“It is quite strange…” Magnus muttered to no one in particular. “How different the world is viewed here.” He added quietly. “I was raised in Sweden, which is why I have the accent.” He explained, gesturing to his voice. “And the cultures and views are quite different. I enjoy the change.”
Okay so this is a challenge for myself and for people out there wanting to do one of two things:
1) Progress fast in their main language they are learning
2) Start learning their first new language or start learning a second or third, etc
The idea came to me when I heard about all these “Learn languages in 3 months or 1 week”. I see a lot of people denounce it, but I am here to figure out just how far someone can get in language learning in just 1 month. Now here are the rules for this and if you scroll past the rules to the bold header labelled “What to do” I am going to write a semi-detailed excerpt about how to go about effectively completing this challenge.
- You must choose one language. Why? because the idea is to focus on one language and master as much of it as you can in just a month. If you have been learning German for a year and you want to see how much you can progress with that ,then just use the beginning of the month to start on reviewing basics and then finding a good way to progress.
-You must spend at least a minimum of 6 hours a day on learning the languages. This is done through videos, movies, reading, playing games, studying, apps, etc all in the target language.
-You must have fun. If you make this a “job” it wont be fun. Take this as a chance to learn a new language you have always wanted to learn. Maybe just take this month to see how proficient you get and then move away form it. At least if you ever visit that country you will have a basic background knowledge of that language.
What to do:
How does one begin? If you are starting a completely new language that you have little to no knowledge of ,then I recommend spending the first week of the month learning the alphabet and pronunciation. Then, learn some basic greetings and sayings. Then, learn some vocabulary words. After about a week move on to basic grammar. Remember, even on the days you are learning grammar make sure to study new vocabulary terms. Memorize a song, etc.
The idea is to keep progressing. Each day make sure to talk to pets, family members, friends, strangers, etc in your target language. We don’t have 3 months we have 1 month to do this.
Make sure to post constantly what you are learning. This will not only be a great source for people to use but also a great way to review and summarize what you have learned to reinforce it for that day. @y3lir-europe so I can see what you have done and share it with others. If you have any further questions let me know, I too will be taking part in this challenge. I am just curious to see how effective hardcore studying for just a month can get someone and if it does work maybe I will apply it to the languages I have been learning.
P.S. I am choosing Portuguese because I have recently been hearing Portuguese songs and my teacher and another teacher talk in Portuguese to one and other and I want to join in! So if you choose Portuguese too message me! Also, if you choose German or Swedish you can message me as well for I can help you with progressing in those languages.

“Well.” Magnus started with a hollow laugh. “I suppose today, I turn 27.” He commented quietly. “Is it odd that I have nothing planned? Just to go about my day as if it is any other day?” He questioned the person nearest to him at the moment. “I’ve never been much of a celebrator of things that are so…. Common. I mean, if someone gets married or something, that is a – hopefully – one time occasion. A reason to celebrate. Birthdays… They come every year, and pass a day later. Any excitement developed by them is immediately swept away by the business of the following day. Perhaps I’m over thinking it, and I should have made plans?”
Trump winning does not mean it’s the end of the world, but it will most likely result in a whole lot more bigotry and hatred against all marginalized groups and minorities out there. Take care of each other, and don’t close your eyes to the issues these people will continue to face every day because it may not directly affect you.
Furthermore, if you did vote for him, I encourage you to unfollow me.
Now, I haven’t started noticing these senpais at a good time since they’ve been busy because of exams, but I’ve seen a few too many people asking questions that are just…. what? Seriously guys, it’s like someone just stopping you on the street and asking something like “what’s your bra size/dick length” and expecting you to answer it in front of hundreds of people. It doesn’t matter what else you say, like “ahh I hope this isn’t too rude” because yes, if you have to write that then it is too rude.
Also, I’m not at all trying to say “stop sending asks” like that is 0% the case, Cim and Eva really appreciate us fans. But seriously stop sending invasive messages. I’m aware this applies to an extreme minority, but even so, I still think this is worth saying.
They’ve both expressed how sick they are of these kinds of things, and hell I know they can stick up for themselves and they don’t need me to tell you guys what’s up, but yeah from fan to fan; please respect them.
PS - Please forgive my crap handwriting and any spelling errors
I recently discovered the langblr/polyglot/language-learning community here on Tumblr dot com. Being a huge language nerd myself I just want to say that Swedish is such a ridiculous and lovely language, and if you have any question at all about the Swedish language OR Swedish culture I’m deffo here for you! (I’m a Swedish folk musician myself so I would consider myself to know a thing or two about the folky-aspect of Swedish history)
I don’t even know if this post will reach out to any of you, considering I’m not a langblr and no langblrs follow me (to my knowledge)
But if you, or your Swedish-studying friend have anY question at all or just want to practice Swedish, just send me a message!
When I was 16, I don’t think I knew what the word ‘feminist’ meant. I don’t think I knew the word at all. But I was a feminist. And I hope that the 16-year-olds that will read this book in Sweden will also decide that they’re feminists.
Chimamanda Adichie’s message for Swedish teenagers, who are about to get a brilliant crash course in feminism.
