super excited for this book

ddadds hugging hcs

because i really love headcanons for the way people hug i think theyre super cute

Craig:
- The strongest, most secure hugs ever. Makes you feel like you could survive an apocalypse so long as brodad is hugging you
- Does that thing where he picks you up a little when he hugs you
- Somehow always smells fresh even though he’s working out always

Mat:
- Firm hugs that always last a little longer than normal but never in an awkward way
- Always smells like coffee and cafe pastries, even on his days off
- Keeps a hand on your shoulder for a bit even after the hug is over

Damien:
- Always asks if he can hug you before he hugs you, like a gentleman
- Very gentle hugs, like he’s worried he’ll break you if he hugs any harder
- You’d think his Victorian style clothes would be kinda stiff but theyre actually really soft to the touch

Joseph:
- Either smells like fresh cookies or grill smoke, no inbetween
- Gives you soft pats on the back while hugging
- Jesus himself has blessed this hug probably

Brian:
- A hug can’t get any softer than this
- Like Craig, probably picks you up when he hugs you. Good chance of spinning in a circle if he’s really happy
- The most classic Dad Smell™ of some combination of old spice, irish spring, and home depot

Robert:
- Usually very short, but fulfilling hugs
- Does that thing where he goes for a handshake and then pulls you into a quick hug
- Gives you a really solid Two (2) pats on the back

Hugo:
- Usually very gentle hugs, unless he’s super excited about something then he’ll just pick you up
- Smells like old books all the time
- The kind of guy that’ll hug you every time he sees you once youre close enough

If you have a twitter, go retweet @DisneyHyperion and let ‘em know!

This is a complete no-brainer.  I am SUPER EXCITED for the OTGW book.  And really, all of these are shows that are deserving of art books.  But so is Gravity Falls, which like OTGW, is one of the most gorgeous animated shows I’ve ever seen, period.

Alexis’s VA’s hilarious comment

Nakata Jouji, Alexis’s VA in the Book of the Atlantic movie, recently commented on Lizzie’s poster that reads “I’m fine with not being cute, as long as it means that I can protect you!!”:

There’s no way that the daughter of Tanaka Atsuko [*Frances’ VA] and me, voiced by Yukari Tamura [*Lizzie’s VA], is weak.”

And Yana replied to him:

“That’s so convincing…! Thank you!!  -Toboso”

Fun fact:

Alexis’s VA, Nakata Jouji, is known for his role as Alucard (a powerful badass vampire) in the anime series “HELLSING”.

“The son (voiced by Mr. Seiichirou Yamashita) and the daughter (voiced by Ms. Yukari Tamura) who were born to the married couple of father (voiced by Mr. Jouji Nakata) and mother (voiced by Ms. Atsuko Tanaka).. you can tell just by their voices that they’re undoubtedly strong. It’s so convincing. I’m so happy. Thank you so much, Aniplex [for casting them]🙏” - Toboso

See? I told you they are the best and the strongest cast!! (≧▽≦)

Edit: Just in case…. “CV” in this context means “character voice”, not “curriculum vitae” xD

My Introduction into the LGBTA+ Community

This came to me while in the shower. I nearly forgot about it but now I can’t forget it and I think it’s important.

Back when I was a small eighth grader, my Christian school asked me to go to a local fair and hold a book reading for kids. I was super excited and said yes right away. I got there, read a book or two, then I had a half hour break. I walked around and saw a sign that said ‘ART!!! X% OF PROCEEDS GO TO CHARITIES TO HELP LGBTA+ MINORS!!“. I don’t remember the exact percentage, but I remember thinking "Art??? I love art!!”

I walked over to the tent where there were two people. One girl with dark purple hair, and another 'girl’ (in quotes for a reason) who had a shaved head. They were in highschool and I was terrified… They were the big kids at a PUBLIC SCHOOL!!! I asked them what lgbta+ meant because I wanted to know where my money was going.

They said “Lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transexuals, ace/aro, and others!” And I’m like??? There’s more than just gay??

They laughed and said yes, asked me my orientation (straight then) and introduced themselves. (I’ll use their traits as names) Purple was a girl, and pansexual, which she explained meant she could love anyone no matter what. (Anyone? I asked. Yep! She said smiling. I just care if you’re kind). She has a girlfriend who was a lesbian.

Artist (the persons who art was being sold) was nonbinary and bisexual. They explained what they meant, and how bi was different from pan. But I was confused about nombinary. I told them I didn’t understand how you could be nothing! They smiled softly and told me this.

“It’s okay if you don’t understand! It can be confusing. All the matters is that you’ll treat me like everyone else.”

We talked until I had to go back, but on all my breaks I went back to them. I told them how my mom was at my stand and wouldn’t be happy if she knew I was there. They told me about highschool and art and lgbta+. I ended up buying two pieces from her. One I’m not a huge fan of bc I grew out of the style but the other I still have hanging up after almost five years.

At some point, I had to leave. They hugged me, wished me luck in life, and we parted ways.

I was packing up when I saw a huge floppy sunhat come into my tent. It was Purple and Artist, who got a huge hat so my mom wouldn’t see their “boy hair cut”. They said hello, pretended not to know me, but slipped me a slip of paper, smiled, and walked away. I opened it to see a drawing of a hotdog Artist drew me (I let calling every dog a hot dog because it was very hot outside). On the bottom was a small heart.

This is so important to me. Those people could’ve easily brushed me off as just a kid who is sheltered and bigoted. But they didn’t. They took me in for the day and (most likely painfully for them) explained everything and answered all my questions. I don’t think I’d be on terms with my sexuality without them.

Long story short, always be nice. Have patience, be kind, and never get short with kids, teens, or even adults who just want to learn or are under informed. Or even if they don’t understand some things, like how I was at first with nonbinary.

Always be patient, always be kind. Anything you say or do can impact someone forever.

dlightwoodbane  asked:

Hi Cassie! I really love your books and I’m super exciting for LoS's release (one week!!!). I can't wait to see the Lightwood-Bane family. However I’m writing you because I’ve a question: I’d like to know why Magnus’s title is “High Warlock of Brooklyn “. Should not be “of New York”? Otherwise I’m asking if there was a Warlock for each New York’s boroughs. The question is born thinking about Ragnor, who was the High Warlock of London and Malcom, who was the High Warlock of LA. Thank you!

The title of High Warlock is something that warlocks determine among themselves. Since there aren’t very many of them, sometimes a warlock will start using the title “High Warlock” because they are the only warlock around. In other cases, a group of warlocks in a given area will choose one of their number for the title; usually the one who is most powerful, or most open to conducting business with Shadowhunters and other Downworlders. There are many cities and towns that have no warlocks, and thus, no High Warlock. There are also cities that have warlocks but no High Warlock, since many warlocks like to lie low and are not interested in the title.

Warlocks have occasionally fought over the title, but they are usually able to come to an understanding civilly.

For Magnus’s part, he likes Brooklyn, and keeps very busy with the affairs he conducts there. After living in the city for awhile, he decided that if he was going to be a High Warlock, a single borough was a more manageable area than all five. : ) Also I thought it was hilarious, but that’s me…

At this point, the other boroughs have warlocks who live in or frequent them, but none have been interested in stepping into the role of High Warlock. (Maybe this has to do with the New York state of mind—they all just want to mind their own business.)

Can I be super negative for a second?

I am super disappointed that the ACOTAR series is being made into movies. I don’t think they will work as films at all.

Sorry if people are super excited for them.

The way that my brain reads books is completely in movie form (like most people probably). I provide camera angles, position the characters like I’m setting a scene, and when I think back on a book I revise or consolidate to what would fit best in movie form. (Do people do that?? idk. Like when I heard HP7 and Mockingjay were being split, I automatically knew where they would put the break and people thought I was crazy, but I digress)

When I heard that TOG was being made a show I was thrilled because you CANNOT put those books in movies. It’s too much material, especially later on in the series obviously. But with TOG, it is made for the big screen (or you know, little screen, whatever). Set pieces, grand finales, characters overlapping and puzzle pieces fitting together, action packed, etc

But that’s not how acotar is at all. If anything, it COULD work as a series as well, but with difficulty.

You could argue that Thorns and Roses could be made into a movie but I think it would be hard to make it have the right flow. Not to mention, Sarah throws a wrench in the narrative when Feyre goes UtM, it’s a complete mood shift, and UtM would eat considerable screen time. So everything else would be abbreviated- but you know, it’s Tamlin so that’s not too bad.

Then acomaf happens. You guys, acomaf will never work on a big screen. No way, no how.

1. It’s LONG. It is the slow burn of all slow burns. Movies don’t deal in slow.   Consolidating that slow burn into a movie would cut out INSANE amounts of character development.  As a reader, you love each of those moments between Feyre and Rhys, and how it helps Feyre SLOWLY heal and trust him and love him. And there are a million of those little moments. And with the highly sensitive nature of her healing from abuse, good luck putting all that in 2.5 hours without botching it, rushing it, or cutting out all but 5 scenes which will just make me so sad.

2. It’s introspective. There are a whole lot of things that happen in this book that don’t play out in the open. Not to mention that this is not an Action book like TOG, it’s a Feelings book. There’s a lot of sensing and thinking and internal monologues and reading others’ thoughts. When you are reading acomaf and every other conversation is happening internally down the bond, it makes sense. You know what you get when you put that on screen? annoying voice overs and characters staring at each other for an uncomfortable amount of time. There is absolutely no time for all that shit- UNLESS…

3. When you think about it, the whole book is already set up EPISODICALLY. Look, I’ll even give some of these episodes titles:

The Wedding. The Night Court. Locked In. The City of Starlight. The Bone Carver. The Court of Nightmares. Summer. Starfall.  Do you see where I am going with this? Call me, Netflix.

Basically I have a vision for how this is going to go and I don’t think a movie could ever do it justice and will probably make everything seem really contrived and rushed. Lastly, and just because I’ve been burned too many times by the film industry. I’ll give my predictions:

“Are you #teamtamlin or #teamrhysand? Retweet your favorite acotar man!”

White Rhysand. That’s all.

Side characters with any depth? What’s that?

Subtlety and and character-led story telling? What’s that?

  • Omen: But sir... I read all about you. All about the both of you. You took Valkyrie on as a partner when she was twelve. I'm fourteen.
  • Skulduggery: This is true. But, as it was pointed out to me only an hour ago, I am a very irresponsible person. I'm trying to change that, truly I am, so unfortunately I am not taking on any more partners. Ever.
  • Omen: Then I'll... I'll be your protege.
  • Skulduggery: I'm not taking on proteges, either.
  • Omen: (To Valkyrie) Could I be your protege?
  • Valkyrie: What? No. I don't have proteges. I'm too young to have proteges. I'm only twenty-four, for God's sake. I barely know what a protege is. I'm still the kid here. I'm still the... Skulduggery, tell him. I'm the young one in this whole dynamic.
  • Skulduggery: You definitely are the young one. Though technically he is younger.
  • Valkyrie: But he's not a protege! Or a partner! He's a schoolboy! I'm the partner, I'm the young partner. I still have learning to do. I'm still... (glares at Omen) I'm the young one here.
  • Omen: OK. Sorry.
  • Skulduggery: I feel like we've strayed a little off topic.

anonymous asked:

What are some of your favorite books currently?

Okay, so this question requires a bit of explanation of my reading habits. There are four types of books that I read: Dime Store Novels, of Literary Merit, Smart Books, and Reference Books.

Dime store novels: Books that are written to tell a story and just to tell a story. They’re not out to challenge the genre or blow our minds with inventive structure. Currently on my nightstand:

  • Patricia Briggs (Alpha and Omega series): Actually anything by Patricia Briggs. I love her. Everything she’s written is the sort of strong, female characters that I craved growing up.
  • Tamora Pierce (ALL): Same as above, she’s got wonderfully strong female characters and I love her.
  • Victoria Laurie (Ghost Hunter series): Simple, straight-forward series with exciting characters and premise! I read her books super fast, I’d say it takes me about two, three hours to read one of hers.
  • Mira Grant (Parasitology): She’s always so wonderful about building worlds through character/character relationships. Fun read, edge of the seat in a lot of ways, can’t wait to get to book two! Probably takes me 4-8 hours to read one book.

Of Literary Merit: Books that do defy genre, blow our minds, are probably going to win a handful of awards. Currently on my nightstand:

  • George Saunders (10th of December): One of my FAVE short story collections, it won something like…three? awards including like best short story collection of the year.
  • Celeste Ng (Everything I Never Told You): I actually don’t know if this has won an award but it was AMAZING NO SPOILERS GO READ IT
  • Flannery O’Connor (Wise Blood): I’m actually just starting this! I’ll keep you posted~
  • Jennifer Egan (A visit from the goon squad): One of my all time FAVES, got me into intertwining narrative, I love it.

Smart Books: Books that make me look very intelligent (or pretentious) when I go home for the holidays. They tend to be fairly controversial in subject matter and/or wildly misunderstood to be smart in the first place. Most of them I even like which is a bonus! My go to books:

  • Candide by Voltaire: Great book, hilarious and people think it’s not filled with A plus satire because Voltaire sounds very fancy.
  • The Dubliners by James Joyce: Short story collection of classic narrative, big themes of imminent death, man vs. nature, etc.
  • The Lucifer Effect by Philip Zimbardo: About the Stanford Prison experiment. It’s okay, I don’t necessarily agree with the stance Dr. Zimbardo takes on his experiment/actions, but he doesn’t expect you too, I don’t think.

Reference Books: Books that I read over and over again because I WANT TO WRITE LIKE THAT:

  • American Gods by Neil Gaiman: What the fuck. What the fuck. The detail?????? The characters???? Shadow???? What the fuck.
  • Two or Three Things I Know for Sure by Dorothy Allison - I cry every time I read this book. It’s so raw and honest, it takes my breath away. Every time.
  • The Earth and Everything Underneath by K.M Ferebee: So gorgous, the imagery is incredible and it’s about witches. It’s actually a short story that you can read here (X) and I really recommend you check out Shimmer in general because it’s a great magazine.

As always, there’s a ton more that I enjoy, but these are in my rotation right now! Ask me again in a month and they’ll be all different.

Read in 2016 » Under the Painted Sky by Stacey Lee

I smooth a spot on Paloma’s mane, sobered by her words. Father always made me feel proud to be Chinese, that ancient race who roamed among dragons, who exploded gunpowder into the air to make flowers of fire. We might be a rare breed in this country, but I never wished to be white. Then again, I was also never a slave.

Even if Mirceo can accept Caspion as his fated mate, the sensual vampire still must convince the stubborn demon that their bond is forever. And any royal Dacian union must receive the blessing of King Lothaire, an unpredictable and savage killer… .

Excerpt from the synopsis for the next Immortals After Dark book, and really?  If Mirceo doesn’t know that all he has to do is get Ellie to sweet talk Lothaire, then he really hasn’t been paying close enough attention.  I’m pretty sure Lothaire should be the least of their issues.
