surprises in the mail

anonymous asked:

Au where petunia is a witch and lily is a muggle?

When the letter arrives, Lily is almost as excited as Petunia. She writes Albus Dumbledore to ask if she can go to, and if she cries a little when the answer comes back no she doesn’t tell anyone. Lily waves from the train platform, writes diligently, and listens with excitement whenever her big sister deigns to share stories of magic.

Petunia gets Sorted Slytherin, where she falls into a mutually-venemous friendship with Severus Snape, who she had considered dirty and poor when he was skulking around Lily in their little neighborhood, lighting leaves on fire like a baby arsonist, but who now seems like the best ally in a pool of ugly little fish.

The blood-purists are their normal asshole selves, which Petunia responds to with busybody eavesdropping, cruel gossip, and manipulative emotional bullying. Severus calls her mudblood in their fifth year (it’s not the first time) and joins the Death Eaters. Tuney calls him a greasy git of a wanker and they still have lunch away from prying eyes now and then.

When the war comes, Petunia does not fight in it. She marries a Hufflepuff boy named Vincent Dunsley who spends their entire first date telling her about his junior position in the Ministry and his planned thirty-six bureaucratic steps to the top of the food chain. Vincent has no problem with Muggleborns, or at least not ones who behave as properly as Petunia.

Lily does fight. She’s been reading the Daily Prophet for years as she sits through history class dreaming of brooms and punching bullies on the playground. At seventeen, she writes Albus Dumbledore again. When he still writes back no, she packs a bag and shows up on the Order’s doorstep.

Alice Longbottom gives her a place to stay, some spare robes, and teaches her how to fly– Lily hopes, wrapped in a warm blanket while they sip cocoa and discuss action plans, that if she’d gone to Hogwarts she’d have been good enough to get Sorted Hufflepuff. Frank beams at his wife in the dim yellow light.

Of the Marauders, Lily meets Sirius first– shaggy hair and strong bones, he’s a tall glass of water and he’s anxiously watching a skinny, scarred boy sleep on the sofa. They’re an hour off a mission and Remus crashed as soon as they got back to headquarters. The first thing Sirius Black, troublemaker and risktaker, says to her is “Shh! You walk like an elephant.”

She’d snap back, but Remus does look that worn down, curled on the cushions.

Peter and James are in the kitchen, shoveling sandwiches down their gullets that are the size of their heads. James staggers to his feet when she comes in. “Hi. Uh, new recruit?”

“Something like that.”

James shoves his hair out of his eyes with one hand and thrusts the other one out in her direction. “James Potter,” he says. “Beauxbatons? I don’t think I ever saw you at Hogwarts.”

She grins. “Lily Evans,” she says. “Cokeworth. And I’d shake your hand, but you’ve got mustard on it.”

Lily defies the Dark Lord and his forces three times, with James’s wand at her back, with Remus’s and Sirius’s and Peter’s. They tell her about Hogwarts and its secrets, and she brings them Muggle candy bars and the boxes of X-Men comic books from under her bed. No one gets chocolate smudges on her pages, under threat of James’s disappointed-in-you face, which he’s been practicing.

Severus Snape hears about a Muggle Evans on the warfront. “Petunia’s not a Muggle,” he snaps when Dolohov mocks him for it, but Crabbe cradles his broken arm and keeps talking– about green eyes, red hair like a war banner– and Severus’s stomach sinks low in his gut, cold and aching.

Severus Snape overhears a prophecy and he tells it to his Lord. Lily Evans Potter is the mother of a halfblood boy with a mess of dark hair. Lily is in Augusta Longbottom’s living room, playing peekaboo with Harry and Neville, because Alice and Frank are already in St. Mungo’s, because she does not know that she is soon to be not a soldier but a fugitive. Her child has no scars, yet.

On Halloween night 1981, Tom Riddle goes to the Godric’s Hollow home that Peter Pettigrew betrayed. He kills James in the front room, wand in hand. He kills Lily in the nursery, after giving her a chance to step aside. He tries to kill Harry, but he fails.

Harry goes to his closest living relatives– his aunt Petunia, uncle Vincent, and cousin Dudley. He sleeps in a little room just off the kitchen, which he thinks used to be a broom closet. They hate the attention he brings when he’s dragged behind his aunt at the grocery store, so they leave Harry home when they go to Diagon Alley, Ministry potlucks, or the evening shows that Dudley fusses through, fists full of pumpkin pasties.

Harry knows how to wash dishes by hand, how to cook bacon without burning it (most mornings), and how to capture the spiders in the broom closet and escort them carefully outside. For his birthday Dudley gets a toy broom. For his, Harry gets an Albus Dumbledore Chocolate Frog card because Dudley already has fifteen and didn’t want that one. Petunia likes to peer over the hedge into the yard of Mrs. Figg, the squib who lives next door, and snigger about how she has to do her laundry without magic.

When Harry is ten years old, his Hogwarts letter comes in the mail and the Dunsleys are surprised. “I wasn’t sure,” Petunia sniffs. “I mean, with my sister’s blood in you and everything, anything could have happened.”

I was on the Daily Mail site for a random reason and ran across this.  It’s not in the article itself (the one on 1D’s net worth), but it’s the thumbnail for it.

It’s 2017 and we still have these ridiculous stereotypes.

Niall as the “wholesome” one?  Are they forgetting that he’s the one who cursed so much that he was quiet in interviews because he wasn’t sure he would remember not to swear?  Are they forgetting all the women they’ve claimed he dated while they already had other boyfriends or that supposedly left their boyfriends for him? (No, he didn’t really date those women)

Harry as the hot one?  I mean, Harry’s hot, but even my coworker who knows nothing about the boys and isn’t particularly interested was surprised at how attractive all of them are.  They definitely kick the boy band cliche of having a few hot members and a few that aren’t so much.  They couldn’t come up with anything more specific for Harry?

Liam as the “sensible” one?  It’s like we’re back to Daddy Direction which hasn’t really been a thing with the boys for years.  Plus, I find their definition of “sensible” interesting since they’re claiming that Liam was up for having a baby with a woman he’d only been dating for a few months who had 2 failed marriages and was still married to the last one. (No, it’s not really his baby)

Louis as the wild one?  Louis is definitely rebellious and mischievous, but they’re clearly capitalizing on the airport thing to try to make him look reckless and violent when he’s a level-headed sweetheart in reality.  He was super reasonable and peaceful in that airport debacle.  Many people would have engaged after being hit at, but all he did was break up the fighting and escape the conflict as soon as everyone was safe.

And Zayn.  It’s an absolute farce how much Gigi is in Zayn’s business where she doesn’t belong.  It’s to the point where even in this photo, she takes up 75% of it when it’s entirely about Zayn.  (No, he’s not really dating her) Also, the “brooding” one?  Just because Zayn has resting gorgeous-and-pensive face doesn’t mean he’s brooding.  He’s intellectual, principled, artistic, loyal, dorky, goofy, sweet with fans, and has a smile that lights up a room.

Pairing: Dean x Reader x Sam

Prompt: Reader is shy (but secretly kinky)

Warning: SMUT, Dom/Sub Relationship, Language, Minor Angst, Polyamory,

A/N: I’m pretty confident that this is the smuttiest thing I’ve ever written. I apologize for nothing. Happy Birthday Melissa and I sincerely hope you enjoy this. All errors are my own, gifs/pics found on google, and as always feedback is very much appreciated.

Summary: Dean and Sam realized a long time ago they were in love with their shy hunting partner, but never thought they’d ever had a chance. Needless to say, a random accident leads the boys to a shocking truth about her and hopes that just maybe they’ll stand a chance with her after all.

Sam wondered down the hallway to your room looking for your laptop. He was in desperate need of a new one but since you were away on one of your weekend excursions he figured he could easily grab yours to finish the research he had been working on. He grabbed it heading back to the library as Dean brought out the lunch he’d been making for them.

“Isn’t that Y/N’s laptop?” Dean asked as he took a bite out of his burger. “Sure she’d be okay with that?”

“Yeah she’s let me use it before and I’m nearly finished.”

“Awesome. Have you heard from her?”

“Not since we talked to her last night,” Sam offered. “You know she’ll be back tomorrow with some weird story and ply you with pie and that’ll be it. Stop worrying.”

“I can’t help it, Sammy. You know how she is. I mean to be a hunter she’s the shyest person I know. I worry,” Dean shrugs as Sam smiles at his brother.

“I know what you mean Dean, but she lives with two guys she’s probably just visiting friends or something. Hell maybe she has a significant other I mean we’ve never seen her hook up with anyone before,” Sam trailed off when he thought about Y/N with someone and he could see that Dean agreed. Dean and Sam had several conversations once they realized they both had feelings for you. Although they ultimately decided that neither would pursue you unless you showed an interest, they knew you probably never would. Dean admired how strong you were despite your timid nature and Sam had this desire to protect you from the world.

In the weeks following what they’re calling The Battle of New York, Bruce settles into the Tower with an incredible ease.

The floor Tony designed for him is shockingly well-suited to his tastes and needs considering how Tony likes to claim he’s not a team-player. Bruce suspects each floor is equally well-designed and perhaps that’s why they’re all able to slip into a routine so quickly.

It feels like something missing has slotted into place and Bruce can tell just by looking at the others’ faintly bewildered expressions when they look around at the space they share that they feel the same.

Still, Bruce never looks toward Harlem.

REASONS WHY BRITAIN IS TOTALLY RUINED THESE DAYS, NUMBER 16,490: “Abandonment of dining rooms.”

Under One Condition (Grayson)

Summary: You and Grayson are in New Jersey visiting his family for the holiday season, and when Cameron introduces her newborn son to the family for the first time, you find yourself questioning whether or not it’s time to start your own family with the love of your life.

Word Count: 2,471

Warnings: Super freaking cheesy and fluffy. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Author’s Note: So, with all of the heartbreaking and heavy stuff I’ve been posting lately, I decided it was time for a change of pace and to give you guys a light, fluffy one shot, but I haven’t forgotten about “From the Dining Table”! It should be done by the end of this week, at the very latest. Also, if you haven’t heard, Eliza ( @prettybabyhazza ) and I are teaming up to complete part two of her “Drunk on the Mic” fic, so keep an eye out on our blogs for that! I hope you enjoy! Requests are open.

“Merry Christmas!”

A sing-song of greetings float through the house as you and Grayson enter the front door of his parents’ home. You’re engulfed in hug after hug by extended members of Grayson’s family and you smile through it all, knowing that you’re not going to be able to remember everyone’s names as they’re rattled off to you, but you nod and say ‘hello’ to them anyway. This isn’t the first family gathering you’ve been to with Grayson, but it is the first in the seven years you’ve been dating that you’ve been introduced to all of his aunts, uncles, cousins, and more, and something about the small milestone causes your heart to sing.

Still shivering from the harsh Jersey winter, you unwrap your coat and scarf from your body, hanging them on the mount in the entry way. Being from the Midwest, you’re no stranger to the cold, but even the lake-effect winters you’re used to experiencing could have never prepared you for the bitter seasonal chill only found on the east coast. As Grayson’s family disperses and begin to strike up conversations with others in the house, the smell of ham and green bean casserole cascades down the hall from the kitchen and into your nostrils. You close your eyes and inhale sharply, not being able to remember the last time you had a true holiday feast.

“It’s Mom’s specialty,” Grayson leans over and whispers in your ear when he notices your excitement.

“If it tastes as good as it smells, I’m shocked you didn’t learn how to cook sooner,” you respond with a wink.

“Hey, I was stubborn, okay? And I didn’t exactly have a normal childhood; Mom wasn’t able to just sit me down and teach me at sixteen like every other kid.”

You shoot a sideways glance at him. “’Was stubborn’?”

“Okay, I still am stubborn. But you, miss,” he says as he pokes you in the ribs, “might be even more stubborn than me, a feat I never thought could be possible.”

“Excuse me! I prefer the term ‘headstrong.’ It sounds much less bitchy.”

Grayson chuckles and steals a quick kiss before gently taking your hand and leading you to the kitchen. As the two of you round the corner, your eyes begin to scan the room for the rest of Grayson’s immediate family. You quickly find Ethan slaving over a bowl of homemade mashed potatoes and sharing a laugh with his mom, who’s doubled over a cutting board, chopping up various vegetables and throwing them into a veggie tray. She has a hand towel draped over her shoulder, her is hair twisted back into a large clip, and as she makes eye contact with you, you smile warmly and envelope her into a hug.

“There you are! We were starting to think you guys ditched us.”

“No, no! We could never,” you state, your chin vibrating on her shoulder with every syllable. “The layover in Virginia took longer than anticipated, but we should have called to warn you. I’m sorry about that.”

She pulls back from the hug and reaches out to tuck a stray piece of hair behind your ear. “As long as you’re here now, that’s all I care about.”

Grayson takes his turn hugging her while Ethan approaches you and throws an elbow around your neck, placing his lips to your temple lightly. You close your eyes at his touch and squeeze his hand dangling over your shoulder before unraveling yourself to grab drinks for you and Grayson. As an only child with divorced parents, holidays and family events were never made a spectacle and you often found a stronger sense of community within your closest friends than you did with your own relatives. However, once you started dating Grayson, you quickly learned that he and his family were a package deal, a gift that you weren’t expecting but wouldn’t return for the world. His parents soon became your own, and his mom was the one you always approached when seeking relationship advice or just wanting to have some “girl talk.” His dad was the one you called when you were stranded on the highway in the middle of nowhere with your first ever flat tire, and after talking you through how to put on the spare, he surprised you a week later by mailing a check to the home you and Grayson shared with “for your new tires” scribbled in the memo line. Ethan, as cliché as it sounds, ended up becoming one of your best friends and fiercest protectors. He was apprehensive of you at first, always trying to catch you off guard with hard-to-answer questions and making comments on the sly about no girl ever being good enough for his brother. It wasn’t until Grayson’s appendix ruptured in the middle of the night five years ago that you became close with Ethan; after rushing Grayson to the hospital, you called Ethan panicked and afraid, not only knowing that he would want to be there for his brother, but because you couldn’t fathom the thought of spending hours in the waiting room alone. When he arrived, he held you until you stopped crying, reassuring you that it was just an appendix, not a heart attack. It was in that moment, when Ethan saw the fear of potentially losing Grayson swimming in your eyes, that he knew just how much you loved him.

But, it was with Cameron that you felt luckiest of all. Growing up, a sister was the only thing you could have ever wanted; it was your only wish when you would blow out birthday candles and it the only present you’d ask for when sitting on Santa’s lap in the mall. It was also the only thing you had never been given. You would have traded all the trips to Disney World and all the cars your mom had bought you in a heartbeat if you could just have had a sister. Meeting Cameron, it felt like all your prayers had been answered. The two of you undeniably clicked, and you weren’t sure if there was one thing that she didn’t know about you. She was the second emergency contact you’d list on all of your medical forms after Grayson, and you were her maid of honor in her wedding last year. Pictures of the two of you doing everything together from going to hockey games to having sleepovers fill up your photo library on your phone, and she has a spare key to your house dangling on her car keys. Because the two of you were practically inseparable, your heart was absolutely crushed when you got the call last month that she was going into labor with her first-born son while you were overseas with Grayson on some kind of promotional tour for his latest video project. While her husband, Kade, had you on FaceTime during the delivery, it wasn’t the same and you felt like you had betrayed her as a friend. Because you and Grayson just touched down in the States last week, tonight would be the first time meeting your new godson, Carter, and you couldn’t be more thrilled.

After pouring glasses of eggnog for you and Grayson, you saunter over to the kitchen table to join the conversation he’s having with his family. You place the glass down in front of Grayson while he pulls out the empty chair next to him and you plop down in it before Ethan, who’s sitting across from you, throws his sock-covered feet onto your lap. You pat his shin, give him a wink, and redirect your attention to Grayson, who’s thumbing through his mom’s pictures on her phone. Picture after picture that appears are all of Carter in a blue cap, swaddled tightly in a blanket, staring blankly into the camera. These are all pictures Cameron sent you separately in the hours after his birth, and you rest your head on Grayson’s shoulder as he continues to thumb through them, making comments every now and then about how chubby he is and how fragile he looks.

Suddenly taking note of Cameron’s absence, you furrow your brows together and lift your head from Grayson’s shoulder, panning around the room to look for her. Ethan, who notices your confusion, shoots you a concerned look and you lean forward to inquire about her.

“Where’s Cam? I thought Gray and I were the last ones showing up tonight?”

Ethan pulls out his phone from his pocket and opens his thread of text messages from his older sister, skimming over them before finding the one he’s looking for.

“She texted me about an hour ago and told me that Carter wasn’t keeping down any milk, so she didn’t know if she would make it tonight or not.”

“Why didn’t she text me to tell me, too? She knows I’ve been waiting to meet him since we got back from Europe.”

Just as Ethan opens his mouth to respond, an all too familiar voice sounds behind you. “Because I wanted to keep Carter’s arrival a surprise!”

You whip your head around to find Cameron entering the kitchen, Carter’s portable car seat draped over her elbow, Kade following close behind her. You begin to squeal as you shove Ethan’s legs off of you and jump out of your seat to throw your arms around her. She gives the car seat to Kade, who starts to unbuckle Carter, before wrapping her arms around you and squeezing you in response. The two of you are laughing uncontrollably at the sheer joy of being with each other again, and as the rest of her family begin to stand up to greet her, you pull back to find her face.

“Oh my god, I’ve missed you so much, Cam.”

“Y/N, don’t even get me started on how tough this month has been without you. You guys will have to tell me all about Europe as soon as we settle in, okay?” She glances at Grayson before greeting the rest of the family. You approach Kade and give him a peck on the cheek before glancing down at Carter, who’s stirring and cooing in his seat.

“Guys!” Ethan shouts across the house as you bend down to scoop Carter up, “Cameron’s here! We can all eat now!”

Moving into the living room to avoid all of the commotion and chaos of over thirty people trying to feed themselves a Christmas dinner, you sit down on the couch and lean against its back, cradling Carter in your arms. Grayson follows suit, and soon he’s sitting next to you, one ankle crossed over his thigh, his arm draped behind you. Carter begins rooting, searching for a source of food, and you give him your finger to suck on before resting your head back on Grayson’s shoulder.

“He’s so beautiful, isn’t he?” you whisper to Grayson. “And you’re right, he’s the most fragile thing I’ve ever had the pleasure to hold.”

Grayson reaches his free hand out to stroke Carter’s cheek before resting it on your thigh. “He really likes you, Y/N. Look at the way he’s staring at you.”

You glance down into Carter’s piercing baby blues and are suddenly overwhelmed with a feeling unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before. With every blink of his eyes, the burning love for him in your chest only grows stronger and you find yourself involuntarily pulling him closer into you, as if to try and protect him from danger. Staring at this baby, at your godson, you come to the realization that if his life was ever in harm’s way, you’d sacrifice yourself for him in an instant, no questions asked.

Carter begins to stir, and you lift him up to place his stomach on your chest. You begin patting his back softly, and within no time, he drifts into a peaceful slumber, his head falling on your shoulder. You glance at Grayson, Carter’s innocence and vulnerability suddenly hitting you like a ton of bricks.

“You’re a natural at this, Y/N.”

Your eyes begin to well with tears at Grayson’s compliment. Scooting yourself closer to him until your sides meet, you mutter a desire you never thought you’d find yourself having before, but suddenly it’s so strong and so powerful, nothing in you can ignore it:

“I want one.”

“What?” Grayson shifts his body to face you directly, obviously taken aback at your statement.

You sigh, wrapping one arm around Carter and freeing the other to take one of Grayson’s hands.

“I know we’ve talked repeatedly about how content we are with it just being the two of us. We’ve been together almost a decade now and we haven’t really had to think about anyone but each other. This, the two of us, it’s familiar, it’s comfortable, and it’s safe. You make me feel safe, Gray.”

“So, why the sudden change of heart?”

“Just look at him. Kade and Cameron, they love each other so much that they made a brand-new human and brought him into the world. Carter, he’s full of love because that’s literally what he’s made of, and I love you Gray, more than anything else in the entire universe. You are my light and my warmth and my reason for existing. Imagine taking that and turning it into another being.”

Tears begin to spill over your ducts and as Grayson works to wipe them away, a grin breaks out on his face. “Our lives are going to change indefinitely. Are you sure you’re ready for that?”

“As long as I’m with you, I’m ready for anything.”

Grayson reaches over and begins rubbing Carter’s back softly. You notice that his eyes begin to darken, a tell-tale sign that the gears in his head are turning at maximum speed. He glances at you, and then at Carter, and then at you again before sighing heavily.

“You know, you’d make one hell of a mother.”

You smile widely before leaning into Grayson and locking your lips with his, careful not to disturb Carter. After a couple of moments, he pulls away and raises his eyebrows, indicative of him getting ready to speak.

“I’m absolutely ready to start a family with you, Y/N, but only under one condition.”

You cock your head to the side. “And that condition is?”

“I make you my wife, first.”

A tingling sensation takes over your whole body and you feel your heart beating faster than you ever thought possible. The entire room around Grayson begins spinning so quickly and forcefully that his eyes are the only thing anchoring you from spiraling out of control. You don’t know if you’re able to push out any words, but you try anyway, coming to the realization that nothing about your existence will ever be the same after this moment:

“You’ve got a deal.”

Part 2: here

These are all made by me, and some of the puns are mine as well. Really hoping my friends don’t see this because I sent them some in the mail & wanted to surprise them, haha. I just started watching Naruto this year & put it on pause at ep. 200 because I was going back to school after winter break—so no spoilers please!

Also, feel free to use my cards, but it would be nice if you could give me credit ^^; I was spending time making these instead of studying for midterms, haha.

One Breakfast at a Time

(Rough Around the Edges, pt. 2)

Summary: The following morning…

***

Boris’s feet felt prickly.

The first thought that dredged up the wolf’s mind from the thick, murky mires of sleep was that there was a foreign, uncomfortable feeling in his toes. It wasn’t quite painful, but it was distracting. Which was a shame; quite honestly, as the rest of him felt like it was swaddled in a soft, warm cloud, like lying on a mountain of fleece. He was dreaming of sleeping on the back of a large, comfy sheep. Maybe if he moved his feet right, he could shoo the strange sensation away and get back to sinking completely into the wool.

His toes twitched, and the tingling feeling went up both his legs completely. That hurt.

“YIPE!” Boris yelped, knees hiking in alarm, eyes flying open.

The first thing that greeted him was strange visual tones and hues, blurred from the sleep in his eyes and the tingling in his feet. They were—oh, whadyacallems?—Blues. And Greens. Only lighter, greyer, faintly cast across the ceiling above him, making him squint. It followed the outline of a windowpane.

His foggy mind thought, not for the first time:

How long will it take before them colors look normal?

Motion at his side had him shaking his noggin, revealing the familiar heads of to his pals, moppy and disheveled from sleep. Alice muttered something under her breath—when had her halo hung itself up on that lamp?— and Bendy snuggled closer into the pillows, a bit of drool staining the soft cushion.

Recognition stumbled into his brain as his eyes adjusted to the dim early morning light.

He wasn’t sleeping on a bed of fleece. He was sharing a bed with Alice and Bendy, feeling mighty cozy in spite of being too long to rightly fit on the mattress length-wise, which explained why his feet weren’t under the covers. The tingling must’ve been because they’d been leaning over the end board all night.

Asleep, his feet were asleep. That’s what this feeling felt like. Except… it was much stronger than how it’d felt before, back in the world drenched in ink.

Dang, the real world felt strange.

Trying his best not to disturb the other two sleeping Toons, Boris slowly pulled his bare feet under the blankets, wincing as he flexed the tingling feeling out of them. They were cold to the touch, as were the ends of his ears and snout, a stark difference compared to the comfy warm bubble formed underneath the covers from his proximity to his friends. If he stayed still enough, curled up a ball, maybe he could go back his sweet, soft, monochromatic dreams…

The door creaked, and Boris was awake.

In the semi darkness, the wolf made out the shape of a figure entering the room, familiar in spite of his loss of Toonification. It was Henry.

Err. At least. Boris was pretty sure it was Henry.

The man had Henry’s almost square-ish head, large ears, surly set face and all, but in place of the man’s wrinkled light green shirt and brown slacks was a plaid patterned collared shirt, all blues and grays, sleeves rolled up to the elbows, and the bottom half of a dark grey jumpsuit, faded at the knees and the top half wrapped messily around his waist. His black work boots were word around the souls. It all smelled faintly of engine oil.

A change of clothes shouldn’t have been completely out of left field for the Toon (as he recalled, Bendy changed his wardrobe a number of times over a wide variety of episodes), but the old animator’s plainer duds had almost seemed glued to him. Seeing Henry in less plain-looking clothes felt like seeing a camel in a bunny onesie. Strange.

He silently watched Henry tread to the bedside table on Bendy’s side of the bed and leave a note next to the lamp. The man looked haggard, but clean. His hair was even combed.

Boris considered keeping his head down, pretending to be asleep. But then, just as it looked like he was about to leave, Henry stopped and turned around, looking back at the bed of Toons. Contemplating, eyes unfocused and glassy—from lack of sleep, perhaps?— grey circles under them. The wolf’s felt his heart clench, and he lifted his head.

“Henry?” he whispered.

Henry jumped and caught himself on the wall.

“JEEZ—” Henry breathed, forced his voice down. “Boris— scared the daylights outta me.”

“Sorry—!” Boris’s ears fell back. “Sorry.”

Henry put a hand to his chest and sighed. His eyes looked less glassy, more awake.

“Agh, I didn’t wake you up, did I?” Did Henry look guilty? Nah, it must’ve been Boris’s imagination.

“Nah,” said Boris, truthfully. “Feet fell asleep. Woke me up instead.”

The corners of Henry’s mouth twitched. If Boris didn’t know any better, he could almost mistake the man’s grimace as a smile. It almost met his eyes.

“Headin’ off somewhere?” said Boris, nodding towards the note.

“Just about,” whispered Henry.

He motioned for Boris to follow him out of the room, finger to his lips. Boris nodded, trying to be mindful of jostling the bed, so as not to rouse Alice or Bendy. The wolf was thankful for his thick coat of fur (ink?) once he was free from the blankets, as the room was fairly brisk without the protection. Boris swallowed a whine and followed after the grizzled animator.

On their way to the den, Henry grabbed a large, dark green jacket from one of the hampers in the hallway. He gave it a tentative sniff to check if it was clean, shrugged, and offered it to Boris. Boris sniffed as well. It smelled of Henry and mothballs. It would do. The sleeves came up an inch short of his wrists though.

“Gotta go plead to the powers that be that I don’t end up unemployed before the day’s end,” said Henry once they were a safe whisper-free distance from the bedroom, sighing and scratching his neck. “I, uh, took a few more vacation days than I’d originally planned.”

Boris’s stomach dropped, guiltily. The studio.

“Oh, golly… wha… that was our fault—”

“S’nobody’s fault,” said Henry, patting Boris’s shoulder. They passed the couch. It didn’t show any signs of Henry sleeping on it. “I might have to work a few extra shifts to make up for it though. My boss, Callum? Not exactly known for being forgiving, but he can be fair when he needs to be.”

Boris nodded, faint memories of his own past experiences with “unforgiving bosses” arising. His tail tucked between his legs, the wound from the harsh look on Joey’s face all those days ago in that office now fresh in his mind’s eye. When the air was thick with acetone and Henry’s open cartoon wounds. His nose twitched, feeling a little sick at the memory.

“M-Maybe I should come with ya,” said Boris, the weightlessness of Henry leaning on him ghosting along his shoulder. He gripped it. “Help explain a few things—”

“Boris,” said Henry. There was no harshness in his voice, but it was still firm. “I… I appreciate it, Pup. I really do. But… you need to stay here. All three of you. Lay low for a while.”

Boris tried his best not to look discouraged. Henry patted his shoulder again and gave it a squeeze. It felt odd, not having to look down on Henry as much as he had when the animator was still a Toon. Henry squared his shoulders, and Boris felt assured.

“It’s… too much, out there,” Henry nodded to the window. A car honked, followed by another, and across the way, some neighbors were opening windows to do laundry. A lady waved out a large red blanket, and Boris had to flinch at the brightness of the color, visible even in the dim early morning. “Too much to get used to all at once.  Besides, I know Callum. I’ll be alright.”

Boris felt like crawling into an inkwell. He knew Henry was right, but it wrung his nerves like wet laundry. He felt so… useless. He was supposed to be the helper, the best buddy. He sighed.

A kettle whistled.

“Oh, shoot—” Henry rushed to the stove and turned the knob, using one of the dangling jumpsuit sleeves to take the metal pot from the heat when he couldn’t find his oven mitt, setting it on his oven mitt so the counter wouldn’t burn— ahh. Found the mitt. Hmm. “Sheesh… I, err, tried making something quick for breakfast for you all before I left, but, well. The mess. Heh. Wasn’t able to get as much done as I was hoping…”

Boris turned to the counter while Henry prepared a quick coffee for himself, and noticed, to his surprise, that the tower of bills and mail had been cleared off, leaving room for three sets of plates, bowls, forks and spoons of varying style and size. Each plate had a couple eggs, sunny-side up, glasses of water, and steaming hot bowls of oatmeal—with walnuts and molasses, from the looks of them. Bois sniffed the air above the biggest bowl (he hoped it was his) and licked his chops. It smelled pretty dang good.

Breakfast wasn’t the only change to the den. The mess from last night seemed to have all been pushed to the side, the floor for the most part cleared of debris, if still in need of a vacuuming. Trash bags sat stacked next to the door, ready for dumping, full of the empty bottles and boxes.

…How long had Henry been up, working on all of this?

“Ya didn’t have to…” said Boris, ears flopping back. “Dunno if we really need to eat.”

“A good breakfast might liven up the mood around here,” said Henry, smirking. At least this time it reached his eyes. He quickly downed the contents of the mug, grimacing. “Aghh, love the feeling of burnt tongue in the morning.”

“Ya do?” Boris laughed.

“Nope,” Henry laughed in turn. He set his mug in the sink, which was filled with other much dirtier mugs as well as pots and pans, and put a small tin reading Express-o, Coffee on the Go away. A cast iron skillet was all that was left on the stove, which looked surprisingly well cared for, considering the state of Henry’s other kitchen items. Guess that explained the eggs. He pointed to Boris. “Tea boxes are on the counter too, should be enough hot water between all of you. Don’t let Bendy drink my coffee. I’ll call you all when I’m on my way back. Don’t answer the phone for anyone else.”

“Wha?? Buh—how-how?” said Boris, getting whiplash.

Henry pointed to the other end of the den. A black, faintly dusty dial-up phone sat on the floor, next to the far wall, with a note taped to the wall over it. It read a variety of instructions in Henry’s chicken scrawl shorthand, and a blessedly legible phone number at the bottom. It looked as if it’d been dug up from one of Henry’s old boxes.

“I’ll call three times in a row. Only answer if you get three calls within a few seconds of each other,” said Henry, grabbing a toolbox next to the couch and as many of the trash bags as he could carry. “Other than that, just let it ring.”

“Whuh- wait, Henry!” said Boris, heart leaping in his throat. “I-I’m not so sure we…”

Boris turned to the window, grabbing the sleeve of the jacket. The sun was raising more and more, the world outside of them starting to wake up. Yellows mixed with grays, turning them brown and sandy. He was sorely missing his dreams, drenched in black and white.

“Hey, hey,” said Henry. His hand was back on Boris’s shoulder.

Boris turned to him, every inch of his face dropping, expecting to get one of Henry’s signature rigid, authoritative glares, waiting to be given the hard facts of their situation. Instead, he got a tired, yet… understanding smile. It was lopsided and rough around the edges, and looked wildly unsure.

“It’s ok,” said Henry, in a voice that, despite what his face betrayed, sounded pretty dang convincing.

The wolf felt something inside him—something that he’d kept bunched together throughout the drive, the climb to Henry’s apartment, the scary few minutes this morning where he first experienced his feet falling asleep in the real world and how real the real world felt and how he wasn’t really a wolf he wasn’t real was he?— unclench and, without thinking, he leaned his head on Henry’s shoulder, sagging weightily. Henry teetered, not used to the wolf having a third dimension’s worth of weight to him, but evened out, and wrapped an arm around Boris’s back, toolbox counterbalancing him.

“This is a lot to take in,” said Henry, gruff voice a welcome sound for the poor, overwhelmed wolf. “Don’t rush yourselves through it. Thing’s’ll get easier. I just…” His grip tightened, strong, grounding. “We just gotta make some things work first.”

The wolf whined.

“I just wanna help,” said Boris, voice feeling thicker than glue. “I ain’t much of a good helper though. I couldn’t even help you or Bendy or Alice when everything came crumblin’…”

“Now now, none of that,” Henry almost laughed.

Boris almost had enough nerve to get annoyed, if not for what Henry said next.

“That’s no way to talk about the guy who saved my life. And Bendy’s and Alice’s. And then mine again.” Henry stopped, smirking when he felt Boris quietly snort. “And Bendy’s, again, about, what? Five more times?”

“Mmmh, you’re just saying that…” Boris didn’t sound completely convinced, but the knot loosened a fraction. He pushed from Henry, trying to stand his full height. His cheeks had their old stylized blush back; his ears almost perking sincerely. Almost. He let them droop, eyes downcast. Henry sighed.

“For now… none of us know what we’re doing,” said Henry. “Not even me. And I’m from here. But we’ll figure it out.”

“…one breakfast at a time?” said Boris, trying to smile. It was shaky. Oh, he felt so shaky.

“One breakfast at a time,” said Henry. He reached up and scratched Boris between the ears, and Boris relaxed. He felt his tail wag, if only just a bit.

“But seriously,” Henry added. He was grinning, almost… devilishly. “Keep. Bendy. Away from my coffee. If I come back and find him bouncing off the walls, I’m hiring an exorcist.”

Boris was so taken aback, he couldn’t help himself. The thought alone was so ridiculous, but seeing Henry actually try to crack a joke? Utterly too much to comprehend. The wolf howled a laugh right out loud.

And it felt scarily, wonderfully real.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA IT’S A HAPPY HOPEFUL ENDING TO THIS FIC.  THIS IS MY WEAKNESS.

THIS IS ALL MY WEAKNESS.  I LOVE THIS SO MUCH.

Soul hums in broken affirmation as Maka takes the bomb in the cage of his ribs and detonates it, carefully, in her embrace.

anonymous asked:

Can I request something? RFA + V & Saeran finding out MC has feelings for them.. but they don't feel the same way? ToT.

(。•́︿•̀。)

Yoosung

- You admitted it after a cute movie the two of you had watched. Little movie hang outs being a well-welcomed habit between the two of you

- But, as the words started pouring out, his expression turned so sad.

- “Mc… I really appreciate it, I do! I just… I don’t think we’d be good together.”

- Mr. Never-Had-A-Girlfriend was rejecting you, even after such flirting from before?

- When you asked him about that, he rubbed the back of his neck, unable to look you in the eyes.

- “Well… I think I was just confusing my feelings for you. I realized I just really admired you instead, and it was never anything more than that.”

- He was still sweet enough to try cheering you up when you started crying a bit. He even went on to tell you that just because he didn’t return your feelings, that it didn’t mean no one liked you at all.

- (In fact Zen had been making some hints towards you)

- But even after all his kind words, the two of you slowly stopped hanging out. It was hard talking to each other, and sometimes difficult even being in the same room.

- You kept it simple in the chat, but after every time you met in person, it was hard not to have the tears well up again.

Zen

- You decided to mail him a cute romantic letter. That way when he picked up his fan mail, he’d have a nice surprise from you!

- It was so worrying writing the letter. You wrote it over about five times before you finally sent it- With a stamp and card that reminded you of him.

- So you waited a day or two, and then you finally received a call from him.

- “Heyyy, Mc,”

- You giggled and greeted him back. “Did you get my letter?”

- “I did, I did. That’s, uh. Why I called…

- His tone wasn’t what you were expecting, and you frowned while waiting for him to continue.

- “It’s a sweet letter, it really is, and it’s so thoughtful, but… Mc, I think you don’t really like me for me.”

- “…What do you mean?”

- “All this stuff you wrote- It’s exactly what my fans write about the characters I portray. It isn’t anything about the real me. Just the me up on stage. I’m sorry, Mc. I… I don’t think it would be good for us to go out together. I think you’d just be disappointed.

- Your heart snapped. You couldn’t help it- The sniffles coming from your end as he bounced around from trying to cheer you up, to explaining how it was for the best.

- But you couldn’t do it. You hung up on him.

- He didn’t even try calling back.

- From then on, any time he popped in while you were on the chat, you instantly logged off. Any time Jaehee got a bit too excited about his new plays, you popped off. Hell, even when Jumin let out a small complaint about Zen you found your chest constricting and needing to go cry privately.

- The parties were hard, but at least he was always swarmed by fans.

Jumin

- To see him, you had to work within his schedule. His busy, hectic, schedule.

- When you walked in after thanking Jaehee, you fumbled with your hands.

- “What were you needed to discuss? Was it about the next party? Any funds that are needed I’ll be willing to cover.”

- “No, no, it’s not about that.”

- He finally brought his head up from his paperwork, giving you a curious look.

- “Jumin, lately I’ve realized my feelings-”

- “I’m sorry, Mc, but no.”

- He… he didn’t give you a chance to even finish.

- “I’ve noticed for a while you had started acting like most women towards me, so I knew this day was coming, but no. Don’t worry, I’ll still talk to you. The RFA needs to continue the parties, anyway.”

- You stood awkwardly for a moment before nodding a bit and excusing yourself.

- You didn’t get on the chat for a few days, or even open up the app. When you did, you were greeted with so many texts.

- Of course Jumin had nonchalantly mentioned it! You felt so stupid, so childish.

- You couldn’t even look him in the eyes anymore.

Seven

- He knew it as soon as you started bouncing jokes right back at him

- He knew it the moment you didn’t care he was pushing you away, the moment you promised to help him find his brother.

- He knew it, and it hurt so much.

- After the commotion died down, you had tied a note around the little cat robot he made for you, and had it surprise him one day. You thought it would be cute!

- You thought he liked you back.

- But suddenly you were spammed with on onslaught of messages.

- “I’m sorry, Mc, I’m so so sorry.”

- That was the basic summary of the messages. He felt so bad, you could tell from his texts, but he still couldn’t afford someone getting close to him. Not with his past.

- Not with his brother still having issues.

- “I love you, I do, just not like that. I won’t be able to ever love anyone like that.”

- You ended up getting rid of the stuff he had made for you, but you still kept the cat.

- At least it was able to cheer you up.

Jaehee

- While it was true she was into girls… She couldn’t bring herself to actually date one.

- The worries of being openly together, the worries of being attacked or yelled at… She couldn’t live that life, much less could she do that to you.

- When you admitted your feelings to her, with a cute cookie set that spelled it out, she felt her heart drop as she rejected you.

- It was for the best, you both knew it, but god that didn’t mean it didn’t hurt.

- She tried cheering you up, but what could she do?

- Everytime she was on the chat, you tried your best to converse with her, but it was clear to everyone you were still hurting

- She was still hurting

V

- You had made him such a cute and sweet letter in brail. He had recently fully learned it, something he was so proud of.

- So you mentioned you had a surprise and handed him your special letter.

- He was smiling at first, but as his fingers ran through the letter, his smile quickly faded.

- He ended up putting the letter to the side halfway through.

- “Mc… You know I still love her.”

- You were suddenly thankful he couldn’t see you that well. Your fists clenched, your eyes watered, and you even felt that familiar hot buildup of saliva in your mouth.

- You wanted to puke.

- “I know…I know feelings are so easy to catch, I know your feelings are most likely sincere. But I’m sorry. I can’t let go of her. I don’t think I ever can.”

- You put on a fake voice, smiling and trying to act like you understood.

- But how could he still be so blindly in love with someone who caused him so much pain?

- You didn’t visit him again after that. Jumin was a bit concerned, but after meeting with V again he knew.

- RFA parties were really awkward after that.

Saeran

- How could you have feelings for someone like him? How could you like someone who had killed people with his bare hands?

- The moment you handed him such a cutesy pink letter, he didn’t want to read it. You could see the apprehension etched on his face.

- When he crumpled up the letter, you realised maybe he wasn’t as recovered as he seemed.

- “You can’t handle me, mc, don’t even pretend that you can.”

- You tried to explain yourself a bit, not expecting him to get so upset, but that just made the issue worse.

- “I can’t trust you! You don’t know me! You don’t know anything about me, expect I’m the ‘poor person’ with a horrible childhood and I was taken in by some cult. Hell, my own brother doesn’t even know me yet. Why the hell do you think you know me?”

- You couldn’t talk, you just bit your lip and tried not to make your tears too obvious, but that failed when he threw your letter at you.

- “Get out of my sight.”

- Later on, when you finally managed to look at your phone, you saw so many texts from Seven, apologizing for Saeran’s behavior, but honestly… You knew he was right.

- You didn’t know him.
