I graduate from The University of Texas at Austin next week! It’s been one hell of a ride the past 5 years, one that has taken me from San Antonio to Austin to Tokyo, Japan, and back again.

Now, I’m graduating with dual degrees in education and Japanese and I will be teaching 3rd grade next year at my new job. I couldn’t have asked for a better gig–it’s going to give me a lot of freedom to teach how I want in the best interest of the kids that I am teaching, rather than according to standardized tests, and it will allow me to integrate lots of technology and travel the world in the summers. YES!!

I wanted to make a graduation cap that both stood out and was symbolic. The kanji in the middle is for both my majors combined (”sensei” for teacher in Japanese) and the Pikachu is for my love of art and video games. Pokemon specifically has been my favorite game ever since I was a kid, and now it’s here to help me graduate as an adult.

Happy graduation to all the high school and college graduates of 2015! ovo/)”

I discovered Moomins in Japan, of all places. Toshi, the dormitory guard who I befriended, gave me a whole book about them called 「ムーミン谷へようこそ」or “Welcome to Moomin Valley”.

Moominmamma is my spirit animal. (´▽`ʃƪ)♡
