Well, sometimes larger amounts of butyllithium is needed and it would take too much time to get out everything from a “Aldrich sure seal” bottle through the concrete hard septa with a syringe and needle…
n-Butyllithium, abbreviated BuLi or
nBuLi is an organolithium reagent used as a strong base
(pKa ≈ 50)
in organic chemistry and as a initiator for the anionic polymerization of dienes in polymerchemistry. Due to the large difference between the electronegativities of carbon (2.55) and lithium (0.98), the C-Li bond is highly polarized and the BuLi is highly reactive.
Well, okay, but why was the septa and the fancy bottle? Alkyl-lithium compounds are stored under inert gas to prevent loss of activity and for reasons of safety, since they react with everything, from moisture in the air, CO2, labcoat, skin, face and everything. n-BuLi is not that bad compared to the sec- and tert-BuLi, but it could also ignite easily and it’s really hard to extinguish, since it will probably react with the extinguisher. It is usually handled using air free techniques to prevent mishaps and serious problems, so if you use BuLi, don’t take off the septa, use a needle and argon gas.
1 - Crystal Hack: You really don’t need special crystals to work your magick. Places like Walmart and most dollar stores have cute polished rocks that can work just as well when charged with intent. You can also just go find them out in the wilderness if you’re the outdoorsy type! Just pay attention to colors, shapes, and if you find them yourself look at where you found them for their associations! If that isn’t doing it for you, grab some acrylic paint and paint runes, little pictures, even just write words on them to strengthen their meaning to you. Be sure to seal them with Mod Podge or even clear nail polish so the paint doesn’t chip off!
2 - Dirt: It’s dirt cheap! Hahaha Joking aside, if you don’t mind the bit of extra work many practitioners use different kinds of dirt for different spells, and if you put some thought into it you can find good associations for most spells. I’ll list a few below; Graveyard Dirt - Spirit work and hexing (Be sure to ask permission from the spirits first!) Crossroads Dirt - Life changes and hexing Dirt from a Police Station or Courthouse - Magick relating to laws, justice and correcting wrongdoing. (You may want to avoid this one if you don’t want to draw the attention of the law to yourself.) Dirt from Your Own Home: Protection of the home, family and hearth spells Dirt from a Place You Want to Live: To help you find a good new home The list goes on and on, an entire post could be made just listing the kinds of dirt that can be used in different spells, (Maybe a post for the future?) but just give it some thought and you can find an association to dirt for just about any spell.
3 - Candle Hack: Most practitioners know you can substitute white candles for just about any other color, but did you know it’s super easy to make your own candles? If you’re in the position to be able to order a few affordable things from Amazon or Etsy (or if you can make a trip to a local craft store) and have access to a heat source you can make any kind of candles you want! I often buy cheap white candles from the Dollar Tree just to beef up my collection of colorless wax and I always save the wax from old candles or wax melts that have lost their scent so I can add it to new candles! Just get yourself some basic wicks (or google how to make your own) and either buy some heat safe glass jars or a candle mold and there you go! You can also add herbs that you associate with the kind of spell you want to do to give your candle a bit of extra umph!
4 - Herbs: You do not need fancy organic herbs from a foreign land to work magick, the herbs you find at your local grocery store will work just fine! Don’t get me wrong, fancy herbs can be fun but they aren’t really necessary. For any specialty herb you read about I guarantee with a google search you can find a mundane culinary herb you can use instead.
5 - Sigils: I love sigils because you can make them anywhere anytime and do anything with them, all you need is a pencil and a piece of paper. Do a quick search for “how to make sigils” and you will find a whole slew of different methods, pick one out that works well for you and start getting creative! In a pinch you can turn any spell into a sigil, just charge it up and go!
How do you power your magic? As with anything magical, there are far more answers than any one person would care to know. When it comes to spells, what you use can have a potent influence on the efficacy of the spell. Whether channeling, transmuting, or just using your own internal energy, it’s good to consider the source of the spell’s power when crafting it. More traditionally minded witches look toward the elements and herbal/crystal correspondences, but there’s also plenty of other ways to power your spells! Here, I review some common and uncommon energy sources and how to use them. This list is most certainly not exhaustive and is intended more to provide a starting point for thinking about what makes different energy sources unique. If you don’t already, I encourage you to think critically about the sources of magical power you use and what makes them so effective!
The sun - As the primary provider of measurable energy such as light and heat, the sun is essential to life. Solar energy is potent and unfiltered so it’s very powerful, but also undirected. For both physical and magical purposes, solar energy has to undergo transformative processes in order to be useful to us. Channeling solar energy to power a spell is a common practice, though it should be done with care since the sun tends to burn up whatever it touches when used irresponsibly.
The moon - The moon is the gentler counterpart to the sun. It traditionally fills a more mystical role, better suited to emotionality, secrecy, and protection than raw strength. The moon’s phases also offer clear time periods to suit different goals, especially ones that need time to develop. Many practitioners choose to time their workings by the moon’s phases, like to ensure that a spell manifests by a certain point in time.
Candles - A candle is a firey energy source that can be easily manipulated by the practitioner. Like all fire-based energies, it is best suited for creative works, strength of will, etc. Candles are especially useful due to the high degree of specification they can have. A candle dressed in oil or carved with an intention can be more closely bound to the magical goal and thus more easily channeled into the spell. Herbs, colors, sizes, and scents may also be used to attune the energy source to the goal. Furthermore, the practitioner has direct control over the source itself and can make use of lighting and extinguishing the candle as a means of manipulating the spell’s energy.
Grounding, earthing - There seems to be a bit of disagreement over whether grounding is best used as a conclusion to a spell or as an energy source for a spell, but I think the reason for this is that there are several different kinds of grounding processes. When grounding a spell after its completion, the practitioner is sending the existing magical energy back into the world in order to allow it to take effect and manifest. Grounding as an energy source is a way of channeling energy from the earth (or the universe) to power your spell. Both are good techniques in my opinion, though I tend to find other ways of concluding and “sending out” my magical works similarly effective.
Railroads - Railroads are an old form of energy, at least as far as man-made sources go. They are a good source of energy for things that need a lot of strength, or that need to travel long distances. They also have a significant association with trade and commerce, as well as with moving or traveling for pleasure.
Subways - I find myself using subways most often for work related magic. I find the electrified third rail to be a powerful point to tap into when working spells that need to reach across the city (like calling for trains to come sooner) or when I’m working in the direct vicinity. Subway commuters tend to be pretty well synchronized to the ambient energy, so you could also probably use some of it to affect the atmosphere on the platform or give yourself a little boost of energy before heading off.
Outlets & Adapters - I love using adapters for charging little charms and sigils! It’s a pretty neutral energy, plus it’s well suited to passive charging. Usually, I can leave stuff sitting on my laptop adaptor overnight and find it all juiced up in the morning. You could also definitely transmute it for use in more structured/ritual-based spells, though I find it a bit awkward to include.
Personal energy - Like most things, the magical practitioner themselves may act as an energy source. In some cases, this is desirable as it allows for a very personal mark on the spell. Tying a spell’s energy to one’s own will and strength gives the practitioner direct control over the spell and also can help them keep tabs on how active the spell is. On the other hand, a spell might require more energy than the practitioner has to offer, potentially draining the user unexpectedly, causing the spell to fail, or both. Personally, I use my energy when I have some extra to spare, which is a nice way of saying I dump all my anger into my curses. When doing that, I also make sure to seal off the spell when I’m done so none of it comes back to me. If you choose not to seal off your workings entirely, you may leave a limited connection in order to keep tabs on whatever it is you’re powering. I do this for simple servitors and wards so that I can keep them from running too low. I wouldn’t recommend dumping all your energy into a spell all at once because you can and will exhaust yourself.
Channeling - Channeling is less a source of its own and more a means of using sources like those mentioned above. When channeling energy, the practitioner simply acts as a conduit to direct external energy into their magical work. Channeling is generally regarded as a pretty basic energy work skill and is virtually essential for witches, regardless of path. Of course, now that I’ve said that, someone’s going to tell me they have a practice that never uses channeling, but hey, that’s how it goes. I think the trickiest part of channeling is keeping your energy and the energy you’re channelling separate. Obviously, your own personal energy can be used in a spell, but that gets exhausting fast and if you’re trying to avoid that by channelling, you should be careful not to still end up draining yourself too. Likewise, channelling opens you up to direct contact with external energy sources, some of which you may not want lingering around. If you’re worried about getting stuff mixed up, try working with a familiar energy source like a crystal or a plant before working with more powerful energy like the sun or a planet.
Transmutation - Like channelling, transmutation is a way of making use of energy. Its main difference is that instead of using an energy specially chosen for the practitioner’s purposes, they simply pull from what’s around and transform it on the fly. Transmutation requires a bit more practice than channeling, as you have to modify the energy you’re bringing in before you can make use of it, but it’s also damn convenient. I find it best used when working with neutral energy, especially the kind that seems to linger around cities and man-made sources. Neutral energies can also be combined through transmutation, so you can even mat Transmutation of natural sources is most definitely possible, but it’s best suited to the kind of generic energy that you’d find in unprogrammed quartz rather than say, trying to transmute the energy in lavender for a nasty curse.
I wrote this very quickly and I’m not sure it makes any sense but here just take it!! & please feel free to add on with any of your favorite energy sources and how you use them

Drabbles!!!! Lance wants to get some flowers for his long-awaited date, Keith, so he goes into a flower shop to find a nice bouquet. Except one catch, Lance is very allergic. Like, needing-an-inhaler Very Allergic
hoW DO I DRABBLE THIS OMG??
The date’s been coming together as smoothly as the final pieces of a puzzle displaying a stunning, complex image. Keith and Lance’s relationship had been rocky, for better lack of words. Many assumed they would never be able to work past their differences to even be friends, yet they pushed against all odds, and Keith made the move and asked Lance out once the two had sealed a friendship for a few months.
Lance, of course, had been over the moon when Keith asked, and since then, he’s been plotting the perfect date. All that’s left is to piece together a beautiful bouquet from the local flower shop then he can pick Keith up and whisk his date off to dinner and a movie.
When he opens the door to the flower shop, a small bell chimes over head, and moments later, Shiro pops up from behind a shelf of vases.
Lance has only known Shiro for a few months, but he’s fond of the guy. Shiro’s the type of person who is incredibly easy to talk to, and the two had become quick friends.
“Hey, Shiro. What’s up?” He asks, rubbing absently at his nose as a soft smile plays at his lips.
“I should be asking you that,” Shiro says, motioning toward Lance’s outfit. “Finally got the big date with Keith?”
Lance nods, sniffling quietly as he starts further into the store, fingers ghosting above various flowers. “Yep! I wanted to pick out a bouquet for him.”
“Nah, I’ve got this,” Lance says as he leans forward to closely examine a cluster of red roses. He knows red is Keith’s favorite color, but he’s not sure if roses would be too forward of a gesture. He straightens his back with a slight cough that has him frowning and rubbing gingerly at his throat.
He was feeling fine before, more than fine, yet there’s a persistent itch building in the back of his throat. A brief flash of hot panic shoots across his mind, bringing with it vivid images of childhood days in the hospital after severe allergic reactions that triggered his asthma, but, he thinks to himself, shutting down all memories, it’s been years since he’s had a bad reaction.
Don’t these things fade away with time?
He clears his throat and continues picking through the various flowers, but the itch at the back of his throat begins to burn and grow until he’s turning away to cough into the crook of his arm. He figured one or two coughs and he’d be fine, but the second he starts, he can’t stop. It’s almost as if his lungs cannot take in enough air against a massive, burning lump clogging his throat.
“Lance? Are you okay?”
Looking toward Shiro is a struggle for Lance’s eyes are filled to the brim with tears, but he can still faintly make out the older boy’s worried features. He shakes his head and wraps one hand around his throat. “Can’t,” he wheezes out around rattling coughs. “Breathe.”
“Shit! Okay, hang on!”
Lance nods, watching against hazy vision as Shiro storms to the front of the store. His legs buckle, and he’s slumping toward the floor with harsh, dry coughs that seem to never end.
Lance looks up from his spot on the back of the ambulance to see Keith racing toward him, face deeply flushed and chest heaving as if he’s just run straight from work.
“Keith,” Lance starts as the boy gets closer. “What-”
“Are you alright? Shiro called me and told me everything! What the hell were you doing in a flower shop if you’re severely allergic?”
Lance’s gaze finds the cracked pavement of the small parking lot once more just as his shoulders slump enough to have the small blanket that’s draped over his shoulders slip down some. “I wanted to get you flowers for the date,” he mutters.
For an endless moment, Keith is silent, but Lance cannot find the courage to pull his gaze back up. He’s so sure that this sealed his fate. Why would Keith want to be with him now? Why would-
It’s not the words that have Lance snapping a quick gaze up, it’s the light tone laced with concern. “You aren’t mad,” he says, voice forming a statement and not a question. There’s nothing displayed across Keith’s face that shows anger in the slightest.
“What? No. Jesus, Lance. No. I’m just worried.”
The sincerity in Keith’s tone has Lance’s eyes welling with tears. He struggles to form words, but luckily, he doesn’t have to because Shiro is walking toward them with a bouquet of red roses in his hand.
In an instance, Keith spins on his heel and promptly blocks Lance from the flowers. “Shiro, what-”
Lance leans over to peek around Keith’s protective stance. “What?”
“We have some fake flower in the back,” Shiro explains, handing the bouquet to Keith for inspection.
Lance shifts his gaze to the fake flowers in Keith’s hands. “Thank you,” he whispers, and Shiro offers a quiet nod before taking his leave.
“How about a date in tonight?” Keith suggests, thumbing a fake rose as he turns back to Lance. “I can cook you a nice dinner than we can watch a movie.”
Lance doesn’t want to admit the exhaustion that’s settled over him after this whole ordeal, but Keith can see it without having to ask. Both know Lance wouldn’t make it through the dinner and movie tonight, not after an asthma attack of that severity.
Nodding, Lance slowly slips off the back of the ambulance, abandoning the small blanket in favor of finding Keith’s hand with his own.

Do you have any spells to help with anxiety for exams? and do you use sigils?
I don’t know of any existing spells to address this specific issue but I do have an idea! And to answer your question, yes I do use sigils, in fact I’ll be using one to help you out right now!
You can enchant whatever writing utensil(s) you’ll be using for your exam to establish a calming effect with the intent of mental clarity, concentration, and confidence. My boyfriend has exams coming up too so since you gave me the idea, I enchanted a pencil for him and took some pictures of the process to use as an example.
Before you head off to take your exams, whip up this little treat with a pen/pencil, a small piece of paper, some tape, and (optional) lavender essential oil. I went onto sigilscribe.com to make a quick sigil which states the intent “I am calm, confident, and focused”, and drew this sigil on the small piece of paper. You can either use this sigil or create one of your own!
Next I added a small drop of lavender oil to the paper. Lavender has a calming effect and is frequently used to help treat anxiety. Adding a drop to the paper will give off just enough scent to actually physically help treat your anxiety as you’re writing!
Make sure the oil has completely dried on the paper. Then take your sigil and wrap it around the pencil/pen in an area where it will be out of the way while you’re writing.
All that’s left to do is grab that tape and seal the sigil around the pencil. Clear tape would be best for this! Make sure when you’re sealing it that you’re just using enough tape to close the sigil around the pencil and keep it in place so you’ll still be able to get the scent from the lavender oil!
That’s it, now you’re ready to ace those exams with a magickal boost of confidence on your side! I wish you the best of luck!
HERBS AND ESSENTIAL OILS - Research them thoroughly before applying topically, ingesting or diffusing!
Do NOT assume something is safe because the packaging doesn’t say its dangerous, or because you grew it/its natural
ALL THINGS are made up of chemicals - some are good, some are bad; sometimes only parts are harmful, sometimes there are processes of making things safer and sometimes its best to let professionals do it and purchase a finished product, you are not less of a witch for doing so, its cheaper sometimes anyway.
CRYSTALS should also be researched thoroughly, many are water soluble, you can’t always wash your crystals with warm water and soap, make sure you read up on specialized care for each crystal type you have - don’t let a crystal dissolve in your hand, don’t let them sit out in the sun endlessly, some you would be better off purchasing to make sure they’ve been sealed to protect you and protect your crystal from corroding. Remember, everything is chemicals, even crystals and mineral rocks.
DO. YOUR. RESEARCH.
Remember those safety rules in science class? Follow those closely.
After a few years of saving Amazon credit and waiting for a copy that wasn’t $1000 or more, I finally bought the Dictionary of Occult, Hermetic and Alchemical Sigils by Fred Gettings. Gettings is a bit of an enigma, but he wrote that Dictionary of Demons that Kaneko is confirmed to have owned and potentially used when designing SMT1′s demons. This book is the rarest of Gettings’ works, it seems to have only received two (small) printings in the 80s, and was originally printed in 1981.
I wanted this for exactly its purported function: To be able to decipher the symbols within demon seals, like Stolas’ above, in addition to being an ultimate reference for any future projects. I’m pretty sure the seals might still be nonsense, but at least I know the symbols they contain aren’t, and a lot of them appear to be derived from alchemy. So much of the book is entirely inscrutable! I love it.
Hell of a day to receive it, too. If the earth yawns forth untold legions of demon armies, it wasn’t me, it was that other guy!!!
Materials: Source of DNA you wish to save Medical grade glove set x2 Double ended Q-tips Ziploc baggie that a Q-tip fits in Antibacterial soap A freezer Black Sharpie marker
Put on gloves as a safety precaution, make sure there are no holes.
Using the Q-tip, soak each end in the DNA you’ve selected to use. (You can use blood, period blood, semen and spit.)
Dispose of the used gloves.
Let air dry a bit in a safe out of the way place to help prevent ice from forming from the moisture, or skip this step if you are not comfortable leaving out your sample.
Place the sample, wearing the second set of gloves, into the bottom of the ziploc baggy so that it lays down flat against the bottom.
Remove gloves and using the Sharpie, write the name of the person who the DNA belongs to.
Next starting at the bottom, roll the baggy around the Q-tip, pushing out all the air you can.
Once you reach the top of the baggy, close the baggy. Make sure it’s completely sealed shut.
Place baggy with DNA in a secure spot within your freezer.
Wash hands vigorously for at least 30 seconds (sing the happy birthday song) using antibacterial soap.
When you need any of the DNA, simply cut a small piece off of one of the Q-tip ends and place the rest back in the freezer. Always squeeze out any air and seal tightly. Use as many Q-tips as you like. But no more than about 4 per baggy. They can stick together. NEVER store DNA from different people in the same baggy.
And most importantly, ALWAYS BE AWARE OF COMMUNICABLE DISEASES AND USE EVERY PRECAUTION. Only forgo the gloves if you are POSITIVE that the person who you’ve collected DNA from does not have any communicable diseases. In my personal case, I only forgo gloves with myself, my hubby or close family.
