Nature Journal:  East Texas Wildflowers

Just wanted to share a few more wildflower photos from the past year, that occurred here in the Houston area.

1. Ladies-tresses Orchid (Spiranthes sp.), growing in a clearing in a pine forest, WD Jones State Forest, The Woodlands, TX

2. Green Milkweed aka Antelope Horn Milkweed (Asclepias viridis), the most commonly occurring species of milk weed on local prairies

3. Eastern Saltmarsh Aster aka Annual Aster (Aster subulatus) covers low lying prairie plants here in late summer and early autumn

4. Slender Gayfeather aka Sharp Blazingstar (Liatris acidota) growing on the edge of a prairie, with European Honeybee feeding

5. Swamp Sunflower aka Narrow-leafed Sunflower (Helianthus angustifolius) grew copiously in lots and prairie plots all over the area this year
