| stakes is high, the fourth full-length album from #delasoul was released 19 years ago today in 1996. the album received strong reviews but not a lot of commercial #success. for me, this was & is such a #monumental album. it summed up how i felt about #hiphop, especially in the title track. not to mention it featured #jdilla production as well as a sample from ’#swahililand’ by the great #ahmadjamal (check video under this one). the album also marked a change in the group’s #sound & #direction as it was their first release not to be produced in #collaboration w/ dj #princepaul. stakes is high was mainly #produced by the group themselves w/ additional tracks provided by the aforementioned #jaydee (#dilla), #djogee, #spearheadx & #skeffanslem (he get’s props too!). this jawn still goes heavy. big salute to #posdnous aka #plugwon (@plugwondelasoul), #trugoythedove aka #dave (@delasolarvision) & #plugthree aka #djmaseo (@djmaseo). thank you for this gem. now playing : ’#stakesishigh’ (#pressplay ▶).

| a certain album was #released 19 years ago today that was #monumental for me & summed up how i #felt about #hiphop at the time. the #sample used some of you may #remember what this #hiphop song this was used in as well as the album of the same name, some may not. now, if you don’t now is a good time to head to your local #wreckastow (#recordstore) & cop some #vinyl. i will reveal the song in the video above this one in my gallery shortly; but for now go into the store, look for the #jazz section & ask for #ahmadjamal the #pianist. play this song, #sitback & #enjoy. now playing : ’#swahililand’ (#pressplay ▶).
