Impulse buy at the art museum.

I know over the holidays I said I would send out some postcards with doodles, but things got unexpectedly shitty for my family at the time and I just didn’t have the energy.

But I’ve been collecting a lot of postcards since then, and planning on trying to do one a day as a little creative boost. So for the people who gave me their address, expect some water color cards in the mail soon!

Unspoken

Another watercolor piece from December last year. The original was supposed to arrive with the snail mail at @ameb-stuff‘s place but it appears to have gotten lost forever. Which is a little sad. At least I’ve still got photos of it, and now you can see it here! Holding thumbs and fingers crossed that the painting will still somehow show up!

If y’all haven’t already, you should all check out Ameb’s wonderful undertale comic UNSPKN. Just be prepared for feels.

Happy New Year, a month late, and Happy Year of the Rooster!

Hi beans~ I love your Sun and Moon AU (I personally call it "Celestial" AU in my tags ;D it's easier for me to find). I was just thinking that I'd totally be down with charms of your AU, if you ever thought about doing something that in the future. That'd totally be my jam. :3

OMG for real???!! i would actually love to do some!! but i just don’t know how hahahaha and i’m also very terrified of shipping things oh gosh i’m going to look into that during break or when i just have a lot of free time on my hands hahaha

Imagine a rebelcap 10 Things I Hate About You AU. Just imagine.

i like the way you think:

  • jyn and bodhi live with their adopted parents, baze and chirrut. their dads are really protective. like, don’t want either of them dating until age 35, protective.
  • jyn has absolutely no problem with this. high school boys are, in her opinion, garbage.
  • bodhi has a serious problem with this. people are cute, he’s young, and he wants to have some fun, dammit!
  • enter: luke skywalker and han solo. they’re transfer students. luke’s sister becomes fast friends with jyn, and luke finds himself rather interested in bodhi.
  • “naw, kid,” han says, “leia told me his dads won’t let him date until he’s practically collecting retirement.”
  • “actually,” leia says, coming up behind them, “jyn told me there’s a longstanding offer on the table that bodhi can date when she does.”
  • “but jyn isn’t interested,” leia continues.
  • she says sorry, smacks han on the ass, and goes to meet jyn for lunch.
  • now luke has an idea: all they need to do is find someone to take jyn out on a date!
  • “i don’t know if you know this, but i’ve heard most dudes around here are kind of terrified of jyn erso,” han tells him.
  • a week later, after dozens of failed attempts at getting jyn a date, kay tuesso confirms this assumption during computer science. “there’s a 3.7% chance of you finding someone brave enough to take jyn out.”
  • (han wants to shove him in a locker a little)
  • “what about that guy you’re always hanging around?” luke asks. “that senior from…venezuela?”
  • “mexico,” kay corrects. “and cassian doesn’t need to get involved in a relationship right now.”
  • “it doesn’t have to be a relationship,” han says. “it’s one date.”
  • “just let me talk to him!” luke’s nearly bouncing in his chair because they might just have a shot now.
  • they find cassian in the library after class one day working as a spanish tutor. when luke asks him to take out jyn erso, cassian smiles and says, “you’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”
  • luke literally begs, then offers up a hundred bucks + gas money. han wants to shove him in a locker now.
  • finally, cassian agrees.
  • it takes him three times to successfully ask jyn out, culminating in a ridiculous musical number on the football field. she finally says yes and they see some horror movie at a drive in.
  • they just kind of…keep going out. they even double with luke and bodhi (to baze’s utter dismay).
  • cassian realizes he really, really likes jyn and asks her to prom. the night goes amazingly, until he lets the original deal slip…
I got a letter tonight from a teen inmate that made me cry.

I usually don’t share this type of stuff, but I thought I’d share this today because it gave me a lot of perspective.  If this person (a juvenile sentenced as an adult) can be happy, why can’t we?  He’s still under 21.  When I met him, he was suicidal.  Just a kid in an adult prison with no will to go forward.
Now he is flourishing and I’m so proud of who he’s become.
So I will share some snippets of the letter.  I don’t use names, so I’ve just put blanks where names are.  The two names are my own and his girlfriends.  I just want you guys to know that writing just one person when they need someone in their lives can make the biggest difference.  So if you feel compelled to write someone you feel needs a friend, don’t hesitate.  Throw caution to the wind.  Just sit down, write your letter, and mail it out.  You might really change the persons life forever.  They might change your life forever.  You never know.

Hey ____,

Hopefully you don’t get this too late.  Prepare yourself for a super lame sappy ass letter.  It’s the best present I can give you, sorry.
Anyway, I can’t even begin to express how much you’ve done for me in the 3 years that I’ve known you.  You’ve basically held my hand & helped me through my lowest, darkest points in life & I assure you that I don’t take it for granted for a single second.  If you hadn’t started talking to me I guarantee I’d be dead right now.  Seriously, you are the first person who has ever made an effort to show me that you support me & believe in me without wanting me to be someone I’m not.
Honestly, for the longest time, the only reason I didn’t kill myself was because I couldn’t bring myself to do it before I got to give you a hug & actually talk to you face to face.  & if I didn’t have you then I wouldn’t have met ____ & I can’t thank you enough for getting her to write me.  That is the best thing you could have ever done for me, & I will always owe you for that.  Without you I wouldn’t have a TV, or be as good of an Artist or even have what little bit of a relationship I have with my mom.  You are the most reliable person in my life.  I know that if you say you’ll do something for me, it’s as good as done.  I’m a very untrusting person, so it’s nice to have someone who I know I can trust & rely on 100%.  I can’t thank you enough for that.  I defend you vehemently whenever my family tries to criticize you, which by the way they’ve stopped doing.  It makes me incredibly angry when they try to say you’re not a real friend.  I’ve told them repeatedly how without all you do for me I’d have killed myself & then they’ll say I have them & I’m like “NO I DON’T!”.  They don’t like when I point out how they’ve sat back & let me do my time on my own, & you’re the one who’s done all the stuff they should be doing   I wish I could like do something for you.  When do you think you’ll be able to visit again?  I wish I could see you more often, but it’s okay.  I promise I won’t always be so awkward, I just have to get used to you.  I really did love seeing you face to face though, & giving you a hug was great!  Although I was unprepared for the kiss & it startled me (I only kissed him on the cheek guys so don’t get any ideas) but it was nice too!
I don’t know if ______ told you, but she’s gonna try to kiss me on the lips & if that happens I swear I’ll die!
I just got my books, & want to thank you endlessly.  Honestly, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you.  I always feel bad cuz I don’t call you more often & you do so much for me, but every time I use the phone I call ____.  I can’t help it.  I’m in love with her!
& My mind is much clearer these days.  I haven’t done any drugs in over 3 months!!!!  I love you & can’t thank you enough for all that you’ve done & continue to do for me!

Dont ever look up reviews for the company you work for.

So i work for a mail order pharmacy and last night i got damn curious. I googled the company i worked for. For laughs i said. People are always saying how horrible the reviews are gor us and they didnt lie. But the thing is while reading the little sob stories and complaints i noticed how privelged these people were. They were complaining about stuff we couldnt even help with. Things that were out of our hands. But like most privelged first world people they expect us to be able to do everything to make them happy even illegal shit. People don’t understand next time you are mad because Walmart wont do something a small business would its because big business cant do it most of the time legally. Like Medicare requires us to treat everyone equal. The FDA requires certain legal documents to be regarded as such. Most of my job is listening to people complain about how unfair things are. I put them on mute and say oh well its unfair that i dont have a unicorn.

I finally got this mailtime out! The demo’s release, MAGFest and sickness got in my way but I got around to getting me and my friend together for another adventure with the mailbox.

I got this from Facebook but I did just now call and can confirm it worked

(posting this on the night of Feb 3 2017)

This voice mail box has been full all week, but is no longer!

The Senate Committee on Homeland Security is taking comments about the appointment of Steve Bannon to the National Security Council at this line: 202-224-4751.

Please consider calling and leaving a message – it literally just took me 10 seconds. And you don’t even have to speak to a human.

Sample script: “My name is ___ and I’m calling from _(city/state)__. I do not need a call back. I would like to voice my strong opposition to Steve Bannon being on the National Security Council. Thank you.”

I got a real fidget cube in the mail yesterday and I love it so much and I really recommend it to anyone who has trouble focusing!! It’s great if you’re someone who’s always messing with stuff and needs like a constant stimulus in order to focus like me!

It’s very useful for class, AND as bonus it always was a bit helpful in the last two d&d sessions I was in, because it kept me from overthinking things that I and other people were saying/doing (so I was at least a smidge less anxious!)

My fav side is the joystick because I can flick it and also cause it has a really slight click when it slides from the center all the way to the edge and I love it and also it’s the quietest side to use in class for me!

If anyone else wants to get one, the official ones by antsy labs are the best imo, but some of the knockoffs are good too and they are much cheaper. They don’t last very long from what I’ve seen though (the one my sister got doesn’t click, and the joystick grinds a bit after repeated use) Antsy labs one is $20, and they’re available for preorder right now on their site!

I guess I’m just gonna keep blogging like everything is okay 8(  Thanks everyone for the kind comments on my post yesterday, it means a lot to me to have all that support..!

I got a bunch of good stuff in the mail today, one of which was a bunch of sparkly eyes for various dolls!  More tests are needed for maximum sparkle in photos.

Commission Scams and How to Protect Yourself

As some of you know, I was recently scammed out of not only my commission money but also charged an extra fee on top of that. Basically a person commissioned me to make a piece of art for them. Pretty normal stuff. Once I had finished their art and they had paid me, I mailed the piece to them, which I thought would be the end of it. But months later, I got a notification from Paypal saying that the person said that they didn’t authorize my commission payment. As a result, Paypal removed the money from my bank account, opened a “chargeback” case against me, and charged me an extra fee for that case. I lost the all the money from the commission, had to pay the extra $20 fee, and the person got to keep the original art that I’d made for them.

Luckily Paypal took mercy on me since this was the first time it’d happened and gave me some of my money back. But I learned that there are many steps you can take to protect yourself as an artist from these scammers. So here are some things you can do to protect yourself.

1. Make a contract template that you can fill out for every commission and have your commissioner sign it BEFORE you start working. Be sure that everything is detailed and laid out; your price, exactly what you are doing, your copyright, and any other terms of agreement you think are necessary. There are plenty of contract examples online if you’d like to get a better idea of what to include!

2. Always use invoices! It will help you keep track of all your facts, like finances, shipping addresses, dates, project numbers, etc. The more documentation you have, the better off you’ll be if something goes wrong.

3. Keep your shipping receipts (aka Proof of Shipment or Proof of Delivery)! Once you mail off that final artwork to the commissioner, make sure you hang onto that receipt. Even after they’ve received the art, HANG ONTO THAT RECEIPT! That’s what really killed my case. I threw away my receipt once I saw that the person had received the art. So when it came time to prove my case months later, I had no evidence outside of emails saying that I had sent the art, which somehow matters when a person says that they didn’t authorize a payment, but that’s a whole other story. Paypal told me the only evidence that would prove my case was that proof of shipment or delivery receipt, and I had nothing. I suggest stapling it to your invoice/contract and keeping it all together nicely, so if you need proof, it’s all there.

4. If you’re using Paypal, be sure to use “Seller Protection”! You only qualify if you’re sending a physical item to someone, but it will give you an extra level of protection if something does happen. They will assist you with any sort of complaints or anything that happens between you and your buyer.

5. Make sure you get a tracking number. It’ll help you and your commissioner know where the art is and if it gets lost along the way. Or if someone claims that it was never delivered, you will have proof of where it was last. And insuring your art is always another extra step you can take towards protecting yourself (if you can afford it).

TLDR: Give yourself as much legal documentation as possible!

I hope that these tips will help you fellow artists out there to avoid dealing with all this junk that I’ve had to deal with. I know it sounds like a lot, and can be a pain, but it’ll save you from months of frustration and money loss! People are always ready and willing to scam artists and we need to do our best to protect ourselves.

Let me know if you have any questions/concerns/etc about your own commissions or what I went through. I’m happy to help you guys out!

Hope you have a lovely day! Best of luck with your own commissions!
