesy one.” Ben mused and I blew him a kiss. “You know you love it.” I retorted as I sat up, wrapping my legs around Ben’s waist. “Mm, I do love it.” Ben said, his voice lowering slightly. I smirked and shifted forward, the friction making Ben let out a low moan. “Don’t tease me Y/L/N.” Ben almost growled and my smirk only grew. “Don’t make it so easy to tease you, Platt.” I replied, the words barely leaving my mouth before Ben slammed his lips onto mine. The kiss was rougher than anything I was used to, and I loved it. I ran my hands down his chest and slipped them under the hem of his shirt, his skin burning against my fingers. I broke the kiss and lifted his shirt off, enjoying the sight that greeted me. “Like what you see?” Ben said cockily, and I scanned his abdomen quickly. “Oh, you know I do.” I said before recapturing his lips in a fiery kiss. He swiftly removed my shirt and I let out a moan as his hands ran over my torso. “God I love you.” He mumbled as I straddled him, looking up at me lustfully. I moved my hips and Ben groaned, bucking his hips up to meet mine. “Hey Ben, do you mind if I… oh my God!” The two of us jumped up at the horrified voice of Will Roland, faces flushed and hair messed up. “Uh… hi Will.” Ben said awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck. “What did I just walk in on?” Will said, clearly still mortified. The two of us laughed awkwardly, fully aware that we were both half naked. “You’re a grown man Will. Surely you can make an educated guess.” I muttered, keeping my gaze as far from Will as possible. “I will never get this image out of my head.” Will muttered and I buried my head in Ben’s chest, my face about as hot as the Sun. “So, are you two dating, or just screwing around?” Will finally asked after what seemed like an eternal silence. “Oh my God, Will!” Ben said, and Will laughed nervously. “I’ll take that as a yes for dating.” Will said, shoving his hands in his pockets. “Yeah. Now, can you please get out of here?” Ben said, voicing my thoughts exactly. “Ok, but that won’t stop me from telling the others, you know.” Will said as he left and I groaned into Ben’s bare chest. “I knew we were eventually going to be found out, but this was probably the worst possible way.” I said, lifting my head off Ben’s chest. “I totally agree. That was, however, the hottest make out session I have ever had.” Ben said and I playfully whacked his chest. “Oh stop it.” I said coyly, picking my shirt off the ground. “It’s true!” Ben exclaimed and I rolled my eyes affectionately. I slipped my shirt on just before we were interrupted by a knock on the dressing room door. The knock was just politeness, because two figures came barrelling through the door. “I can’t believe you two didn’t tell us you were dating!” Rachel exclaimed, wrapping us both in a big hug. “I can’t believe you had to find out via Will walking in on us.” I said and Rachel and Jennifer both laughed. “I know, sweetie, I know. But, at least it’ll be easy for you two to play your roles tonight.” Jennifer said and I smiled at Ben. “Yeah, it most certainly will.” I said, kissing Ben’s cheek. “Now, I don’t mean to be rude, but can you lovely ladies give Y/N and I a moment please?” Ben said, wrapping his arm around my shoulders. “Sure thing. As adorable as mini Platt’s and Y/L/N’s running around would be, just remember to be safe you guys!” Rachel shouted and Ben and I both groaned. “Thanks moms.” Ben said and the women chuckled as they left the room. “I love you Y/N, and you’re going to be a better Zoe than Laura, I can tell.” Ben whispered in my ear, his arms wrapped tightly around me. “I love you too. You’re always there for me, and now I’m glad we can be open about our relationship.” I said, resting my forehead against Ben’s. “You should probably head to your dressing room, but I’ll see you later.” Ben said and I nodded, pressing a kiss to his lips. “I love you.” I said and Ben smiled brightly. “I love you too. Now get your cute little ass out of here.” He said and I chuckled, blowing him a kiss as I left. “Well, well, well.” I heard a voice say and I jumped. “Christ, Will, you have to stop doing that.” I replied and Will chuckled, walking up the stairs beside me. “I am actually very happy for you two.” He said and I smiled, glancing over at him. “Thanks Will. I’m very sorry you had to see what you saw.” I said and Will let out a loud laugh. “It’s all good. To be honest, we were all putting bets on when you and Ben would get together. The sexual tension between the two of you was almost unbearable, but now I know why.” Will said and I whacked him lightly on the shoulder. “That really doesn’t surprise me, to be completely honest.” I replied, making my way over to my dressing room. “See you later Y/N!” Will said as he turned off into his own dressing room. The time before the show passed incredibly quickly, and before I knew it it was time to start Act 1. I was in full costume, and there were 5 minutes to places. “Ben, I’m starting to get really nervous.” I said, wrapping my arms around his waist. “I have the utmost faith in you, and just remember. It doesn’t matter if you’re Y/N Y/L/N or Zoe Murphy, I will still love you.” He said and I gave him a bright smile. “I would kiss you, but I don’t want to ruin any of this makeup.” I said and Ben pouted, a disappointed look on his face. “But I want to kiss my incredibly beautiful, talented girlfriend.” Ben whined, tugging on the sleeves of my shirt. “Benjamin Schiff Platt, you are such a child.” I teased, tapping his nose. “Come on lovebirds. It’s time for places.” Mike said as he walked past, tapping Ben on the shoulder. “Ok, fine. Let’s go Y/N.” Ben said and I smiled at him, waving as we walked away from each other. “You got this Y/N.” I whispered to myself as I got ready to begin my Broadway debut. Act 1 passed in a blur, but my kiss with Ben at the end stood out to me. That kiss wasn’t stage acting, and it gave me serious butterflies. “Oh my God, Y/N, you did so well!” Ben said, pulling me into a quick hug during intermission. “Thanks babe.” I said and Ben squeezed my torso. “I don’t want to watch your life fall apart onstage next act Benny.” I said and Ben shrugged. “It’s all fake baby. I think we’ve gotta get back onstage, but I’ll see you up there.”  Ben said, winking at me as he walked away. I waved at him and prepared myself for another, slightly more gruelling, act of the show. I was wiping away tears by the time curtain call came around, and when I took my bow, thee cheers of the audience blew me away. I looked over at Ben, only to catch him beaming over at me. “I love you.” I mouthed over at Ben and his cheeks flushed as he mouthed back “I love you too.” Once the cast had taken their individual bows I was ready to do the group bow, but Ben’s voice suddenly sounded through the theatre. “Hey guys! This is a little unplanned, and stage management may kill me for this, but I have something I’d like to say.” Ben said and the audience cheered incredibly loudly. “Anyway, how many of you guys noticed that Miss Laura Dreyfus had to step out as Zoe tonight, huh?” The audience roared, and I blushed, looking down at the stage. “Well, I’d like to congratulate Miss Y/N Y/L/N, my incredible, wonderful girlfriend.” Before Ben could continue talking the roar of the audience became unbearable. “Come on you guys! Benjamin is trying to be romantic, so hush.” Will said and the shouts and cheers of the audience quickly became laughter. “I would like to congratulate my wonderful girlfriend Y/N for not only performing exceptionally as Zoe Murphy, but for also making her Broadway debut! That’s right! Her Broadway debut.” Ben said and I looked over at him, the roar of the audience quieting slightly. “You’re gonna make me cry Ben.” I said and the audience laughed, the cast members joining in. “I love you so much, and I am so proud of the efforts you put in tonight, and all the rehearsals before hand. Happy debut Y/N.” Ben said, and I rushed over to him, pulling him into a tight embrace. “What did I do to deserve you?” I muttered and Ben kissed the top of my head, not caring about the audience. “I could say the same thing Y/N.” Ben replied, rubbing my back. “Give it up for young love, both on and offstage!” Kristolyn said and I looked out at the audience, a wave of joy crashing over me. “Nothing will ever, ever beat tonight.” Ben muttered once we were out near the stage door. “That’s very true. Unless, of course, you decide to ask me to marry you.” I said and Ben froze for a second. “"Earth to Benjamin, come in.” I said, waving a hand in front of his face. “"Sorry. I was just thinking.” Ben said and I looked at him quizzically. “About what?” I replied. “"How nice of a ring Y/N Platt has.”
