H.R. Giger and the Biomechanical Soul | Stuff to Blow Your Mind

We’ve all seen the surreal biomechanical art of the late H.R. Giger, but the artist’s mainstream success and the undying appeal of his ‘Alien’ sometimes prevent a full appreciation of his dark vision. In this episode of Stuff to Blow Your Mind, Robert and Christian explore the psychology and themes present in Giger’s art and chat with artist E.C. Steiner on Giger’s influences and more. April 25, 2017 at 12:00 AM 32.6 MB (Audio) [podcast] —- I dig this episode. It’s neat to hear about how Giger worked.

Some rly helpful tips to boost your Iman if you're struggling

hello my loves, so all of us struggle with our iman from time to time so here’s some cool tips to help improve your iman inshaAllah

●try to do dhikr like whenever you remember, it doesn’t matter if you say Alhumdulillah even just once, but whenever it you remember just do a little bit of dhikr, some of the most beloved words to Allah (SWT) are SubhanAllah, Alhumdulillah, Allahu Akbar and La ilaha illalah, Muhammadur rasulullah, so even if you say these words just once, say them

● SubhanAllahi wa bi hamdihi, SubhanAllahil adheem, is also a rly incredible and rewarding statement and Allah SWT loves it

●try to be more grateful, all of us are quick to complain but not many of us remember to thank Allah SWT, and even amidst all your troubles, Allah has still blessed you with a thousand good things, so even if you’re in a not-so-nice situation, look around and try to get yourself to pick out at least 5 things around you (in your immediate vicinity) that you are at least happy for

TRUST ME this works wonders, I promise, once you start thanking Allah SWT for random little things even though you might be having an otherwise tough time, Allah SWT blesses you SO much, I promise just try it a few times

Also I saw this quote it was something like “I don’t ask Allah ‘why me?’ when im struggling simply because I never ask Him 'why me?’ when He gives me something good”

●if you struggle with your prayers, start with this first, and if you feel lazy or you can feel shaitan try to convince you that you don’t have time, literally force yourself to write down how many minutes there are in a day and how many you’ve spent doing ________ activities and then compare it to the 5 minutes that Salah will take,

It might seem unnecessary but when you put time in perspective for yourself like that, it helps motivate you to pray

●start watching little clips on YouTube about Islam, those will REALLY help because we all need reminders, some great YouTube channels that have really great short clips are:

-The Daily Reminder
-TheProphetsPath
-theMercifulServant
-Bayyinah TV
-iLuvUAllah

● if you have anxiety especially or are just stressed about a situation, just keep repeating to yourself this, or a similar phrase: “Allah is with me and this will go EXACTLY according to His plan”

Even if at that moment youre having a hard time believing it, just keep repeating it to yourself as firmly as possible and I promise it will help, keep repeating reassuring and positive phrases to yourself

●try listening to the Quran more, if you just type in 'beautiful Quran recitation" on youtube there are SO many calming and incredibly soothing voices its amazing

●if you’re having trouble understanding some aspects of Islam or certain things/verses are questionable to you, someone I truly recommend is Nouman Ali Khan, he is truly a gem to our society, he’s SO funny and so easy going and he explains the Qur'an in such a beautiful and simple way that we didn’t realize before

And even controversial issues that at hard to understand, he has the simplest explanations for them (he basically analyzes all the tafsir of previous scholars and puts them all together in a rly simple way)

He honestly has amazing insight, and watch a couple of his videos about grammatical miracles in the Quran and you’ll actually really boost your iman that way
(He has a youtube series called 'Amazed by the Quran’ and its actually mind blowing stuff)

●Dua !! Even if youre having a hard time and nothing makes sense and you wanna give up, making dua is actually something really effective, Allah SWT loves it when we ask of Him and His Kingdom literally encompasses EVERYTHING so you can ask Him do anything and cry to Him about all your problems and He will listen and He will help

“Certainly the help of Allah is near” Quran 2:214

Just remember, if you actively put in effort, Allah SWT will always come through, just not necessarily in ways you expected, but always in ways that will lead to the best outcome in your favour

tropes that need to die: the junkrs/me being portrayed SOLELY as comic relief/idiots/the “crazy ones”

What I, an ENFP, want to say to the other MBTI types:

Keep in mind that all this is based on my personal experience with each type. The types I’ve left out are the types I don’t feel like I know well enough to talk about.

ISTP: We don’t have a lot in common, but the one thing we have makes up for all the things we don’t have: We’re ultimate free spirits. My wanting to explore new things Ne mixed with your wanting to try new things Se makes you great adventure companions. You could be a little bit less scared of deep displays of emotions and be a little less private and guarded - I’m not looking for a way to backstab you. You can be savage in your comments and you don’t wanna sit down and have a nice talk around a table. You always gotta do something. But I don’t mind, it makes hanging out with you more exciting.

ISTJ: Loosen up a bit. I get that you have to study for that test, but I don’t think you’re gonna drop out of your education if you attend that one movie night with the girls. Thank you for always knowing where everything is and all the exam dates.

ISFJ: I don’t know why, maybe it’s your very calm body language and lack of sudden, abrupt movements, but you have a really calm vibe. Sometimes it is a melancholical one. You’re often very emotionally deep. You are shy. Yes, I know you don’t like planes that are planned one hour before they happen, therefore I try to plan early with you guys. I feel like we complement each other well. You’re very warm and helpful, I’m very fond of you ISFJs.

INTP: A little consideration towards others emotions won’t hurt. You don’t have to win every argument. Other than that you’re perfect partners in crime and always bring out the worst in me. You’ve got so much potential, do you know that? Sometimes you’re lazy and don’t bother to study, but the times you do bother, your brain can be like a sponge. You can also be very creative, you always seem to either be drawing or listening to a lot of music and so on. Also your fangirling shines through from time to time. Somehow every INTP I’ve met is into gay porn, preferably anime style. Dunno what’s up with that.

INTJ: You can make me feel so stupid. I’m not stupid, I’m just not as consisent as you are. Ask me about non-rocket-science stuff and I’ll blow your mind with all the things I know. I know you’ve got tert Fi, but sometimes the tert Fi feels almost inferior. You can appear a bit private like the ISTPs. Luckily I know how to open you up, unlike ISTPs who doesn’t seem to open up at all. You observe a lot, whenever we play games based on how well you know the other people in the room, you’re one of the winners.

INFP: Being around you makes me understand what other people mean when they say I can be a bit too sensitive. I think you’re the only people who are more sensitive than I am. This is not criticism. I like how emotional you are, how creative and full of dreams you are. You make me feel really understood, we are so similar. Yes, I totally wanna talk about emotions and common favourite books for hours and hours. You’re so good at giving words of confirmation. You make me feel very appreciated, and I appreciate you guys too. Sometimes I think you can be a bit too judgy towards people, but since I like you, I won’t tell unless you are being unreasonable.

INFJ: Just like the INFP you are good at fangirling and I don’t mind talking fandoms all day. Keep recommending good books and games please, I’m running out of them. I know it’s a classical stereotype, but this might be most accurate stereotype of them all: Your ability to read other people like open books have and will never stop making me amazed at you guys. Drama always seem to be following you, and sometimes you’re creating it (sorry).

ESTJ: What your 16personalities profile says about you is very accurate, but reading it makes me sad because it only describes you as hard working people. Don’t get me wrong, you’re very hard working. I don’t know how you manage to keep on track with everything, do all those things and never get tired. But your profile mentions nothing of how much fun you can be. I have some ESTJ friends, but I’ve also got an ESTJ mom. As the daughter of an ESTJ I would say that you could try and give a bit more affirmative feedback. Your kid sees all the things you do for them, so they will grow up knowing that you love them. But letting them know that you’re proud of them and telling them that they are doing ok in life would be nice, especially if you’ve got a Feeler kid.

ENTP: All the messages I get from you are memes. No kidding, it’s either a meme or “yo, wanna hang out?” I like hanging with you and you are the most fun type when drunk. I enjoy your Ne. You can be spontaneous, we always end up on some kind of adventure. Even if we’re doing something normal, like bathing in the ocean or grilling in your back yard, you make it feel like an adventure.

zarfer replied to your post “marshalllieksstuff replied to your post: [[MO…”

the bounty hunters are only that, they surrender and drop the chase, the Daughter’s of aku said to him we will not stop until your death, they are not in it for money, Jack’s death is all they wanted, and they sure as hell wouldn’t stop at all, thats why Jack makes the comparison to programed robots “i had never fought someone programed with akus lies like that, only robots” and then he wonder if is posible for ashi at all to believe him

Okay yeah they told him they wouldn’t stop until he died but here’s the thing that might blow your mind: People say stuff all the time that isn’t true.

Even if they  really mean it, it might not be true. Just about every villain has talked in the ballpark of the same level of smack and  many ended up giving up.

Plus he didn’t even make an attempt at disarming and subduing them. just straight up kills them.

and didn’t have any trouble doing it the whole time. He wasn’t in that much danger.

I HAVE BEEN SCREAMING OVER THIS VIDEO FOR LIKE A WEEK. EVERY SINGLE DOLL COLLECTOR NEEDS TO WATCH THIS, regardless of your fandom. especially if you’re having trouble displaying/storing all your dolls/doll stuff.

it will change your life and blow your mind. if you have never watched this brilliant mom & daughter team’s youtube channel, this is a good place to start. experience their utterly amazing talent and fantastically excellent ideas!

i honestly can’t even put into words how i feel about this video, ive been sending the link to everyone on facebook!

I got an ask yesterday that said something like “people are mean to you and send you mean asks because they follow you for comedy and not other stuff” and that just blows my mind. that’s literally saying “people come to your personal blog and expect you to post what they want to see, and when you don’t they’re going to be mean to you” like… okay. just unfollow me if you came here expecting to be catered to. this is my blog, not yours.

diggsdaveed  asked:

Man, do you have a good voice. Like, for real, man. You have the kind of voice that we all wish we had, you know? Which is all the more reason why I need you in Hamilton again. Just so I can see you in the flesh, totally killing it up on stage with that voice. And, like, rapping and all that awesome stuff you do. Blows my mind.

I am also seriously envious of your beard. I wish I could grow a beard like that.
