Close Enough is an upcoming animated television series created by Regular Show creator J. G. Quintel for the TBS network.[3] 13 episodes of the series were ordered by TBS. This is the first collaboration between corporate siblings Cartoon Network Studios and Studio T. The series is described a surreal take on transitioning from twenty something to thirty something. The show revolves around a married couple juggling such everyday challenges as parenthood, friendship, ham theft, stripper clowns and choosing the right day care. The show will debut in fall 2017 or early 2018.

It’s more or less Regular Show but with adult themes. and it looks GREAT

Sneak Peek of Regular Show Creator’s Close Enough

J.G. Quintel, creator of Regular Show and voice of lead character Mordecai, is coming back to TV with a new animated series. The last we heard from him was in May when he shared that he would be partnering with TBS to create an animated series called Close Enough, and now we’re getting our first look with this sneak peek. 

The show looks and feels a bit like Regular Show (and sounds like it with Quintel voicing another main character), but with more adult themes and humor. Now no longer on a children’s network, Quintel and his team don’t have to be as cautious with their brand of humor. 

According to Deadline:

The series is described [as] a surreal take on transitioning from twentysomething to thirtysomething. The show revolves around a married couple juggling such everyday challenges as parenthood, friendship, ham theft, stripper clowns and choosing the right day care.

Close Enough will be 13 episodes. No release date has been announced yet.

When someone gave you a new nickname or directed a new compliment your way, it would make you pause, a fuzzy soft feeling rising in your chest. You knew that the new label would be appearing, written out in inky black letters, somewhere on your soulmate’s skin. Or when someone used a common nickname, or said something which had been said about you before, you tired to picture the letters growing larger, like they always did when a label was repeated. 

And just as you loved receiving any tidbit of information about your soulmate in the form of the words on your own skin, you hoped they would love receiving bits about you as well.

When someone called you something awful, however, it settled very uncomfortably with you. You knew that your soulmate would know. They would see the flaw printed out on their body. You dreaded the idea that it might change their perception of you.

Of course, you weren’t entirely sure they would understand everything. Because, as far as you knew, your soulmate seemed to be Korean.

The Reunion

Per the lovely @illyriangoddess1‘s wishes, I have attempted to bring what was craved (short and sweet maybe?). The reunion between the Inner Circle after Rhys was freed…


I was reeling. My mate. Feyre was my mate. This changed everything.

I vanished from her sight, against all instinct, and winnowed to above the House of Wind, letting my wings out as I coasted to the balcony. I pushed open the balcony door hastily. Mor was in the kitchen holding a plate of fruit. “She’s my mate!” I all but shouted, the adrenaline coursing through my veins, causing me to forget all reason, the fact that I was seeing my cousin again for the first time in 50 years momentarily set aside.

Mor dropped the plate and it shattered, sending the coloured fruits scattering around the room. Her eyes had grown wide and her tanned skin, pale. “Rhys?” She whispered, not quite believing what she was seeing.

She took a tentative step forward and then sprinted across the floor and threw herself at me. I caught her in my arms and tucked her in. I breathed her scent in, as familiar to me as my own but something I had been missing for years. She was sobbing, my name was mixed in between her tears and gasping breaths.

“Mor, it’s okay. I’m here. It’s real. I’ve missed you. I’m sorry.”

She pulled back, not enough to leave my arms but enough to search my face, looking for any injuries. She grasped my face between her hands, “you’re not hurt? How did you get out? How are you here? I never thought I would see you again!” She released my face but hugged me again, hard, almost as though she was assuring herself that I was truly here.

I squeezed her to my chest. “I can’t believe I’m here again. It’s surreal. Thank you for taking care of our home. Thank you for never giving up, even when I did.”

She pulled away, out of my arms this time. “I need to know everything. Mate? Who? What happened?” She was trembling but I could see the strength I always knew she had, holding her together. She had never given up hope on me, on my return home. I could feel that she always expected me to come home, even on the hard days.

At that moment, two more scents swept into the room.

My brothers.

I turned to face them.

Azriel came forward and clasped my forearm just as I clasped his. “Welcome back, Rhys.” He gave me a significant smile, I suspected he was fully apprised of the events that led me back home already but showed nothing else in current company. I would likely be hearing more about my little trick 50 years ago from my Spymaster when we were alone.

Cassian on the other hand, looked murderous. He stalked towards me and I braced myself for it, I deserved it, whatever it was. I would take everything because he gave everything for me, for our Court.

“You’re a damned idiot, Rhys. How could you be so stupid? What were you thinking? Oh, that’s right. You weren’t. You were so caught up in your thirst for revenge that you didn’t think about us and what you left behind that it got you caught under a fucking mountain for 50 years!” He was roaring at this point.

I felt tears sliding down my face, but made no move to wipe them away.

“I thought you were dead or going to die if you hadn’t already. That silence was the worst thing I’ve ever heard. You were gone and there was nothing, nothing I could do to get you back.”

“Cass…” Mor moved towards him and placed a soothing hand on his forearm, concern marring her brow. The tears were openly flowing down his handsome rugged face.

Az had bowed his head, silent acquiescence.

I could feel my heart breaking, again, for what I had put my family through. I could feel how little I truly deserved them, now more than ever. I had imagined this reunion since I had been trapped and it was every bit as heartbreaking as I imagined. Facing them after my stupidity… I would try to make up for that pain for as long as I lived.

Cassian regained his composure and then he pulled me into a hug. He patted me roughly on the back and withdrew. “What I really mean to say is, welcome home ass. Don’t pull that shit again.”

I laughed and wiped my face free of tears. “It’s not something I wish to repeat anytime soon, believe me. I never thought I’d see you guys or Velaris again. It’s like I’m in a dream.”

Az smiled knowingly. “Well, I couldn’t let these two burn it down while you were away. There was always the chance you would get out.”

We all laughed at that and a few protests came from Mor.

‘Where’s Amren? Why isn’t she here crying at my feet now that I’ve returned?” I asked, trying to let the real me back into the world after having had to suppress everything I truly was for so long.

“You know how she is. I told her you had come back and she just shrugged and said she knew you would.” Az answered.

“I expect she’ll wait until there’s food and wine and then make an appearance.” Mor shrugged, the tension lifting from her shoulders.

“What do you take me for? A common dog begging for your scraps? We all know who the dogs of our circle are.” Amren sauntered into the room, a smirk plastered on her face.

I smiled broadly at my second who returned my smile and gave a slight dip of her head.

“Welcome back, High Lord. It’s about time you returned. I was growing weary of the lack of acceptable company.”

I laughed, “Remind me to buy you a gift to add to your collection as an apology for your boredom.”

“Ah, yes. I will never say no to your gifts, especially where apology is due. You have exquisite taste after all.”

Mor glared at Amren and opened her mouth to argue but I interrupted, mostly to save my home which I was very interested in getting reacquainted with, “I have a lot to tell you and we have a lot to do to prepare but first, I need a bath. I need to wash that place off of me for good. Then, let’s eat and we begin.”

god i love welcome to night vale i love it so much

like, okay, as a millennial coming of a age in a fundamentally damaged world where i’m expected to abide by this arbitrary system of rules created by a generation that’s entirely out-of-touch with the constantly-changing social and technological landscape, i find myself living in a world that makes no sense. when you couple that with my various issues (broken family, money problems, depression and anhedonia), it feels sometimes like there’s this huge chasm between me and what people call “reality”. and wtnv gets that.

the town of night vale operates by rules that make no sense. it’s like if you printed out a bunch of conspiracy theories and the complete works of hp lovecraft, mixed the pages up, and then gave this stack of paper to a five year old and told that kid to go nuts. librarians are hideous monsters, the secret police outlaw wheat and wheat by-products, wednesdays don’t exist, and the sky is void. and intermixed with all this are things like a pizza parlor, a barbershop, a bowling alley, an arby’s. and when you combine this absurdity with the neodadist humor of meme culture and the (to borrow a phrase from jack @cryingalonewithfrankenstein) grim cyberpunk present, you get something that makes sense - not as a town, but as a setting. i recognize the town of night vale because it doesn’t make sense, just like the world i live in.

the only way you can begin to understand the shape of night vale is through its voice, cecil. and through cecil you learn about the people of the town: tamika flynn, old woman josie and her erikas, steve carlsberg, john peters - you know, the farmer?, and of course, beautiful, perfect, carlos. the people in night vale are all distinct, and unique. they have their own individual voices and struggles. and their struggles, most importantly, reflect universal human ones.

there are a lot of things that happen in night vale that could and would never happen in the real world. but the way that the citizens of night vale react to them are what forms the emotional core of the show. it’s almost impossible to not relate to them and to understand them as people. their struggles in an absurd world are done so artfully that they mirror and symbolize real-world struggles. and that’s the beauty of the show.

wtnv doesn’t take it’s surreal nature as an opportunity for the gibbering insanity that permeates lovecraftian fiction. instead it uses its absurdity to highlight the most mundane bits of human nature - a boyfriend who gets wrapped up in his work, a teenaged girl who forgets about her loving family and her responsibilities in the world around her, a single mother struggling to connect to her son - and reminds us that these dramas, these small struggles and big struggles and medium-sized struggles, can be survived. tomorrow might be cancelled, but at least we’ll have learned something from today.

i might relate to wtnv’s absurdist, horrifying, bleak landscape in a certain depressing way that can only be resolved through laughter, but its characters inspire me and i can’t ever be too grateful for that.

A/N: Marriage/ Couple rings come in sets of two there is a 100% chance that Touka’s ring isn’t the only Kirishima fam ring around. And since the Kirishima bun buns also come in a set of two, there is a possibility, however slight, that the other ring was given to the smol little black bun. This fic is specially dedicated to the lovely @breakfast-at-anteiku​ who’s like my favorite ever person to talk to about Ayahina and based on these headcanons we came up with a few days ago :D. Finally. Good riddance once and for all.

He pauses at the thought. Right as it surfaces, he knows it’s crap. He knows he’s full of bullshit just like any other time. Just like back when he first buried it wishing it’d disappear for good, only to come rushing back a few days later to dig it up and stare at it, he’s never going to be able to let go of it.

Fuck. Fuck this… I… He curses his stupidity and attachment as he scrambles to dig more soil up. When he finally feels the tip of his fingers brush a cool smooth surface, he’s already a mess. His clothes are dirtied wit scattered soil. His face is stained brown. His fingertips are itching and his nails are clogged with dirt that had nicely settled within. The ring is in no better a condition. At first glance, anyone might think it’s a copper ring instead of a silver one. It takes Ayato a lot of brushing and a lot more rubbing with the cleaner edge of his t-shirt for him to clear off enough dirt to faintly reveal the English carvings.

He stares at it with burning eyes and an itchy throat. It’s undeniable that the ring around Kaneki’s neck and the one lying in his palm came as a set.

Ayato wonders just how Touka is able to pass it on to someone else permanently, when he can’t even keep it buried in a pot without worrying he’ll lose it. How can she, who always turn to it for strength, easily let go of something like that? He wonders what it means for her now— and what the person she gave it to means to her as well.

He has to wonder, if his sister has moved on from their family, ready to find another one. And if so, what is he supposed to do now? He’s always been alone, but never like this.

The digital short, which premiered on April 14, 2007 (two years after The O.C. season 2 finale), shows Bill Hader’s character, Keith, get shot by his friend Dave (Andy Samberg), kicking off a chain reaction that sees Keith shoot Dave back, Dave shoot their mutual friend Eric (episode host Shia LaBeouf), all three men shoot Keith’s sister (Kristen Wiig), and both police officers who arrive on the scene shoot each other. And with each resounding gunshot, the Imogen Heap song cues anew. (Watch the short above.)

Mmm… Whatcha say we parody this?

SAMBERG: When “Hide and Seek” aired on The O.C., we all became somewhat obsessed with that song. I remember listening to it on headphones while we were shooting with Jimmy Fallon on the MTV Movie Awards when we were writers before we got SNL. I remember being on a stage at Universal where he was shooting the pre-tapes and Jorma had it on his headphones, and we kept being like, “God, that song is so cool.”

We couldn’t let go of the O.C. thing and that song, because Akiva, Jorma, and I were obsessed with The O.C. [The sketch] was 100 percent because of that the season 2 finale. It’s a classic moment, and we love doing digital shorts about movie and TV tropes. The “Gunshot That Happens Off-Camera, and Then Everything Cranks Into Slo-mo and Someone Realizes They Have Blood on Their Hands When They Look Up” is a move done a bunch of times, and we always really loved it.

We actually started shooting a version of that short before we got hired at SNL. But we never finished it. We got hired pretty soon after that. And one week when we were particularly desperate, I think I said, “Why don’t we try that O.C. thing again?”

TACCONE: We’d only gotten three or four gunshots in our version. Right?

SAMBERG: Yeah. Up to where Shia was in the SNL one.

TACCONE: It was originally me on the couch and Andy entering and shooting me.

‘We have a weird idea. Just show up.’

SCHAFFER: I don’t think we showed [that O.C. scene] to anybody [on the cast]. We just said, “Trust us. We have a weird idea. Just show up.” When Fred [Armisen] and Jason [Sudeikis] showed up in their cop uniforms, they literally had not even been told what they were doing. We just told them, “You guys are cops. Show up at this place.”

SAMBERG: Bill [Hader] loved it. For a lot of the early stuff, we would be working with Bill since we have a very similar sensibility to him. He’s a super cinephile as people now know. But he understood and loved it immediately as I recall… But we didn’t really have to explain that we were parodying The O.C. because the song was the only thing that made it 100 percent from the show. Everyone else kind of got the reference from other stuff too.

SCHAFFER: We knew that most people wouldn’t know the O.C. reference so we weren’t like, “This is only for O.C. fans.” We figured it was funny on its own to some degree. But we also knew it was just kind of a strange art piece cause it doesn’t really have a necessarily beginning, middle, and end in a traditional sense. It is kind of surreal and just taking apart a trope as opposed to telling a story in any normal way that someone would think of. It’s not a traditional sketch.

‘We’re gonna go artsy today…’

SCHAFFER: There wasn’t even any preproduction involved. The fake gun isn’t even from SNL props. It’s one that we personally owned. I forgot where I bought that plastic gun, but it was something we’ve had for years.

TACCONE: [The shoot] was pretty last minute overall because we really hadn’t come up with the ending of the sketch until we were in the room together actually shooting it, right?

SAMBERG: That’s so crazy. I forgot that.

TACCONE: The fear of not having an ending inspired us.

SAMBERG: How much of that ending did we come up with at that moment?

TACCONE: We had the cops come in, obviously, because we had the costumes and all that stuff. Then we just came up with the cacophony of sound thing on set… Did we have an alternate ending?

SCHAFFER: I think that was it. During the editing, I kept layering music and going, “Ooh We’re gonna go artsy today… This is like an independent film.”

SAMBERG: When we were editing there was a moment where we discussed whether it should go on for three times as long, where the cacophony of sound just continued and we made the audience sit there for a minute and a half while it played out.

TACCONE: We did shoot till pretty late. Right? Not as bad as some of our other shorts.

SCHAFFER: I remember [Jason] Sudeikis in his police uniform asleep on one of the beds in the hotel suite. I think we shot until four.

SAMBERG: That was one of the first times we went really deep.

‘Shout out to Shia!’

SCHAFFER: I don’t remember this but did we show Shia our original half-finished one? Or did we keep that one a secret?

TACCONE: I think we didn’t even have that available to show him. Was that on another computer in L.A.?

SAMBERG: I don’t think we did. I do remember that we tried to get him out of there before we shot the rest of it because he was hosting… But I feel like Shia was just like, “Cool!” He was really, really chill when he hosted.

SCHAFFER: He was just kind of up for anything.

SAMBERG: I remember when we started editing, we were all really impressed with how realistically Shia let his head hit the ground.

SCHAFFER: That’s a real actor. He kept his eye for the shot of his eyeball. We were like, “This is a real actor.” I remember thinking that not ironically.

SAMBERG: Shout out to Shia.

SCHAFFER: Yeah. We’re big Shia heads.

The Force It Awakened

SCHAFFER: I remember feeling pleasantly surprised that people got it. I’m not even sure what there is to get. But the audience seemed to enjoy it and cheer when it was over. That was a relief and somewhat of a surprise to me.

TACCONE: And that song holds up. Bon Iver did his own version of it on that new album.

SCHAFFER: We’ve never heard from Imogen Heap [about the sketch] but we’re sure it’s helped sell more singles.

SAMBERG: We have heard from their camp that we can’t have the sketch on Hulu.

SCHAFFER: That was just not for any real reason except that we didn’t pay for the rights. That was back before the Internet mattered. So when NBC would clear rights to a song they would clear it for broadcast and for reruns, but not for the Internet.

SAMBERG: It actually wasn’t originally called “Dear Sister.” The internet named it.

SCHAFFER: That is true. It was before things got put on the internet right away on SNL. We didn’t get to name it ourselves. We called it “The Shooting” all week and it was called that in the SNL rundown. But then because it wasn’t posted by anybody at NBC, it was only posted by fans and one of them just called it “Dear Sister” and that stuck to the point where we started calling it that as well.

TACCONE: There are a lot of copycat videos, which is cool. Homage videos on YouTube. People do it with other movies and they would make their own and stuff, which is awesome.

SAMBERG: It’s pretty great. There’s Platoon, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Harry Potter. All these moments where somebody gets killed, where you don’t see a gun.

SCHAFFER: Did somebody do it with Kylo Ren killing Han Solo?

SAMBERG: Oh my god. That’s a perfect one. Also, spoiler alert!

SCHAFFER: [Looking up the video] That’s not a real YouTube view count on the sketch at all. Look at the date I put that up compared to when it came out. That view count would be much, much higher had that been posted at the time. This was me a few years ago realizing that, “Oh, it’s nowhere online.” So I just went and grabbed it and threw it on our YouTube channel just to have it up somewhere. So that 14 million is what it got this far after it’s popularity. But I guess that is a testament that people are still looking it up if it got that many since the last three years.

mom gave me some desk organizers and i remembered that i will actually have an office at a university in a couple weeks. it’s a shared office with other masters students but it’s still my office! i’m so excited
