The sun blazed brightly through the curtains, abruptly ending Lukas’ peaceful slumber. He frowned as he drowzily rubbed his eyes, omitting a soft groan of displeasure. He wished he has woke up to the smell of coffee and a quick peck to the cheek instead. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. A few moments passed, and Lukas was out of bed and getting ready for the day.
Mathias had taken a two-week leave on a business trip, something Lukas despised. Even though he could be quite loud, he was a great source of comfort and love to Lukas. He always missed him even if he didn’t say that directly to his face.
Today was the day he was arriving home, something the both of them lookes forward to. Lukaa wanted to tidy up the house a bit before he arrived. Besides that, there wasn’t too much else to do. After a small lunch, he was out of the house and on the way to the airport.
It was half-past two when Mathias plane arrived. Lukas stood up eagerly and waited in quiet anticipation at the sight of his love. A few minutes passed and he appeared. Grinning softly, he walked over with a light and quick pace. His smile wavered, however, when he saw that Mathias wasn’t returning his signature smile. He looked a bit pale and dark circles lined the underside of his eyes. It couldn’t have been jet-lag, so obviously something was wrong.
Despite his intruding thoughts, he still pulled him into his arms. “I’m glad you’re back,” he murmured and looked up into his eyes. Mathias tiredly smiled with a small, “me too,” but that was it. He didn’t burst into his usual chatter or smother Lukas’ face in kisses, something that always embarassed him in public. He just wore that same expression that was clearly covering something up.
“What’s wrong?” Lukas asked as he took him by the hand, leading him to the baggage claim.
“Nothing,” he replied quickly. His voice sounded quite raspy.
“No, really, what’s the matter?” Lukas picked up his suitcase and faced him once again, looking over his features for a second time. Mathias let out a long sigh knowing he had lost despite his sluggish efforts to seem like he was okay.
“I think I got sick over the trip..,” he murmured, ashamed that he had to ruin Lukas’ day like that. He really had wanted to take him out to a nice dinner and, if Lukas felt up to it, walk through the streets of Copenhagen.
Lukas nodded and gingerly touched his forehead. “Jeez, you’re really burning up.” He gently took his hand and squeezed it. “Let’s get you home.”
Mathias felt a soft hand rubbing his cheek and a peck to his temple as he stirred from his nap.
“Wake up, sweetheart. We’re back at the house,” Lukas calmly stated as Mathias groggily opened his eyes. He sluggishly unhooked his seatbelt and pushed open the car door. Lukas helped him out and carefully led him up into their room. Mathias sat on the bed as Lukas helped to slip off his clothes and dress him in a more comfortable attire.
“I’ll be right back,” Lukas said quietly with a quick peck to his forehead. Mathias gave a mere nod before falling back onto the bed. He let out a few small coughs and a miserable groan.
Lukas returned about fifteen minutes later with a bowl of soup and a bottle of medicine. Mathias was still in the same position, causing Lukas to let out a soft chuckle. He repositioned and tucked him into the bed and placed a soothing hand against his head. He frowned at how much hotter it was than earlier, so he left immediately rushed to get a cold towel. He gently draped it over his forehead and caressed his cheek.
Mathias was so exhausted that he was barely responding to him. Lukas was able to get in a few spoonfuls of medicine before he was completely asleep. He concluded it would be best to save the soup until tomorrow.
Lukas sat on the edge of the bed and softly stroked his hair. He hummed a soft lullaby despite him already being asleep. He watched over him for several hours as he slept, analyzing every breath and cough, making sure it wasn’t evolving to something worse. Once he deemed it safe, he slipped on his sleepwear and joined him under the covers. “Sleep tight,” he murmured and kissed his shoulder, gently curling up beside Mathias. Listening to Mathias’ slow and congested breaths, he fell into a dreamless sleep once more.
Hope you all like this. It was quite fun to write. If I’m not too busy, you can request some ideas, and it doesn’t have to be limited to DenNor. Have a great night (or whatever time it is)!
