summer fling with a book

sun dried laughter and star caked smiles.

it was temporary.

palaces made of things like that always seem temporary.

you drink red wine for breakfast and walk away with galaxies on your neck at lunch and meet bittersweet lips for dinner. you never thought that you’d be leaving it behind with desperate hugs and an unexpected,“I’ll call you later”(s).
sun dried laughter that turned to sweet soft smiles at nothing but the faint freckles on your face that they called,“skin stars”,star caked smiles that melted into star entwined glimmers in their eyes when the only barrier between you two was the screen on your laptop and miles between you.

things only made for a small few.

Looking back on it now, I think he might have been the one that got away. With his shaggy blonde hair and the millions of freckles on his nose gifted to him from the island sun. He smelt like old beer and tasted like summer, so naturally, I fell in love with him.
—  it was never just a summer fling

We might have mentioned before how much we love science fiction, and the fact that this year’s summer reading theme is Science. Actually: Science!! It needs an exclamation point.

So, we’ve put together a really, really, incredibly huge booklist (working title? The Hive) for fans of science and fantasy fiction - and we added a little something extra, since, if you’re anything like us, when you love reading a genre, you love to watch films and shows, and play video games, in that same genre.

And if you’re playing Reading Bingo this summer with us for Summer Reading - or if you’re planning to take part in our Summer Fling (With a Book)! matchmaking program - then these books will definitely see you through summer and beyond!

Last week, it was our Summer Fling picks for adult fiction. Today, our Young Adult Fiction Summer Fling with a Book Hive Booklist! (We know: It needs a better title. =) )

And as you can see, it took just a teensy bit longer because our readers overwhelmingly preferred YA - here’s everything we recommended for romance, science fiction, fantasy, and mystery/thriller, plus a few bonus beach reads to boot. Thank you to everyone who submitted a personality quiz - we had a fantastic summer with our summer fling readers!

And in case you missed it, we got you covered for fall books, too!

We’re finishing out our final week of sci-fi and fantasy book recommendations during the Summer Fling With A Book at our library - you guys have really pushed us to stretch our brains and search for some great books!  We’ve included our last recommendations here (most of them), including a few books we picked up from YOU, and a few more we really wanted to recommend but never got the chance to. Maybe they’ll appeal to one of you?

(Zombie fans HAVE to read M.R. Carey's The Girl With All The Gifts, it will make you think twice about every zombie trope and hey, twist ending!)  And we apologize for adding City of Stairs by Robert Jackson Bennett, which isn’t out until September.  But keep that book on your TBR pile for the fall - amazing, amazing book.

At the end of the summer, we’ll post giant book lists of EVERYTHING we recommended, so be on the lookout for that!

Summer Fling with a Book may be over, but the book recommendations live on! We’ve rounded up all of the suggestions we made this summer, and in the grand tradition of…the last massive booklist we did, we turned it into a giant flow chart! Here is everything we recommended for readers who opted for adult fiction - our romance, science fiction, fantasy, mystery/thriller, and beach read picks!

The YA edition is up next, and we promise: that one is even bigger
