So there's a champagne ball python at the pet store I work at. I LOVE it, it's beautiful, and I kinda want it. I'm aware of the ethics of it, but my boss wasn't when he ordered it in. Now he is, and agreed not to order more. Would I be supporting breeding neurological disorder snakes by buying it? Someone else would, right? And he did agree not to buy any anymore. Thoughts?
Well, the snake already exists and your boss understands now why it’s bad to order neuro snakes- that snake’s not going away, you can’t hit control-z and undo an animal’s birth. The breeder’s already been paid, so I personally think the most ethical thing to do here is find a good home for the snake. If you’re prepared to deal with any potential issues that come up from the neuro problems attached to champagne, I’d say go for it! You didn’t order the snake, and it’s better that it goes with somebody who’s willing to put the work in than somebody who just comes by and goes “oh pretty!” and takes it home without knowing about the potential for problems.
