EPISODE #39: How SpongeBob Gets His SquarePants

“Are you ready kids?! I can’t hear you!”  SpongeBob SquarePants is cartoon royalty and adored worldwide, but what goes into making our favorite sponge fresh, hysterical and a fan favorite year after year? This week supervising producers Vincent Waller and Marc Ceccarelli break it all the way down to Bikini Bottom.  The series vets provide krusty insights on how the team cracks a story, collaborates, brings visual life to the written word, and relies on the incomparable brilliance of many artists until each episode is grilled to Krabby Patty perfection.  It’s no surprise why Team Hillenburg has mined comedy gold for almost two decades, and why Patchy’s pirate chest will be filled for eons to come!

Big thanks to Vincent and Marc for joining us! You can follow Vincent on Instagram & Twitter!

Confirmed majetes: TMNT 2012 will end later this year with season 5

The kid network will be rebooting its current CG “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” series as a 2D animated series with the title “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (working title) ,  26 episodes of the 2D reboot to air starting in fall 2018.

“The Turtles is a property that has reinvention in its DNA, which keeps it fresh and relevant to every new generation while satisfying the demand from its adult fans,” said Cyma Zarghami, president, Nickelodeon Group. “’Turtles’ has been an incredibly important franchise for us since we reignited it five years ago, and we’re excited for the new series to take the characters in a different direction with more humor, a younger and lighter feel and all-new dimensions to explore.”

The new 2D series is co-executive produced by Andy Suriano (character designer for the critically acclaimed Adult Swim series “Samurai Jack”) and Ant Ward (supervising producer, current “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”) at Nickelodeon in Burbank, Calif.

I am super excited to announce that Star vs the Forces of Evil is getting an original book! “Star and Marco’s Guide to Mastering Every Dimension!”  The book is written by Star’s Supervising Producer Dominic Bisignano and writer Amber Benson! It is so much fun and gives you tons of info about Star and Marco’s world that we were never able to fit into the show.  YOU WANT THIS BOOK!

The book also comes out March 7th and you can pre pre-order RIGHT NOW on amazon!

Supervising producer, Lauren Montgomery, in her office on Friday. Only about half of her office toy collection is visible in this shot. And this is only her *office* collection. Along with our other supervising producer, Ryu Ki Hyun, and under co-executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos, Lauren oversees the episode directors and storyboard department, which (at least on our show) is a gargantuan task. On top of all that, she is a commander in our war against retakes, a battle we always seem to be losing. For all of her efforts, we pay her in toys. Don’t tell the union.

Disney XD also order a 4th season of Star Vs The Forces Of Evil

Star vs. The Forces of Evil, from creator and executive producer Daron Nefcy, returns for its third season in the summer.

The showfollows Star Butterfly (Sher), a fiercely awesome teen princess from another dimension,as she navigates high school, embarks on dimension-hopping adventures across the multiverse and battles arch-nemesis Ludo and his monstrous forces of evil alongside her best friend Marco Diaz.

Thevoice cast includes Sher as Star Butterfly, Alan Tudyk (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as Ludo and Adam McArthur (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) as Marco. Star vs. The Forces of Evil: Star and Marco’s Guide to Mastering Every Dimension, a hardcover book based on the series and written by the series’ supervising producer Dominic Bisignano and Amber Benson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) will be released by Disney Press ‪on March 7.

Disney XD said that the two series reached more 100 million consumer views combined during 2016 across Disney XD’s linear, digital, social and global platforms. Both shows air daily on Disney XD.

“Justice League: The New Frontier Commemorative Edition"

on Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray Steelbook, DVD

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment returns to the roots of DC’s greatest Super Heroes – and their unifying moment – with the celebratory release of Justice League: The New Frontier – Commemorative Edition on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack, Blu-ray™ Steelbook, and DVD on October 3, 2017.

For the new Commemorative Edition of the popular 2008 PG-13 animated film, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has produced an all-new featurette spotlighting the late Darwyn Cooke. The comic book author and artist’s seminal work, DC: The New Frontier, received an Eisner, Harvey and Shuster Award, and that six-issue comic book limited series served as the key source material from which the film was adapted. Justice League: The New Frontier – Commemorative Edition also features box art from Cooke’s canon of dazzling New Frontier imagery.

Justice League: The New Frontier – Commemorative Edition is the epic tale of the founding of the Justice League. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, the animated film is directed by David Bullock from a script by Stan Berkowitz. Sander Schwartz and Bruce Timm are Executive Producers.  Michael Goguen is Supervising Producer

The action-packed adventure features iconic DC Super Heroes Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman alongside Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter and The Flash as they band together to form the legendary team. Strangers at first, these very different heroes must overcome fear and suspicion to forge an alliance against a monster so formidable, even the mighty Superman cannot stop it alone. If they fail, the entire planet will be “cleansed” of humanity.

Justice League: The New Frontier – Commemorative Edition features an impressive roll call of celebrity voice performances, including Golden Globe Award winner Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks) as Superman, Jeremy Sisto (Law & Order) as Batman, Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess) as Wonder Woman, Emmy and Tony Award winner Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) as Barry Allen/The Flash, David Boreanaz (Bones) as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern, Brooke Shields (Suddenly Susan) as Carol Ferris, Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer) as Lois Lane, Phil Morris (Seinfeld) as King Faraday, and the late Miguel Ferrer (NCIS: Los Angeles) as Martian Manhunter. The cast also boasts the voices of Joe Mantegna (Criminal Minds), Keith David (Platoon), Vicki Lewis (NewsRadio) and the late John Heard (Big).

Justice League: The New Frontier – Commemorative Edition includes incredible bonus features on both the Blu-ray Combo Pack and the DVD:

·         Featurette – “Retro Action Cool: The Story of Darwyn Cooke” – A revealing look into the life and times of one of comics’ most brilliant figures, the late Darwyn Cooke.

·         Featurette – “Super Heroes United! The Complete Justice League History” – A comprehensive look at nearly a half-century of Justice League chronology from the inception in the comics to vivid animated renditions in the late 2000s. The story is told with a myriad of interviews tracing the early days of DC Super Hero team ups during the Golden Age to the Silver Age rendition where the established heroes emerged and beyond. Interviews include such notables as Dan DiDio, Michael Uslan, Paul Levitz, Mark Waid, Denny O'Neil, Stan Lee and Marv Wolfman.

·         Featurette – “The Legion of Doom: The Pathology of the DC Super Villain” – This 10-minute piece examines the early mythological archetypes of nemesis characters from a historical perspective and reveals how the tenants of this rich history were adapted and woven into the Justice League stories.

·         Featurette – “Comic Book Commentary: Homage to the New Frontier” – This mini-documentary is a nod to the fans of the New Frontier comics, further expanding the themes contained in the source material and how these elements were truncated or evolved for inclusion in the film. It features vivid imagery culled from the pages of DC: The New Frontier, mixed with the commentary of Darwyn Cooke. This featurette is a treat for both fans and scholars of the medium.

·         Sneak Peak: Gotham by Gaslight – A behind-the-scenes look at the next DC Universe Original Movie, inspired by the 1989 Elseworlds tale of Batman – at the turn of the 20th century – as first created as a graphic novel by Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola, with inks by P. Craig Russell.

·         Audio Commentary I/The Filmmakers – Featuring Justice League: The New Frontier filmmakers Bruce Timm, Michael Goguen, David Bullock, Stan Berkowitz, Andrea Romano and Gregory Noveck.

·         Audio Commentary II/Darwyn Cooke – Featuring award-winning writer/artist Darwyn Cooke

Justice League: The New Frontier – Commemorative Edition gives fans the opportunity to savor the unique genius of such a legendary comic talent as Darwyn Cooke in a thrilling, animated adaptation of a modern classic,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Vice President, Family & Animation Marketing. “The addition of an all-new Darwyn Cooke mini-documentary adds to the special celebration of his work. And his story serves as a keen reminder of the history of these cherished DC Super Heroes, in perfect timing with the theatrical release of the Justice League film.”

Lauren Montgomery, supervising producer, conceived and drew this lovely, whimsical illustration of “Korra’s Spirit Parade” (which Sylvia Filcak-Blackwolf, Frederic Stewart, and I helped to paint/color) for the limited edition art print on sale at the Nick booth for the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con. I have seen the print with my own eyes and it came out great. Very high quality, detailed, and vibrant (unlike the soundtrack printing… *sigh*). Lauren will be at tomorrow’s Nick booth signing, so if you can get your hands on one of these prints, bring it by to meet her and have her sign it!

Relatively new fan here who could use a little help with something: where exactly did the whole "Jackie-Lynn Thomas is secretly a mermaid" thing come from? I've tried rewatching her episodes, and I'm just not seeing it.

She’s often associated with the ocean, and so some fans have been suspecting her secretly being a mermaid -bringing more magic and weirdness in the show- since season 1. And her sea-like themes just keep piling up with the episodes:

Seashells everywhere

Different eyes compared to any other character (I think they’re just to make her look more sparkly and attractive, Oskar’s ones are way shinier and “unrealistic”)

Star telling her that she looks “like the ocean” in her dance dress, a dress that makes her look very mermaid like, in some scenes

These unused designs for her Halloween costume in Hungry Larry

Also, in the Star and Marco’s Guide to Mastering Every Dimension, Star says that Jackie’s blue streak is natural

but this might just be Star being starrish in her own way: young Jackie didn’t have it in Freeze Day

and show’s supervising producer/writer/storyboarder/director Dominic Bisignano, who also wrote the book, recently answered to an ask about it with

Either a joke, or he himself didn’t remember about Star’s comment.

Personally I think she’s just supposed to be a SoCal surfer like character, with a sea theme going on, and that there’s nothing magic or mystic with her -I don’t think it’d fit the theme of Marco’s life having been normal up until Star’s arrival.

Hi, Aaron! Love SVTFOE! Got into it after I saw Blood Moon Ball, an episode you and your co-director/supervising producer Dominic wrote and storyboarded, and the best Season 1 episode along with Storm the Castle. I wanna ask: What was your personal favorite moment that you wrote/boarded for the series?

Thanks for the kind words! I remember when Dominic and I were writing and storyboarding Blood Moon Ball. It was such a daunting task to try to accurately depicted the sort of emotions that you have to deal with, often for the first time, during your early teenage years. With that said I think that the argument on the balcony at the end of blood moon ball was probably the most challenging, but ultimately most satisfying scene to storyboard and write. But I’m a sap for those sort of scenes.

“BREAKING NEWS, DUDES. A brand-new 2D-animated series, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (working title), is launching in fall 2018.”

The current CG series might be ending after season 5, but Nickelodeon ain’t done with the franchise yet. And to you fans who wanted a new 2D series: Wish granted!

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will… well, rise in 2018. It’ll be co-executive produced by Andy Suriano (character designer of Samurai Jack) & Ant Ward (supervising producer of the current TMNT)

I was fortunate enough to attend both the opening and closing reception of the Star vs. The Forces of Evil art gallery and it was pretty amazing! I went as Marco Diaz (I think I pulled it off) and met some good folk, saw some great cosplays, and met part of the SVTFOE crew! these would include Daron Nefcy, the creator of the show, Adam McArthur, the voice of Marco Diaz, Brian Kim, the show’s composer, Dominic Bisignano and Aaron Hammersley, who are both supervising producers for the show, Becky Dreistadt, who does character designs, and Drake Brodahl, who does backgrounds for the show! Gotta give each person their credit for making such a wonderful show! And, if you are wondering, the S3 sneak peek for the new intro is amazing and I can’t wait for all of you to witness it when the show returns in the Summer! All in all, an amazing experience.

Platonic bff reader x Michael

You peered into the Achievement Hunter main room and looked around, letting out a slight sigh of relief at seeing that Michael was the only one there at the moment. You slipped in and quickly hurried over, pulling Jeremy’s chair close to Michael, and flopping yourself down into the seat. Michael, having sensed and seen you out of the corner of his eye, pulled off his headphones and looked away from his computer screen to blink slowly back at you.

“Can I help you, Y/N?”

Biting your lip, you wrung your hands in front of you, “I have a question I would normally ask Lindsay but she’s out with the wee babe today, so I need you to be surrogate Lindsay, okay?”

That was the wrist printed in the skin of your wrist. It has been there since you turned fourteen. You met many Trevors throughout your life but none of them had ‘(Y/N)’ printed on their wrists. You slowly stopped looking because of the constant disappointment. Why was your soulmate so hard to find? Did they even want to be found? What would happen if they died before meeting you? What if they didn’t want you? It was these questions that made you stop wanting to find this ‘Trevor’.

Fast-forwarding through a Digital Media degree and a move to Texas, you now have been working at Rooster Teeth for about a year now. You were currently the Head Editor of Achievement Hunter and have been for the past six months. Before then, you were just a regular editor. You’ve made lots of friends at Achievement Hunter, including Trevor Collins, the former Head Editor and now Supervising Producer of the division. He, along with Ryan, Jeremy, and Jack, became your protection squad when it came to fans and you couldn’t help but adore them even more.
