Space Shuttle Atlantis heads back to Launch Pad 39A and liftoff on
Mission STS-79 around September 12. The journey to the launch pad began
shortly before 2:30 p.m. on August 20, 1996 and took approximately six
hours to complete.
My Dad came with me to shoot these pics…he probably didn’t think he’d end up hiking up to the Iowa St. Railroad Bridge. He’s 79, by the way. Soon after we got up on this bridge we heard a train whistle….then the ground started to rumble. Shortly thereafter, along comes a huge, three engine train! There was plenty of room on the tracks so we weren’t in any danger but it was pretty cool being that close to this awesome iron behemoth. So, this shot is comprised of 5 different exposures and because of that the train is somewhat transparent and you can see Iowa St.(?) in the background….fun day in the Quad Cities!
