Sorry Nonners, I was mobile all night and couldn’t get online from my laptop!
1) Rose motherfucking Tyler - She was my first, and she’s my babe. I still relate to Rose more than I relate to any other character in fiction ever, and I love her so much <3
2) Brona Croft - Yes I’m going to cheat and make Brona and Lily two different characters. But they are. Brona is soft and beautiful and far too gentle for the horrible world she was stuck in. We never deserved her
3) Lily Frankenstein - My queen, as we all know. Lily is everything Brona could never be, because she’s everything Brona tried very hard not to be - she’s angry, and bitter, and she lashes out at the world (we saw Brona do that exactly once, to Ethan, and she apologized for it after. Like fuck Lily would ever apologize)
4) Holly - We all know I have a soft spot for this gentle babe. Billie’s performance here is just amazing, and Holly, for all her faults, is still one of the most lovable characters in this entire series (that I watched, at least. I watched Billie’s and David’s eps and a couple others, and I wasn’t entirely impressed with anyone but Holly).
5) Hannah Baxter - I’m not going to lie, I couldn’t finish Secret Diary of a Call Girl because of all the sex, but I truly did love Hannah Baxter. She was beautiful and confident and unapologetic, and I thought that was lovely.
She acts all high and mighty online but Gen is the type of person to carry hand sanitizer around for when she has to shake hands with the common folk of the world. Stuck up bitch. She lives inside her own rich little bubble on planet Padalecki
I’m so glad they gave Roadhog a more serious comic about what he thinks of the world after he fought so hard to protect his home.
And then they did what I’d hope they’d do:
They showed us how they met.
And how Junkrat apparently just picks and chooses bodyguards out of random bars to take care of him… I guess it was fate.
Anyway, more importantly:
My favorite part, where he says Junkrat is a liar.
So Blizzard is interested in giving Junkrat more than just the comic relief role.
Roadhog says he’s a liar who lies to himself most of all.
Lies to himself about what?
I may be wrong and this may be open to interpretation, but maybe he means Junkrat’s hiding his true feelings about his circumstances, about being “happy” and energetic all the time.
He’s “not the quiet type” so he lies loudly, as opposed to Mako, who hides the truth by saying nothing at all.
Some people bluster and talk to hide their insecurities or their pain.
I really like this line. It adds a dimension to Junkrat that I hope we see.
He’s full of bluster, a yappy little mad max chihuahua with smoking hair, but Mako’s smart enough to see more in him.
He thinks very little of everyone, based on the previous dialogue:
“They deserve what they get” “World deserves them.”
Mako remembers the past, knows how this wasteland came to be and he’s disgusted by the people who’ve settled into it, who’ve made it their home, because they don’t care about what was lost, only what they can now gain.
He might be looking for treasure and spoils with Junkrat, but I don’t get the feeling that he cares that much about it.
Otherwise he wouldn’t claim the queen and the others were just fighting over scraps.
Again, personal opinion.
But I think he was just looking for a purpose.
And a way to strike back at a world that never cared about him, that left him and his people and his home in ruins.
So going all over the world, wrecking rich people’s shit, stealing gold and pachimaris with Junkrat… yeah, I think he’s doing it not because gold is all he cares about, or even Junkrat’s treasure, whatever it is.
I mean, he doesn’t even know what Junkrat’s treasure IS here. I doubt it’s just money, that would be lazy of Blizzard.
I think he’s doing it because he’s still aching over a failed rebellion and has nothing to lose.
And why did he choose Junkrat to stick with?
Out of all the people in the world he could’ve stuck with?
Because Junkrat is a liar, who lies to himself.
Because other people it would seem, are liars too, but they keep their lies to themselves, and Mako apparently trusts the “loud” type more than the quiet type.
And like I said before, because he’s on a quest for revenge, because he wants the civilized world that made his home a living nightmare have a taste of their own medicine. And Junkrat, explosions-extraordinaire, noisy but trustworthy, a real idiot, but an honest one?
ok but no one talks about how bad dissociation really is. there is nothing worse than taking a look out of your window and feeling like you are stuck in a fake reality. you don’t know where you are and you can’t get out of it. it’s like things are fading away, it’s like you are disappearing. people are robots. you are dreaming. you are stuck. you are not a prisoner in a fake world.
when you look at your body, you hope to feel something, but those are not your hands, those are not your legs, not your face, not you. who are you? look at the details in your face, your mouth, your eyes, who created all of these things? because it’s not you, it’s not real. you are not a person, you are something, a thought.
there is nothing worse than feeling like you don’t belong anywhere, not even your own body or your own place.
You were the moon, I was the wave
Pulled me out, pushed me away
It’s how we danced
Isn’t it amazing?
Why couldn’t I make you want to leave the world behind?
Our ship is stuck in a bottle
Let’s break the glass tonight
I’ll be your after glow, your sweetness and your light
I’ll be the chemical that helps you sleep at night
We’re stardust, you and I
okay so in the world of mages the power behind spells comes from the Normals’ everyday use of language. common phrases, popular lyrics, etc. can be used as spells and the power it contains depends on how widespread the use of the phrase is. so like mages use “up up and away” as a levitation spell and it works really well cuz its a really commonly used phrase.
can you imagine the baby boomer era mages complaining about these newfangled spells the younger generation has that are so unpredictable yet exponentially more powerful than anything the mages had in the past. a student wanted to fetch his pet frog and uses “oh shit waddup” and every frog on the continent suddenly flies to him. another student points her wand at her shoes. “damn daniel” and they become blindingly white. simply saying “BODE” engorges a kitten to the size of a dragon. the Mage’s position is filled by a grouchy teen known as the Meme King. he runs a blog and is the most powerful wizard of all time.
“Humans were so circular; they lived the same slow cycles of joy and misery over and over, never learning. Every lesson in the universe had to be taught billions of times, and it never stuck. Maybe it was good that the world forgot every lesson, every good and bad memory, every triumph and failure, all of it dying with each generation. Perhaps this cultural amnesia spared them all. Perhaps if they remembered everything, hope would die instead.”

You know when someone comes at you over and over and over again, and they can’t hear you; they can’t see. You’re pleading with them, you’re trying to figure out how to get through to them and they just won’t accept it. And at some point, you just give in and you go “that’s right… that’s what you wanted.”
