super excited for this book

Support the idea of a Gravity Falls Art Book!

See Alex Hirsch’s tweet above!  Link here:

If you have a twitter, go retweet @DisneyHyperion and let ‘em know!

This is a complete no-brainer.  I am SUPER EXCITED for the OTGW book.  And really, all of these are shows that are deserving of art books.  But so is Gravity Falls, which like OTGW, is one of the most gorgeous animated shows I’ve ever seen, period.

Alexis’s VA’s hilarious comment

Nakata Jouji, Alexis’s VA in the Book of the Atlantic movie, recently commented on Lizzie’s poster that reads “I’m fine with not being cute, as long as it means that I can protect you!!”:

There’s no way that the daughter of Tanaka Atsuko [*Frances’ VA] and me, voiced by Yukari Tamura [*Lizzie’s VA], is weak.”

And Yana replied to him:

“That’s so convincing…! Thank you!!  -Toboso”

Fun fact:

Alexis’s VA, Nakata Jouji, is known for his role as Alucard (a powerful badass vampire) in the anime series “HELLSING”.

They are both actually very famous voice actors in Japan and that’s why the tweet got 33K likes and 29K reblogs and also why Yana was super excited when the Midfords’ cast was announced:

“The son (voiced by Mr. Seiichirou Yamashita) and the daughter (voiced by Ms. Yukari Tamura) who were born to the married couple of father (voiced by Mr. Jouji Nakata) and mother (voiced by Ms. Atsuko Tanaka).. you can tell just by their voices that they’re undoubtedly strong. It’s so convincing. I’m so happy. Thank you so much, Aniplex [for casting them]🙏” - Toboso

See? I told you they are the best and the strongest cast!! (≧▽≦)

Edit: Just in case…. “CV” in this context means “character voice”, not “curriculum vitae” xD

Can I be super negative for a second?

I am super disappointed that the ACOTAR series is being made into movies. I don’t think they will work as films at all.

Sorry if people are super excited for them.

The way that my brain reads books is completely in movie form (like most people probably). I provide camera angles, position the characters like I’m setting a scene, and when I think back on a book I revise or consolidate to what would fit best in movie form. (Do people do that?? idk. Like when I heard HP7 and Mockingjay were being split, I automatically knew where they would put the break and people thought I was crazy, but I digress)

When I heard that TOG was being made a show I was thrilled because you CANNOT put those books in movies. It’s too much material, especially later on in the series obviously. But with TOG, it is made for the big screen (or you know, little screen, whatever). Set pieces, grand finales, characters overlapping and puzzle pieces fitting together, action packed, etc

But that’s not how acotar is at all. If anything, it COULD work as a series as well, but with difficulty.

You could argue that Thorns and Roses could be made into a movie but I think it would be hard to make it have the right flow. Not to mention, Sarah throws a wrench in the narrative when Feyre goes UtM, it’s a complete mood shift, and UtM would eat considerable screen time. So everything else would be abbreviated- but you know, it’s Tamlin so that’s not too bad.

Then acomaf happens. You guys, acomaf will never work on a big screen. No way, no how.

1. It’s LONG. It is the slow burn of all slow burns. Movies don’t deal in slow.   Consolidating that slow burn into a movie would cut out INSANE amounts of character development.  As a reader, you love each of those moments between Feyre and Rhys, and how it helps Feyre SLOWLY heal and trust him and love him. And there are a million of those little moments. And with the highly sensitive nature of her healing from abuse, good luck putting all that in 2.5 hours without botching it, rushing it, or cutting out all but 5 scenes which will just make me so sad.

2. It’s introspective. There are a whole lot of things that happen in this book that don’t play out in the open. Not to mention that this is not an Action book like TOG, it’s a Feelings book. There’s a lot of sensing and thinking and internal monologues and reading others’ thoughts. When you are reading acomaf and every other conversation is happening internally down the bond, it makes sense. You know what you get when you put that on screen? annoying voice overs and characters staring at each other for an uncomfortable amount of time. There is absolutely no time for all that shit- UNLESS…

3. When you think about it, the whole book is already set up EPISODICALLY. Look, I’ll even give some of these episodes titles:

The Wedding. The Night Court. Locked In. The City of Starlight. The Bone Carver. The Court of Nightmares. Summer. Starfall.  Do you see where I am going with this? Call me, Netflix.

Basically I have a vision for how this is going to go and I don’t think a movie could ever do it justice and will probably make everything seem really contrived and rushed. Lastly, and just because I’ve been burned too many times by the film industry. I’ll give my predictions:

“Are you #teamtamlin or #teamrhysand? Retweet your favorite acotar man!”

White Rhysand. That’s all.

Side characters with any depth? What’s that?

Subtlety and and character-led story telling? What’s that?

anonymous asked:

What are some of your favorite books currently?

Okay, so this question requires a bit of explanation of my reading habits. There are four types of books that I read: Dime Store Novels, of Literary Merit, Smart Books, and Reference Books.

Dime store novels: Books that are written to tell a story and just to tell a story. They’re not out to challenge the genre or blow our minds with inventive structure. Currently on my nightstand:

  • Patricia Briggs (Alpha and Omega series): Actually anything by Patricia Briggs. I love her. Everything she’s written is the sort of strong, female characters that I craved growing up.
  • Tamora Pierce (ALL): Same as above, she’s got wonderfully strong female characters and I love her.
  • Victoria Laurie (Ghost Hunter series): Simple, straight-forward series with exciting characters and premise! I read her books super fast, I’d say it takes me about two, three hours to read one of hers.
  • Mira Grant (Parasitology): She’s always so wonderful about building worlds through character/character relationships. Fun read, edge of the seat in a lot of ways, can’t wait to get to book two! Probably takes me 4-8 hours to read one book.

Of Literary Merit: Books that do defy genre, blow our minds, are probably going to win a handful of awards. Currently on my nightstand:

  • George Saunders (10th of December): One of my FAVE short story collections, it won something like…three? awards including like best short story collection of the year.
  • Celeste Ng (Everything I Never Told You): I actually don’t know if this has won an award but it was AMAZING NO SPOILERS GO READ IT
  • Flannery O’Connor (Wise Blood): I’m actually just starting this! I’ll keep you posted~
  • Jennifer Egan (A visit from the goon squad): One of my all time FAVES, got me into intertwining narrative, I love it.

Smart Books: Books that make me look very intelligent (or pretentious) when I go home for the holidays. They tend to be fairly controversial in subject matter and/or wildly misunderstood to be smart in the first place. Most of them I even like which is a bonus! My go to books:

  • Candide by Voltaire: Great book, hilarious and people think it’s not filled with A plus satire because Voltaire sounds very fancy.
  • The Dubliners by James Joyce: Short story collection of classic narrative, big themes of imminent death, man vs. nature, etc.
  • The Lucifer Effect by Philip Zimbardo: About the Stanford Prison experiment. It’s okay, I don’t necessarily agree with the stance Dr. Zimbardo takes on his experiment/actions, but he doesn’t expect you too, I don’t think.

Reference Books: Books that I read over and over again because I WANT TO WRITE LIKE THAT:

  • American Gods by Neil Gaiman: What the fuck. What the fuck. The detail?????? The characters???? Shadow???? What the fuck.
  • Two or Three Things I Know for Sure by Dorothy Allison - I cry every time I read this book. It’s so raw and honest, it takes my breath away. Every time.
  • The Earth and Everything Underneath by K.M Ferebee: So gorgous, the imagery is incredible and it’s about witches. It’s actually a short story that you can read here (X) and I really recommend you check out Shimmer in general because it’s a great magazine.

As always, there’s a ton more that I enjoy, but these are in my rotation right now! Ask me again in a month and they’ll be all different.

Saw this cover about a month ago, animated it the same day, waited until the creative team was announced and if they keep up the spirit of her character from Young Avengers, this is gonna be a wonderful book. Super excited!

I smooth a spot on Paloma’s mane, sobered by her words. Father always made me feel proud to be Chinese, that ancient race who roamed among dragons, who exploded gunpowder into the air to make flowers of fire. We might be a rare breed in this country, but I never wished to be white. Then again, I was also never a slave.

10th Anniversary Edition Announced!

For those of you who have been following Patrick Rothfuss for a while, you are aware that he is working diligently on Doors of Stone, but wants the story to be the absolute best it can be. In the meantime, Rothfuss announced on his Twitch stream that The Name of the Wind turns 10 years old this year. In celebration, he has decided to release a 10th Anniversary Edition for his readers!

He says this edition will feature:

◙ Minor changes to the text, and improving some unfavorable language used. Basically, he will go through and polish up the writing.

◙ Appendices about the character pronunciation, the calendar, and the currency systems within the novels. A few of these sections will have an author’s note to accompany them.

◙ A new and improved map of Temerant (The world in which the events of The Kingkiller Chronicles takes place).

◙ 20 or more illustrations depicting aspects of the story. Patrick Rothfuss is personally working with the creators.

◙ and finally, A NEW COVER!

A release date has not been released at this point. More updates about the new edition will be posted when discovered.

I for one am super excited about this news. Patrick Rothfuss knows that we are eagerly awaiting Book 3, but I respect him for waiting to publish something he is proud of. In the meantime, we will get a brand new edition of The Name of the Wind with more information to hold us over.

When I heard the news I screamed so loud! I cannot wait to get my hands on a beautiful copy of my favorite book. Take my money, Pat!

Feel free to reach out to me if you want to chat about the series. I’m always up for it. So much to discuss. :)

-Blair (aka TheWaystoneInn)

As a kid with super dark brown, incredibly curly/bushy hair, I was excited by the books’ description of Hermione’s looks. And super disappointed when I first saw that they cast a very clearly (to me) blonde girl as Hermione. (No shade on Emma Watson as an actress - the hair color thing was just incredibly disappointing for somebody who had been particularly excited over reading about a protagonist with bushy brown hair like me.)

I went back to work today because I’m feeling better.  The morning was fine, but by 1:30 I was dragging and my nose kept running and I was just done.  I left and picked up my library holds on my way home–they gave me that awesome sticker!  The pile on the left are all recent acquisitions for the to-read shelf.  I know.  I have a problem.  Oh, and I was super excited that my Book of the Month selection for March was one I was really wanting to read!  It was $6 cheaper than Amazon with BOTM! :)

This absolutely spectacular weather gave me a second wind!  And, even though I heard my husband in my head telling me, “You take longer to get better because you’re always overdoing it!” I still just HAD to get on my bike when I got home!  I only rode (mostly) smooth trails and only stayed out for an hour…I feel justified because I DIDN’T go to boot camp today.  I just came home and took Walter for a walk afterward instead.  It’s just too beautiful not to be outside!  I swear my bike was calling me!  Bonus: Look at this pretty flower I saw on my walk! :)  I LOVE spring!  Fabulous weather just makes me so happy–it’s an instant mood boost!

I always run into this super nice woman when I ride my bike in the afternoons.  She’s often out hiking around the same time, and she always comments how refreshing it is when she comes across me because she doesn’t feel scared that I’m going to run her down–I always slow down and give her plenty of time to get out of the way.  She’s older…although that doesn’t really matter, I know that when I’m hiking I also hate it when cyclists come flying by and don’t slow down AT ALL and just expect people to dive out of the way.  The trails are narrow, and it’s an off-leash park–you’ve gotta give people a second!  Today, she actually came across me when I’d stopped to get a drink at the start of a new trail.  We had a lovely chat about the bluebonnets that are starting to show up.  I have such a thing about “regular” people/places/etc. so I love that she felt comfortable enough to stop for a moment to chat!  If only I hadn’t been my typical dingbat self and actually asked her name.  Next time.  Either way, it brightened my day!  :)

anonymous asked:

Are your requests open? If so could you do one (with any of the boys I don't mind☺️) where Y/N somehow ends up falling into deep water and he has to save her? Maybe like he saw her fall in and jumps in after her or something? Thank you and also just wanna say that I love love love your writing!!💛

Yes, requests are always open! I know sometimes it takes me forever to get around to writing them, but I’m always accepting them <3

So I know it’s been a while since I’ve written anything, but school’s back in and I just don’t have much time :( plus, I’m working on a book! Which is super exciting but it also takes up a lot of time lol.

But here’s this one! I hope you love it xx

You feel the breeze coming off of the lake as it blows through your hair and sends a shiver through your body. You’re currently sitting on a dock in the middle of the night with your boyfriend, Calum, and his three friends Ashton, Michael, and Luke. Someone came up with the great idea of playing truth or dare out by the lake, and for whatever reason you went along with it.

A few weeks ago, Calum invited you to come on vacation with him and the boys to a private lake house that they’d rented, and you were beyond excited to join him. The only thing is… you can’t swim.

You’ve never told Calum about this because you’re a little embarrassed. At your age, it should be something that you know how to do, but you just never learned. And to be honest, lakes and oceans frighten you. You have no desire to find what’s lurking beneath the surface.

So far you’ve been able to stay on the shore and tan or only go in the really shallow water, but tomorrow Calum wants to go riding jet skis. You know he’s going to find out you can’t swim at some point. You’re just hoping he doesn’t laugh.

“Luke, truth or dare,” Michael says, bringing your attention back to the game.

So far, everyone has chosen truth, so there hasn’t been much action. But Luke is about to break that trend.

“Dare,” he says confidently.

Michael laughs and turns to Ashton as they try to decide what the dare should be. You’re not paying them much attention. Calum has his arm lazily draped around you and you’re starting to fall asleep. It’s been a long day, and it’s very late.

“I dare you to throw (Y/N) in the lake!” Michael suddenly says.

This immediately wakes you up and you open your mouth to protest. Luke only laughs at your hesitation though as he easily scoops you up from where you’re sitting. You struggle against his hold and try to make the words ‘I can’t swim’ come out of your mouth, but it’s like you’ve forgotten how to speak.

Next thing you know, you’re submerged in freezing water. All of the breath has been knocked out of your body and you go completely still. It takes you a few seconds to realize that you need to try and get back to the surface.

You start flailing your arms, hoping that the boys will realize soon that you don’t know how to swim. You break the surface just long enough to draw in a short breath, but you’re almost immediately dragged back under. You arms start to become numb, and you stop flailing them as hard as your body slowly loses energy.

You vaguely feel a strong arm wrap around your waist, and you can’t even muster the strength to hold on to whoever is trying to save you. You can feel another pair of hands grabbing onto your arm and pulling you out of the water and back onto the dock, but your eyes refuse to open. It’s like your mind is aware, but your body isn’t.

“(Y/N)!” You hear Calum’s voice yell frantically.

You feel his large, warm hands roaming your face and your body, probably searching for any sign of life.

“Wake up, baby!” He yells, getting more and more panicked with each word. “(Y/N), wake the hell up!”

The next thing you feel are his lips being pressed against your own. You think for a minute that he’s kissing you, but then you feel his hands on your chest and you realize he’s giving you CPR.

You beg your body to wake up and start working again so that you can tell Calum you’re okay, but it isn’t listening. His compressions get more frantic and sloppy, and you can hear him quietly sobbing.

In the background, you hear the other boys bustling around trying to get help, but your mind only focuses on Calum. Somehow you know that he’s the one keeping you here.

“C-Cal,” you whisper, coughing up water as your mouth finally gets the words out.

“Yes! I’m here! (Y/N), keep talking to me!”

You continue to cough, more water coming out of your lungs with each hack. You open your eyes and gently roll onto your side to let the water spill out of your mouth.

When you feel like you can breathe again, you turn back to face Calum. His large, brown eyes are worriedly staring down at you and you can see his freshly shed tears mixing in with the water that’s dripping down his face. He must’ve been the one who jumped in to save you.

“Holy fuck, (Y/N). You scared the hell out of me,” he breathes as he pulls your body against his and holds you tight. “Why didn’t you tell me you couldn’t swim?”

“I was embarrassed,” you say quietly. “If I thought I was going to be thrown into a lake, I might have mentioned it earlier.”

He laughs a little at your sass, but you can tell he’s still freaking out.

“I swear none of the boys are allowed to touch you, come near you, or even breathe in your direction for the rest of time,” he says seriously. “I almost lost you.”

“But you didn’t,” you remind him. “Thanks for rescuing me. You’re my hero, Calum Hood.”
